Reviews for Les Rouges Gorges

Review 1:Eric, the host, was very helpful with transportation (taxis in December to and from Vernon are almost impossible, and Eric drove me himself so I could catch my train!), very knowledgable about Normandy, and as a native-born Givernois he knows a LOT about this wonderful town. Also -- he has TWO CATS!!!!

Review 2:Nothing....

Review 3:It's a cozy place, where you feel at home. Every thing was perfect, clean and comfortable. We stayed at the family apartment, with a small kitchen and a living room, more than enough for us! The owners are awesome, we really enjoyed our stay!

Review 4:Payment by cash only which was not advised by booking.com. Cash payment is no problem if advised prior to check out.

Review 5:Rustic studio apartment. Walking distance to Monet's gardens and restaurants.

Review 6:Many of the plates and cups had big cracks. There was no tea towel in the room. If you wanted to do very much cooking, there is not a lot of equipment or space, but we had what we needed. Just a bit of information about Giverny - there is a bakery but no grocery store - buy what you need in Vernon before you arrive.

Review 7:Location was great. The little garden was nice; unfortunately we did not have warm enough weather to sit in it. The studio was very clean and quaint. At first view it did not look as comfortable as it turned out to be. We enjoyed our stay here. The heater was great. The owner was very accommodating about providing early breakfast, although he didn't quite manage it the first morning. Fresh delicious baguette with juice, coffee and preserves each morning.

Review 8:The host was not there to greet us when we arrived in the evening. The breakfast was not served when promised and the host didn't let us know. We wanted to get to the gardens first thing so we left without breakfast i

Review 9:Quaint place

Review 10:Disorganized owners, difficult to find both at check-in. We didn't have our breakfast because the owner was 40 minutes late and we already left.

Review 11:Very rustic, met our needs for one night, and heat was good.

Review 12:The hosts were nice and interactive. The breakfast was great.Staying in a 15th century building, that was comfortable AND so close to Monet's house - for the price was great! It was an awesome start to our tour de France!

Review 13:We loved staying in the medieval part of the village and our rustic accommodation, though fairly basic, had a real French feel about it which we enjoyed. Eric, our host was helpful and flexible over times for our good French breakfasts and happy to arrange and book a taxi and meal when asked. A peaceful and relaxing stay.

Review 14:Nothing not to like. Just don't expect a new modern hotel, but why would you book here if that is what you wanted? Parking is up the road a bit, which is no issue once you've dropped off any luggage, unless walking and mobility is a serious issue for you.

Review 15:Rustic charm and romantic, we loved it. If you like; old, quaintness, slopey floors, open beams, slightly sooty smell in breakfast room from the open fireplace and tile on earth flooring. As it looks on the website really and charming little garden. Showers ensuite and wash basin in rooms all worked great and very clean. Simple, but filling breakfast, different French breads, (some toasted) plus tea, coffee and jams.

Review 16:I had press hard to get help to make the wifi work.

Review 17:My friend had three mice visit her in the restroom. EKKK!! One way to wake up in the morning. Lovely cottage, excellent way to come to Monet's Garden.

Review 18:Could have been cleaner. Internet did not work.

Review 19:The location! Fabulously close to Monet museum and garden. Tucked away and secluded and at the same time very spacious. Tons of room.

Review 20:Nothing!

Review 21:The overall ambiance was very special - charming and unspoilt. Cool interior to return to on a hot day. The pace of life was slower and easy to slip into. Hostess happily catered for our dietary requirements (coeliac disease).

Review 22:1) My wife went to the toilet in the night and cut her feet. There were nails sticking out of the bedroom floor. we managed to stop the bleeding but it is unpleasant to walk. 2) the toilet (communal) is built into the sloping roof at the top of the stairs. access is by negotiating the door without falling down the stairs. Once the door is closed it is quite difficult to stand up or sit down. 3) the stairs to the bedroom are narrow and steep. difficult to carry a suitcase up

Review 23:charming rural cottage

Review 24:Rustic bordering on chaotic. Accessibility for elderly not good. Breakfast skimpy- 2 baguettes for 4 people, next table 2 baguettes for 2 people??

