Reviews for Bannatyne Hotel Durham
Review 1:Facilities in hotel itself very limited - need to trek to health club. Wireless internet VERY slow - being timed out on most simple access
Review 2:Ease of booking - ease of check in and check out
Review 3:The location is great, £4-5 to get into Durham center via taxi. I had to check in very early due to attending my graduation and the staff catered to my need, they where excellent. This is the 3rd time I stayed in this hotel and if I am every back in Durham again I will be staying here again.
Review 4:Wi-Fi is the worst I have ever tried to use, my phone worked better on 4G so used that to do work. You have to go to the spar complex for food, only vending in the hotel
Review 5:Great Staff all happy to help
Review 6:Great value for money on new years eve, close enough to the centre. The gym and spa facilities were great and up to date. The staff are an absolute credit to bannatynes both ladies during the day and night were so welcoming and approachable despite working the festive period!
Review 7:Bed wasn't connected together so split throughout the night, had to be zipped into a double. Had to walk to the Heath centre for the cafe.
Review 8:value you for money based on the price!
Review 9:When we booked the hotel online I specified for a double bed. Yet on arrival we discovered it was two single beds. Also, there was toilet paper still in the toliot and the bin had not been emptied. Furthermore, we discovered clumps of hair balls in the shower and on the bathroom floor. We were very dissapointed about our experience because of the high expectations we went with.
Review 10:Wifi speed is shockingly slow-not a chance of streaming, updating Facebook is hard enough. Important mail got delivered to leisure centre, they couldn't be bothered to drop it off! Housekeeping poor.
Review 11:Comfy bed. Access to leisure centre.
Review 12:Dirty hotel and in need of total refurbishment. Bed had springs sticking out and after two nights I felt ill from lack of sleep. No one should stay at this hotel. If it was a prison it would have to close down.
Review 13:Leaving.
Review 14:No bar and VERY strict on arrival time, couldn't check in until 3pm on the dot and got laughed at when I asked if we could check in a little earlier which I found quite rude.
Review 15:Good location for going into durham, walking distance or quick taxi. Spa is brilliant.
Review 16:Two mattresses put together for large double meant you could only really sleep on one of them but it was very comfortable all the sme
Review 17:facilities were very good
Review 18:When booking the hotel there was an issue with Payment took to early - girl who answered phone was quite patronising and kept calling me honey - was resolved after speaking to booking.com
Review 19:Very pleasant good value for money - will on reception was more than happy to help
Review 20:Maybe a little lick if paint and new carpets could transform the hotel to abit more modern and cleaner looking.
Review 21:Nice comfortable bed and quiet in our room.
Review 22:Problems with tv. Sorted it myself but missed out on a programme I wanted to watch. Room noisy so close to main road.
Review 23:Lovely staff and a comfortable, warm room.
Review 24:Vanilla, simple business hotel, not fancy but does all the basics well. Good big room, everything in order. Free use of the Health Center. Note that there is no restaurant in the hotel but there is a café in the heath center about 50 yds away. Excellent value for money.
Review 25:bathroom not very clean - toilet in particular. Also smelly in bathroom and shower door not working properly.. The most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in - too soft and lumpy! i think the only reason this hotel gets good reviews is due to the health club which I didn't use. Will definitely book Premier Inn next time!
Review 26:Nothing!
Review 27:Beds were uncomfortable. Restaurant looked like a cafe so we did not use it.
Review 28:Location was good. Rooms good size and clean. Lovely shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 29:The bed was soft and lumpy resulting in a terrible nights sleep. Every time a toilet was flushed it was really loud and annoying when you're woken at 2am by loud plumbing.
Review 30:Friendly staff and really clean.
Review 31:The location was good but most of all we were made to feel welcome when we arrived and that lasted throughout our short but enjoyable stay we will be back .
Review 32:The hotel itself seemed old and in need of refreshment. The material on the sofa was torn and stained. The pillows were a dull colour not the vibrant colour you could tell they once were and also stained. The overall feel just had an aged, dirty feel to it.
Review 33:The health spa
Review 34:Breakfast - coffee out of a machine is never good. My husband had cooked and it was tasteless I had a porridge pot and will not have one of those again.
