Reviews for Britannia Hotel Bolton
Review 1:No much information when you book for a family room plus they didn't read my special requests
Review 2:I booked for a family room but we didn't get a family room a bit disappointed
Review 3:Bed ok but have slept in more comfortable ones! Room temperature difficult to get right (but succeeded in the end)
Review 4:Great location Outstanding value at the rate I paid
Review 5:Shower curtain was very old and dirty, breakfast was really poor quality cold and undercooked sausages, but on a room only basis had the shower been cleaner it would have been ok for an over night stay just needs some attention to cleaning.
Review 6:location, friendly reception staff, quick check in and check out
Review 7:Booked a double and was allocated a twin....asked the hotel and they told me you do this quite a lot!!!!!! Own up and be honest. Ground floor was very noisy, I felt more tired in the morning than when I went to bed, won't say sleep :( . Awoke by fellow guests going to bed late and people going early 4-5-6 am. Very disappointed.
Review 8:Staff were helpful and honest
Review 9:The place was old and smelt. the restaurant was close only bar food but late only from 6.30pm Room was classes as executive but was small. TV naff. SHower was good and plenty of hot water but that is expected.
Review 10:For £59 this was expenses for what it was
Review 11:Value for money, comfy beds bath and shower exceptionally clean, breakfast plentiful and good value for money if prebooked, would recommend hotel to friends, would make a return visit.
Review 12:No food available at 8.30 when we returned from funeral except toasties at bar which were very poor standard served with stale crisps. No effort made to offer alternative. Bedroom not clean. Nuts and empty Baileys bottle under bed. Stayed for 2 nights. Not serviced properly. Bins not emptied and bed hardly straightened. Beds very hard and hotel far too warm!
Review 13:Reception ist very friendly and helpful on day of arrival.
Review 14:Room was too hot air conditionin sounded like a helicopter outside my room water was too hot when tryin to shower bed was too hard pillows were to hard could hardly open the window tape on the carpet in bar room nearly tripped over it
Review 15:Room was too hot and the cooler didn't work. No one serviced the room. Poor choice of wine and the house wine was awful. I don't recall seeing any staff smile
Review 16:Restaurant closed at 8.30pm, earlier than last year and as we were notmade aware of this we had to find somewhere else to eat, although wewere offered a toasted sandwich and chips. Menu states tuna mayosandwich, battered cod fillet and breaded scampi are vegetarian (v).They are not.
Review 17:Staff are always friendly and helpful. If they don't know the answerto a question they will find someone who does know.
Review 18:This establishment is in desperate need of refurbishment, nothing was pleasing to the eye. I have stayed in better hostels.
Review 19:Location is good that's the only positive response we have got, sorry.
Review 20:Toilet was uncleared on arrival, housekeeping didn't clean room after second night. Took 4 attempts to get invoice emailed to me as they couldn't do it on check out as it was too early
Review 21:Easy access to toad network
Review 22:No restaurant menu available as 'we only have a few resident's' bar menu limited and food quality poor. Desperately in need of refurbishment!
Review 23:Nothing.
Review 24:It was rundown looking and just needed a quick coat of paint and a spruce up to make it more cheerful
Review 25:It was reasonably priced and convenient for what I needed
Review 26:A tired run-down property with not enough staff even for the few people staying when we were there. Our room - an 'upgrade' to an executive - had stains on the carpet, ripped upholstery and flaking paint. Despite leaving our room by 11.30 on Saturday it had not been cleaned by the time we returned. Breakfast was poor. We checked out a day early.
Review 27:fire alarm went off 3 times during our stay. Nobody seemed to know what was going on little information given only told on one occasion to stand out side it was freezing. Not sure if it showed it worked if good or not
Review 28:Good breakfast
Review 29:Cold Shower/bath Water didn't work. No shampoo/body gel and drubken guesys in foyer at 5am which is next to entrance and not very appealing.
Review 30:trouser press broken 2 bulbs not working understaffed dining room understaffed bar inadequate shower very old/poor quality towels
Review 31:warm pleasant reception staff ample car parking
Review 32:Banging noise near room after midnight kept us awake and again early in morning when heating came on pipes made banging noises so didnot get a good nights sleep,
Review 33:Good value
Review 34:No breakfast available for my early starts, the bath tap took 25 mins to fill the bath with lukewarm water, the electrics tripped four times in 3 days. Servings size didn't match the cost of dining in the hotel
Review 35:The price and distance from my worksite was superb
Review 36:The room was unbearably hot. The shower had almost no water. The wifi, doesn't reach the room I've stayed in. The smell on the stairs is incomprehensible.
Review 37:Price. Breakfast.
Review 38:The room was smelling of cigarette smoke and windows were closed to make matters worse. There is no internet connection in the rooms and cumbersome to leave the comfort of your room to get internet.
