Reviews for Hôtel L'Ecrin
Review 1:Nothing our stay was perfect
Review 2:Have stayed here before and never ceases to amaze how central the location ( you can walk to anywhere) the staff are so happy, welcoming and helpful. Would stay again without hesitation
Review 3:Made very welcome on arrival, baggage carried to our room.lovely old building .Walking distance to all Honfleur has to offer.Secure off street parking.
Review 4:We were in the "guest houses," not the main house. There was no air circulation, the furnishings were old and not very clean.
Review 5:Location, parking and a lovely house.
Review 6:A very fine traditional hotel located in the heart of Honfleur. Our courtyard room was on the small side, but competitively priced considering the advantages the hotel brings.
Review 7:All good
Review 8:Location was good and secure parking was included. Once there, it was an easy walk to the town's historical attractions and restaurants. Breakfast was excellent and staff went out of their was to be helpful. The hotel was a nice size and gave us a feeling of intimacy and elegance. It was the type of attractive traditional decor that we like to have while travelling in Europe. WiFi worked well in our room.
Review 9:Would have liked a bath as well as a shower, and coffee/tea making facilities
Review 10:Great location, and really friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely go again!
Review 11:The bathroom walls need to be repaired and repainted.
Review 12:This is a lovely mansion filled with antiques. Our room was beautiful, but the adjoining bathroom needed work. The location is an easy 5 minute walk to the harbour. Based on the reviews, we thought we might go elsewhere for breakfast. Fortunately, we looked into the pretty conservatory and discovered that it was sunny, filled with huge blooming geraniums, and no one else was there. We took a window seat with a view of the garden, and we were treated like royalty by the hotelier (I think his name might have been Tam?) The buffet breakfast was absolutely delicious -- absolutely worth the price: freshly squeezed orange juice (and I liked watching the oranges being squeezed), rillettes, pates, eggs that you boil yourself (although we were given lots of assistance!), cakes, on and on..... I would certainly stay here again.
Review 13:A little difficult to find as the street is only one block long and hotel- which in photos appears to stand alone - is set back from the street behind a gated entry.
Review 14:Lovely accommodations located a short walk from the Basin and center of the town.
Review 15:Room had a tub with what was supposed to be a shower, but it was unusable. Had to sit in tub and use the shower head sitting. Shower head had a leak with water shooting out the bottom, so entire bathroom got soaked. I am almost 60 and although in good health, getting out of that wet tub was problematic because there are no safety handles. Both my wife and I agree we would not come back if we had to stay in that room again.
Review 16:Location. Friendliness of staff. Beauty of property.
Review 17:Internet refused to cooperate, despite, or perhaps because of control system. Friends traveling with us had problems with size of room vs expectation/booking.
Review 18:Staff reception and available parking terrific. An easy walk down into town, and you are removed from traffic noise. Breakfast charge was additional, but offered wide choices. Public areas filled with unique and eclectic Oriental art and keepsakes...a bit much, but interesting.
Review 19:Absolutely nothing.
Review 20:Absolutely great, close to the water front and restaurants. Staff exceptional. Clean and beautiful property. Would recommend it to everyone!
Review 21:The bed! For back sufferers like myself, it was not good!
Review 22:Ideal position so close to the hustle and bustle of the town and yet just far enough away to retain some tranquility. The staff are excellent and always so very very helpful.
Review 23:Absolutely nothing, although I can't rate the breakfast as it was a very busy weekend when we stayed and we chose to walk to the town rather than wait.
Review 24:Great location, 3 minute walk to the harbour, but on site car parking. Staff were wonderful and the room, whilst at the top of the hotel was fabulous. Comfortable bed, English TV channels and a fantastic shower.
Review 25:We did not have anything negative
Review 26:The hotel was full of history back to the 17th century, amazing, our accommadation was ideal for a one might stay, we enjoyed the outdoor pool
Review 27:We were not given the room class that we booked. We were in an attic room that we could not stand except for an area at foot of bed. The the furniture was filthy. Slant of roof ment we couldn't sit in the chairs. Owner wouldn't even discuss the fact that we weren't give room booked. We called you to get help. Have not had a response from you.
