Reviews for Hôtel Artea Aix centre
Review 1:The water was perfect for a shower but could have been hotter for bath. The shower curtain could be out a little further so it did not tend to cling during a shower. The mini-bar beverages were expensive so we got beverages at a nearby grocery store. As noted, there is no elevator and there is a long flight of stairs to the reception and first floor.
Review 2:We were upgraded to a big room on the corner with two french windows with a balcony on the first floor. It is a very big room with high ceilings and exposed rafters. There are two suitcase stands, night stands, a nice desk with a drawer and built-in mini-bar. The bathroom is large with a bathtub and shower and has nice bath products, L'Occitane shower gel and shampoo. There is also an electric kettle with tea and coffee makings. There is an open closet with plenty of room to unpack. The internet is fast and reliable enough for video streaming. The breakfast is good for 12 euro if you like a hearty breakfast with ham, cheese, baguettes, croissants, cereal, fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, sausage, and crepes otherwise go across the street. The coffee machine which grinds beans at each serving is fairly good. The staff are nice and speak good English. The hotel is an 8 minute walk from the train station and right by the main round about that starts the Cours Mirabeau, a main street with restaurants. Old town with major sights are within walking distance. Over all very nice, comfortable and convenient place to stay and a good value.
Review 3:The drainage system from the upstairs rooms ran past our room (104). Every time someone used a toilet, bath, shower etc the waste could be heard running away.
Review 4:Location is very good
Review 5:As several times stated; they need a kind of elevator; at least for the luggage without harming the historical and beautiful texture of the building.
Review 6:The hotel has a very central location. The front desk clerks Abdelhamed and Gabriel were really very helpful and sincere (and our special thanks go to kind-and-eager-to-help Abdelhamed especially). We'll consider to stay here again in coming years. thank you guys; wish you a happy life there. Merci(:
Review 7:The entrance part of the hotel looks 'horribly' dirty - there is no lift and no help for the luggage - the standard double rooms are really really tiny.
Review 8:There is no wardrobe so I had to literally live out of my suitcase. I prefer unpacking all my things but in this hotel I couldn't. The window is one big door-like window so not ideal to leave open for fresh air in winter. I like leaving a small window open behind a curtain to let in constant fresh air. The breakfast is too expensive - 12 euros, especially since one can get a good breakfast at the many restaurants in the area from 5.20 to 7.00 euros. There is no lift but not so bad as the hotel is only on 2 floors, the reception with rooms on the first floor and more rooms on the second floor. Only the entrance is on the ground floor with steps taking you up to the hotel as you step inside.
Review 9:I loved the excellent location, just a few steps from la Rotonde and Cours Mirabeau, and since I was there in late November the Christmas all day market made Cours Mirabeau a lively place to be. I found the hotel nice, but not exceptional/ I had a lovely big bed and that for my single occupation and also a good sized bathroom with bath and shower. The bath products are very generous and comes from L'Occitane - fantastic. Also heated towel rails are always nice to find. There is also a heater in the room but with the lack of smaller windows the air dries so that you can't breathe. The only window is the size of a door and opens like a door too, so I couldn't leave it open for long. The absence of a wardrobe or even a chest of drawers put a damper on my stay. I detest literally having to live out of my suitcase. The staff were kind and helpful.
Review 10:Our room was extremely noisy : despite the double windows noise from the avenue was high. Moreover, we could hear our neighbours taking a shower or speaking... The noise of breakfast room next to our room was also very disturbing. Even with a discount, the price is not worth it.
Review 11:Staff was very friendly; Location near the city center
Review 12:only no elevator for use, only for bags on arrival and departure
Review 13:friendly staff good room service amazing shower comfortable bed we had room 108 and 203 amazing!
Review 14:Room was small but that's pretty normal in France... Also, no elevator and we had heavy luggage but the staff helped us.
Review 15:Phenomenal location just off of the main 'rotonde' and steps from amazing shopping and picturesque winding streets. Great selection of bars and 24/7 restaurants also around the corner and handy if you're arriving late, as we did. Lovely bathroom (best shower I had on this trip) and Occitane products.
Review 16:Was asked to pay for our room upfront. Kids must pay the same rate for breakfast, which is rather expensive. Only public parking available, which rather expensive and no Discount from the hotel. Located direct on the busy road, very noisy at night.
Review 17:Room had good size for 3 adults, central location, easy to find. Breakfast was very good.
