Reviews for The Celyn

Review 1:The previous guests! They'd broken the mirrors and a bottle of red wine on the carpet. But the mirror had already been replaced and the carpet cleaned. By the time we left Sarah had arranged to have the carpet replaced.

Review 2:Very friendly, big, clean, well appointed rooms. The bathroom of the suite was huge! Lovely view and rural location. Fantastic breakfast! Sarah and her fiance gave us great advice for walks and sold delicious sausages. Very good free soap and towels. An excellent stay, perfect for a celebration!

Review 3:Cracks at joint of bedroom walls may give insecurity to certain customers.

Review 4:Great customer service, lovely environment and flexible breakfast arrangement.

Review 5:The location and house were amazing. Sarah & Paul were fantastic hosts. Couldn't say a bad word about it. Will definitely be looking to go back again!

Review 6:From the moment we stepped in, we felt very welcome. The room looked even better than the pictures and is in a picturesque location. Sarah was incredibly helpful with booking a table for us at the Skirrid Inn and booking a taxi for us. I highly recommend this place!!

Review 7:No real complaint but the breakfast was not the best I have ever had however it was satisfactory

Review 8:Very friendly people in a lovely house with beautiful views

Review 9:Rather difficult to find particularly in the dark. Attractive views. Some signage at appropriate points would be helpful.

Review 10:The host was very welcoming and trusting. Had no cash to pay - they did not take cards- but he was happy for me to make a bank transfer from home rather than make a special trip to the local bank. Very refreshing!! Good breakfast,

Review 11:Location was hard to find. Late check in time meant it was dark which made it more difficult.

Review 12:The owner, the location and the room decor and the bathroom, especially the bath tub!

Review 13:Fantastic location, fantastic house, lovely, friendly owners (Paul and Sarah), lovely room, lovely food and soppy old collie dog (Max)! So glad we found this place. Already rebooked for a weekend next April :)

Review 14:Had an outdoor week there with mountain bikes and hiking, excellent location surrounded by black mountains and sugar loaf, did alot just in the local area from the front door including black mountains loop, all the trail centres are not far in car. very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, big room and lots of space to clean up and dry things, very good shower and bath, and hose for the bikes outdoors. Made a big difference of being able to get everything dry and clean easily for the next day.

Review 15:Not exactly a dislike but this place feels very remote due to the nature of the single track hedge lined roads. It is only a few miles from Abergavenny but without the assistance of the Satnav we would have struggled to find our way round.

Review 16:Excellent hosts, comfy room, lovely breakfast, breathtaking views along and across the valley & Max the cutest sheep dog we've ever encountered. Very peaceful.

Review 17:Beautiful views, comfortable room, lovely breakfast. Colin the host was welcoming and friendly, and gave us useful information about the area including recommendations for places to eat in the evening and spectacular routes to drive.

Review 18:The Celyn is a little difficult to locate but absolutely worth the effort

Review 19:Facilities and breakfast first class. Reception by Colin, and Max(dog) was very enthusiastic. Location for walkers and cyclists absolutely great.

Review 20:Warm friendly engagement of us right from the start by all connected to the accomodation. Beautiful location off the beaten track but well worth finding if you wish for peace and lovely countryside.

Review 21:Not a negative -but would have found more detailed directions (including road names) helpful in locating the property.

Review 22:Exquisite view of the countryside from the room. Delicious, well presented breakfast (scrambled eggs with salmon highly recommended!!) Room was most tastefully appointed - stunning bath, beautiful furniture. Innkeepers a lovely couple - very friendly, incredibly helpful, attentive to every need and detail.

Review 23:We didn't realise we would be in an attic room and kept bumping our heads on the roof! It also meant that we had very small windows from which to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The guest lounge was lovely but did not seem to be used during our stay. Perhaps it could be more welcoming with some lamp light and background music. It offered beautiful views! Although we had wifi access in our room the first night, we couldn't get it the second.

Review 24:The farm is in a gorgeous setting. Easy to find with the directions provided by Sarah. Be aware that it is a very small narrow road to drive on! The room was well set up. Welsh cakes were a bonus! Colin was very friendly and helpful, recommending some great pubs in Crickhowell for meals. His cooked breakfasts were delicious!