Review 35:We thought the hotel and facilities were good and would visit again. Only thing that let hotel down was breakfast awful.
Review 36:Our room furnishings needed a bit of TLC.Having travelled by train it meant we had to get into and out of Durham City by bus which did run regularly and also walked which took about 30 minutes.
Review 37:The facilities of the pool. The cafe served good breakfasts. The staff were helpful.
Review 38:couple of stains on carpet. a bit noisy from traffic. don't know if someone was smoking in bathroom but a bit of a smoke smell.
Review 39:Staff very friendly. gym classes joined in very welcoming
Review 40:My son had a toblerone tart which was frozen when it arrived. There was no mention of it being frozen (solid) on the menu. We thought it was a little odd for a tart to be frozen as a tart isn't normally frozen ! We were told that was how they were supplied ! My son had an extremely upset stomach that evening !
Review 41:It was conveniently located for our visit to Silksworth Tennis Centre. The staff were very friendly especially in the spa.
Review 42:The bed was uncomfortable with a ridge down the middle. Like two single beds joined together and the sheets were ill fitting. The shower wasn't very powerful either.
Review 43:Location was fabulous and staff were very friendly.
Review 44:It was 40mins out of the centre which was a little too far even though I do enjoy a walk in to work!
Review 45:Nice staff, good bathroom and size of rooms. The bar/cafe in the health spa was really nice and friendly
Review 46:We really liked the sofa in the room also the high backed chair, usually when we go to hotels there is no sofa and one low backed uncomfortable chair!
Review 47:The bed was too soft. I have had spinal surgery and need a firm bed, which do seem to be standard in most hotels these days. Sadly this was not the case here so I wouldn't stay here again.
Review 48:Good location, clean, lovely bathroom
Review 49:Clean, comfortable, quiet. Staff extremely helpful, reasonably priced. Breakfast in Healthclub opposite was very good. Would have been even better if included in the price of the room!
Review 50:You need to remove the stand in smelly things from the window on the stairs between the changing room and the pool and use a odour eliminater instead or Milton as the smell is off putting this will make our score up to 10/10 :)
Review 51:There was nothing we didn't like, and we will be coming back soon I must add that you have brilliant helpful well mannered staff in both buildings using the facilities topped our stay
Review 52:Only bad thing a hotel with no restaurant and breakfast facilties. Sent to local sports building and had very poor breafast. No real choice. It must have food for travellers.
Review 53:Good value. Good no nonsense WI FI.
Review 54:There wasn't anything bad about this hotel
Review 55:The staff were lovely and helped us with any queries we had... Being able to have use of all the facilities was a major plus.. we will be going back...
Review 56:The don't serve a full English breakfast but that is to be expected from a spa cafe.
Review 57:The receptionist was very friendly. The use of the spa facilities & the facilities were excellent.
Review 58:We had hope for a Spa treatment, but was not available.
Review 59:Hotel was excellent and the gym and pool was good. The location was good for the public transport in to Durham city.
Review 60:I had Salmon and a baked potato, the salmon was inedible but the salad and baked potato were v good. I'd rather pay more for non microwaved quality but can understand your market.
Review 61:Very difficult to find and postcode does not get you three. But once there I recorded a warm welcome.
Review 62:Its not a negative, more of an improvement really. A small bar area in reception would be a fantastic addition so if you didn't want to go into town you could still relax and have a drink.
Review 63:Ideal location for Durham city centre, good quality hotel for the price and very clean.
Review 64:Maid came bursting into the room first thing even tho do not disturb sign was up, which means you feel rather uncomfortable hotel is from the centre which means taxis, £10 there and back which can add up
Review 65:Tidy rooms a little bit dated but okay for a night away, the health club is brill and free which makes it better
Review 66:Rooms lack air conditioning and was uncomfortably warm. This could be a plus if you like overly warm rooms. Hotel is on a trading estate so ok for business stops but not ideal if you're looking for a hotel with a view.
Review 67:Located just off the A1, its easy to find and a short drive into Durham. Rooms are clean and spacious. Large gym next to the hotel.