Review 18:Lovely old stone building. Very nice deep tub for a relaxing bath. Your choice of feather or synthetic pillow was available in the room. I wanted a room on the outskirts of Nimes and this fit the bill.
Review 19:In attentive reception staff who couldn't even manage eye contact when we passed through lobby. Inadequate bathroom and disappointing decor. No elevator, so quite a hike up to room with suitcases.
Review 20:Great location, easy walking distance from sights and life of Aix. Room was clean, if lacking in style.
Review 21:The hotel doesnt have elevator and we had to drag 7 23kg bags up a very long winding stairs to get to the front desk and then another one to get to the rooms
Review 22:The front desk clerks were all very friendly and helpful.
Review 23:We had an extremely small room which was nothing like what we had booked. Nothing was said about this until we were checking out at which time a complimentary breakfast was offered. To be fair, the breakfast was very good and it would seem our tiny-room experience was an exception.
Review 24:Excellent location. Very good restaurant recommendation for dinner (Le Patio).
Review 25:Rundown: dirty carpets in the hallways with large black stains. Bad lighting, dirty hallway, badly maintained (walls, ceilings ha doors all need re-painting). Badly furnished, ugly decoration. No cold water in the bathroom. (For 140eur per night, not including breakfast, out of the high season) I expect far, far more. A big disappointment.
Review 26:Location
Review 27:My only criticism was the lack of sound proofing. I could clearly here the shower in the room next door. However, I think this is nothing unusual for French hotels. It seems a shame to have spent so much money renovating without replacing what seem to be flimsy stud walls.
Review 28:The room was clean, the bed comfortable. Both bedroom and bathroom were recently updated to a good standard. The shower was particularly good with a plentiful supply of hot water.
Review 29:there was no parking facilities (parking in the city is very very expensive), no balcony/terrace, Tea/coffee/cup were not replaced, so when you use them once, you won't get replacement for the rest of the stay. Housekeeping was poor - there were cleaning tools and kits left in the hall way, and there was smell of cooking oil as well. The building felt more like a holiday apartment, not a hotel. It said it includes the ironing facilities, but it didn't. The info on the website wasn't really accurate - I'd check with the hotel first.
Review 30:Size of the room, staff, toiletries in the bathroom.
Review 31:almost a good experience apart from a beetle big like a finger near our door which raises some doubt about cleanliness.
Review 32:Nice staff, good location, wide room and bathroom.
Review 33:Nothing to dislike.
Review 34:A good quality three star hotel with clean, large rooms and internet access that worked all the time. Very good value at the discounted price that I received!
Review 35:Excellent location, ten minutes from the bus station and very close to the Grand Theatre. Extremely kind and friendly staff, spacious room with tea making facilities, a very comfortable bed with perfect pillows, a good size bathroom with tub. The breakfast is described as 'continental' but is in fact a very good buffet with hot and cold choices. Worth the extra charge. A very enjoyable stay.
Review 36:The reception is at the first floor and there is no lift! Not a good hotel for people with disabilities. The room was small and there was no place to put your clothes.
Review 37:Very good location, very close to the centre.
Review 38:The location is great, especially if you are coming for Festival d'Aix -- both Grand Theatre de Provence and Theatre d'Archeveche are 5-10 minutes to walk. The room is modest, the whole design is petty old-fashioned, but everything you need for a short stay is available. And the air conditioning is very strong -- in sommer in Aix it is much more important than the decoration of the room
Review 39:- No elevator and the front desk located on the first floor - No safe in our room - No availability at the hotel parking
Review 40:- Next to the city centre - Spacious rooms and charming atmosphere (kept the old building features) - Excellent quality toiletries - Although next to a busy street no noises at all - Friendly staff
Review 41:Check in was poor, it was interesting how the receptionist spent a lot of time helping the French woman in front of us and then when it came to us kept us the first thing he asked for was the payment and then did not really explain anything else. Although we were offered a glass of water by someone else. there was no TV remote in the room and dispite numous requests we never got one.
Review 42:Location was good for old town and bus/train stations Room was small but comfortable, with good air conditioning and fridge Good breakfast
Review 43:Lovely, quiet room and friendly helpful staff. the hotel is very convenient and everything within walking distance. there were tea making facilities and a bar fridge which we appreciated.
Review 44:I didn't like having to carry heavy suitcases up a flight of stairs. I dint like the inadequate sound proofing between rooms.
Review 45:Position and a fridge
Review 46:The hotel seems a bit run-down and needs a refurb. In our room the plaster was bubbling in one area and the paint was peeling off.