Review 25:NONE!

Review 26:I have been many times to this wonderful place where the earth reaches the sky.Friendly people, spotless place and an unforgettable Welsh breakfast.

Review 27:Nothing bad about the actual place but be aware that the roads to this B&B and very narrow (like many in Wales) and if you meet a car coming in the opposite direction one of you has to reverse until you get to a section wide enough for 2 cars to pass.

Review 28:Breakfast was great. Lovely location.

Review 29:Take the number for the farm follow your satnav to Crickhowell or Abergavenny and then follow Sarah's instructions from there. We put the postcode of the farm into the satnav and it took us down a road that damaged our car. Also note that they only take cash and the check in is early.

Review 30:Loved the friendliness of this place :) we only stayed the one night and we wished we had stayed longer. Not many places like this around. We loved our stay and would go again.

Review 31:As far as location is concerned, it is a drive on one lane hedged edged country roads, 5 miles from Abergavenny and 3 miles from Crickhowell. We drove in from both ways and preferred the way from Crickhowell as the roads were better. . Set the GPS for the exact longitude and latitude and it will lead you there, don't use the post code.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:This was a fantastic property, set in the most beautiful countryside. Owner was brilliant, as was breakfast. We had the most enjoyable stay and will definitely be looking for an excuse to stay again

Review 34:There is not one thing we would change!

Review 35:This is a very beautiful & peaceful place to stay. We are extremely disappointed that we could only stay for 1 night as it has so much to offer. It must have some of the most outstanding country-side /scenery to be found. Our host Col (& his mate, Max) made the experience very enjoyable.

Review 36:The lanes needed to be carefully navigated as they were very narrow.

Review 37:Fantastic views with friendly staff and good, home cooked breakfast. A comfortable room with everything needed for a relaxing stay.

Review 38:I have nothing bad to say, :-)

Review 39:This was a beautiful place, the owners were friendly and very helpful, the room was lovely and the breakfast was one of the best I've had with lots of verity, would highly recommend to anyone,

Review 40:only one chair in the room, not easy to reach, 5 miles out of town, no restaurant or pub nearby

Review 41:beautifully situated, kind welcome, well furnished room

Review 42:Getting there by car was a dangerous nightmare. Sarah sent goodinstructions which must be followed, but it involved several miles onsingle lane roads. Do not attempt this at night.

Review 43:Very scenic property, modern with excellent facilities.

Review 44:Finding the place (especially in a downpour) as roads leading to it are very narrow - but the price you pay for a lovely location.

Review 45:Spotlessly clean, light and airy room, wonderful views, smiling and chatty host. Sharing a dining table for breakfast - It encourages conversation with other guests.

Review 46:From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home, beautiful house and countryside, owners are very friendly and offer to help in anyway they could... Breakfast was lovely, using local produce and was very tasty, everything you could ask for...

Review 47:2 flights of stairs - not suitable if you have mobility issues.

Review 48:Beautiful setting, very clean, very friendly staff (including their dog who is very cute!), excellent value, very quiet. Local town of Crickhowell is lovely. Close to Cardiff and inside Brecon national park. Lots of lovely walks to do. Access roads are very narrow but fine if you drive carefully. You need a vehicle to access this property - not accessible by public transport.

Review 49:The property was not close to Abergavenny (5 plus miles) and without the owners instructions we would never have found it. The narrow hedged lanes were difficult to negotiate.

Review 50:Everything about this property was excellent. The room was modern and very comfortable, the views amazing and the breakfast first rate.

Review 51:This b&b is in the most picturesque, beautiful area I've ever seen. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the sheep bleating. An old church nearby felt like a step back in time. It was absolutely lovely.

Review 52:It is impossible to fault this establishment and I have to say it is probably one of the nicest and friendliest properties I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. Nothing is too much trouble and you are made to feel at home as soon as you set foot in the door. Highly recommended and definitely worth a visit.

