Reviews for The Penrallt Country House Hotel
Review 1:Outstanding service on a quiet night...the barman (Ben) was informative, courteous and very keen to ensure we had a warm and friendly evening meal late in the day after nearly 400 miles travelling? A strong asset to the team, no doubt...
Review 2:There was a disco on the Saturday night and the music was extremely loud which prevented us from sleeping until after midnight
Review 3:Staff really friendly, were given a warm welcome. Room was fantastic with great views of the sea. Food in restaurant was absolutely stunning.
Review 4:Paid extra for breakfast , but was a little dissapointed with variety and had to wait 40 mins for it to be served . But enjoyable when arrived
Review 5:The decor ,comfort, and helpfulness of the staff
Review 6:We had a top floor room and 2 flights of stairs.
Review 7:Very friendly, helpful staff, who went out of their way to help. in the restuarants Good menus and excellent breakfast
Review 8:Bathroom could have had somewhere to put toiletries but other than that the bedroom was superb. Very difficult to get WIFI in the Hotel, despite staff assistance with passwords
Review 9:Very pleasant & helpful staff. Lovely dinner and breakfast
Review 10:Wifi a bit hit and miss. Leisure centre closed Would run out of menu if you stayed longer than a couple of days.
Review 11:Clean spacious room with balcony and sea view, real ale in the bar, good food, very friendly staff.
Review 12:Water tank alongside bedroom was consistently sounding all night.
Review 13:Stayed there before and know its history. Lovely situation. Staff although new were friendly and efficient. Food was good. Eating in conservatory and the building itself
Review 14:Heating too high for my personal liking!
Review 15:Staff friendly and helpful, initial problem with the room door locking but sorted promptly. Lovely bar, super bar staff too. Some local beers needed to go with the Penderyn please!
Review 16:General housekeeping needs improving - chamber maids in particular.
Review 17:The staff were lovely, food was good and reasonably priced. Our twin room was spacious.
Review 18:Brilliantly friendly staff, fantastic menus for kids! Very happy with everything! Definitely recommend and will return next year! Keep up the great work.
Review 19:I did complain before we left but the twin beds continually squeaked as you turned over., consequently we did not get a very good nights sleep both nights.
Review 20:Beautiful surroundings, friendliness of the staff and good facilities. We found the staff most helpful.
Review 21:I like the location of this hotel and the Staff really make sure that you enjoy your stay and nothing is too much trouble for them. The Hotel is clean and comfortable. Can't wait to visit again. The food is really good too. I look forward to returning soon.
Review 22:Room No 2 had mildew on the walls behind the headboard and very visible up the walls, under the windows the room smelt damp, musty didn't unpack as we didn't want our clothes to smell, overall very disappointed. We did mention it to the staff but no one seemed to care, chrged us in full with no offer of reduction nor offered a move to another room. Swimming pool out of action along with other amenities. Spoke to a local and they were surprised it had reopened, with all the problems it had to resolve.
Review 23:Food was very good, service in the restaurant and bar excellent
Review 24:Food was of a good standard. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We arrived late and tired so the staff changed our garden room for a room within the main building so we didn't have to walk far.
Review 25:Despite the menu for the evening meals suggesting a more culinary delight the meals we were served were more in keeping with an average pub. In fact we returned one meal to the kitchen. The breakfast was much better and although we had cereals and toast the cooked meals served to other guests appeared very presentable.
Review 26:The room was spacious comfortably furnished. It is an old building which has many attractive features such as the large stained glass window above the stairs. The bar and dining areas were tastefully furnished to fit in with the period house. Views from the windows along the coast were an added bonus.
Review 27:Leisure facilities were closed. Gym was open but running machine was out of order. Outdoor pool was open but was cold and looked like it needed cleaning! This place could be lovely with a bit of TLC, it all looked a bit tired. Room was lovely but view out of bedroom window was overgrown bushes and there was some damp.
Review 28:Breakfast was lovely Staff were friendly Food had bad reviews online but we thought it was great! Room was nicely decorated.
Review 29:No indoor pool as advertised, i was told it was shut but I could use the outdoor one even though it was raining and 14 degrees - a bit insulting at the end of September! No spa either. Very misleading. Waited for breakfast for 15 mins.
