Reviews for Château de la Pioline
Review 1:We wanted a taste of history and we found it here. It was a beautifully restored old property that had the feel of a lovely home that was very quiet, clean, and comfortable..
Review 2:The biggest problem for us was the lack of a lounge. We arrived at 2pm as agreed that morning and had to wait untill 3:20 for our room, but that was not too bad as we were allowed to have a starter after 2pm as the kitchen was closed. We were given an upgrade to a superior room but looking at the room i think the term superior came from being larger. It had a bed two tiny bedside tables,a coffee table and two dining style chairs so it was not comfortable at all to spend the next 4 hours before dinner. When we went in for dinner we asked if there was somewhere where we could have Gin Tonics and where told outside so we gave up re the lounge and gave it a try and had to come indoors after 15 minutes as it was getting cold and sit at our dining table. I did voice all these issues with the manager that night as i do not believe in saying " yes everything was fine" then giving negative views online.
Review 3:The food was excellent if not a little pricey but i suppose we are used to prices in Spain where we live. The staff where also very helpfull.
Review 4:Sloooow WiFi. Slow hot water supply - got so bored I had a tepid shower. Expense account priced evening meals and €20 each for breakfast - yes €20!
Review 5:Nice looking building.
Review 6:The speed of Wi-Fi internet is nearly zero. It's better for you to not count that you will have an Internet access in this hotel. The room is big, cold and not cosy.
Review 7:The hotel has a spacious private parking and situated in a nice park. The staff is friendly and attentive.
Review 8:Dinner was expensive, not excellent but ok, breakfast was extremelypoor. For 20 euro's extra pp we expect fresh fruits, fresh orangejuice, home made or special jams, fresh local bakery croissantsetcetera. None of it was there.
Review 9:Beautiful historic grounds and building. The location, in the middle ofretail park is strange yet added to our curiosity!
Review 10:Just a quick overnight en route to our destination; lovely old chateau with a good swimming pool to relax in and excellent service. Jean-Paul was very helpful. We did not use restaurant; but the room itself was large and comfortable.
Review 11:We were left to carry in our own luggage with a young baby in tow at arrival. The reception manager was incredibly rude. We were apparently 'upgraded' to a shabby room with non functioning air conditioning, which was unacceptable with a four month old baby in 35 degree heat. When we asked to have the air con fixed, the reception manager said there was nothing wrong with it. We had to request a room with functioning air con that was clean 5 times over 8hrs. We finally had our request granted when I blew a gasket at 9.30pm when nothing had been arranged. We finally had our room changed at 10.30pm and everyone was thoroughly peed off. I think this is about the worst customer experience I've had in 20yrs. It's not a cheap place to stay, so we expected a great deal more and cancelled the second nights stay. Come here if you want to be treated with disdain.
Review 12:The building clearly had a nice setting before the industrial estate was built around it. We enjoyed leaving.
Review 13:Breakfast - too simple as too the luxury hotel.
Review 14:Hotel facility - if not choose bnb, this chateau is very good for a short stay in Aix to taste southern Provence. It is not located in the city centre and need car to go to the nearest restaurant. But that makes the hotel quite and comfortable. Hotel restaurant offers fine dinning for dinner and lunch with very good wine selection. A little bit expensive but worth the value. Hotel staff are very friendly. They will help you with the luggage as there is no lift in the main buildings.
Review 15:Excellent stay from start to end. Communication from the onset was first class, especially Claire who helped with restaurant bookings and information prior to our arrival. The Chateau is just stunning with great location from airport and city centre. The grounds are lovely and rooms fully equipped with everything you need, large and spacious, comfortable bed and beautiful. Food and drink is as equally as great with super friendly and professional service throughout. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Thank you for a great stay!
Review 16:Dido album on loop Conferences impinged on our stay Hectic staff Location entrance on an industrial estate
Review 17:Old historic chateau Friendly atmosphere Good dinner
Review 18:Building needs some attention décor wise. Restaurant was closed although was supposed to be open which meant we had to leave to eat. Annoying as we had driven some distance and did not want to drive again. The hotel is set in a retail park area so not a pleasant area to wander around in.
Review 19:Nice old building.
Review 20:The restaurant wasn't great - expensive for a confused menu.
Review 21:Accommodation was brilliant, private courtyard perfect spot for a rose each evening, staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and will definitely stay here again!
Review 22:Our friends travelling with us had a garden room that was full of mosquitoes, damp and musty, on arrival with dog excretement near front door. Both rooms were poorly lit and needed more interior lighting. Our room required walk up of some 50 stairs. A lift was available but was for goods only. The showers in both rooms were poor. The service was poor. There were not enough staff and some were poorly trained and dressed. Reception area entrance was dirty and uninspiring compared to what it could be. Grounds maintenance was poor.
