Reviews for The Castle House
Review 1:Not a bad experience at all but the hot water didn't stretch to 2 baths when getting ready to go out. I just wish I'd got in there first now!!!
Review 2:This really was the best bed and breakfast I've ever stayed in and it would also challenge some of the hotels too! The attention to all details was exceptional, with Lucy & Ian being perfect hosts. Give it a go, as I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Review 3:We felt that the bedroom was too small for elderly people although there was a dressing room, there was not enough room to get in and out of bed.
Review 4:We were made very welcome staff were good as was the breakfast, well situated for the town
Review 5:such a lovely welcoming place to stay. The owners are lovely. We stayed in the Richmond suite, pure luxury, we were out in the cold all day and loved coming back to a hot bath with a big open real fire in the room. The place is spotless and there was ample parking outside and within a 10 second walk of the Castle House. Breakfast was lovely with real butter and thick cut toast plus a big cooked breakfast. cant fault this place. It was recommended to me by my brother and I have already recommended it to friends.
Review 6:We were welcomed, with complimentary drinks and showed to our room, our stay was fantastic due to the excellent hosts, i would recommend the Castle House to all .
Review 7:A warm welcome by Lucy who made us tea and tasty cake and biscuits onour arrival served in the stylish guest lounge/dining room.Centrally located in Richmond , a characterful Georgian Period Yorkshiresmall town, a nicely furnished period style bedroom on the first floor, modern en-suite showeroom spotlessly clean, Nighty Night chocolates leftin a little bag hanging on the bedroom door knob, how sweet? A quietnight's sleep although just off the attractive period Market Square.A tasty full English breakfast with starter of fresh fruit and yoghurt,Fresh Fruit Juice, Cereal, Tea/ Coffee, etc etc . Sadly we couldonly stay for one night on this occasion but would love to return forlonger next time.Fully Recommended in every way.
Review 8:No bad experiences, some may experience difficulty in parking.
Review 9:Made very welcome. A few nice touches eg glass of wine on arrival and chocolates at bed time. Highly recommended.
Review 10:Parking is a pain - the passes are free but if you want to park close to the guest house you have to move the car every two hours. There is long stay parking nearby but this is only good for people fit to climb the hill back to Castle House.
Review 11:A warm welcome to this lovely guest house. A beautiful old building with sloping floors and funny angles doors but immaculately clean, lovely decorations and furnishings and wonderful facilities. The deep bath in the Easby Room bathroom is heavenly. Little touches of luxury like the Occitane toiletries and chocolates in a velvet bag on the door handle at bedtime make a stay her very special. The breakfast was lovely and Castle House is right next to the Market Place.
Review 12:No bad experiences whatsoever
Review 13:Stayed in the Wesley suite for two nights....absolutely lovely! Well decorated and beautifully furnished,Spotlessly clean and added little bits to give that extra touch. Nothing too much bother for the owners. Will certainly stay here again. I recommend it to anyone...
Review 14:Nothing at all, perfect.
Review 15:Fantastic property , luxury inside. If this was in London you could expect it to cost 4-5x more, really is a special little getaway.
Review 16:Having to leave
Review 17:The warm and friendly welcome, including a glass of wine! The beautifully furnished rooms with thoughtful touches throughout. Delicious breakfast with non-stop coffee and tea.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Everything! Our room (The Richmond Suite) was amazing, a sanctuary of relaxation and luxury for us to spend the first two days of our honeymoon in! There was a card and bottle of prosecco waiting for us on arrival and we were made to feel special throughout our stay.
Review 20:They say it is the little touches that make all the difference. Castle House had these in abundance; from the velvet bag of chocolates hung on the door when we returned at night to the hot water bottle (just in case). A fantastic B&B.
Review 21:The guest house is very conveniently located for the centre of Richmond, just a few steps from the Market Square. The hosts were charming. The room was comfortable and well appointed. We slept extremely well. Breakfast was AMAZING. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.
Review 22:Nothing - a perfect venue.
Review 23:Lucy and Ian made us feel so special, they greeted us with complimentary drinks on arrival and had even gone to the effort of leaving us an anniversary card in our room. The extra little touches make The Castle the perfect choice. They have literally thought of everything. A definite must visit should you find yourself in North Yorkshire.
Review 24:There is absolutely nothing to dislike.