Review 30:Clean and comfortable rooms, friendly staff on the whole.
Review 31:tv in room was extreemly small and the postioning along way from the bed and with 2 large chairs in frount made it seem even smaller . the shower wasnt a evan tempeture and some of the shower and contitioner bottles were ether empty or nearly empty . the main evening meal wasnt bad , but lacked the same attenion to detail and service that the breakfast had
Review 32:the room was very comfortable and pleasant decore .the main house had a wonderful atmoshere about it and the staff were very helpful and pleasant . the breakfast room was exteeemly pleasant to have a relaxing start to the day . the breakfast offered a wide range and choice
Review 33:This hotel is very tired. It needs completely refurbishing. £150 per night for a garden room is vastly over priced. They are set away from the main hotel up a steep hill and are very basic for the cost.
Review 34:The staff are very helpful and polite and the setting of the hotel is beautiful.
Review 35:Booked a garden room, assigned instead a small room on the 2nd floor (no elevator), no possibility to open the window, no correspondence with the high price (150£), not so clean as well. Too late offered the room really booked. No info about the swimming pool in photo. Good food but service for dinner and breakfast incredibly too slow, some people gave up. Personnel in itself nice but it's a pity to see a beautiful structure like that so poorely managed, no leadership at all.
Review 36:No hot water in first (garden)room and broken picture in bathroom andmouldy shower. Damp coming through main entrance doors, had to be movedinto the main hotel, an upgrade apparently. Bathroom tired/tatty insecond room including a shower head falling off the wall (which myhusband managed to fix). Noise from a washing machine running all night.Grubby arm rests on chairs in room and small tv. Food was fair. Theswimming pools and spa out of order, which I gathered after booking ithas been for some time. Everything that we had problems with or saw Ihad read about in other peoples reviews, my catch phrase for the weekendwas "I read that in a review!"
Review 37:Style of hotel, lovely helpful, friendly staff and nice grounds. Theviews from room would be great if some of the hedges were trimmed back.Lovely view of the bay from the restaurant. The bedroom had recentlybeen redecorated and new carpet. The whole place needs a little tlc andthen it would be fantastic.
Review 38:The Spa advertised was not open. Since looking on other reviews it seems this has been the case since March 2014... but it is still being advertised as having a Spa which I think is wrong. We were very much looking forward to having a swim after the 6 hour drive to get there. Upon arrival there were no details of our booking from booking.com? fortunately they had another room! The breakfast was cold (I had smoked haddock) and the poached eggs were 'very' hard boiled. This hotel has the potential to be great, if someone would throw a bit of money at it to get the Spa up and running and employ more staff. The young man on reception was run ragged and looked shattered by the end of the evening. Also, not sure the Over 60's appreciated the Dance Floor fillers on the local radio whilst having their evening meal?? It needs to up its class a little bit as its a beautiful looking Hotel.
Review 39:The Hotel is situated in a lovely quiet location. The room was very large. The staff were young, but helpful.
Review 40:swimming pool not open as shown on web page!! last day of stay staff at breakfast not very attentive.breakfast average for a hotel
Review 41:room very nice, location good for site seeing.hotel nice in location liked the wooded garden and you could see the sea from the grounds
Review 42:Room too warm. Suspect we had room above kitchen. Mattress springs had gone at the edge so that constantly felt I would roll out of bed. Food disappointing as had been led to believe it was excellent. Not asked how we had enjoyed stay on leaving.
Review 43:Location and staff
Review 44:The Leisure Centre was closed indefinitely and none of this information was available when booking. The complex boasts a sea view that is far away from the waterfront and could only bee seen from the bar area.
Review 45:Very peaceful location.
Review 46:We picked this hotel for the indoor pool but on arrival found it wasn't available and noisy bathroom fan which was annoying. The hotel is overpriced.
Review 47:Very spacious room, immaculately clean and staff were friendly, nice setting, on the whole it was good . . . .but not quite Carling !
Review 48:Lovely staff. Great food. Great location. Bed wasn't so great!
Review 49:Uncomfortable mattress and pillows room too hot even with balcony doors open so didn't have a good nights sleep
Review 50:Seaview
Review 51:the staff were brilliant. the food was great. the location was good. rooms were clean and a good size.