Review 23:Chateau history attracted us but other negatives detracted from what it could and should have been a pleasant stay
Review 24:We couldn't get a cup of tea without purchasing breakfast. Is 3km from the city centre and old town. No problem at all with a car (or presumably a taxi). The area around the hotel has been built up and developed, but the solitude and beauty of the grounds make up for it, and you could be anywhere once you enter the front gate. Dinner was expensive - pastas/risottos form 23-30 euro but nice. We didn't quite get the same excellent service at dinner - slow to take our order, wrong wine, no water etc. (Probably reflects us accidentally being an hour late and having no French)
Review 25:The grounds and building are beautiful. The rooms were nice and the beds comfortable. Reception staff were particularly helpful. Nice cool pool for the heat. Was a nice overnight with the kids travelling from Nice to Arles.
Review 26:Limited menu better for lunch than dinner but not both. Food ok but v pricey. WiFi was unreliable. No lift.
Review 27:Characterful old building and grounds. Great pool with great sun beds. Relaxed atmosphere. Convenient for Aix
Review 28:We stayed two nights and both nights had function events so it was difficult for us to park our car. Especially on the second night, there was a concert took place and it didn't finish until 1.30 am! It was loud and we could hear everything. Imagine after a long day traveling and the guests couldn't sleep until 1:30? Disgraceful.
Review 29:The deco of the hotel is tasteful. The stay is overall comfortable. Claire one of the staff is a language genius, at the same time she is very informative and helpful, definitely an asset to the hotel!
Review 30:No lift in the hotel. The staff will help you to take care your luggage
Review 31:An amazing place ! We rent a car to travel South France, so the location of the hotel is not our concern.
Review 32:There was a BMW function happening right outside our room that was noisy and disruptive
Review 33:Only one wifi linked apparatus worked per room Very poor directions on web site. The hotel is by Milles and the Set NAV needs updating.
Review 34:Its location
Review 35:Curtains was not clean with dead bees, a lot of mosquitos, tube was blocked and room was very austere
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:The ambience amazing , staff fantastic and Dinner and wine at night exquisite. Would have loved to be there another night
Review 38:The rooms, artwork, swimming pool. Location to Aix and easy access to Marseille airport
Review 39:No kettle in room despite claim on website
Review 40:Food quality
Review 41:Rooms Food Gardens
Review 42:Quiet relaxed and very traditional
Review 43:Location. Train noise.
Review 44:Silence
Review 45:the history and architecture
Review 46:Equipment doesn't work, room cold at arrival,
Review 47:Ambiance chateau , restaurant, park
Review 48:Strange location
Review 49:Elegant
Review 50:On an industrial estate not in open country.location very disappointing
Review 51:Lovely building
Review 52:Con ex Wifi
Review 53:Bed was very good! View on garden as well
Review 54:The hotel was set in large grounds completely secluded and private. it had a beautiful garden for lunch and dinner.
Review 55:This hotel impressed me with the old building. Well maintained and the atmosphere around the chateau was like in a fairy tail.
Review 56:Located in a heavy commercial zone
Review 57:Large comfortable room Private garden Staff are superb. Secluded once inside grounds
Review 58:Pool area, seats dirty Location not really good Evening restaurant menu quite expensive, even just bottle water was really expensive
Review 59:Breakfast
Review 60:Expensive for what it was.
Review 61:Great Rooms main building. Good Parking.
Review 62:Location is far from center and navi system is complicated to reach hotel.
Review 63:Very friendly English speaking staff. Excellent atmosphere and foods. Near to Cezanne points of interest(studio/ residence). Chateau life.
Review 64:Bedroom and bathroom decor poor for a supposedly luxury hotel.breakfast too expensive at €20 - although wonderful Paul's Patisserie nearby
Review 65:Comfortable beds. Pleasant English speaking staff. Easy access by car to Aix centre. Good parking.
Review 66:The renovation of the rooms and bathrooms has been done with very poor quality materials. Also the cleanliness of the bathroom is questionable...
Review 67:The hotel is a very beautiful old château with magnificent gardens, close to Aix-en-Provence. The personnel is extremely polite and helpful. The reception, restaurants, and bar are nicely decorated.
Review 68:The inconvenience of breakfast located in a separate room from that in which we were told to eat it. Lavatory door closed independantly. No choice of pillows.
Review 69:The style of the buildings.and the gardens...the quality of the breakfast food.
Review 70:-bathtub is (too) high to step in and has no curtain nor plexiglas to prevent spilling the water on the floor from the shower.