Review 25:The friendly hosts, the quirkiness of the building and the extra touches like a hot water bottle and chocolates left on the door handle.
Review 26:The breakfast was excellent. We were given a welcome tray of tea and biscuits which not many do. We had eateries recommended to us and even a table booked after we chose one. What a lovely welcome.
Review 27:Parking can be a bit of a nightmare especially if you don't know the ticketing system before you get there.
Review 28:So much more than bed and breakfast our comfort was of absolute priority to the owners. From the minute we stepped in everything was above expectation and luxurious with so many little touches which made our 24hrs there feel like a mini holiday in a high-end boutique hotel.
Review 29:Fantastic hosts Ian and Lucy who couldn't do more to help with your stay.Even down to booking our restaurant for our evening meal.all high quality toiletries and superior feel to this boutique b and b.I would without doubt stay again at this location and highly recommend.
Review 30:None, but would have liked a Gideon Bible in our room please go to their website and they will provide one for free.
Review 31:Everything and one of the very few locations on our Coast to Coast walk who gave us refreshments on our arrival!
Review 32:Not a bad experience but it is in the disc parking zone and you can only park for 2 hours between 8am and 6pm. If you want to park for longer you must go outside the disc zone and walk back.
Review 33:All the facilities and the lovely owners & staff. The location is fantastic, just a short walk from the centre and the castle.
Review 34:Fantastic location and a beautiful place to stay. Lucy and Ian were excellent hosts, the room was delightful and very clean, cosy and comfortable with everything we required for a night away.
Review 35:Lucky and Ian extremely welcoming. We usually stay in hotels as we don't like the feeling that we are staying in a strangers house, the Castle House felt more like a small boutique hotel than a B&B.Breakfast was fabulous especially the fruit bowl.
Review 36:A perfect night's stay in this very special B&B - a super welcome after our long drive and a breakfast cooked to perfection after a sound night's sleep. Thank you!
Review 37:Parking a bit tricky, the LA need persuading to issue special permits for hotel guests in Richmond.
Review 38:Old fashioned comfort and service, nothing was too much trouble.
Review 39:A very warm greeting with personal touches that were in no way pushy. The house retains its historic features whilst offering all expected modern touches. Great views across surrounding countryside and very close to market square. Excellent overall experience.
Review 40:We didn't stay there long enough!
Review 41:Everything! Top quality in perfect location. Sitting on the terrace with our welcome drink in the evening sun was a delight.
Review 42:Nothing negative to say.
Review 43:Lucy went over and above the call of duty to help us, allowing us to leave our luggage a while after we had checked out. Breakfast was luxury. The toiletries were a cut above the other places we stayed.
Review 44:The moment we walked in the door, we were given a tremendous welcome! Chocolates on the door. Breakfast was fantastic. The owners so friendly! Will go back again!
Review 45:The location is perfect, near the town centre but in a quiet location. The room was wonderful and the breakfast excellent. Perfect for a romantic weekend.
Review 46:Across the board excellent. Locality rooms breakfast and hospitality then raised to the next level well done ian and Lucy. One thing more just go there.
Review 47:Parking in Richmond is not ideal.
Review 48:I've travelled throughout Europe and the U.S. through Booking.com. I review hotels regularly and I've never before given a 10. Everything about this property was perfect, from the uneven old floors to the wonderfully comfortable 4 poster in the Richmond suite. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Review 49:lovely clean accommodation in an excellent location, could not fault The little extras provided make all the difference putting this place top of the list
Review 50:Beautiful rooms, gorgeouly decorated. Lovely little touches like the chocolates at night and lovely bath products. Lucy and Ian couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful
Review 51:The whole experience was excellent from the warm welcome, comfort and cleanliness of room and wonderful breakfast. Lovely touches like bedtime chocolates and small 'snug' make this a great B&B.
Review 52:Bed was very comfortable but mattress was much softer than we are used to especially for my wife who has a back problem. Twisting staircase rather tricky in places with the black carpet.
Review 53:We were made most welcome on arrival by landlady Lucy. Managed to park outside. Bedroom (Easby) on the second floor was very comfortable and well appointed. Separate dressing room with desk. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 54:Late check in and quite an early check out.
Review 55:The room! From the roaring fire to the bath! The little extra touches such as the bedtime chocolates really made our stay feel extra special.