Review 53:Be very sure to follow their specific directions - both parties during our stay got turned around and had a bit of difficulty coming in from Abergavenny - much easier from Crickhowell.

Review 54:Hosts were friendly, the breakfast included their own butcher products (very good), and the natural beauty was engaging.

Review 55:A couple of minor points that might put some off (not us!) ... 1) Wifi fairly slow and no phone signal - perfect for escaping! There is a land line if you really need to call out. 2) Bed looked relatively small but we both fit and slept brilliantly! 3) Top floor room, slope in the ceiling over the loo made it a bit tricky for my partner at times but hasn't put him off returning. 4) Very rural - you need to drive or come prepared to walk/pay for taxis.

Review 56:1) Amazing breakfast with gorgeous views from the breakfast room, the shared table might put some people off but for us it made it feel more homely. 2) Superb room with excellent cleanliness and lovely views. Comfy bed and plenty of space. 3) Gorgeous location - but you will need a car! Ours broke and Paul and Colin were brilliantly accommodating, rescuing us from the country road and calling us taxis. 4) Superb location, very peaceful! 5) Really friendly staff, only too happy to help. We'll definitely be back.

Review 57:Not sure what I think about being asked to remove my shoes when entering the house. The en-suite shower was affected by the roof slope so the shower curtain was too long and blocked the drain hole. And it should be made clear when booking that they don't accept cards of any sort.

Review 58:Well furnished, good sized rooms. Peaceful area with fantastic views. Excellent breakfast and great value for money.

Review 59:The host, Colin - super friendly and helpful! He even saved us from getting lost at one stage during a hike :-D The food and house - Amazing! And then the area - just wow and sheep and cows!

Review 60:Liked everything. Maybe would have liked to have checked in earlier, but not a problem.

Review 61:Beautiful location with fantastic views. Colin, the owner was very attentive and cooked a lovely breakfast. Could not have asked for more.

Review 62:A bit difficult to find but really worth the effort.

Review 63:First class room and facilities. Great breakfast and friendly helpful advice from host Colin and daughter.

Review 64:one of the most beautifully situated B & Bs we have ever stayed in, not easy to find, best to go in from Crickhowell. lovely friendly family. Views outstanding, accommodation super, shower the best. Breakfast delicious.Hope to go back again before to long

Review 65:Unfortunately the WIFI was out and there was no cell phone service either, no fault of the B&B, it was a downed line. Also, we didn't get to enjoy the luxurious tub because there was a water leak but Sarah reduced our fee as compensation. Suggestion to have a slightly earlier check-in to enjoy the place?

Review 66:We loved Max the resident sheep dog! The views from our windows were beautiful! Even the bathroom window overlooked a hill dotted with sheep and lambs. Sarah was helpful with directions to a nearby pub for dinner and provided wine glasses and even a tub of ice for the bottle of wine we brought back with us. Paul was helpful after breakfast with our GPS and mapping our route. All appreciated!

Review 67:Only problem was with the wifi but that may have been me. The phone indicated a good signal.

Review 68:Remote location with fantastic views. Sarah was very helpful and friendly. Décor is to a very high standard, very clean, comfortable bed, great breakfast.....

Review 69:Lovely, helpful and welcoming hosts! Excellent views! Delicious breakfast! Perfect place to enjoy the beautiful Brecon Beacons. Will recommend to friends and family!

Review 70:A warm welcome from Sarah to a beautiful house set in idyllic countryside. Comfortable room with an excellent breakfast to send you on your way to explore this picturesque area. Highly recommended, great value.

Review 71:The location was fantastic and our room had a view of Sugarloaf mountain. We felt very tranquil and at rest in the middle of the country - there was no noise of traffic or people outside whatsoever. Owner was incredible friendly and gave great recommendations about where to walk and where to go and eat.

Review 72:One suggestion for improvement - include a box of tissues in the room.

Review 73:Our visit got off to a great start when we were greeted in the traditional friendly Welsh way. The room and amenities were exceptional, as was breakfast the next morning. Woke to misty morning views across the country-side. Fantastic value for money. Wish we had more time to stay longer.

