Reviews for The Buck Inn Guest House

Review 1:We arrived after a long drive to be greeted by two very young girls behind the bar (I'm guessing maybe 18), we were told no food available, but if we went on the net we could order in, what happens if you dont take a laptop with you? The showers were dirty and had mould

Review 2:The breakfast was substantial and our little dog was welcomed

Review 3:Nothing at all!

Review 4:Lovely room, fab location. Stayed for a night with husband and 2 kids for a family wedding. Service was brilliant, staff really friendly and helpful.

Review 5:A dirty, unkempt place with no care given. Bed had clean sheets but nothing else was. Shower full of mould, carpet had only been hoovered in the middle. Dirt along edges and behind bed. Valance on bed was stained and dirty. Kettle did not work. Dining room was untidy with clutter and needed a good clean. Breakfast was mediocre to be honest didn't eat it as we saw the kitchen. How it can claim the write up on booking.com is beyond me. If we could have got out of staying we would!

Review 6:There was nothing to like!!

Review 7:It was more like a nightclub with rooms. All the groundfloor is a pub. On the Saturday night we stayed the pounding music went on until after 2am and noisy people were still shouting outside our room after 3am. I would not recommend to anyone as we only got 3 hours sleep.

Review 8:Breakfast was tasty and the breakfast staff were nice.

Review 9:Parking was an issue when we arrived as its a 2 hour disc zone which meant we took our car to the wedding instead of leaving it as we would have had to move it every 2 hours. The noise level from the people in the bar downstairs was pretty bad once they had all left the bar- we were kept awake until 3am, not great when it was our first night away from our baby so we needed the sleep! Breakfast wasn't good, it was piled on the plate. There was far too much and it was over cooked. One of everything would have been more than sufficient and the sausages were pretty nasty. The room could have been cleaner. There was mould under the window and things growing in the bathroom.

Review 10:Location was great

Review 11:1 bedroom was adequate and the beds were comfortable. The other one was very dirty on arrival but after complaining some effort was made to clean it The whole building was tired and in need of a revamp

Review 12:Convenient for the centre of town and breakfast was good and plentiful

Review 13:I usually expect a certain standard for £80 a night. The room furnishings were old and threadbare, the carpet didn't look as though it had been hoovered, and the shower hadn't been cleaned before (or during) my stay. No shampoo / shower gel samples in the bathroom. There was also a lot of noise from the pub downstairs. No cooked breakfast provided on the second morning as I can only presume they forgot I was there.

Review 14:Central location Comfortable bed View overlooking castle The cooked breakfast on the first day was nice (although they forgot all about me on the second day)

Review 15:Very friendly atmosphere. It's my second time staying at this hotel and I will be staying again in the near future. The location is ideally situated within the town.

Review 16:Everything about the hotel The hotel is very old , dated , dirty. One of the beds in our room had been slept in, the owner was aware but as we were a couple he asumed that only the double bed needed changing. The room and en-suite was dirty. The breakfast and dinning room were shocking , dirty sugar bowls and food encrusted on the salt and pepper pots.I didn't dare eat the fry up put infront of me 20 mins late , burned sausgaes fried bacon and pale microwaved scrambled eggs. Awful place, embarresed that I didn't leave immdeiately before handing over my hard earned cash.

Review 17:Nothing

Review 18:Staff swearing with the younger customers. Sign on the toilet door regarding drug dealer and taking. Very grubby. Very noisy inside and outside. Not appropriate for families at all.

Review 19:The shower in the bathroom didn't work, the "dining room" could have done with a good vacuum and general clean. The stairs up to the room also could have done with cleaning. I stayed there 5 years ago and was very disappointed this time.

Review 20:Good location, helpful staff. Over size TV - doesn't need one that big.

Review 21:The Buck house has very tired decor and fittings, far to much noise from the bar area downstairs considering its also a B&B. The whole place felt like it needed to be refurbished. The breakfast was OK, but the beans were cold. I wouldn't stay again.

Review 22:Central Location

Review 23:The place was filthy dirty. The furniture and fixtures and fittings were old and worn. Great location but dreadful accommodation. I suggest it's taken off the booking.com listings.

Review 24:Booking . Com had not let them know we were coming. Mattress and bed frame different sizes, no bedside cabinet on one side, no bedside light, no housekeeping, on the whole very basic accomodation.

Review 25:Very helpful friendly staff.

Review 26:tap over washbasin needs repairing, no soap in room, mattress didn't fit bed. Whole place could do with upgrading.

Review 27:Location to the city centre good and view from bedroom window good

Review 28:Taps loose and stiff to open. Reported. Shower mouldy. Bedroom curtains falling off - wrongs hooks! Room floor dirty and not cleaned around beds. TV didn't work. Stairs difficult. Dining room not cleaned. Pub basic!