Review 28:Wifi Parking on premises
Review 29:We were in a top room , bed etc was very comfortable but the room was quite small ,however we enjoyed our stay.
Review 30:Friendly staff and good asking in a central location
Review 31:Odd choice of fabric for drapes and bedspreads considering the antique furniture.
Review 32:EVERYTHING--exquisite property, huge room ( 2 double beds), beautifil bathroom, secure parking
Review 33:Our room was in a separate building, and the wi-fi did not function consistently well, so we had to go to the main building to check our email. We considered this a small price to pay for the considerable overall charm, convenient location, coziness of the room, and friendly staff.
Review 34:The main building was fascinating. It was a bit like stepping through a time warp into an haut-bourgeois residence from the late nineteenth century.
Review 35:poor standard for superior room, chipped and flaking paint on walls, broken venitian blinds could not close wall vent as cord was inoperative ,bedroom smelt musty, the parking was good ,this hotel needs to spend money on redecoration of rooms to the standard of the public areas.
Review 36:the welcome was great
Review 37:Nothing
Review 38:This hotel was old but beautifully presented-especially in dining and lounge area and the gardens. Inner city but with excellent parking and spacious gardens. Enjoyed our stay here in Honfluer
Review 39:Possibly a little unclear about when you were allowed into the lounge area. Leaving!
Review 40:The originality of the hotel. It felt more like staying in an annexe of Brighton Pavilion with antiques everywhere . The outdoor heated swimming pool was spotless and the charming gardens made it so relaxing.
Review 41:We warned the management we would arrive after 10.0 because we had to find the place, driving from Caen and we were given a room outside on a wing of the main building which was rather an attic. We had hoped to be in the main house.
Review 42:The hotel was stylish with amazing originally furnished fin de siecle salons. The conservatory for breakfast was especially delightful. The morning staff were very friendly. It is within walking distance of the harbour and has great charm.
Review 43:Only minor issue for us was no stand-up shower in the bathroom - just a hand held shower in bath.
Review 44:Although our ground floor room in one of the newer buildings was pretty basic and small (and essentially within the car park!), it was very clean and fine for our needs as a base for four days in Honfleur. Gardens and pool looked very nice. Free secure parking was a bonus - we are frequent visitors to Honfleur and finding convenient parking can be tricky.
Review 45:There is a difference between old world and old and tired. The two rooms we looked at could both done with a renovation. The hair dryer was an old fashioned box with plastic hose, still least 20 years old
Review 46:Location was great and off street free parking a bonus
Review 47:Breakfast was just ok the juice machine was temperamental
Review 48:Value for money, local knowledge staff willingness & how close to the centre & the harbour
Review 49:The hotel had a great feel, it was really well located to walk into the harbour area. The free parking worked really well ideal on a stop over for the ferry.
Review 50:The only thing we did not like was having to leave to go home!
Review 51:Our second visit to this lovely hotel located in the centre of beautiful Honfleur with added bonus of parking. An way walk to the harbour. Lots of character, always a friendly welcome and even a swimming pool.... All we needed was the weather! Would definitely recommend
Review 52:None of the following really detracted from a really good break - but should be mentioned. 1. Huge bath but difficult to get in and out of.Bathroom floor very slippy when wet. 2. The weather was beautiful but we felt the room cold on arrival and heat was not available.
Review 53:French faded elegance, quiet gardens in the middle of a city. Good quality breakfast in lovely conservatory. Friendly service from manager to chambermaid
Review 54:Cramped room, poor maintenance . walking to bathroom in the night was a little of an obstacle course leaning down to avoid the beams over the bed.
Review 55:Pleasant town
Review 56:Warm comfortable feeling. Our "chateau " (room) was in a separate building with very convenient parking. Very good service. Short walk to the harbor area. We enjoyed staying here.