Review 47:Hotel is very well situated, just a short stroll from the Cours Mirabeau. Room was fairly well appointed - mini-bar, tv, toiletries etc.
Review 48:We liked everything, though thought the wifi a bit sporadic
Review 49:Very central position. Good size room. All the facilities you could want. Noise insulation very good. Large, comfortable bed. Good breakfast if you want to eat a lot - 12E for as much as you can eat. Smaller, cheaper breakfast available in nearby streets.
Review 50:The car park space could accommodate six cars when we arrived but when we left eight cars are parked. I used two minutes to park the car at first but at last it took me almost twenty minutes to manipulate the C250 Mercedes which was only an ordinary sized car to dive backwards out of there without scratching my rented vehicle.
Review 51:Break fast is good especially the home made bread. Anything you want to eat, shop and go iare within walking distance. There are good English speaking receptionist and they are polite and helpful.
Review 52:The alley to room was use old rugs ., and dirty with a liquid mark on the rugs this reduce the inside looking of hotel, however the room just perfect.
Review 53:The location just perfect only 5 min walk to centre of Aix - nearby the tourist office. Room was large , amenities just perfect as well the bath room. Coffee maker available in room, ac as well. No lift however staff was helpful to bring mu huge luggage to 1st floor where the receptionist area located.
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:Nice hotel less than 10 minute walk from stations. Right by the main fountain which leads to the squares filled with restaurants and drinking. Lots of chain shops nearby for shoppers.
Review 56:Wasn't prepared for the reception being on one level above entry. However, manager met us at the door and carried luggage to our second floor rooms.
Review 57:Location was ideal! Staff were accommodating and spoke English. Breakfast room was a little small for the number of people staying there.
Review 58:My room was located at some distance from the hotel and accessed by leaving the hotel entrance and walking halfway round the block to an apartment having a separate access door off the street. The room was very clean but basic.
Review 59:Central location. Quiet.
Review 60:With 3 of us, it would have been nice to have a sink outside of the bathroom. Reception is on 2nd floor so can be difficult with large bags. When we left they let us use freight elevator. WiFi kind of slow.
Review 61:Great location. Best breakfast that we had in Europe. Fantastic croissants and pain au chocolat that were warm and flaky - amazing. I would stay there again just for them.
Review 62:My phone & I pad connected to WiFi but didnt work - not sure why so used 4G Room & Bathroom a bit tired
Review 63:location - close to Theatre & Cours Mirabeau secure parking closeby Comfortable bed quiet room at back of Hotel Friendly staff on reception
Review 64:Someone pulled the fire alarm at 4 a. m. Not good . The bedroom was hot, when you opened the window it was noisey, although there was 2 a/c in the room..
Review 65:Location is handy for the center .We found it easily which is good for us.
Review 66:Our only problem was we could never get the free wifi to work. We have iPhones and the staff said sometimes they don't work well with their wifi.
Review 67:The location was perfect. And the staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good for being right in the hotel and that way not needing to find someplace else to go.
Review 68:No bad experience at all. Some areas of room looked older, but they added to the charm.
Review 69:Room was spacious for 3 adults, bathroom was well equipped, staff was very friendly and switched easily to English when necessary.
Review 70:We only stayed for one night, but certainly enjoyed our stay here. We had pre arranged for parking which was perfect. There is a small secure parking garage off site but not at all far. The staff give you very good directions. Our room was a great size and the bathroom was also a good size. The bed was very comfortable. We certainly liked being very closed to the restaurants. One word of caution there are steps up to the main reception, I went to check in first the they advised to leave the luggage down stairs and arranged for it to be brought up to our room which was great. We enjoyed I our stay and would come back again.
Review 71:The entry and Public spaces are very run down but the rooms make up for it. Breakfast was ok but a bit pricey at 10 euro each.
Review 72:From the outside this does not look like a great place to stay. But the superior room we booked had been renovated to a very good standard. Very comfortable room close to the centre of town.
Review 73:Need to carry bags to first floor Reception.
Review 74:Obviously better for Euro travellers who tend to have smaller bags as they need to be carried up to the first floor. Easy from there. Friendly reception staff. A well located property close to the Cours Mirabeau. Parking is difficult in Aix so best to use the large underground carpark about 50mtrs from the hotel but dont lose the car in the huge carpark as it can be confusing for first timers. About E12-E15 onight parking but best available nearby. Dont drive in Aix as it much easier to walk around.