Review 52:The setting of the hotel was perfect. Weather couldn't have been better. Just what we needed.
Review 53:Beautiful hotel, stunning views, lovely staff, fantastic food. Look forward to staying again in the future.
Review 54:Lovely room and really pleasant welcoming staff
Review 55:The room photos on the website are very misleading, and did not represent the rooms offered. It was very misleading and dishonest.
Review 56:Lovely historical building with beautiful sea view and garden.
Review 57:Nothing

Review 60:Beautiful location, very helpful and friendly staff, lovely room and views.
Review 61:Lovely hotel & surrounding area
Review 62:Not enough staff, noisy and smelly from kitchen extractor fans, under cooked food. Looks very tired and in need of a major refurb !
Review 63:The meals were quite small
Review 64:The suite was lovely Amazing view of the seaside
Review 65:Staff were extremely friendly, location was beautiful overlooking the sea from the bar lounge area.

Review 70:Great area
Review 71:The dinner was not particularly good.
Review 72:Excellent bacon at breakfast!
Review 73:nothing
Review 74:Nice staff nice hotel
Review 75:photos and description of the hotel is very outdated and there for does not portray the current state of the hotel.
Review 76:Very tired decor, needs a major refurb to bring it up to date.
Review 77:Comfy Bed, nice size room, pleasant staff. Reasonable value for money.
Review 78:Could have done with the heating on
Review 79:The staff very good and helpful. Food excellent, rooms very clean and comfy .
Review 80:beautiful location , great food , friendly staff
Review 81:Leisure complex was closed for refurbishment.
Review 82:lovely peaceful location.
Review 83:Lovely location. Good breakfast
Review 84:There is nothing we disliked about our stay.
Review 85:It has a lovely friendly atmosphere, which brings out the best in everybody.
Review 86:waiting 35 minutes to get served a glass of wine and staff that were oblivious to customer service
Review 87:location central to cerdigion or pembrokeshire
Review 88:Leisure facility was not available
Review 89:Garden Rooms are nice and quiet, good wifi and good size.
Review 90:Options on the menu were not available, poor drink choices
Review 91:Room size, great breakfast, staff remembered that I had not been able to get my menu choice in morning and apologised again
Review 92:We were on a weekend break with my Mother, who is 89 yrs, the staff were cheerful and very helpful. Both accommodation was very comfortable with good disability facilities for my Mother. Food was very good too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much.
Review 93:Booked a garden room as it sounded lovely on the website. When we arrived we were put in a room in the hotel itself. When queried this was told that this was an upgrade as the garden rooms were not as nice as the hotel rooms. The hotel room was basic with a stained ceiling directly above the kitchen which was noisy. We feel we were misled by the booking site. If the garden rooms are not up to an acceptable standard then they should not be advertised.
Review 94:Not that much to like.
Review 95:We stayed at the hotel 7 years ago and on our return were not disappointed. Super welcoming and friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. Extremely good value for money.
Review 96:Pretty location and easy access to Aberporth, Cardigan and the picturesque Ceredigion area. Good amenities at hotel with swimming pool, gym and tennis court. Lots of parking
Review 97:Hotel was good, staff helpful and pleasant. Room was comfy and clean. Breakfasts were great and the evening meal we had was amazing, would highly recommend eating there.
Review 98:Room and hotel looked dated and good do with updating to modern standards. Parts of grounds used as "garden rooms" which looked as if they hadn't been used for some time.
Review 99:Good food, friendly staff, nothing to much trouble for them. Location couldn't have been better. Grounds great location for walks.
Review 100:Our room was a bit 'tired' but it was very spacious, we slept well and overall enjoyed our stay very much. We would definitely go back.
Review 101:The food in The Bay restaurant was delicious, and the staff most helpful.
Review 102:View from bedroom overlooking car park. Bed only 4' 6'' could have been bigger. Quality of cooked breakfast varied.
Review 103:Friendly staff, spacious room well decorated and lovely large bathroom.
Review 104:Limited choice menu in main restaurant eg only 5 choices and menu changes only once a month. Shabby exterior - looked unloved Garden rooms remote from hotel; you need an umbrella when it rains. Tatty exterior but room was large and well furnished.