Review 25:The location, rustic looks, friendly and helpful owner

Review 26:the tea towel was dirty, bed a bit rundown

Review 27:location just metres away from Monet's place, great experience, very different to stay in a hotel. Rustic charm and everything worked. Enjoyed it. Ewa & Michael

Review 28:More equipment in the kitchen would have been useful if you were self catering. We stayed in the cottage and that was great - but the rooms above the breakfast room have very steep stairs which even the fittest would struggle with.

Review 29:This is the perfect place to stay if you like bohemian living. Eclectic pieces of furniture, quaint surroundings all made for the ideal base for an artistic trip to Giverny.

Review 30:The room was cold with only a tiny electric heater which had almost no effect. The bed had heavy covers but they had little warmth. I was so cold that I could n't sleep. The location was up hill.and far from the bus stop and of course there are no taxis in Giverny. The owner refused to take a credit card, insisting on cash payment. He was quite surly when I told him there was no mention of cash only on Booking.com.

Review 31:Just a little effort could turn this rustic little cottage into a memorable, more comfortable and pleasant place to stay.. The breakfast is adequate but very basic.

Review 32:The location on a tiny cobblestone lane, a 15 minute walk to Monet's Gardens. It is very rustic but provides a private home-base for exploring. Good for family with kids or couples traveling together. The cottage has its own walled garden.

Review 33:The owners are fabulous. The place was spotless. The style of the property is wonderfully eccentric and eclectic. Great location, quiet but a pleasant walk to everything.

Review 34:A gorgeous place -- 15th century farmstead in the amazing village of Giverny. Wonderful place to go running, as well. We wanted to see Monet's house, but it was closed; still, we were so NOT disappointed as the place was wonderful and we got to enjoy the amazing Chateau at La Roche-Guyon. One of our favorite places on our journey.

Review 35:My sister and I stayed one lovely night at the very welcoming les rouges gorges . Beautiful, spacious and artistically decorated room was immaculately clean and felt so nice to be in. Located in the heart of medieval giverny there was a lovely view out the window . Breakfast was served at our nominated time and was simple and delicious!! The friendly gracious owner was helpful, providing advice about the region. Definitely recommend

Review 36:- too expansive for what it is! - the rooms and building are nice, charming, definitely, but not at that price... - additionnaly, the rooms were not that clean - and the house was freezing when we arrived with young kids

Review 37:- welcoming and chatting people - charming property - lovely old village

Review 38:A kitchen was provided but may not have the dishes that are needed.

Review 39:Close to Monet gardens & easy trip out of Paris for our first night.Know that it Is located in the middle of a steep, narrow street but parking is safe on the street above. Will need to walk to the b&b-no problem for us. This is a very old, historic place with stone walls and ancient wood...making restoration a challenge that was accomplished. Enjoyed our conversations with owner about the b&b and other locations to visit.

Review 40:The only drawback is that the wifi didn't work all that well.

Review 41:Coming upon Les Rouges Gorges in a little alley was quite a delightful surprise. It is surrounded by stone walls covered with grapevines. The courtyard has a traditional fireplace. The rooms were clean and the furnishings (enamel basins and such) were like antiques. The owners put wildflowers by the windows. It's a charming place and the owners are very friendly and helpful. They took us to a nearby restaurant by the stream that had delicious food and a stunning view. Breakfast consists of bread, orange juice and good coffee.

Review 42:Access is from a very narrow road with no parking or place to stop while unloading bags without blocking road. Room had a musty odour and the bed wasn't level.

Review 43:Rustic character and very quiet.

Review 44:Breakfast included but very basic. Crockery in room cracked and chipped, needs replacing.

Review 45:Good location, walking distance to centre of village and Monet's house and garden.

Review 46:The toilet ran 24 hours all day and night Linens and towels were only ok

Review 47:We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage. It is in the mideval section of Giverny. Charming but basic. The owners were delightful it was clean we had a nice experience feeling as though we were living in another century

Review 48:Poor quality cups, utensils and only enough for one person. The room was damp. The breakfast was only bread, coffee and jam.

Review 49:Location and friendly owners

Review 50:Quaintness of the building, it's age and history, location in a tiny lane of similar small cottages. Sweetness and helpfulness of the young French girl Faustine who was looking after Les Rouges for our brief stay on Bastille Day. Lovely breakfast was included and it was inexpensive.

Review 51:Breakfast could have been a bit better.

Review 52:Very nice accomodation. Full of character. In a great location close to Monet's garden. Eric, the owner was a friendly helpful host.

