Reviews for Hôtel Royal
Review 1:The hotel was much more worn out than I expected and our bathroom did not even have a shower - it had a tub with a hose and shower head but it was very difficult to use.
Review 2:The location was perfect for being able to walk around the main city area.
Review 3:Great location - close to train station and city sites. Very friendly and helpful staff. Varied and excellent breakfast. Large and comfortable room. Very good base for exploring the area. Would stay here again and would recommend it without hesitation.
Review 4:Extremely difficult to find the hotel and nearly impossible to find parking close by making it stressful to unload luggage.
Review 5:Fantastic position in the old town close to the main square we had a very quiet room with lots of space.
Review 6:The stair carpet needs to be cleaned, or replaced.
Review 7:Traditional hotel with understated charm. Excellent breakfast. Very convenient for railway station and city centre. Bedroom very quiet.
Review 8:Very hard with parking. Rugs really needed to be washed. A bit pricey for what it is.
Review 9:Location was nice. Great recommendation for dinner. Parking was very hard to find for us however.
Review 10:Very poor lighting in the areas used for reading such as bedside and desk. Shower head needed jets cleaning and high overhead position not practical.G
Review 11:Very good location, central and near the station. Excellent buffet breakfast. Friendly reception.
Review 12:at 100 EUR, I found it a bit pricey, particularly considering that breakfast was not included (12 EUR extra). The shower had low pressure and could not be hanged, which made showers kind of uncomfortable. Finally, at least twice there was no-one at reception when I arrived, which I find quite unsafe, since anyone could take the room keys and enter them.
Review 13:Excellent location. Helpful staff. Nice quiet rooms
Review 14:Some noise from the street. Awkward to access by car. (It is best to park at the car park in Place de la Comedie, and walk)
Review 15:Comfortable hotel in a great position in the centre of town
Review 16:The only problem we incurred was arrival and checking in. This was not the fault of the hotel but rather of Booking.com who gave no information. If they had said that guests should park in the Comedie car park and the walk across the Place de Comedie it would have saved us about an hour and half of driving around. The hotel gives this info on their website.
Review 17:The location was perfect for our stay being less than 5 minutes walk from the centre
Review 18:difficult to find parking. The hotel has an agreement with a close-by parking but this was not mentioned. So I had to park relatively far away and then, only when arrived to the hotel, I was told of this possibility (which I used). It would be very helpfull if the hotel could give instructions on how to reach this parking at the moment of the reservation.
Review 19:Personnel attention and kindness, position, bed comfort, quality of the room.
Review 20:the hotel is in the pedestrian area and the staff didn't tell us..we had to park the car a bit far away from it..
Review 21:very central, fairly good value for money.
Review 22:The hotel didn't had the room we had booked (double bedroom with bath and A/C). We had another room with a not very efficient A/C system. Usually I don't use A/C but it was it was very warm (+30c) and the street very noisy. It seems that there was a miscommunication with Booking.com . On Booking.com rooms looks much better than reality. It is too expensive for what is.
Review 23:Hotel is very centrally located.
Review 24:Very noisy - from street outside window and air conditioning in room which wouldn't switch off and didn't make room cool.
Review 25:Pleasant staff Left luggage facility was useful
Review 26:Generally was fine but the main problem was the communication with personel because just one woman talks in English.
Review 27:The room was nice with big bed and wardrobe to keep clothes. Also iron and ironing board. Breakfast more sweeter but nice. Perfect location - 3 minutes on foot to Railway Station and Comedie Place.
Review 28:The toilet facilities on ground floor : only one; very cramped if you needed a last min change before travel. The outer door didn't lock either! All else was lively
Review 29:Excellent reception assistance and friendly cleaning staff.
Review 30:Would have been better if breakfast was included in the price rather than costing extra. However there was a great variety and choice for breakfast.
Review 31:Hotel in an excellent location between train station and place de la comédie. Staff very friendly. Room was very comfortable.
Review 32:The water for the shower is not strong enough. And there is nothing to hold the shower hand.
Review 33:Excellent location, near to the train station. The staff are very friendly. The room is spacious.