Review 57:A queue for breakfast, so we walked into town.
Review 58:The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the town centre. The staff were superbly efficient and welcoming. Parking was well organised.
Review 59:My husband has a problem walking and stairs were hard to climb with no lift
Review 60:Old historic hotel with free parking and courteous staff. Gardens are so beautiful
Review 61:The only thing I was not happy about was that the WiFi was not reliable. Couldn't connect on the third floor had to go down to the lobby.
Review 62:The hotel was lovely. The red toile room on the 3rd floor is very charming. Nice spacious bedroom and large bathroom.
Review 63:Our room on the first floor of the stable conversion had much character and a great bathroom with separate loo. The private secure parking is a bonus as parking in Honfleur is limited. Park up and walk down to the beautiful old harbour, lined by great value restaurants, in under 5 minutes.
Review 64:Hotel was understaffed and front desk crew was not helpful with simple requests. One example: We called a day ahead to see if they could arrange transportation to the hotel from the nearest train station in Deauville. The front desk person said he was leaving for the evening, and we should just catch a cab the next morning. When we arrived at the station, it took us almost an hour to find a cab that would agree to take us to Honfleur. Most cabs did not want to leave the area. He should have told us it was hard to get transportation. Another example: I asked the front desk if there was a car rental agency in town. An easy request. The response from the day clerk was that there wasn't any. After a little prodding, the clerk looked up an agency and gave me the address. No offer to get me a car, or transportation to the car rental which was several miles away. We were on our own. We are experienced travelers and expect a little service from hotels where we are staying. Our suite? #34 was very musty smelling. Decore was a tired thrift shop style. No closets but two tiny armoires. Modern bath had a shower that leaked like a sieve no matter how we closed the shower door. The unit came with a kitchen that had no cooking utensils or any supplies other than an instant coffee maker. I ended up going to the store to buy a pan and spatula. When brought to their attention, they three in a few old beat up utensils. Overall a poorly run hotel.
Review 65:Excellent location with lovely grounds.
Review 66:Nothing bad about the stay but would have liked tea/coffee facilities in room.
Review 67:quiet location yet only a couple of minutes walk to harbour, we heard virtually no street noise. Buildings full of character, and peaceful, secluded garden.
Review 68:N/a
Review 69:This is charming gem. Staff was very nice. Big room and big bathroom. The best of what a French B and B should be. The breakfast was stellar. Parking is right there and free. You can walk into the center in 5 min.
Review 70:Loved the friendly service. Nam was wonderful. Will remember him always a real gem!!! Karen Brown recommend you in her book and she never misses. Our friends Pat and Jack Bergans are coming in a few weeks. I know they will be treated just as special as we felt. Thank you for our lovely stay
Review 71:The breakfast is over-priced at 15 euros. Although the standard of cleanliness was very good overall, the carpet in the downstairs part of suite 34 was in need of cleaning to remove the stains which have accrued over time.
Review 72:The location is very good. It has easy pedestrian access into the port area and the restaurants. Getting there in a car, parking on site and then getting to Deauville airport the following morning was all very straightforward. The welcome was very good.
Review 73:The hotel is quirky and delightful. Staff were very accommodating. The courtyard room was nicely furnished but had no window, only doors, so had to use the air con top breathe. just loved the main building, its furniture and decor great fun. Reasonable car park, useful in Honfleur.
Review 74:Nothing.
Review 75:The friendly faces. Helping point out good restaurants. Showing us around the hotel; swimming pool, garden and breakfast room. Big bathroom off a bedroom with two double beds... Gave the choice to have a ground floor room as my mother was tired after the days walking. Good big car park just off the main road. Honestly, loved it.
Review 76:Superior rooms outside the main building; cleaner's noisy children in the swimming pool; towels smelling of smoke
Review 77:Location, swimming pool, car parking, privacy
Review 78:Traditional French character with individually styled rooms and lot's of charm. Good swimming pool and sun loungers to relax after sightseeing- the old port is 5 mins walk away. Free parking on front courtyard and v helpful reception for booking restaurants etc.