Review 53:the hostes was amezing , beautiful

Review 54:Great staff, we were given such great welcome and advices. A pleasure

Review 55:Amazing old farmhouse. Comfort and lots of atmosphere.

Review 56:The peace and quiet of the hotel and village

Review 57:Location. Eric was very kind and helpful.

Review 58:Close to monet gardens and museum.

Review 59:15th century accommodation so full of character

Review 60:My family had to share the kitchen and dining room with others.

Review 61:My kids liked old and local house with garden. Free breakfast was good too.

Review 62:Very nice and helpful hosts. Historic street with easy walk to Monet's home.

Review 63:rustic feel of an old small French village

Review 64:It's a step back in time with every convenience you need. Amazing experience!

Review 65:bed was erg slecht. Ik werd wakker met rugpijn.

Review 66:heel oud pand met leuke sfeer

Review 67:A bit of a smell from the toilet.

Review 68:Quiet place, near all interesting touristing places in Giverny.

Review 69:The owners.

Review 70:No lids for saucepan and no kettle. Crockery limited.

Review 71:Eric was very informative and delicious bagels and jam for breakfast

Review 72:Bed and linens need an upgrade

Review 73:Ease of check-in, check-out Owner's wife's theatre Location, very peaceful Great running path

Review 74:Its not near Monet garden Poor breakfast

Review 75:A lovely old property and private room. The owner was helpful and advised how to avoid the queues for Monet's house and garden!

Review 76:Owner drove us to local pub for our supper. Lovely rustic rooms and friendly atmosphere.

Review 77:excellent location lovely peacefull cool setting with a rambling garden. Welcoming helpfull friendly host.Fridge and kettle for tea and coffee

Review 78:it is difficult to find the hotel.

Review 79:comfortable and clean rooms

Review 80:Arrived on a busy weekend - so we understood why room wasn't ready and there were stacks of dirty dishes in the kitchen area. Still would have preferred the place ready when we arrived, especially since we had emailed ahead to ok the time of our arrival. Also shower in one room leaked to room below.

Review 81:Wonderful charming place with friendly hosts. Perfect after a day of exploring Monet's house and gardens with our teenage kids. Owner suggested a great dinner spot and other acivities in the area.

Review 82:The setting is beautiful. But what makes this place exceptional in my opinion is the staff and owners. From the very beginning we were made to feel at home. They went out of their way to make sure all our needs were met and more.

Review 83:The toilet was loud but interesting construction in the house as old as it was.

Review 84:The house and room was perfect, old style design makes you experience the life in a small French village. Mini breakfast served in the morning and the owner joining it was nice.

Review 85:Nothing fancy here just basic but I went in knowing that and was satisfied.

Review 86:Very authentically medieval. Short walk to Monet's Home and Garden and several other points of interest.

Review 87:Absoulutely nothing! Except one thing , maybe not many night restaurantsopen for dinner. However easy to make own food in room.

Review 88:Beautiful building complexes. Old and rustic, yet modern ammenities.Lovely breakfast no charge in romantic separate kitchen area. Very quietand did not hear the other guests. Close to the Rose of France...Giverny , 5 min walk. Eric and Chrystal delightful hosts. There when youneed them but not hovering too much. Angie Morgan

Review 89:Rooms were a bit musty with a fair number of spiders. Free Wi-Fididn't work in our rooms. Shower is cramped.

Review 90:Quaint bed and breakfast near Monet's house and gardens. Nicerestaurants within walking distance. Dog friendly. Tasty french breadand good coffee for breakfast.

Review 91:all was excellent

Review 92:location (near old church and beauty view for the hills beside church)room decor large studio room comfortable authentic quietly 15th-century building :-) hospitable owner

Review 93:Both attic double beds getting depressions. One squeeks every time one moves. Toilet is crammed in on landing. Must be careful or you will fall down the stairs when you step out. Door is opens over 2ft x 2ft landing for stairs, both bedrooms too. A bit dangerous. Also unique is a sign asking you notto put toilet paper in the toilet: There seems to be a ring grinder at the base of the toilet to make sure all is flusged down the half sized pipe. As my French friend said, "You better wait to use a real toilet for any special commissions!"

Review 94:Quiet, location, court yard. Close walking distance 15 mins to Monet's garden and house.

Review 95:The chairs in the kitchen need to be replaced. There needs to be a small fan in the room.