Review 105:Excellent Staff Good Bathroom
Review 106:Firstly check in states 3pm. Arrived 2.50pm to be told room not readyfor an hour!! Come back later. Checked out the bar but on looking at theprices £4.80 for a pint of run of the mill lager decided against theidea!! ( same brand lager available at local pub for £3.10) Once checkedin an hour and a half later in room 7. Quite pleasant room if a littledated but the garden view room we paid for was of the car park anddirectly above kitchen so noisy and a little smelly. Made our way to thespa facilities to find jacuzzi out of order, very dated broom closetchanging facilities and a healthy dose of green algae/mould evidentaround the pools very murky/dirty looking water. It also appearspool is open to anyone in the local vicinity for a small fee not justguests. Breakfast was a total joke from the very bizarre random way oforder taking to the very very very long wait for anything and when thebreakfast does arrive it's touch and go if your dog would dare eatit!!! We were appalled and could take no more so the booked 2 night stayturned into just the 1 night and we promptly checked out with not somuch of an apology when all the above issues were raised with receptionstaff just an abrupt well you'll have to pay for 1 nights tariff!!!!Total disregard for paying guests. Avoid like the plague!!!!
Review 107:No gluten free bread after our first day, despite my declaring my dietary needs when booking. The gym equipment was also not working. The young student types serving breakfast on our second morning were disorganised and a bit chaotic.
Review 108:Most of the staff were great, especially the female Latvian staff member who was especially helpful, friendly and hard working. Great room too.
Review 109:Slippery tiles in the entrance. No hand rail on ramps We asked for a ground floor twin room as I am disabled. We got onr but the approach was via 4 uneven slippery stone steps with no hand rail, so I had to walk what was to me a long way via the paths
Review 110:Comfortable clean rooms and very comfortable beds Excellent helpful staff
Review 111:Service was prompt but unfriendly at breakfast time. Items were not available on the full breakfast which was disappointing for a Sunday! Pool was very small, and jacucci was not working. Hotel was not within walking distance of Aberporth.
Review 112:Room was clean and very comfortable. Pub / Dining Area / Lounge area was very good. Sandwiches served at lunchtime were exceptional quality.
Review 113:The Penrallt Hotel sits on a hillside with it's own secluded grounds over looking Aberporth . It has a large car park, 2 restaurants and a bar. Also a very large comfortable lounge area, which we liked to sit in after dinner with a drink or two... From what we could gather lots of locals use the restaurant , a few celebrations going on the weekend we were there. The Staff from the start were friendly and very helpful. Offering good advice on the local area. We were given a large airy room with amazing views over the bay (about a mile or so away) Simply stunning. To wake up to the view of the bay and it's surrounding countryside was lovely. If anything en suite on small side but comfortable bed and seating area in room more than made up for that. There was a very relaxed atmosphere in bar and after a busy day sightseeing it was very welcoming and the food in The Terrace restaurant beautifully cooked. The meat was locally source, try the ribs and steak they are amazing!! Breakfast had a very good choice, try the Welsh cakes n laver bread very yummy!! All in all The Penrallt was a very good find as a last minute booking and would gladly stay there again.
Review 114:Swimming pool attendant didn't want me to use pool so he could go home early. Soft drinks expensive small coke cost more than 1/2 a lager.
Review 115:Clean, spacious, friendly, very good breakfast, peaceful location.
Review 116:Are room was above the kitchen resulting in a very hot come the evenings, also the food in the morning was very poor the eggs cooked in the same water as the sammon resulted in the brackfast tasting of fish, and the black pudding was embarrassing to say the least over cooked and hard to snap with your hands.
Review 117:The view and the room was not bad
Review 118:Room rates a bit on the high side, menus could be a bit more imaginative with more use of local produce.
Review 119:A hotel with loads of character, charm & countryside views. Rooms are spacious, nicely presented with comfortable beds.
Review 120:welcoming friendly staff. Very easy relaxed atmosphere but attentive staff on hand if you needed anything. Very quiet and away from roads and noise. A very enjoyable weekend
Review 121:Check in was slow due to dealing with other guests and a lost room key. Meal service was very slow and some options had run out at breakfast. Rather dark and gloomy but bedroom good
Review 122:Good menu choices, lovely location. Staff helpful