Review 79:The walls were thin & we could hear the couple in the room below us having sex.
Review 80:This hotel was very nice & had huge rooms / bathrooms. There were a lot of amenities & the staff was very friendly & helpful. The on sight parking was nice & it was close to everything.
Review 81:Although the shower worked, it could have done with being fixed properly so that the water fell onto you , not at an angle!
Review 82:ALL staff friendly and helpful Characterful hotel with very interesting features Homely atmosphere Location with parking Pool
Review 83:The room was musty and felt damp. Really rather old fashioned and dark. Felt a bit miserable. It might have been just our room, I'm guessing others were better.
Review 84:The location was great and the reception areas were exotic - the gardens were lovely too.
Review 85:Breakfast expensive
Review 86:Fantastic room, comfortable bed with masses of space. Easy walking distance to the centre with a vast selection of places to eat. Staff very friendly and helpful
Review 87:In summer, a pedestal fan could be offered for attic rooms.
Review 88:It was a lovely experience to stay there: staff were thoughtful and attentive and the common rooms were wonderful to sit in with all the antiques from the original manor house. Breakfast was fantastic and pool and grounds made it a holiday on its own! A fabulous place to stay and explore beautiful Honfleur.
Review 89:very friendly and helpful staff. exceptional rooms in older part of hotel. Breakfast very good especially the croissants.Once again gave us a very convenient base to walk into the lovely Honfleur
Review 90:The hotel is much larger than appears from the photo, extending over a number of nearby buildings. Breakfast is available in the room or a buffet in the conservatory. It may not be a problem if it is nice enough to sit out in the lovely garden but there is only limited space inside so on busier mornings people were having to wait for a table.
Review 91:Excellent location in a quiet street but only minutes from the centre of Honfleur. We had a superior twin so lots of room and two comfy double beds. We were able to park the car right by the door. Friendly and charming staff. Best wifi of our 5 week trip to France.
Review 92:The staff were excellent. The hotel is a beautiful building and the gardens are amazing. Location is just a short walk from the harbour, which is also beautiful. Breakfast was gorgeous, with a fresh orange squeezer for juice and freshly baked warm croissants. excellent!
Review 93:The breakfast was really bad. 15 euros per person and you did not get much for your money. Would definitely expect better in France. Luckily there's lots of good cafes around so didn't matter too much. Some of the rooms are lovely but some are quite chintzy and outdated and could do with bringing up to standard with the rest of the hotel
Review 94:The staff were really friendly and helpful. Great English. It's a unique looking hotel and the pool is an added bonus. Nice garden around the back and very relaxed atmosphere. The pool is an added bonus and ample parking. Great location too.
Review 95:No Wi-fi; nothing else really
Review 96:Quirky place with historical furnishings; excellent staff; rooms were below the rating, but I can see how it got up there; breakfast excellent. There was a difficulty over tariffs which was handled magnificently by the owner - this was a huge plus
Review 97:No tea or coffee making facilities in the room
Review 98:Great location with just a short walk to the town centre. Really friendly and helpful staff who were very accommodating for our baby. Would love to visit again!
Review 99:Fantastic location in the heart of Honfleur, parking on site, beautiful old French house furnished with antiques. Great garden and swimming pool. We will be back !
Review 100:Nothing it was perfect.
Review 101:The friendliest welcome I have ever had at a hotel in France. Rooms were specifically allocated to meet the needs of a disabled member of our party. Stunning gardens and swimming pool looks fantastic.
Review 102:Breakfast way overpriced for what it was. The rooms weren't exactly bargain prices so breakfast should be part of the price.
Review 103:5 minutes walk to centre. Secure parking. Interesting décor.
Review 104:just to say something : pillows were a bit to hard…but that's really to say something...
Review 105:most probably the best welcome we received in a hotel ever (and we are well traveled). The owner was really showing a sincere smile, he was happy to have us there and wanted to be sure we were fully happy.