Review 68:It is in need of a surface refresh. The duvets and pillows are tired so what could be a good bed isn't. There's also bits of basic maintainance that need looked at. All indicative of a lack of investment. The gym next door is exactly the same.
Review 69:Good location. Also good idea for a hotel. Very low cost model
Review 70:The walls and doors are paper thin so noise was an issue, the light fitting above the bed rattled when anybody upstairs moved, not just the room above, anywhere upstairs!
Review 71:Great Staff, very helpful and friendly both in the hotel and the leisure centre!
Review 72:The only comment I have is that the corridors and rooms were too hot - turn the heating down and save some money!!
Review 73:Clean and simple, very helpful staff, easy access from main routes and free health club access
Review 74:We were four separate families all be it related.. And although I booked the rooms we wanted th pay individually on the morning of departure. We were told the whole amount had been taken from my bank account prior to arrival, I wasn't very pleased about that at all.
Review 75:The bar was a great area for our family to relax before attending my granddaughters wedding. The children's play are was fantastic to keep the wee ones occupied
Review 76:Not a bad experience as such, but the Wifi connection for the room I stayed in was not great.
Review 77:Use of leisure centre. All staff were friendly, courteous and professional.
Review 78:The toilets were difficult to flush.
Review 79:The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The food at the health club was competitively priced and tasty.
Review 80:A bit grubby and tatty. Needed a fresh coat of paint to cover all the stains up the walls and some air freshner (room smelt of stale smoke and a bit musty). Staff on reception on departure to busy chatting on phone to acknowledge customers
Review 81:Great shower, comfy bed, free wifi, use of gym facilities, noce and quiet.
Review 82:We were attending a wedding and the hotel staff were so helpful, friendly and interested - one of them took group picture for us before we left and they were keen to hear how the day had gone when we returned.
Review 83:Room was far too hot ( no heating, just so well insulated I suppose) It was necessary to keep fan on and open window, where the roar of the A1 40m away drowned out the sound of the fan! Room tired and tatty
Review 84:The leisure facilities and the efficiency of staff to sort out problems
Review 85:leaving
Review 86:Excellent value for money. The hotel was clean and friendly and with free entrance to the health center was an added bonus. The food served up in the health center restaurant was first class and nothing was to much trouble for the staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 87:No real negatives (but only snack refreshments available unless you go to fitness centre next door)
Review 88:Location, convenient for A1M. Car parking excellent, well lit and safe. Spacious, clean, well maintained modern room, and lounge area. Welcoming staff. Breakfast, and other facilities in adjacent Fitness Centre
Review 89:Rooms very hot no air conditioning, bed very uncomfortable as 2 single matts zipped together with a big ridge in the middle of matt so very uncomfortable. Room was on the main road side so noisy all through the night. No bar no food so had to go to nearby leisure centre and go through the hassle of signing in - this should be an automated system from the hotel access card as the 2 properties are the same company.
Review 90:Clean
Review 91:More of a selection for breakfast would have been good eg a choice of a full English would have been ideal.
Review 92:The room was immaculately clean, spa facilities great, did not have to bring my own shower gel/shampoo.
Review 93:No complaints at all
Review 94:Staff were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Very comfortable beds and good sized rooms with excellent facilities, huge walk in shower in our room which was great for my elderly Mum for whom I requested an "easy access room" and this was perfect. Easy access from the A1 but no road noise. Large car park. Breakfast at the sport centre next door was basic but very good and reasonably priced. We didn't use the swimming pool (no time) but it looked very inviting. We would stay here again
Review 95:The bed was a little soft for my preference.
Review 96:The room was like that of a more expensive hotel and included a sofa. The shower was roomy and one of the best I have used in a UK hotel.
Review 97:Not a bad experience but would have been goo to have been able to use the leisure services as we leave giving us long to enjoy if only staying one night.
Review 98:how it was located next a leisure centre
Review 99:We could not get to sleep for over an hour due to the noise from the floor above. The light fitting seemed to vibrate against the ceiling all the time someone was walking above.
Review 100:Only negative is room 4 was close to hotel entrance/exit and could hear guests during night, perhaps having a cigarette outside. Otherwise, very nice indeed and we enjoyed.