Review 71:-Staff was very friendly and helpful; -Spacious room, well equipped with Nespresso machine and big screen television; -The Castle and its environment: park, garden, ... -Location close to Aix-en-Provence and the airport.
Review 72:As mentioned in previous reviews, which I should have paid moreattention to in hindsight, the hotel is more focused on business eventsand not a relaxing holiday venue. It is also hard to forget about itslocation in the most unattractive industrial park in Aix, even thoughyou can't see it from within the hotel, you do drive through it onevery journey in and out of Aix and there's nowhere to walk from thehotel. If you're looking for Provencal views and atmosphere this isnot the hotel for you.
Review 73:The chateau itself is well restored and has some stunning architecturalfeatures. The receptionist was very helpful and did his best to providea good level of service. It would work well as a business meeting venueor for a short stay.
Review 74:The castle is a little island of hotel and its grounds in the middle of an industrial estate. Also not easy to find. Food was pricey.
Review 75:We had lovely rooms (triple, but there were 2 separate rooms) which were large and airy with views of the courtyard. Pool was nice and castle garden too
Review 76:wine list is poor and there is no ''somelier''!.
Review 77:super relaxing, great room, good service...friendly staff.Cosy swimming pool. it was perfect.
Review 78:The hotel is set in beautiful grounds but the atmosphere in the'hotel' is awful. There is a real disquiet among the staff whoare clearly not happy working at the hotel for whatever reasons. Thisdisquiet creates a tense and awkward atmosphere which seems to pervadeand affect the guests. I saw nobody at the hotel either smiling orhaving fun, in fact the only people at the hotel who could raise a smilewere the cleaning staff. The atmosphere is not helped by the piped musicwhich seems to be everywhere. Drinks in the mini bar on the first nightare free (but nobody informs you of that) but thereafter they are simplyextortionate, 15 Euros for a small bottle of Coke! The food was thebiggest disappointment, quite simply awful. Overcooked pasta with pestoout of a jar is 27 Euros. The salmon tasted like it had been cooked aweek ago and the Mediterranean 'roasted vegetables' had clearlybeen reheated many times and were not edible. For a 4 star hotel such asthis it simply isn't good enough and we declined to pay for ourmeal. It felt that the hotel had a real contempt for its own guests. Atthe end of our stay we were desperate to leave the place and I wouldadvise anyone on holiday to avoid this hotel at all costs as theexperience was most unsatisfactory.
Review 79:The Chateau is set in beautiful grounds with a superb swimming pool, this unfortunately is where the good news ends.
Review 80:The romantic setting is surrounded by shopping malls, but once inside you don't notice that at all.
Review 81:The setting is lovely with a very nice balance between design and the old setting. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The family room was actually 2 separate and very spacious rooms with a lockable common entrance.
Review 82:The food in the restaurant is terrible. It's expensive, more expensive than the good restaurants in the city, but terrible. Over the 5 nights the menu was the same for lunch and dinner, and we suspect there is no real chef, but simply a heat from frozen facility the French are getting upset about at the moment. We would not consider eating anything other than breakfast there again, and this rather spoils the idea of an oasis away from the busy city. Very disappointing, and something the hotel has to address.
Review 83:The chateau is a superb building and the restoration from 2011 is of a very high standard (it should have won awards), and the staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive.
Review 84:Our room is on the ground floor. It is dark and damp with only basic furtniture and nearly no decor. It just looks so different from the pictures we see on the website. We are very much disappointed at our room, to be frank. The location is amonst lots of car dealer's shops and is not close to the city center. Without a car and a GPS, it is not easy for a traveller to go between the hotel and the AIX city center.
Review 85:The carpark is free of charge. The chateau itself looks beautiful and historic. The ladies at the reception always smile and are quite patient to answer our questions and enquires. One pretty french girl at the reception can speak fluent chinese and is nice to my boy. I love the small garden outside our room, it is refreshing to walk in the garden of the hotel in the morning.
Review 86:The noisy keys / locks and hallways when trying to sleep in.
Review 87:Quite a nice place to stay although reasonably expensive. Strange location within a commercial area so can seem hard to find st first. Obviously the large commercial businesses came after. The chateau itself is very nice, the food excellent and the service is fine. No complaints, but for the price, there shouldn't be any issues. A place I would recommend.
Review 88:The restaurant looked delightful but there was never anybody in it! If they could get more people from outside to use it, so would more guests
Review 89:The staff were delightful as is the setting. It is a lovely haven from the bustle of Aix.
Review 90:The Hotel has re marketed itself to conference corporate markets. Our first night was restful, the second a conference was on and despite the efficiency of the staff the noise was disturbing. The restaurant served good quality food but is expensive. Given the position you are forced to either use it or catch a cab into town which is 15 mins away.