Review 39:Comfortable bed and provision of electric kettle.
Review 40:Staff were friendly and the Happy Hour was a good idea. Some parts of the hotel is being upgraded so when this is completed it will be a better hotel.
Review 41:No information on breakfast or dinner in the rooms, times etc. no one around to ask. Wi fi down stairs only I didn't want to sit in the cold lounge with my laptop
Review 42:The room was comfortable and clean to an extent. Magazines were dusty
Review 43:No pressure in shower head over bath. Breakfast was cold. Coffee at breakfast was dreadful. Staff were uninterested - never advised breakfast times and this wasn't in the room either, never asked how was my stay. Noise between 11pm and midnight from adjacent rooms opening and closing doors
Review 44:Close to where I needed to be in the morning Comfy bed
Review 45:The bar staff looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. One stood there drinking juice and on her phone while I waited to be seen at the bar (clearly seen me) the cleanliness in the bathroom also wasn't the best, there were small hairs everywhere which isn't very nice.
Review 46:The beds were incredibly comfy!
Review 47:It was horrible. The rooms looks like olden days. There was cockroach in our room. The cupboard were chipped. The walls need repainting. Horrible place to be in when relaxing. The staff was rude and didnt want to help. It was clean properly. Defo would not come back. Pictures look deceiving
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:Could just be our room but on arrival the thermostat read 32 degrees! Needless to say the room was quite an uncomfortable temperature for a while until it cooled down!
Review 50:Large car park. Check in/out very easy. Low price for 2 people on Sat night.
Review 51:No breakfast even though paid £160 for two nights! Door to bathroom punched No room clean next morning Staff rude when asked to book a taxi Reception often unmanned
Review 52:Good location
Review 53:Room very hot! Staff told us nothing they could do but brought us a small fan as the air con wouldn't work. Arrived 2pm as check in was at this time waited an HOUR as they cleaned because the room was not ready and got told check in was from 2pm only for "subject to availability". Room was clean but the staff are not very helpful or welcoming in the slightest.
Review 54:Comfy bed and clean room
Review 55:The hotel was digusting, rooms were dirty, furniture was old and worn.bathroom smelt damp and was dusty and rusty. Bathmatt was dirty shower curtain was dirty and smelt funny.Room was freezing after i told staff members of this they said head office deal with it..its on a timer!!!
Review 56:Nothing about the hotel...the beds were ok
Review 57:I believe my room had been recently painted but the smell was very overwhelming. The room itself was clean and well presented.
Review 58:Location is excellent and plenty of parking.
Review 59:Dirty undies in the room. Suspicious stains on the bed. Hairiest bath ever! Mouldy bath mat. Adjoining door left open even tho we weren't using 2 rooms and air con unit hanging down we moved to a different room which was slightly better but had cigarette ash on the floor food on the floor and the lady with the blonde hair behind reception was so rude!!!?
Review 60:Nothing it was horrid
Review 61:Staff not very approachable ..... Groups of people arguing and revving engines on carpark.... Shouting and playing music at 5am which woke me and my partner up. Room very cold and not very clean.
Review 62:Bar meal was returned a taosty came and the taost was cold they said this was due to the filling being from the fridge .the staff comment was was it would be burnt when returned .not the best comment when paying.
Review 63:Good car parking very suit able
Review 64:Lack of staff, inadequate dining facilities - note - at breakfast a lady slipped on wet tea and coffee through lack of staff maintaining the service.
Review 65:First of all the receptionist had nails so dirty and black he looked like he'd being digging graves with his bare hands! The shower hardly worked it just trickled. The bed pillows were so old they hard started to solidify. The walls were dirty the bathroom tiles cracked and previous occupants hair was nicely still in the bath and on the soaps! Some type of internal alarm went off at around 3:00am and lasted for god knows how long.
Review 66:There was honestly nothing to like!
Review 67:hotel needs an upgrade our room was ok bathroom ok cleanliness-wise but no hooks to put clothes on (dropped off back of door) floor tiles cracked reception desk very shabby & sticky Receptionists not very professional
Review 68:its near my sisters house
Review 69:The pillows not firm enough and no extras in the room. The chair in our room had seen better days.
Review 70:The breakfast was fantastic and the staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 71:Receptionist was very !!! Slow took 15mins to book in with only 3 othersin front of us
Review 72:Great position of university, and decent pub 5mins walk away
Review 73:For what the hotel was I think it's overpriced! It looks like an old peoples home from outside. The shower was like a thunder storm that powerful! Not enough plugs! The telly was so small... Couldn't order any food to room.. Just a shambles wouldn't stay there again.