Review 74:Location at the base of Sugar Loaf mountain was superb, the breakfast was excellent and the accommodation was superb. Sarah and family were extremely welcoming and accommodating.

Review 75:Nothing, it was perfect.

Review 76:A lovely B&B, clean, comfortable and quiet. Rooms were beautiful and spacious. The location was stunning, perfect for hill walking and close to Abergavenny and Crickhowell. Sarah and her family were the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble for them and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 77:The bed was a little soft and small for us to both have a great nights sleep.

Review 78:The owners were helpful, giving us great suggestions for walks. The decor of the room was lovely and the WiFi worked no problems. Breakfast was great. Extra touches such as welsh cake in the room were much appreciated. The views are amazing on a clear day.

Review 79:so long as you know it is a remote location nothing to dislike

Review 80:Excellent wecome staff first class spotless clean good breakfast beautiful location

Review 81:Absolutely nothing!

Review 82:Amazing B&B in an amazing location. From Paul's warm greeting to Colin's delicious breakfasts we couldn't have wished for better, and not forgetting Max the sheep dog who always made us smile! A score of 10 does not fully reflect how exceptional this B&B is.

Review 83:It's an overused Booking.com cliché, but the only part we didn'tlike was having to leave this beautiful B&B!

Review 84:This is the perfect base to explore the Brecons from. Paul and Sarahwere exceptionally welcoming, our room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast was delicious and the views over the valley are unrivalled. How they find the time to manage their vast surrounding farm and runsuch a tight ship we do not know, but hats off! Thank you so much for awonderful stay.1 tip: if you use Google Maps on your iPhone rather than SatNav it will take you straight to the door.

Review 85:The only thing that was a negative was trying to find it. Sarah did send imstructions via email but they went into my spam box so i didnt see them. SatNav takes you to wrong side of the valley and if your arriving at night its a nightmare. Could do with a sign on the road.

Review 86:Fantastic location with stunning views up and down the valley. Sarah and Paul were both very welcoming and friendly. The room decor was lovely and cleanliness was excellent. The breakfast was excellent and with the view from dining room made for a fantastic start to the day.

Review 87:Colin and Sarah were very welcoming, doing everything they could to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Stunning surroundings, good food and so peaceful, would definitely recommend.

Review 88:Shared table at breakfast, i found it a little awkward and uncomfortable having to make small talk, as there is only so much too say so early in the morning, quite a bit of awkward silences followed, plus was so quiet you could hear each others conversations and chewing noises, which was quite uncomfortable at times. I work in a very busy hospital theatre and have to talk all day everyday for long periods of time, so the break was for me to switch off for a while, i felt forced to chat at breakfast as didnt want to appear rude or aloof, although i found it to be quite stressful and uncomfortable, am sure most people wouldnt have a problem with this though. maybe a radio quietly playing in the backround would aleviate the quietness.

Review 89:The views, quietness, location, the friendliness of the owners, they were truly lovely.

Review 90:Make sure you follow the excellent directions the owners send you, as it is quite hard to find and sat nav will not get you there.

Review 91:Really peaceful place to relax. Freshly cooked breakfast. Owners on hand to help.

Review 92:The location was great just for relaxing or doing short walks. The room was cosy and warm, with views from the Sugarloaf mountain and other hills around. Really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape from their busy lives.

Review 93:Lovely location in the middle of the breacons, nice if you want a peaceful trip. Room was very nice and even had some Welsh cakes and a Ferroro Roche on the bed when we arrived. Very friendly staff who were very welcoming.

Review 94:The heating was hard to control - either too much or too little - and it's a pitty the living room doesn't make us want to linger in the common spaces.

Review 95:The house is relatively new built in a very nice rustic style. They made the best out of the beautiful views from the dining room. Breakfast or tea outside in summer must be really nice. We stayed in winter, and the house was very warm. Breakfast was simple but hearty. Sarah and Colin were wounderfull hosts. The room was decorated with taste and the bed is very comfortable.

Review 96:The wifi was a little on the slow side but can be forgiven from the rest of the stay.

Review 97:Surrounding area and b&b was very beautiful and as detailed in description.

