Reviews for Highcliffe Hotel
Review 1:No shower. Room dirty, curtains falling down, water in sink did not soak away. Could not open windows. Towel rail in bathroom was boiling hot and was burnt getting out of bath and up from toilet - could have caused serious injury to child. Was given plastic shower head to attach to taps it did not fit bath and when put on sink sprayed everywhere. This was a 2* bed and breakfast and the cost for the room was extortionate should have been £30. Hairdryer fixed to wall by bed so could hardly see into the mirror. You could not watch the tv and close the curtains as the curtain rail was in front of the TV. I also thought the hotel overlooked the beach/sea and it was set back up the road and overlooked properties and you could see a bit of the beach if you managed to get your head round the corner. Cobwebs in reception and in areas of bedroom - 3 different types of wallpaper in room and some peeling. An old fashioned b@b not hotel even though it boasts bar and restaurant needs to be updated. No phone signal for 02 users.
Review 2:Comfortable bed
Review 3:Room was extremely in need of updating but the stains on the sheets really did spoil it for us. Did not feel good at all.
Review 4:Wasn't expecting too much after looking at reviews but was disappointed when we got there. Picture in advert has obviously been taken many years ago and building looked far worse.
Review 5:Can't say there was anything I didn't like .
Review 6:The owners were fantastic lovely people couldn't fault them, made us feel very welcome amd were always there to help.
Review 7:this hotel is looking tired and in need a lot of work cobwebs on the light shades carpet on the stairs and all windows need a good clean
Review 8:the staff were nice and a nice location lovely
Review 9:I was asked if I would be prepared to stay in the annex , I said I didn't mind not being in the hotel but was surprised .When I found out the room was behind a door in the car park , down a series of cobwebs and dusty steps strewn with disguarded items ...im not sure this was a hotel room at all it looked more like a place staff stay . The room was clean tired and very dated it was a prefabricated building ...the bed was comfortable ..but because of where it was I did not feel I could relax there ....I dropped my bags in the room ...I came back to sleep ....I left the room at quater to eight am ...making sure I took everything so I did not have to return . I wondered why I had been given such a place to stay ...was the hotel over booked or had someone else already refused to stay there . The manager had indeed given me a choice but had not shown the alternative .....I was tired....I accepted but regret the discision I slept in my clothes ...I didn't feel safe ....I was not able to feel comfortable enough to bath there ....all in all I was saddened by the experience because the manager was lovely and the food in the bar was excellent .the hotel looked like it was once a lovely place ... I would not recommend it to a friend ...I cannot belive I even agreed to stay there ....never again
Review 10:Friendly and welcoming ...Great food ...comfortable bed ...two stars
Review 11:My wife and I, plus two young daughters stayed there for Sunday night in a family room. The girls loved the bunk bed/sofa and we all liked the family feel of the hotel. Very polite and friendly staff who were always willing to help. Would recommend to anyone that wants a friendly traditional hotel near to the lovely beach.
Review 12:We found it to be very shabby and run down the bed was very old, thebathroom was missing part of a tap holder for toilet paper rusty as wasthe old wooden toilet seat.so much rubbish around, needs the Hotelinspector to visit, she would have a field day!!!.
Review 13:Just found the beds too hard or too soft but that's personal reference other than that the rooms were ok .
Review 14:Location was Great , a few minutes walk to the beach . Was a nice quiet area . Lovely view from the window . We had a few meals in the hotel which was very good . All in all a nice place to stay and value for money and the staff were friendly .
Review 15:Noisy plumbing, the building is tired but it was advertised as 2 star and had everything we expected.
Review 16:Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, welcomed us and our three small dogs. Excellent location.
Review 17:Nothing negative to report.
Review 18:Our room was spacious & comfy & we received a very warm welcome. Hotelier was lovely & helpful. Wld definitely go back.
Review 19:Old fashioned bathroom with shower head attachment, would expect more from a hotel. No proper high chair for our baby just a seat attached to the table that didn't have straps to prevent our toddler getting out so breakfast was spent trying to get him to sit down.
Review 20:Nice view Room was ok
Review 21:The whole hotel is dated and shabby the last time it had a refit must have been in the early 80's. there are no words to describe the bath room .I was disappointed.
Review 22:The owner was friendly, It was easy to park . There was a good sea view
Review 23:needs to be updated and refurbished - chap wasn't very helpful, didn't know anything about bus times etc just told us to look at info on the bus stop! Although reasonably clean it appeared dirty and security of your credit card details is very poor!
Review 24:location
Review 25:Hotel needs s refurb, however for £55 a night including a good breakfast I didn't expect anything else. I read reviews on the hotel before I stayed, quite frankly I think people expect to much for the money they pay
Review 26:The owner of the hotel was extremely helpfull, location was superb.
Review 27:The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in it was like sleeping on a plankl. We could not open our bedroom window due to old windows. Ideally the Hotel needs to be refurbished and bought up to date a little. Breakfast was ok but the sound of a microwave was heard every breakfast time and one of the guests had a mouldy yogurt It did not seem that fresh cereals fruits etc were given in the mornings they app appeared to have been stood in the same place and same position every morning.
Review 28:The owners were very polite and friendly and the Hotel was situated in an ideal location not too far from other Towns with attractions
Review 29:Some of the decor lets the place down a bit - a shame as it's got other great qualities. But I'd still go back here.