Review 56:It was a truly delightful experience staying here. We enjoyed the friendly welcome from Lucy who had prepared refreshments for us in the snug. She was also very informative about the town and restaurants. Our accommodation was faultless being superbly decorated with sumptuous, high end furnishings and a good range of complimentary drinks and bathroom bits and bobs. The following morning we were served a perfectly cooked and presented breakfast. All in all a five star experience!
Review 57:The room was just as lovely and as large as the photos promised. The bed had the most beautiful, smooth sheets that we had ever slept on. We would heartily recommend.
Review 58:Location is close enough to the market square but far enough away to be peacefully quiet.Staff extremely friendly and welcoming.Room was beautifully presented. We will definately return.
Review 59:No criticism in any way.
Review 60:From the moment we were welcomed so warmly at the front door we were further impressed by the quality of attention to detail in every aspect of our stay. Excellent in every way!
Review 61:Firstly, one very small niggle. The bacon and sausage for breakfast were over done. Could be one off, may never happen again. Secondly parking. This is in no way the fault of the hotel, but all of the parking in the centre of Richmond is disc display, even the parking right in front of the hotel. You are allowed 2 hours and then you have to move your car. This runs from 8 in the morning to 6 at night. It is easy to see why, it is to keep the cars from staying all day in the market area, but unfortunately that might be exactly what you would like to do outside of the hotel. No blame for this attaches to the hotel, but it is still an inconvenience
Review 62:Pretty well everything. Lovely couple who were not only concerned for your welfare, but who also kept an immaculate house. Our room was large and beautiful, and a lot of thought had obviously gone into it. Fried egg for breakfast - I wish I could do them like that.
Review 63:Car parking could be tricky. We were lucky enough to get a park right out the front of the property; other parking is nearby. As with so many English properties & touring, parking is at a premium. Not the owners fault - just something for travellers to be aware of. Our hosts had made us aware.
Review 64:Superb room & facilities. Lovely staff & excellent breakfast.
Review 65:Everything was good especially the extra little touches such as wine on arrival, the chocolates at night and even a card for our anniversary. The staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 66:Room was a bit cramped for one night stay living out of a suitcase
Review 67:Very friendly welcome with tea and biscuits, excellent position in town. House and room finely decorated.
Review 68:Although manageable, 2 hour day time parking restrictions not ideal
Review 69:Richmond itself, location just off market place, beautiful room, lovely breakfast, overall welcome
Review 70:Only downside was the lighting in the rooms was not very bright, and this made reading very difficult in the evenings. We did mention this when we were leaving.
Review 71:Ours was a superior room at the front, which was very comfortable and included a dressing room which was very useful. The view over the outskirts of town was lovely and the hotel was very centrally placed in Richmond and therefore plenty of eating places. The hosts Lucy & Ian could not do enough for us, and were very helpful with recommendations for eating. Breakfast menu was good and varied and they were very adaptable if you wanted to add or leave something out.
Review 72:Having to leave was the only downside.
Review 73:Everything about the Castle House experience, from initial enquiry through to departure, is aimed at making your stay the most enjoyable possible - Lucy is the perfect hostess.
Review 74:Watch out for the parking limits outside the hotel. Parking attendant very keen! Be sure to put your disc in the car straight away when you get there to avoid a fine.
Review 75:Owners very welcoming and helpful. Coffee and biscuits on arrival, much appreciated after the journey. Room very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was first class with fresh produce of a high standard. Menus available to look at in the cosy area of the dining room for local restaurants and books and DVDs to borrow too. Would go again.
Review 76:What a superb Boutique Hotel with lovely owners which made our stay at the Castle House fantastic!!!! Our Room was beautiful clean nothing at all to even question..The Bathroom and the Bath had the Wow Factor.....In fact everything about this little treasure has the Wow Factor....Chocolates on the door at Bedtime, The loan of a parking permit, Drink on arrival and a fabulous breakfast nothing was too much trouble for Lucy & Ian......What more can i say than we will for sure be visiting again.... Thank you
Review 77:Wifi was a bit hit and miss in the house due to the thick Georgian walls, but not enough to put us off returning.
Review 78:We were welcomed very warmly by Lucy upon early arrival, and offered a drink (hot or alcoholic) after signing in. Lucy and Ian are very friendly and warm hosts, and nothing is too much trouble. Upon finding out we were on honeymoon, they even left us a card in our room after a day out. Breakfast was fresh and locally sourced, and cooked to perfection. There was a snug in the breakfast room we were encouraged to use, with books and DVD's for guests. We will be back, and would like to thank you for making our stay so great.