Review 75:The hotel advertises there is a lift but it only goes to the first floor and only in the main part of the hotel. So if it is important to you to have a lift, make sure when you book that you specific you want a room on the first floor in the main section of the hotel, not at the rear. The air-conditioning was not working, so it was quite noisy sleeping at night with the windows open.
Review 76:The hotel was very well located to the town centre and tourist office. It has great character with reminders of the composer's house all around. The room as very well appointed with everything you need and the small balcony was lovely.
Review 77:Street noise went window is open Narrow bath
Review 78:Lift from street level to reception Less than !0 min walk from train and bus station Less than 5 min walk to old town Less than 5 min walk two laundromats 10 min walk to daily fresh produce market Good restaurants close by ATM across the street Two car rental companies in the street Easy access to motorways
Review 79:Not really a problem, but for people with $$ these days a 20 euro breakfast is very expensive.
Review 80:After an absence of 16 yrs to the area, I, an elderly grandmother, took my adult children to the Provence. (We live in Canada and USA) Old as the building is, the rooms had been smartly renovated, and were very quiet.
Review 81:The lift was not working and the stairway was very dark and looks old.
Review 82:Perfect location. Everything is just a walk away. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 83:The breakfast was adequate but you can do better on the street. The lighting in the room was poor. Wifi didn't work in the room but it did work in the public places in the hotel
Review 84:The room was clean and the air conditioning efficient. The breakfast was adequate The bed provided adequate comfort
Review 85:Room at front somewhat noisy. Hallways in need of refresh and better entrance. Initial impression a bit concerning.
Review 86:Location very close to historic centre. Very accommodating staff for our bicycles. Very clean, well maintained rooms.
Review 87:Location near center of city and tourist office. We had a suite with two rooms so splitting the cost between two couples made the rate pretty good for Aix. Rooms were comfortable with a nice bath. Facing a quiet side street and a/c made the stay very quiet.
Review 88:Rooms are not cleaned every day. The bathroom door can not be closed. First morning no hot water. No safe deposit box in the room, which combined with the fact that keys to the rooms can be seen on a prominent and accessible place at the reception, and no one was there permanently, does not feel good and safer. And what really shocked me - the air conditioner was set to 22C with the fan on maximum, but the remote it was missing!! When I went to reception in 01am to ask for it, the guy there goes with the question what we will do with it, will we increase or will reduce?!?! :(
Review 89:Very good location, WiFi is OK, beautiful ceiling and the bath items
Review 90:No chance of hot water after 8 in the morning until after 9 in the evening. Barely-warm water OK in hot weather but might be a problem in winter. Towels need to be changed every day as rather thin!
Review 91:Really good central location for seeing Aix, also in walking distance from station if one needed it. Really nice staff - very welcoming & helpful. Rooms always well-cleaned. Useful parking spot in front of hotel for loading/unloading baggage.
Review 92:It was very well located! close to the heart of the city. Also, the fact that is separate from the other rooms of the hotel, makes it more private, quiet, and independent. Like it very much! if we ever go back to Aix-en-Provence, we'll definitely book again at Hotel Artea & hopefully the same room (#137).
Review 93:Bizzare lift - best avoided Needed 6 metre arms to access the shampoo from the bath Huge walk in wardrope with minimal hanging space
Review 94:Location Nice room
Review 95:The guest use the disabled lift to bring in and out of luggage, when we leave the lift and the backdoor malfunction at the same time, we were trap in between for 10mins, anxious to catch our train.
Review 96:looks to be recently decorated very close to old town and modern shopping area cleanness of room
Review 97:The hotel on itself: No elevator; The entrance hall seems abandoned; No actual front hotel parking (for baggage delivery) as it was always occupied.
Review 98:The excellent room Location
Review 99:The area is just off the centre and has a slightly unsavoury feel in the street - a tramp going through the bins across the road for instance
Review 100:The hotel room was fine but the location is poor. The reception is on the 1st floor and your cases have to be carried up the stairs. The room and breakfast were up to the standard expected
Review 101:Room felt unfinished Upstairs guests seemed to be doing feng shui all hours of the day/night and it sounded like they were in our room (might need rugs)
Review 102:Great location Tastefully decorated Attentive staff Bathroom amenities were quality Did I mention the location?