Review 74:Cleaniness of room(quite dusty) carpet and bed bases very badly stained Coffee machine was off when we returned about 11pm but they offerec to make tea in the kitchen
Review 75:Pleasant staff, clean sheets and towels, position of hotel
Review 76:The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and for the price, excellent value. Why would you want to pay more than the 37 quid it cost ? The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again. On our journey we had other rooms at twice the price that were not fit for purpose.
Review 77:room very small not suitable for wheelchair. Carpet very dirty bed and facilities very basic, needs total refurbishment. Staff nice and friendly but would not stay there again.
Review 78:The food For breakfast was very good but not very warm and it was 8am when we went down. The event was a golden wedding and there was not enough staff for the collection of glasses although again food was great.
Review 79:Staff very unhelpful couldn't be bothered to do any food even when within advertised time scale, just said restaurant closed and cancelled the chit
Review 80:not A lot
Review 81:The rooms and decor are very tired and quite shabby. The cleaning of the room s need more attention to backs of the TV and behind chairs and skirting boards. I realize they have a lot of hen and stag events and the lack of care and cleanliness reflects this
Review 82:I requested a quiet room at the back of the hotel and was given it. The staff are all excellent and nothing is too much trouble even though they are all multi tasking
Review 83:The fact that other guests were noisy and ruined our sleep on both nights. And the staff did little to rectify it?! When we informed reception following the first nights events, the receptionist lied to us stating that the guests were checking out! When they clearly did not!!
Review 84:The location!
Review 85:Breakfast was packed away before 10.30 finish The room was dirty when we arrived and had a strange smell We had to close the window shutter as people kept walking past the room
Review 86:Location
Review 87:Rooms are a little stuffy but then we don't like air con.
Review 88:Location. Friendliness on reception(offered to move us to a more convenient room) Plenty of parking with good access.
Review 89:On returning to my room after spending the day in local places of interest, I found that the room had not been serviced. I immediately reported it to reception and the duty manager wasted no time in resolving the matter.
Review 90:All staff were willing to help resolve any problems or queries.
Review 91:Coffee was not fresh, no plug for sink in bathroom, tired appearance of all the furniture and fittings other than bathroom, no bar at lunchtime. The hotel is run down, tired and out of the sixties (forty years agon!!
Review 92:Friendliness of staff efficiency of shower
Review 93:The bed was too soft for my liking and the bedside lights didn't work. The room was quite small and very tired looking.
Review 94:Great location if you are driving and the reception and bar areas were very pleasant and comfortable.
Review 95:There were maintenance issues: chipped bath panel and soap dispenser falling off the wall! The carpets could do with a change too!
Review 96:Clean and fresh environment.
Review 97:Room not clean Went to the bar to order food there was a girl at the end of the bar talking (staff ) I waited 10 min or more for here to Finnish her conversation then she desided to sever me. Then I ordered food scampi it was very over cooked but as I was very hungry I ate most of it. Then I went to my room were to sleep there was a party of young lads in and they were running around until 12 or 1 o'clock so was not happy really with the stay
Review 98:Hotel was clean but room was not that clean rubbish under Bed
Review 99:Room was ordinary. Cooling didn't work. 2 requests to look at fell on deaf ears. Dated and in need of TLC. staff do try but can only work with so much.
Review 100:The whole place looks shabby and needs a lot of repair work. We checked in late in the evening and the guy on the reception desk was quite incompetent, he didn't seem to know how to use the computer and he was very slow bearing in mind we were tired and there was a queue of people waiting to be dealt with. The general decor was tired and run down and above our bed it looked like a shelf had fallen down and a poor paint job had been done to cover it up (badly!). The bed was not made up properly, it just looked like the sheet had been placed on top and not made up, the last thing we wanted to do late at night! The breakfast selection was good but was luke warm and they weren't geared up for the number of guests staying as items were not replenished very quickly.
Review 101:The location of the hotel was good as we were in Bolton for the Ironman.
Review 102:Pot holes in car park. Bar staff who did not know what a lemon, lime and bitters was. Public area wifi access only. Tired decor and furnishings
Review 103:Handy to city and motorway, cost effective for the budget traveler. Good bar food and generous servings. Restaurant not tried because it was not open early in the week.
Review 104:Two staff expected to serve at the bar, serve food and man reception in the evenings so can take a while to get served in the bar. Wifi only available in public areas and didn't work at all for the last two days. Bar and reception areas ridiculously hot, unbearable. On one day room not cleaned at all. Very small TV that couldn't get bbc 1.
Review 105:Price reasonable. Staff quite friendly. Breakfast not bad. Big car park. Plenty of coffee etc in room.
Review 106:The hotel is a little tired and has a 60's - 70's feel could do with some refurbishment.
Review 107:The friendly and responsive staff and the all night bar and front desk service. The reason we chose this hotel to stay with my son and his family was you allowed pets.
