Reviews for The Mercury

Review 1:The bathroom was freezing cold, the tile paint was flaking off, the desk/table in the bedroom was blistered and battered, in fact all the furniture was battered and tired. There was no mirror in the bedroom.

Review 2:The bedding and bathroom fittings were clean.

Review 3:unfortunatly the room was very cold it ad one small elec rad that ad a very poor output the single bed beneath the window was freezing the cold draught on my partners neck ment she woke with a severe stiff neck the bathroom was also cold as was the corridors and on a cold rainy december night was not what we needed or exspected iam sorry to say

Review 4:the garage spar next door were we add several lattes for warmth

Review 5:It was close to the relatives I was visiting and near to Bolton town. I would also like to say that the staff are excellent and nothing was too much bother for them.

Review 6:toilet set fell off, room a bit shabby, pillow case unwashed and smelled sweaty and door into room ill fitting and rattled every time someone came down the corridor.

Review 7:location, food, staff friendliness

Review 8:The rooms are shabby, stained pillows due them not having protectors on them. Carpet old and woren. Decor dated needs a whole face lift.

Review 9:The staff very friendly and the breakfast was cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere when we were there as there was entertainment on

Review 10:the bathroom a bit dated and the bed and covers very flat and dated also the tv was very small and some channels interfered and unable to watch

Review 11:friendly staff left you alone which is what i wanted

Review 12:The bed was too small it is exactly what it says on the tin. A single room means a single bed so if you appear as a couple then you would be extremely dissappointed

Review 13:I liked everything except bed

Review 14:There wasn't anything to dislike.

Review 15:We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were extremely friendly. We found the facilities to be basic but the rooms were adequate for the money paid.

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Excellent value for money, staff were first class and I would definetly stay again, also multi storey car park directly opposite and for £4 for 24hrs .......no brainer..

Review 18:The smell on entry and the bathrooms The dirty entrance and dirty carpets The dirty exterior on entry The cold water in the morning for my shower Just concentrated on the entertaiment Never again, OK it was cheap but doesnt need to smell that bad The dirty carpet The dirty Reception The bathroom

Review 19:We pulled up to the Motel unaware that it was actually a motel! Slightly worried about our choice we went on in. Staff were friendly, the room was basic but fine for a nights stay and the entertainment in the bar in the evening was great! We had a great time for the low price we paid for a room!

Review 20:nothing

Review 21:this hotel gets bad reviews which I'm not sure why. yes the decor is dated but how does that affect your stay. tea/coffee facilities warm running water. clean toilet and bath/shower. bed is extremely comfy. stayed here cause my partner was doing ironman competition. we hav no complaints with this place.

Review 22:The whole place needs a complete refurbishment. You do get what you pay for but the stay would be so vastly improved by getting rid of the ancient and filthy carpets and putting up wallpaper that wasn't ripped or pealing off. That can still be bearable but what wasn't bearable was the damp musty sweaty smell from the room. I couldn't open the window far enough. There were old telephone ports with exposed wires. When smoke alarms had been fitted the holes in the wall hadn't been sealed and the bath was cracked and I certainly wouldn't have a bath in it. To do this may cost but I definitely would not stay again under the current conditions. I'd happily pay more if the place was refurbished.

Review 23:Very little dealings with the staff but they were always friendly and polite. The location was ideal for getting to the Macron Stadium 10 mins away.

Review 24:The whole place needs updating, fixing or demolishing. I feel for the people that run it, because I am sure they are nice, but you shouldn't stay here unless for the comedic value.

Review 25:The staff were quite nice.

Review 26:everything.dirty stained carpet, ants, fleas jn bedding and bed, exposed dirty walls and wires near power source. No hot water for personal hygiene, noises throughout the night.

Review 27:Nothing we disliked at all.

Review 28:Staff were very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Rooms clean & comfortable. We didn't have an evening meal as we were out at a function but we did have breakfast the following morning which was delicious! Very good prices at this hotel, would recommend.

Review 29:The photo's on booking.com does not represent the rooms, they are tatty and bathroom very grubby. There were no smoke alarms in the communal areas or in the 3 rooms reserved - maybe they were in the process of being upgraded.

Review 30:The entertainment in the evening was interesting, very busy (over 60's) club

Review 31:shame about late breakfast saturday morning,

Review 32:value for money, great having a spare pillow, very good for the price, chap on the desk very helpful and got me a taxi which was on time,a good experience all round

Review 33:Room were porious... People. Could hear you speaking in your room...the doors were not secured properly. the radiators were not on....the rooms were cold!!!!

Review 34:Nothing really

Review 35:Cold room, shower head disgusting,(photo available)very thin summer duvet.no food available on weekend evenings. Shabby decor, needs redecorating.no sign of wi fi.

Review 36:The price and location the staff were friendly

Review 37:Room was quite cold and bathroom was freezing spotted mould here and there. Something dangling off the ceiling and what smelt and looked to be dried sick on the carpet near the cupboard.

Review 38:Staff are friendly although I herd something making a joke to another person about how much luggage I had but apart from that all good

Review 39:Bathroom needs TLC clean but outdated

Review 40:Friendliness of staff from initial greeting to leaving good food at reasonable prices and good bar prices good choice of breakfast

Review 41:Room not as good as our previous visit but clean and warm. next time we will ask for an upgraded room. Hairs in bath on arrival and the bath mixer tap did not work. Having aid this we did not mention these defects to the staff at the time so can not really complain.

Review 42:entertainment was excellent on both nights. brilliant breakfast, staff are the most friendly you can find anywhere, they go out of their way to make your stay a good one. A fair price at the bar. Great value for money Will we stay again YES!