Review 96:This is a rustic place, but we liked it. The bed was comfortable and the garden pleasant.

Review 97:Loved being Monet's village, a leisurely stroll from his beautiful garden. The 500 year old studio and surrounds are quaint in a French country way and very comfortable. Definitely plan on staying there again. Art lovers of the Impressionist school, and garden lovers should love this place There are a lot of day tourists in the village and one of the best things about staying in Rouges Gorges is that it is beautiful in the early mornings and long summer evenings when most of the tourists are gone

Review 98:It would have been better to separate the two single beds rather than have them as a double as the girls didn't sleep well together.

Review 99:We stayed in a separate house two doors away and had the whole place to ourselves. There were two double bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a large sitting room with an extra bed for our fifth family member. The kitchen was the hub of the house, with the two bedrooms and bathroom as rooms off it, and there was a kettle, crockery and cooking equipment as well as milk butter, jam and juice supplied in the fridge. It is a ten minute walk from Monet's waterlily garden and great to be able to dodge the many tourists by retreating back to the house.

Review 100:Eric the owner was friendly and efficient. The attic rooms were very comfortable and breakfast was plentiful with amazing coffee. Pretty courtyard garden and lots of interesting collections around. Will definitely return.

Review 101:Location is a bit difficult to find if you arrive at Giverny by bus. Breakfast was nothing but break, orange juice, and tea. Photos look way too much beautiful b/c of lighting.

Review 102:Owners were nice and helpful to call taxi driver for me.

Review 103:Stairs were hard to navigate with luggage. No refrigerator available to us.

Review 104:Staying in a 500 year old house was interesting. Cutely decorated. Martin was of great help in planning next leg of trip.

Review 105:We had the bedroom downstairs. Our room was filthy and uncared for. The grounds were totally neglected. Breakfast was an ad hoc affair of whatever turns up happens. The place is very badly managed and we will not go back.

Review 106:The house is in Giverny and easy to get to Monet's garden.

Review 107:Rooms in attic were a bit spartan, shower was lovely and hot if a bit small.

Review 108:Lovely old house, if you are looking for different and quirky this is it. Right in the centre of Giverny so handy for gardens etc. Perhaps a bit too relaxed for us.

Review 109:It's like a having a home in French Countryside. The owner is veryfriendly and helpfull. It's a B&B in a very small street wellstructured and with a comun area, where you can bring your things andhave a lunch if necessary.

Review 110:Rusty terrace chairs - we wouldn't have dared sit on them because ofthe jagged metal. Disgusting soap container in bathroom, with left-overbit of soap.

Review 111:Close to Monet's Garden in a pleasant setting.

Review 112:It was a bit of a walk to the Claude Monet gardens but that was fine with us. We needed the exercis.

Review 113:It is a Bed and Breakfast that is housed by a building that dates back to the 1400's. Yet the owner has updated it with plumbing and all the things that a B&B should have. It was fun!

Review 114:the location was good, Giverny is a nice little village that comes alive during the day when the day visitors arrive but in the evening a relaxing place. To get from Vernon train station with luggage take the taxi, which can require a wait as there are only about 3 that we saw. the cafe over the road will order one for you as the taxi stand seemed always empty. your host Eric very accomadating. nice old farm house type rooms, nice for 1 or 2 days.

Review 115:we stayed in house no.2 which was lovely but wi-fi would not reach there, not big deal for me but kids were little bit desperate...:-)))

Review 116:accomodation was lovely, very rustic and very french, owners very friendly, walking distance to Monet gardens which were beautiful, very close to Vernon and train to Paris, owners son Martin with his gitar and his lovely friends made our evenings, kids loved them, thank you Martin

Review 117:It was only a continental breakfast with absolutely no frills.

Review 118:It was quiet and rustic and definitely the flavor of the region. The owner was very gracious and warm.

Review 119:The house was built in the 15th century so is perfectly rustic. We had the two attic rooms (each had a shower in the room and we shared a hall toilet). The rooms were charmingly decorated to match the historic age of the house. Moderate size rooms - with room to easily walk around beds and place luggage. The beds had plenty of heavy blankets which made them very comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was tea, coffee, juice, fresh bread with butter and jams - at whatever time we desired! Easy parking (free) a 30 second walk from the house. We would go back!

Review 120:A little difficult to find with GPS.

Review 121:Fantastic location, lovely rustic property, friendly, accommodating proprietor.