Review 29:Staff friendly. Location and parking good.

Review 30:Parking - received a parking ticket because the owners failed to inform us of the parking disc scheme in operation locally.

Review 31:The location was good for places of interest and close to the town centre restaurants and shops

Review 32:Cleanliness not good, room had not been vacuumed, bedding didn't appear fresh and towels were old and mismatched. Completed our breakfast our breakfast as requested order but what we got was somewhat different. Dining room grubby and filled with lot of junk. Lovely outside space that was neglected and littered.

Review 33:Setting lovely

Review 34:The whole general condition in desperate need of a clean, and decorating.Back

Review 35:Not a lot, requires to state that this is not a guest/hotel but more of a backpackers stopover and workmans accomadation, you get what you see

Review 36:We didn't know there was a lockout time and didn't get a key. But the manager dealt with my complaint as best he could in the morning

Review 37:The location

Review 38:See above. Unfortunately the chef had walked out without informing anyone so no cooked breakfast! We managed to find the kitchen and helped ourselves to cereal, juice, tea and coffee. Boss's father agreed not to charge for previous evening meal under the circumstances!!

Review 39:Not suitable for disabled or those who can't manage steep stairs!

Review 40:Great breakfast, beautiful beer garden with lovely views. Basic but very good value!

Review 41:No bad experience but make sure when u get there to get a ticket from the desk for ur car. Traffic wardens come round at 8am!! Luckily the man at the front saw the warden coming and run outside with a ticket for us!

Review 42:Brilliant place to stay if you are going to Catterick to see your Son or Daughter. No distance from Barracks. Staff were amazing!! Anything u asked was no trouble! If u want luxury then no but for us it was perfect!!

Review 43:Everything else. Unfriendly staff, dirty and smells of cooking grease.Badly needs decorating, bin in room still had a dirty nappy in it fromthe previous guests. Towels ripped, floors not hoovered. Dining room onsecond floor also acting as an office, official paperwork for all tosee. Breakfast was a plate of grease and the chef (loosely termed)swearing and banging in the kitchen while cooking.

Review 44:Had a hairdrier, bed reasonably comfortable nothing else to bepositive about.

Review 45:Poor state of hygiene and disrepair throughout. Loud bar music went on till around 1am and this was a week night. No hairdryer in room nor in the hotel. Duvet not clean. Scratching noise in loft during the night. Shower nearly scalded me when I turned it off and turned it on again, then produced freezing water for a while. Not worth the money.

Review 46:Convenient position near town centre. Breakfast was on time and prepared well.

Review 47:It was central to Museum which we wanted to visit. Also eating places where everyone was friendly. Staff at Buck Hotel helpful & pleasant. Parking outside which was a plus.

Review 48:No key to front door had to bang on window to get in .rooms need cleaning on suit stinks towels dirty

Review 49:Felt sorry for the barmaid on her own on bank holiday but she was still very friendly

Review 50:HAVE STAYED HERE TWICE BEFORE AND COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH IT HAD GONE DOWNHILL! IT WAS VERY SCRUFFY AND BECAME VERY NOISY LATER ON AT NIGHT (BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!). NONE OF IT WAS VALUE FOR MONEY. WE WON'T BE RETURNING!

Review 51:LOCATION'S GOOD BUT NOT EASY TO PARK DURING DAY. NOTHING ELSE WAS GOOD ABOUT IT!

Review 52:It is a run down pub , there was a lot on noise until 2 pm. The response of the owner was "well you you won't want to come here again" they did not take AMEX so I had to go and get cash. It is without a doubt the worst accommodation I have stayed in. It was not worth the money.

Review 53:Close to centre

Review 54:Mould in toilet/shower. The breakfast wasn't good apart from the eggs which were ok.

Review 55:Bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows! Huge tv in room.

Review 56:Where to start!! This hotel is a disgrace, dirty, shabby and in a general state of disrepair. There was no one around to make breakfast or check us out, with two hungry boys we packed up and let ourselves out!

Review 57:The central location

Review 58:Breakfast, cold rooms, dirty shower, broken toilet seat, cracked crockery, smell of bleach at breakfast table, decor, flat beer (indicates dirty lines or glasses)......

Review 59:Leaving.

Review 60:Rooms shabby and dated. Broken shower and cold water tap on sink, 1 towel for 2 people. No toiletries. Quilt on bed was little more than an eiderdown, not sufficient for October. Despite ordering breakfast the night before, parts were missing, chef/ waitress extremely rude and we got the impression that parts of breakfast were missing because they couldn't be bothered to cook it. Fawlty Towers would have been preferable over the Buck Inn.

Review 61:Manager and bar staff friendly.