Review 79:There is nothing to dislike about this delightful house.
Review 80:The owners were welcoming and friendly and happy to share their knowledge of the area. Breakfast was good and beautifully cooked. The house is delightful and very attractively presented. Location was excellent and parking facilities provided.
Review 81:Everything , beautiful building, friendly welcome from Ian , our room was decorated to a high standard , had a separate dressing room & lovely bathroom with a free standing bath .dressing gowns provided , everything was quality. After being shown our room we received a complementary glass of wine in the dining area with some nibbles and planned our evening .The breakfast was also superb. You genuinely felt nothing was too much trouble & valued as a guest .The only down side was we only stayed one night as we were travelling to the lake district . We left feeling very relaxed & rested .We would without doubt stay here again if in the area . Credit to the lovely hosts , everything was perfect.
Review 82:Food was very yummy and the Staff/Owners were so welcoming, lovely touch was the little bag on our room door at night saying Good Night with a chocolate for us
Review 83:Our room and bathroom was past it's best and the bed was uncomfortable. The wifi and password system did not really work properly and ther was no mobile signal. This was our first holiday without our children and would have relaxed a little more if we could have maintained contact with them.
Review 84:We were aboslutely blow-away by the amazing scenery, hotel grounds and the food. The hotel public areas were individual, pleasantly fusty and quirky. We loved this because there was not a hint of corporate banality, instead: antique furniture, faded carpets, comfy sofas. the required stags heads and just a hint of tartan. The resaurant with breathtaking views over the loch served delicious food with excellent unhurried service. The grounds were full of lovely surprises at every turn. Front of house staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful.
Review 85:Tea cups in the room-would prefer a mug!
Review 86:Email welcome from Hosts to acknowledge booking, introduce themselves & suggest places to eat. Overall ambience of House. Size & facilities of well prepared room. Being greeted with a glass of wine! Real coffee in the room. Size of bath towels. Breakfast choices & good selection.
Review 87:Absolutely beautiful, great spot with views of the marketplace and castle, gorgeous decor, amazing food, excellent service. Well worth the visit.
Review 88:The only thing I could criticize would be the WiFi, the signal was barely one bar and so weak it kept dropping off. Pretty much unusable, but in an old house with thick walls I can imagine it's difficult to get full signal throughout.
Review 89:Had a beautiful stay, even though it was one night, we had a private in room tub with roaring open fire and luxury 4 poster bed, we had beautiful views over Richmond from our room. There were plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy and great scenery around the local area. The staff were happy and helpful and assisted with little extra requests without an issue. I would definitely stay again.
Review 90:nothing we jid not like.
Review 91:the genuine way in that we were treated. nothing was a trouble in being able to help and not being in your face at the same time.
Review 92:TV service kept dropping out but this was probably caused by poor signal strength. The accommodation was reasonably ok for one person but probably somewhat cramped for two. Being from Australia I am used to stand up showers and not sit down in the bath type showers. It was a warm evening which necessitated keeping the windows open onto the main road below. It's my fault that I'm a light sleeper.
Review 93:Early check in. Friendly welcome. Great location. Spotless rooms. Excellent breakfast.
Review 94:wifi was a bit weak in our room
Review 95:wonderful warm welcome. Glass of wine when we arrived. Gorgeous bedroom- very romantic. Great location. Breakfast was delicious
Review 96:Nothing.
Review 97:We stayed in the Richmond Suite for 2 nights, and it was Perfect, fantastic room . My wife loved it ,also lovely breakfast and great hosts Lucy & Ian. Would definitely stay here again. Previous guests have mentioned the parking which is a pain in Richmond period. so don't let it put you off staying here.
Review 98:Parking was a bit tight but always managed to get in.
Review 99:Everything about this place is perfect, location, the house, the rooms, the breakfast, the glass of wine on arrival, the hosts Ian and Lucy who couldn't do enough for us, the goodnight chocolates......wonderful!! Thankyou for making our stay so relaxing.
Review 100:Fabulous friendly welcome, the room was lovely and immaculately clean. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Hosts Lucy and Ian are charming and nothing is too much trouble, Will definitely book again and would highly recommend to anyone planning a stay in Richmond..