Review 34:Rooms next to the main road on the ground floor are slight noisy at night
Review 35:The staff were fabulous, the breakfast was great, and a very short walk from the train station and a lovely square to eat in
Review 36:our room was on ground flor next to the street, so it was quite noisy in the night. It is not as beautiful as in the pictures, is fairly decorated but the floors are ugly. A little hot in the room. Wifi was not working the entire weekend.
Review 37:I liked the location and the kindness of the receptionist
Review 38:The area of the hotel is a little rough, with lots of homeless people around. Slight smell of dirty socks in the room. No complains though, it is what it is.
Review 39:Friendly stuff. Very close to the historic city centre.
Review 40:Having to leave, but hope to return soon!
Review 41:As ever the staff were very welcoming and helped to make the stay very enjoyable. The breakfast was more than ample and a perfect start to day. Location perfect for exploring both Montpellier and the region ,and for finally leaving!
Review 42:Arrived by car, and found it very difficult to locate hotel, took a good hour to find it, and then could not park anywhere near to off load bags and check in. Car parking was also expensive.
Review 43:Hotel in excellent location, and everything in hotel lovely, very clean, beautiful bathroom, and very comfortable beds.
Review 44:The staff were really nice and friendly, and helped us get around the city. They even let us stay and work in the lobby using the wifi waiting for our train. The bed was comfortable, the room not too small, and was quiet, even though the location was perfect right by the train station and the Place de la Comedie.
Review 45:They did not support any hot water in the room which was quite bothered for me.
Review 46:The location is fairly good, the wifi worked very good, and the staff were friendly.
Review 47:A bit noisy at night - ask for an internal room for light sleepers Pillows and towels a bit thin
Review 48:Close to centre and old town Friendly staff Good shower Comfortable bed
Review 49:-------------
Review 50:All staff were excellent. Particularly on Reception, they were friendly and helpful. Location ideal for trains and trams, for the City Centre, shops and restaurants.
Review 51:No complaints from me!
Review 52:Only a 2 minute walk to the largest pedestrian area in Europe! Also, very close to train station (handy when lugging a big suitcase!) and trams. An excellent selection of restaurants, cafes and bars nearby (plus Monoprix just down the road).Breakfast was good and nice lounge area adjacent to Dining room. Staff were friendly, and particularly helpful with solo travellers. Great value for money, I felt very safe at all times and will stay at Hotel Royal again during my next trip to France (having visted Montpellier on a previous occasion-but I stayed at a different Hotel).
Review 53:Needs a kettle in the room to make tea and coffee. This was our 7th hotel on our trip and the only one without tea & coffee making facilities.
Review 54:The location is fantastic, although a little awkward if using a car as the hotel is in a pedestrian area and parking is in a public car park.
Review 55:shower in bath tub and without curtain; no safe; tinned fruit salad at breakfast! and no cereals the second morning
Review 56:quiet and spacy room; very close to railway station, tram and old city
Review 57:When we entered our room for the first time there was an unpleasant smell, but after we left the window open for some hours it has disappeared.
Review 58:I appreciated very much that the lady at the reception when we arrived, had taken note of my written preferance for a quiet room and gave us a big very nice and quiet room !
Review 59:- hair on the bathroom floor ( not perfect cleaning ), - problems with the hot water in the bath, - some furniture and carpits look worn.
Review 60:- big room, - big bath/bathroom, - quiet, - helpfull staff, - normal prizes.
Review 61:Had to park in garage FAR FAR away, cars not allowed near hotel, so have to chug luggage out of garage, and three or four city blocks. The staff was unable to give directions to bring car close to hotel in order to unload baggage at 50 meters away which was possible. If senior traveler avoid all hotels near place de la comedie when driving an auto. not worth the trouble.
Review 62:Central location, once there.Great if arrive by train, just two blocks up the street. Otherwise near center of old town and all to see. Pleasant clean and quiet rooms, very nice staff, and bkfast at fair price.
Review 63:There are some seedy streets close to train station that stick out...my hotel was in that mix but stood tall as an oasis and because it was close and convenient to trains I accepted it with no regrets...