Review 103:Difficult to access by car. There is a luggage drop-off space, but this was not explained. The private car park is rapacious at €17 per day. The nearby Parc de la Rotonde was half that for 15 hours overnight. A bit noisy, despite overlooking an inside courtyard. Access to toilet from bathroom a bit clumsy.
Review 104:Location. Nice big room. Tea & coffee making facilities.
Review 105:Wifi a bit hit and miss and no English speaking TV channels. Room was hot on arrival and air con not working on the first night.
Review 106:Overall very good. central to all attractions and eating places
Review 107:A staff member had opened my locked room door while I was in my room. She knocked but used her set of keys to open the door before I could even react to her. I was very upset but she was very sincere in her apology. Regardless, this is unacceptable. Air conditioning also kept breaking down throughout the night but reception was also very sincere in wanting to get it fixed. It was also a little difficult locating the private carpark. Despite all that, it's still a nice hotel.
Review 108:It is just a short walk away from Cours Mirabeau and very near other amenities like the Tourism Office and your usual shops like H&M, Zara, etc. Staff was polite and friendly. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Wifi worked well. Many had complained about the reception, but it's really fine. There's a flight of stairs to go up to the reception but you can always go further down the street to use the lift. Still very convenient.
Review 109:Excellent location Spacious comfortable room Very friendly helpful staff Wifi excellent L'Occitane welcome pack We loved our stay there
Review 110:Nothing.
Review 111:The location was a little bit further from the train station but close to the centre of the city. Just behind the hotel you can find plenty of restaurants and branded stores. Most of the attractions are within walking distance. Staffs were are also very attentive to us.
Review 112:They've made a bit attempt to soundproof but being next to main road means some gets through. Also door thin and poor fit so other client noise would come into room. Bit mean on milk, (you have to pay).
Review 113:Right on edge of city, very good WiFi, lovely room, good Aircon, very nice staff. You get tea/coffee but no milk.
Review 114:The rooms were expensive especially considering this was really a two star hotel. There was no functional elevator. Common areas were very old and stained or dirty. The hotel was close to the nice center of town but the actual area in which it is situated was run down with graffiti and garbage. Breakfast was very expensive. Parking facilities were also expensive and spatially very tight.
Review 115:The macro location was good in that it was close to the city center. Also the rooms were a good size and they had recently been modestly updated.
Review 116:Staff were not overly friendly or helpful
Review 117:Excellent location to walk to the main tourist spots, shops, restaurants etc. Room was spacious and great bathroom with powerful shower. Good AC and wifi.
Review 118:For the price we paid, we felt the room was a bit small and the breakfast a bit basic. Nevertheless, room and breakfast were by no means bad.
Review 119:Location is excellent, a few minutes' walk from the loveliest parts of town. Staff was courteous and helpful.
Review 120:Hotel parking was limited to 5 slots in the public carpark but parking in July was not an issue but could be in the height of summer
Review 121:Excellent location in the centre of Aix and only 5 minutes walk to Cours Mirabeau
Review 122:Not easy for parking, but the public under ground car park is very close, and it's cheaper than park with the hotel.
Review 123:Excellent location, and helpful staff. The room is clean.
Review 124:No negatives here, all positive.
Review 125:The location was perfect, just a short walk from the bus station and 5 minutes from the main pedestrian restaurant areas. Staff was accommodating, room was wonderful...very clean, high ceilings, great windows, plenty of natural light. Lovely experience.
Review 126:The public areas are in great need of paint and modernization. It almost puts you off before you get to your room.
Review 127:This hotel is in a great location and has parking ...which is an issue in Aix. The rooms, beds, baths, etc were clean and comfortable.
Review 128:we were given suite situated outside the hotel with its own access from the street. Suite had a lot of space but was a bit spooky.
Review 129:Hotel had private parking garage
Review 130:We had a family next to us that was extremely loud, though the staff did take care of the issue (apparently we weren't the only ones to complain). Also, they provided coffee and tea in the room when we checked in, however did not refill it on subsequent days, which was a bit disappointing. Finally, there is a small, inconsequential city tax visitors need to be aware of that needs to be paid on check out.
Review 131:The staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly! You probably couldn't find a better value in terms of location and staff experience, courtesy, and attentiveness!
Review 132:finishing work was lacking
Review 133:Had tea in the room, nice smelling soap.
Review 134:I liked the location, spacious room and pleasant staff.
Review 135:No elevator, the bed wasn't comfortable at all.
Review 136:Location next to the main boulevard.
Review 137:Location was great.
Review 138:No elevator, public parking