Review 101:Room could have been cleaner, toilet and mirror in bathroom not too clean also cups for tea not washed properly
Review 102:Staff extremely friendly and helpful, leisure facilities excellent and a great bonus after a days sightseeing. Great value for money hotel highly recommended.
Review 103:Friendly helpful staff, comfortable rooms with a desk, sofa and 32 inch TV. Free access to health club. Only downside is there are no breakfasts or evening meal options in the hotel, there is only the health club cafe.
Review 104:Comfortable and clean hotel, good facilities and food in the leisure centre. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good location to visit relatives in Durham.
Review 105:Location, as we were travelling North and it is a perfect stop over point just off the A1. Staff at the Hotel Reception and also at the Leisure Complex were first class in terms of friendliness and efficiency.
Review 106:Basic accommodation but clean and ideally located for local points of interest. Liked the use of the health club. The cafe bar staff were very helpful and the food was very reasonable and of good quality.
Review 107:Toilet would not flush effectively.
Review 108:With the exception of one young lady the staff were welcoming and helpful.the fitness centre was great.the pool extremely satisfying in warm weather.
Review 109:Bed was too soft High price Furnishings etc were showing signs of wear - eg small holes in sheets, tear in leather headboard
Review 110:Location Rapid check-in
Review 111:The room we occupied - number 30, was unbearably hot. We had both windows open the whole time. Getting dressed was difficult because we were wet with perspiration within minutes of showering. We could see steam rising from the room below which would indicate we were on top of a boiler room(? )
Review 112:The gym was well equipped and accessible.
Review 113:The breakfast bar had a fairly basic menu. It was ok but if we came again we would check out other places to eat. We would have liked to be able to order a paper.
Review 114:The room was good size with comfortable 6ft bed. It was clean with a good shower and all you need for a short stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 115:Susan on reception went out of her way to try and find a taxi on graduation day. All companies fully booked...so she tracked down other guests and arranged a taxi share. And all with a smile on her face at midnight!
Review 116:Stayed during Grad week - couldn't check in until 1pm - at first they said 3pm - people were changing in the toilets. No restaurant , no bar - you had to go out to the sports centre café. Arrived back that night looking for a drink in the lobby - no chance. Would have been better off in a tent !!!!!
Review 117:nothing
Review 118:Be warned the hairdryer is on a very short wire! Would not be my first choice in the future but I would happily book again. Durham people are so friendly and nice it makes up for the fact it is a bit shabby.
Review 119:Clean rooms and friendly staff - I would stay again. Very convenient bus 3 mins away straight into town if all the taxis are fully booked!
Review 120:Bad is too strong, but breakfast in Heath club is rather slow, although very friendly. Fine if you are not in a hurry.
Review 121:All staff very friendly. Use of Health club is main reason I stay here and that worked well.
Review 122:Bedlighting was no good for reading No toilet cleaning brush The drains did smell on arrival but staff sorted this out Tiny waste paper basket so rubbish piled up around it
Review 123:Room was fine Bed was comfortable Free wifi Gym and pool were great Staff responded to our requests
Review 124:Bathroom bin not emptied when we got to room . Despite asking not done . Missed again next morning . Finally asked again and was done . Lack of staff seemed to be a problem
Review 125:Leisure facilities excellent
Review 126:It was located in a bit of an industrial area with a very ordinary cafe with unappealing food and not many decent dining options nearby.
Review 127:Good efficient service, clean and tidy rooms, good rates
Review 128:Out of the city, yet easily accessible by bus. Also, I enjoyed the swimming pool and the adjacent restaurant. Staff all very pleasant and helpful. Nice room, with pleasant view of trees.
Review 129:It would have been better if you could have booked things to your room when using the café.
Review 130:Good value, leisure club was also very good. Not too far away from Durham centre.
Review 131:wasn't a bad experience, but I thought breakfast could have been included for the price.
Review 132:I liked the lounge area in the foyer; being able to open the windows, staff catering to my request for decaff drink in the room.
Review 133:The previous occupant of our room obviously had a bad case of smelly feet which was not pleasant and had we been staying for more than 1 night would have asked to be moved
Review 134:Location not too bad 2 miles from Durham