Review 43:It needs a complete refurbishment in all rooms and corridors. The carpets need a deep clean.

Review 44:The bar & the function room are excellent. The rooms are a decent size with everything you need for a nights stay.

Review 45:The room was basic but found it very cold. Funny smell in corridors. When approaching my first thought was Oh No what have we booked but inside better.

Review 46:Nice Bar area Reception Area Staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was nice. Would stay again if up that way.

Review 47:It was a little tired-looking, but, hey - one person's 'tired-looking' is another person's 'homely'!

Review 48:Often I stay in budget chain hotels. This is privately-owned but had everything that a chain could offer. Staff were friendly and more than accommodating; dinner in the hotel's 'Phoenix Nights'-style bar area was cheap and good. There was a delightful view over the moors from my bedroom window and the hotel is well-connected for travelling to other places.

Review 49:Freezing water from the shower at 8 in the morning. Freezing room with one radiator out of three working Noisy people in other rooms will make you not sleep ( super wafer thin walls) Hygiene and cleanliness of the room leave a lot to be desired...

Review 50:The place looks terrible from the outside. Rooms are fairly dated

Review 51:The staff are extremely nice Good atmosphere in the bar. Food in the bar was good Wifi was excellent Excellent Value

Review 52:Could hear people talking outside till the early hours. Could also hear the man next door snoring! Whole place needs a refurb and extra care when cleaning maybe.

Review 53:Staff were very friendly and allowed me to check in early.

Review 54:Easy bus to bolton. Country setting. Good Spar and garage. Entertainment every night. Such very friendly staff and thet could not have helped me more in my desperate need for support

Review 55:Poor quality, worn out furniture. Strange odour in room; thought it might be the drains, but bathroom OK: did not dare to investigate further!!

Review 56:Breakfast

Review 57:This was a no-frills motel when built, so not an architectural gem, and the décor is a little tired, though functional. We asked about the Wi-Fi and were told no password was required, but if we couldn't get on they'd reset it. By the time we tried it we were in bed, it didn't work, but we didn't want to get up to ask for a reset. So a bit disappointing. Woke with aches but we're used to a sponge bed topper! OK for one night though.

Review 58:Room was clean, breakfast excellent. We were greeted pleasantly and invited to watch the live act later. In the end we didn't go but it was good to know it was happening. Surprisingly quiet given the proximity of the A6, but that also made it very easy to find.

Review 59:Rooms need updating, Bathrooms very tired but these are being decorated as we speak.

Review 60:Great value, brilliant breakfast, far superior to some 4 and 5 star hotels we have stayed at. All staff very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful, Great entertainment 5 night a week. Will I stay again YES!

Review 61:the décor could do with updating as could the furnishings etc. building is looking and feels run down.it could have better curb appeal as the service is good inside

Review 62:the staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was great !

Review 63:Looks a bit tatty in places. 80s furnishings etc. The smokers' shelter is right outside the front door and my partner wasn't best pleased to be subject to beery banter from lads on a night out when he was arriving later in the evening.

Review 64:Only live down the road, but we were needing to move out for a few days while our house, which is being renovated, was re-wired. I liked that the motel was clean and the bed comfortable. Also loved the view of Winter Hill. There is a bar and social club attached, and, if I'd had some energy, it would have been good to go along for the quiz night. As it was, stayed in bed and watched TV. Bliss after living among brick dust for a week! Also liked location close to junction with M61.

Review 65:The entire accommodation smells as if you have walked into a swimming pool. Very strong disinfectants used. But had to complain about the filthy conditions. I brought new family for a treat. But it was an embarrassing experience for me. They did come a clean the filth but it still was very tired. Be sure to wear flip flops in bathroom and on carpets. Sorry but that's how we felt..

Review 66:Nightly entertainment good for middle aged upwards. Good beer, good staff, nice breakfast. However all overshadowed by the state of the accommodation.

Review 67:The edging on the built-in furniture was pealing away just about everywhere revealing the chipboard inside (a breeding ground for bacteria). Wallpaper was hanging off the walls. Radiator pipes were filthy. Curtains were hanging down. Mouldy bits in bathroom. I don’t know what was wrong with the bed but I fell out of it three times in the night – and before you ask I am teetotal. Kept banging my head on the bedside table because of its proximity to the bed, & woke my wife up every time that happened. When you emptied the sink in the bathroom it emptied into the bath. I fell off the toilet because the seat was loose! Advertised Wi-Fi worked when it felt like it which was not much. Breakfast was advertised at £5.00 but was actually £5.95. Not much difference but it should have been what is was advertised for. Never again

Review 68:Staff were friendly Price was okay

Review 69:The outside covered smoking area was right by the main entrance so you would have to walk close to those that would be using it. Not nice if you are not a smoker

Review 70:Close to Bolton Uni. Wi-Fi all round. All staff were warm and friendly.Breakfast was cooked fresh which was nice.Only had to ask any of the staff for something and it was done. Would go back again. Good job done by the owners and there great staff

Review 71:room decor very dated. bit of damp on walls.

Review 72:cheap and cheerful. just off junction 15 of m61.pretty quiet despite being adjacent to petrol station. clean enough.

Review 73:The staff were amazing and could not have been more accommodating, for our stay for the ironman. We had to be up at 3am on the day of ironman and they had set out a buffet style breakfast for everyone. Special pasta dinner the night before. It was the perfect location to get to everywhere we neede to be. 10 mins to Pennington flash and Bolton town centre. Only 5 mins to the stadium. Family run business with a real family feel. Thankyou to everyone who looked after us!!