Review 108:Everything. The post code took you elsewhere to start with on the sat nav. Finally located the place and was`even changed for paying with my card.Weather was hot and the air conditioner didnt work, was blowing hot air and the receptionist couldnt help as she was the only person on duty. Was very angry i had to check out after a few hours as it was getting unbearable. Couldnt even use wifi in the rooms.
Review 109:Our room had everything we needed for an overnight stay, as well as being clean and comfortable. The dining room was enticing, but four coaches arrived and we beat a retreat to one of the several hostelries close by. [We felt the coaches indicated a popular hotel.] We stayed with our two dogs. We would stay there again without hesitation.
Review 110:The cooked breakfast was too heavy - everything piled on a smallish plate and this was without the black pudding! The sausages were dire, with a salty aftertaste and should be re-sourced. Customer service on reception was at times indifferent.
Review 111:Scruffy interior, corridors in need of decorating and new carpets. Room 116 had dirty stained net curtains, blue chair stained with white paint/powder, bathroom door had no lock(had been taped over)! and bathroom extractor fan not working.
Review 112:Location, nicely 'out of the way' and beds comfy.
Review 113:Very clean. Comfortable. Very good value for money. Shame rooms don't include breakfast. And WiFi is only available in foyer area and not in rooms. But still very good overall.
Review 114:We attended a friend's wedding & booked a room for an over night stay. Everything from the the wedding reception set up,Bar area, very efficient staff throughout our stay & finished off with a lovely breakfast, made our visit to the Britannia an great experience.
Review 115:Only a little disappointed in 'attention to detail' ie. broken bathroom floor tiles and no door lock, Room 119. Otherwise very comfortable stay.
Review 116:having driven from Carnoustie some 280 miles and 6 hours of driving, arriving at 8.25pm we were told we could not eat after 8.30pm it was not a welcome we expected espescially as the female sounded quite pleased we were to late, she thought it was funny. the room had been stripped back to its basics trouser press removed, 2 mugs and tea and coffee , used the shower gel and shampoo supplied but it was never replaced didnt know we had to ration it for our stay. no room service available, and notices threatening us with a £100 fine if we were to smoke
Review 117:the location, the deal for a room
Review 118:Pets allowed, we don't know if the room we had had a pet before us. It's not hygienic to be in the room where a dog has been. The room next to us had a dog.
Review 119:Ample parking
Review 120:One of the overhead bedside lamps had a flickering bulb. The receptionist on duty was most helpful & brought me a lamp to read by. The problem was resolved quickly.3.
Review 121:The upstairs room had neutral colours, relaxing & comfortable. The room & bathroom was exceptionally clean
Review 122:I was in room 112 and the decor was horrid. It was very tired and grubby looking...not at all like advertised in the photos in the web. I will be staying again however as I am assured that other rooms have been recently decorated.... The corridors are shabby and all looking very tired.
Review 123:The staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. Bar, lounge area and restaurant and pleasant areas to relax in. Very good location for me and plenty of car parking.
Review 124:The steps at the entrance are disgraceful on arrival. Really no need. All it needs is paint. And reception again very worn. I felt for the lovely girl on reception. Thank goodness for her smiling face. Again all it needs is a bit of attention. No need for it these days.
Review 125:we all loved our rooms. So clean and well presented. It was a Saturday night downstairs we heard nothing but upstairs my daughters room she said it was very noisy. But it was a weekend.
Review 126:Very dated and need of a refurb, needs some TLC and maintenance. Wifi in rooms was non existent
Review 127:Friendly staff, tea and coffee making facilities, 24 hour bar, £10 fee for pet for duration of stay, good breakfast
Review 128:The bathroom wasn't very clean there was hair everywhere and the toilet hadn't been cleaned properly. Even the bathroom door was dirty. No plug for the bath
Review 129:Friendly helpful staff the room was nice the bed very comfortable. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice
Review 130:On this occasion we did have a bad experience. On our arrival we went to our rooms and found that we had no water. On reporting this we were told that the hotel had been without water for a good proportion of the day, but no one mentioned this when we checked in!! Was very surprised in the staff seemingly unwilling to help us, we had driven a long way to attend a friends party, eventually after a lot of delay the manager did manage to organise the use of another local facility and in the end the water was back on so all was well that ended well. Again just wanted to say we appreciate this is an occurrence that was beyond the hotel's control but I think they could have done a bit more to help us rather than wait to be pushed into doing something. Very small point as well, this is the first time in the thirteen years we have stayed that we have had to book our breakfast separately, usually we have had it included in the price, don't know if this is a way of increasing the prices but was a little disappointed, probably my fault for booking on line.
Review 131:We have stayed in this hotel on and off for many years and have always found the service and staff to be top notch.