Review 91:The Hotel itself is in a beautiful old building surrounded by well kept grounds, but it is located in an industrial area on the outskirts of Aix.
Review 92:Value for money - for this kind of establishment we would expect more service. I have been charge for 2 teas in the morning while this should be complementary.
Review 93:Building itself
Review 94:difficult to find
Review 95:Pleasant surprise as the environment is not very appealing. Great dinner and breakfast (rather pricey) outside in lovely garden. Nice comfortable and clean room, but not over the top. Great reception and stay for our dog
Review 96:No elevator!!!! however, the staff were very helpful for lifting the luggages! The decoration could be more luxury and stylish!!
Review 97:It is amazing to see a chateau hidden in a commercial area! Great architecture!!! big rooms with characters!
Review 98:Nothing to say here.
Review 99:Very comfortable, very beautiful building, gardens. Nice pool Close to vibrant cultural cent (aix en provence). Exceptionally courteous and friendly staff. Delightful place, wonderful service.
Review 100:I did not like fact that lady from hotel staff did not speak a word inEnglish. I also did not like the fact that butter was expired for aboutone week. This should not have happened in **** hotel. Garden could bemaintained much better as it is very important asset for any chateau!
Review 101:I did like the outdoor swimming pool and possibility of having breakfastoutside in the garden
Review 102:The lights in the room were on a strange circuit where the main room light had to be on before the bathroom and side lights would work. The shower adjustment was broken so we had to hold the shower head the whole time. TV services were a little limited. At breakfast we were inundated by wasps after our jam/fruit which was a little nerve-wracking.
Review 103:Most interesting hotel I have stayed at in a while - I walked around looking at the rooms and the fountain is relaxing to listen to in the evening. Wine list is terrific.
Review 104:Its location is not close to the town centre and not within walkingdistance. We struggled to find it.
Review 105:The chateaux was fantastic. The rooms exquisite and the gardensbreathtaking. Fabulous huge swimming pool that would even satisfy anOlymipc swimmer. The furnishing were beautiful in style with the hotel.I had a fantastic stay and can recommend it freely.
Review 106:Slightly grumpy reception staff. Basic room considering hte price- no ipod doc as advertised, and had a kettle but no cups/tea/etc to make drinks with!
Review 107:Nice pool, amazing restaurant, lovely outside appearance to chateaux.
Review 108:This stabilishment is a very good place for events, seminars ,etc, goodrestaurant, with rooms!! But it is not really a hotel. All the effortsare directed to the events ( at least 3 per day), and the hotel isforgotten. What must be considered is that just a few persons take careof guests, but they do their best. They really need help.
Review 109:The hotel is located amidst car dealerships, megastores and factory outlets, in a rather unattractive environment. To get to the center of Aix-en-Provence, one has to maneuver one's way through several roundabouts and two expressways, which is no easy feat even with a GPS. Terrible location! The staff was not particularly friendly or helpful, except for a young man who was just starting out at his job. We had to take the breakfast buffet because there was no where else to eat nearby; it was not worth its price (20 euros per person) and although the dining room was far from full the one waitress on duty was completely overwhelmed.
Review 110:The hotel is located in a handsome building, recently renovated.
Review 111:It was very nice.
Review 112:It's quiet and very pretty. It was nice to be able to walk on thegrounds under the shade of the trees. It was also nice to have the pool. The dining facilities are very nice especially since there is not a lotof other restaurants in the area.
Review 113:Maybe the location is not so pretty, but its two hectars space, so can'treally see all these shopping centres and so on.
Review 114:The hotel was excellent. Well designed and very comfortable. I recommedit everyone, who looks for high class stay. The family room was actually2 rooms, which made it huge.
Review 115:I liked everything about this hotel.
Review 116:Neighborhood is an industrial park
Review 117:Beautiful chateau!
Review 118:breakfast is poor, considering the level of the hotel..
Review 119:The breakfast is rather expensive according to the quality.
Review 120:The environment around the hotel and well dressed room is excellent.
Review 121:Poor internet and no hot water one morning. Not cheap so should be perfect.
Review 122:Lovely building and gardens
Review 123:Beautiful place and grounds.
Review 124:location, too cold. Inside the room less than 16°C in summerperiod. The air conditioning didn't work.
Review 125:everthing
Review 126:Very helpful friendly staff. Excellent food Beautiful hotel
Review 127:Beautiful gardens and main building.
Review 128:Everything!!! What a great place, stayed for 2 nights, wish we stayed longer! A real experience. Food Devine.
Review 129:Beautiful chateau near the city. Great quiet rooms