Review 64:Ambiance, public transport, sheer beauty, culture
Review 65:Terrific location if you arrive by train. Very short easy walk to that and also to the delightful old quarter, now a pedestrian area. The local tram lines are very close so a car is definitely a burden here.
Review 66:The location was perfect, close to transport links and restaurants /bars. The availability of breakfast at earlier than holiday type hotels is a definite plus
Review 67:When we arrived the room smelled badly perhaps because of the bath room detergent. It became okay after we opened the window and shut the door of the bath room.
Review 68:The hotel is located very close to the train station and Place de la Comédie.
Review 69:I had a payment problem. When I did the reservation (I was not paying the night) they took out the complete amount. Then, when I left the hotel, I payed (as it was supposed), so finally, I payed the hotel twice. It took me some hours and calls to solve the problem. But the hotel recognized the mistake and reimboursed me.
Review 70:Service (very helpful people). Location.
Review 71:Late night partiers were quite loud outside the hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. Not the hotels fault just something to be aware of. Rooms lacked fridge and hotel has no ice. The LCD TV could not be switched to the HDMI input for playing movies from laptop.
Review 72:Location is near Tramways and the Comedie central plaza so everything in the old quarter is within walking distance. Electrical outlets were ample and logically located.
Review 73:Noise from building works. One unfriendly receptionist.
Review 74:Lovely room and bathroom though we needed a shower screen. Centrally located, good coffee though we didn't like the bread and had subsequent breakfasts out of the hotel.
Review 75:Amazing location - felt part of the French culture. Very helpful staff. Extremely clean & excellent room service. Stayed 11 nights & would return.
Review 76:Very noisy street around the hotel Air conditioning very loud (and room too hot and stuffy without it)
Review 77:Central location Free WiFi Spacious room & en-suite
Review 78:Would have been great to have a safe in the room.
Review 79:The location of the hotel was ideal, we were able to walk from the station. Our room was no 11 - very quiet and everything worked really well. The air conditioning was very efficient and quiet. The WIFI was free and easily available. The staff were very helpful with maps and directions etc.The hotel is only 3 minutes walk to Place de Comedie (where it all happens). Lots of places to eat and places to visit. A ideal city for a weekend way. cannot comment on the breakfast as we preferred to go out and eat out in the sunshine. We will definitely use this hotel again.
Review 80:Just a couple of improvements: Shower caps for rooms. Air conditioner was too noisy wasnt too much of a problem though -turbed it off in the evening. An idea for the breakfast area would be to sell local artists work displayed on the walls.
Review 81:The location and room were excellent.
Review 82:No fault.
Review 83:The staff were so helpful. We had a problem with the air conditioning unit in our room and were moved to a better room immediately. The receptionists were so helpful with directions and recommendations for the city. Great reduction for nearby underground parking. Great breakfast and breakfast room.
Review 84:Nothing at all!
Review 85:Convenient location in the centre of the city. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Clean, comfortable, reasonable sized room (with a proper bath!)
Review 86:Extremely difficult to reach the front door by car. Park your car in the parking lodges nearby if you drive there. Don't expect to load your luggages first.
Review 87:The staff is friendly and helpful. Facilities in the room are all new and working quite well. The location is fantastic for sightseeing the old town, convenient for taking tramway and train as well.
Review 88:Friendly staff, good price-value, perfect location
Review 89:Not very good staff... not very friendly staff. Bot helpful. Charged me twice.
Review 90:Comfortable and convenient.

Review 110:Its a lovely hotel with nice staff. And a great location.
Review 111:Friendly helpful staff, excellent location, clean and comfortable.
Review 112:No kettle and no shower in bath (great bath though)
Review 113:Location and friendly helpful staff. Basic but nicely appointed.

Review 118:it was difficult to take the shower as it wasn`t possible to place it on the wall.
Review 119:Location, facilities were clean and neat. Very nice hotel and the staff were very friendly.
Review 120:Singing in the steet below.
Review 121:It has to be the most honest hotel as well. I stupidly left quite a valuable ring on departure which was found and sent back to me.
Review 122:Location, close to railway station and town centre.
Review 123:Quiet, comfortable room. Helpful staff. Close to historic and cultural centre.