Review 98:The location is just great, in the middle of the mountains with incredible views! Winter stay which was great, I am sure in the summer it's even better if that's possible. Will be back again..

Review 99:The extremely narrow one-lane roads, with hedges either side, are very picturesque, but totally nerve-wracking, with passing nodes few and far between. On the plus side, though, the roads are quiet, and we didn't actually meet any on-coming traffic.

Review 100:The peace and tranquility in a very friendly B & B. Location is amazing, and nearby pub was fantastic, with great atmosphere, food, and real ales. Colin and Sarah have done a great job.

Review 101:If you are looking for somewhere in the middle of nowhere for a peaceful getaway this is your place. Room was comfortable with everything you can expect from a B&B

Review 102:Absolutely nothing to add here.

Review 103:The location was stunning. The facilities were excellent. Colin and Sarah were excellent hosts. Food was excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Celyn to my family and friends. If I am ever in the Brecon Beacons area again I would stay here.

Review 104:One way narrow road, especially if you're driving at night

Review 105:Great for rest and relaxation, Colin did a marvelous job at breakfast, conversation with other guests during breakfast, panoramic view.

Review 106:slightly off the beaten track but well worth it. How else would you get such lovely views, and peace and quiet.

Review 107:Very welcoming hosts. Beautiful location and very quiet. Facilities excellent. and a cosy firelit guest lounge to return to in the evenings. Fabulous breakfast including scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Would recommend a stay here.

Review 108:The roads into the property but not a big dislike as we just had really wet and windy weather making the roads a bit hazardous.

Review 109:The views were spectacular

Review 110:The fact that we only had time to stay for just one night.

Review 111:Location, hosts, breakfast, the spectacular views everywhere you looked. The friendly dog at the farm.

Review 112:The property can be a challenge to find, particularly in the dark; But in my opinion this just adds to the adventure! Described as pet friendly, however, we were asked to leave our dog in the car or the utility room so we ended up leaving her behind with family. So perhaps not as pet friendly as suggested.

Review 113:A lovely house in a very peaceful and picturesque location. Amazing scenic views!

Review 114:Beautiful surroundings Considerate hosts Excellent breakfast with local produce Spacious and comfortable rooms in beautiful house Easy parking

Review 115:the food was great , the staff lovely the place itself was very clean and very comfortable indeed -and very very good value for money.. I couldn't be more pleased

Review 116:Were not aware that directions to the property would come by email. We missed the email and had difficulty finding the property. Not being able to pay by Visa was a minor inconvenience.

Review 117:Very helpful host. Excellent room, beautiful location, excellent breakfast in company of other guests. Dinner in nearby pub.

Review 118:Directions on the website to find the location are rather difficult if you don't know how to get there. Postcode doesn't help, and there is no network in Wales - definitely look up the way to get there, before you're there. Also, we stayed on the first floor, and the walls and ceiling are very think - we could hear the people above us walking around half the night and early in the morning. No problem if you're a fast sleeper, but definitely nothing if you wake up easily.

Review 119:Staff very friendly and helpful, we arrived really late, and they were still up waiting for us. Nice breakfast, beatifully located, impressive bathroom (superior suite)

Review 120:Difficult to find but well worth it. Great if you want peace and quiet and lots of walking but not if you need amenities.

Review 121:Room clean, spacious, homely. Friendly manner from owners, lovely breakfast and stunning views.

Review 122:Absolutely perfect rural setting. Rolling hills, magnificent countryside, simply picture perfect. The accommodation was fantastic, very comfortable, all the comforts of home, along with dressing gowns and lovely toiletries in the bathrooms. Dining room and breakfasts were great. Would thoroughly recommend this venue to any future travellers. The hosts were very welcoming. Well done.

Review 123:This B&B is a bit off the beaten track but certainly worth the little extra time to get to it. Couldn't ask for more in comfort, hospitality and scenery

Review 124:Having to choose what I wanted for breakfast the following day when I arrived. Also having to take my shoes off when I entered the property.

Review 125:Fabulous setting with fabulous views. It was very quiet and very clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable.