Review 106:It was a pleasure from beginning to end. The staff were a delight and nothing was too much trouble. The room was light and airy overlooking the lovely gardens, and breakfast in the conservatory was wonderful. It was an easy meander into Honfleur.
Review 107:Breakfast seemed expensive so we didn't try it, went to a lovely place just up the road instead. Some bathroom fittings are very dated and starting to fail.
Review 108:Very convenient location with parking and pool. Large well equipped rooms with classic furnishings. Easy walk into Honfleur and plenty of places to eat nearby.
Review 109:None
Review 110:Where do I start ? car parking is first class.. an amazing Hotel full of old French charm, antiques and character.. I arrived late due to le sat nav they rang to check I was ok, met me at the gates with an umbrella as it was raining, everyone there was so pleasant and helpful... keep it our secret... must go back ;-)
Review 111:This is the second time we have stayed at the Ecrin and we'd go back tomorrow! Its so comfortable in a good location with car parking and a swimming pool.
Review 112:The breakfast is ludicrously overpriced and should be in the basic price. It wasn't that good either so felt bit annoyed at that. The cheaper rooms are smaller and in roof space but they are fine. Good value overall though .
Review 113:Lovely setting and superb luxurious hotel. Swimming pool great and an air of real class. Very little to dislike about this place and easy walk to the harbour bars and restaurants. Honfleur superb place to visit.
Review 114:Apart from the weather being a bit cool so that we could not use the pool to advantage, we enjoyed everything!
Review 115:Welcoming staff, beautiful interior with antiques and art. Good service at breakfast and afternoon tea,
Review 116:Rooms are a bit too small
Review 117:Very clean Offers excellent breakfast buffet in a beautiful patio room Very good service Beautiful historic building with original furniture and art Very convenient location
Review 118:Turning into the courtyard from the road is very tight. Fortunately, one of the staff greeted us and parked the car for us.
Review 119:We were delighted to discover that our room was one of two in a standalone cottage with a rose garden at the front window. It was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The grounds are very inviting. The public areas main hotel building are furnished with beautiful antiques. We were very sorry that we only spent one night there.f
Review 120:the only downside was the room was a little noisy on the Saturday night - the walls are quite thin. Didn't have any problem on the Sunday night though.
Review 121:the location is brilliant, room was beautiful and the staff very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely stay here agin.
Review 122:their breakfast room is very tiny for the number of guest and sort of staff. But the only staff was very efficient.
Review 123:the site was furnished with beautiful antiques
Review 124:Staff were very efficient and friendly. Room was lovely and well equipped, comfortable beds. Private parking was a real plus. Good facilities. Would definitely stay here again, just a few minutes walk to Vieux Bassin, although uphill, we found it very easy to walk.
Review 125:This hotel was delightful Set in spacious and beautiful gardens, it was peaceful even though only short walk to the busier old port area of Honfleur. Also given the narrow streets Iit was great to have a off street secure and spacious parking area.
Review 126:No bad aspects - ladies complained of no full length mirror in bedroom
Review 127:Character of building, furnishings and fittings Style Location - quiet back street but just a few minutes walk to harbour. Good secure parking
Review 128:The hotel is an older building that is very quaint. Antique furnishings in the public rooms. The hotel consists of a number of buildings on a large piece of property. Includes a swimming pool, pool table, internet. The service is excellent and a lovely breakfast is served. It is only a five minute walk to the harbor.
Review 129:Nothing comes to mind
Review 130:Proximity to center of town On site (free) parking English speaking Attentive and courteous staff Excellent breakfast with fresh ingredients in serene setting
Review 131:The only criticism was the lack of hot water one morning
Review 132:Warm welcome from the staff. Decor was amazing. We loved the conservatory and enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours in the garden
Review 133:Better than waking to singing birds rather than an alarm clock was the wonderful breakfast in the solarium. With glass on three sides, views of the beautiful and private backyard garden, and lots of lovely plants, it was absolutely heavenly to have breakfast there each morning.
The Fine Print