Review 30:Excellent location, staff and food, good value for money, comfortable bed, some nice new furniture in the room and a good big modern TV.
Review 31:The whole place needs a total refurb or just knocking down. These days there's no excuse for establishments like this to exist in such a poor state.
Review 32:My room was to small for a double bed. I felt this hotel would benefit a complete renovation.
Review 33:location was good, the hotelier and his wife were very friendly and helpful.
Review 34:traffic noise on road early morning probably only heard if staying in front rooms a bit tatty - needs a lot of tlc inside and out could be fabulous!
Review 35:location. quirky and characterfull. very comfy bed. spacious bedroom and bathroom. good choice at breakfast , friendly hospitable owner
Review 36:Very dated, in need of refurbishment and decorating. Bed uncomfortable, could feel springs. Odd layout overall, could do with re-designing.
Review 37:Flexibility of host, big room, good location and dinner was very good.
Review 38:there was nothing not to like, everything was lovely, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and me and my children are looking forward to going back there soon, wonderful holiday.
Review 39:They will provide an evening meal , but the choice is fairly limited.
Review 40:Pleasant small hotel within walking distance of the sea and surrounded by beautiful Welsh countryside. The owner is pleasant and helpful. I think it is good value for money, if it is the sort of quiet break that you want without any noise. We would return there.
Review 41:The breakfast was a bit cold for our liking. The hotel decor was old fashioned and some repairs needed. No light in the car park or road outside meant coming back in the early hours was dangerous as we couldn't see a thing.
Review 42:We stayed at Highcliffe last weekend as we were attending and performing at a wedding nearby. Very clean, comfortable rooms and plenty of space in the room and en-suite bathroom. Pleasant view over the bay and in a lovely location. The owners were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble; from a speedy check-in and check-out, to giving us the wi-fi code, to when we had a drink with them in the evening. Tea and coffee facilities and TV in the room. They didn't object when one of our party was warming up ready to sing at the wedding in the evening. A very pleasant stay overall, and good value for the price - if you want a 5* hotel, this isn't it, but if you're after a budget place to sleep for a few hours, this hotel does the job just fine!
Review 43:Shower was push on tap type No ice or lemon for drinks Could do with some serious renovation I.e. Window frames loose.
Review 44:Location was good near to lovely beach.
Review 45:The areas that we saw required professional re-decorating and a certain amount of de-cluttering.
Review 46:The location and quirky old charm of the building and owner. The breakfasts were good.
Review 47:Foul smell from toilet. Sprayed but did nothing to help. If I was bringing a partner I would have refused the room. Breakfast was not inclusive which I missed when booking. Therefore altogether too expensive.
Review 48:Location
Review 49:Needs update. Lots of cobwebs all over. Garden area scruffy. Bedroom composed of worn tired and broken furniture. Breakfast served only warm on cold plates.
Review 50:Convenient to walk to beach
Review 51:Like other visitors have reported, the hotel needs some TLC but this did not bother us as the furnishings were clean, we were comfortable and enjoyed our brief stay.
Review 52:very friendly owner, good breakfasts and even better evening meal. Clean furnishings and well located for the coast.
Review 53:There was a few cobwebs - on windows, in the corners, in the bathroom..and windows would do with some cleaning... Girl who served breakfast seemed to be unfriendly- not a single smile, maybe we got her on a bad day anyway..
Review 54:Stunning view through window, 5mins to the beach - location cant be better, just perfect!, very cosy and homely interior, comfy bed and good size room. Reception staff very kind and friendly!
Review 55:Shabby hotel in need of serious renovation, everything old and creaky, bath without shower, extremely expensive for what is on offer

Review 114:- Hotel could use some TLC.
Review 115:- Staff were friendly and helpful - Located 100 yeards from a beautiful beach - Good value for money

Review 120:Its fine, but everything a little tired
Review 121:Short walk to village, sea view, quiet, warm welcome, nice breakfast
Review 122:Provided for your requirements where possible, even if out of the ordinary.
Review 123:Too many knick knacks and old decor
Review 124:The stunning views
Review 125:Peaceful
Review 126:Poor decour throughout. Needs re-deccourating. No, sorry, this is an understatement: needs a major renovation. The window in my room was propped up by a wooden block; it was possible to see the electrical wiring through the weird see-through plastic ceiling (?) in the bathroom. Due to my work, I stay in a lot of hotels and this one stood out as one of the worst I've encountered. Although, the owner was freindly. Andy Hood. (PS, I can send you photos of the poor standard of the room if you like).
Review 127:The bathroom hadn't been swept before arrived and the previous guest's hair was over the floor. The corners of the rooms and the pipework looked as though they hadn't seen a duster in a long, long time. The whole hotel had a very cluttered feel.
Review 128:The welcome and the food was great. The only member of staff we met was the manager and he was very friendly
Review 129:The hotel needs a complete up date, very shabby and old fashion, but in its favour it was clean, no proper shower. Curtains falling from rail in bedroom not worth in my opinion more than £50.00 per night for double room
Review 130:The owners were very pleasant, breakfast very good clean, bed quite comfortable. sea view close to beach, lovely walks. Very quite beautiful area. Car park