Review 62:Shower was damaged so we were moved into a tiny alternative room in which the en suite was tatty and not clean. Bin was still full from previous occupants. Beds and linen were old; furniture was jumble. An over use of feature wallpaper lacked any class. Breakfast room was dirty, bread was still in plastic bags. Thick dust in display cabinets. Booked 3 nights, stayed for only 1 and found a nearby alternative for same cost but much better style, cleanliness and comfort.

Review 63:Staff were pleasant, breakfast was ok, location was perfect

Review 64:The smell of smoke and alcohol put me off straight away. The Staff member gave us no information on the place, just wanted to leave. Not worth the price compared to other places.

Review 65:cold room no hair drier - did get one when asked no toiletries provided only 1 bath & 1 hand towel for 2 people no more provided even though I asked expect these things for money asked

Review 66:comfortable bed good breakfast nice bar staff

Review 67:Both of our bedrooms faced the front of the pub and from about 11.30pm to 2am there were loud shouts, laughter and merriment from the pavement below where the pub had placed tables and chairs for their customers. (Lovely old-fashioned sash windows did very little to stop the noise!) As we both faced a long drive each the next day, the lack of sleep was rather worrying. Perhaps we should have expected it, this being a pub and with the no-smoking inside law! First shower was fine but then five minutes later the water power was very low and the temperature kept changing from really hot to really cold. (This was at about 6pm so perhaps their was competition for the water from the kitchens or other residents.)

Review 68:The location - attractive street, easy to walk to a variety of restaurants. Lovely view through the back windows of the bar area of the castle and countryside. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was good. Rooms were spacious.

Review 69:Everything about this so called hotel, it is shabby, filthy, service appalling and food, well, what food. I can't imagine how this place has 4 stars. Towels and bed linen ?? if they were clean. Carpets stained. Holes in the floorboards covered by carpets, and not small holes either. Just don't even consider booking this place when there is so much more choice in Richmond. And the luxury of each bedroom a tatty plastic garden chair for each room. All this for £80 a night.

Review 70:Nothing, only the location.

Review 71:General atmosphere of grubbiness. Felt that the whole place was slowly spiralling down into a black hole. Terrible food.

Review 72:Management & staff friendly.

Review 73:Wifi bar, atmosphere in that area

Review 74:excellent view of Richmond and countryside from our window very central, 5 minutes walk from main square in old fashioned street, cobbled

Review 75:Could have done with a hair dryer in the room.

Review 76:Friendly place, great location & yummy breakfast! Wonderful views. We enjoyed our weekend stay for a wedding in Richmond.

Review 77:Our room was on the top floor reached by 2 flights of very steep stairs with a doddgy banister. This was tottally unsuitable for older clients, our little dog fell up and down on the stairs they were so steep. We had requestyed a room on a ground or low floor. The breakfast left a lot to be desired,

Review 78:A pub, not a hotel/guest house. Noisy people in the street below, coming out of the pub to smoke and finally leaving at around 1am kept us awake on 3 of the 4 midweek nights we stayed. Dirty carpet. Mismatched furniture with bits missing. Not much breakfast choice if you don't want a fry up.

Review 79:Spacious comfortable room with TV, wifi, tea and coffee. Clean apart from the carpet. Good location for the town. Slightly cheaper than other local hotels, but rather have paid more for something better.

Review 80:Would describe as tatty. Poor furnishings, restaurant unnatractive. Tele didnt work and apart from a very helpful local in the bar no one was interested

Review 81:Beds and sheets were good and clean

Review 82:The shower did not work properly either being cold or scalding and was not possible to find a optimum temperature. There was no dinner service on a Monday and Tuesday and breakfast was not brilliant with grey microwaved scrambled egg.Breakfast was served in a room cluttered with a printer and scattered paper where the breakfast orders sheets and dinner menues had been printed.Simple things that would be simple to sort out and would make a massive difference

Review 83:Room was good had wifi and comfortable beds and friendly staff.

Review 84:Uncomfortable beds, excessive music way beyond normal noise levels and despite complaining it went on till 2am. THIs venue needs to decide to concentrate on guest staying or drinkers. Swearing and loud noise outside our third floor window until 2am.

Review 85:Location

Review 86:the staff were good, very friendly. the place had a lot of character. room was clean but even with on suite was a bit crowded for a family room, breakfast was ok..

Review 87:There should be a warning on the web site before booking that there will be loud music and rowdy noise outside till the early hours. We had no sleep till after 3.00 a.m. in the morning.

Review 88:The hotel was clean and comfortable. The food was excellent

Review 89:A large sash window in the bedroom would not close as it had been painted in the open position. The wash-basin was positioned at the opposite end of the bedroom from the toilet and shower. There was no bed-side lamp or light-switch. A noisy disco carried on until 2.00am.

Review 90:The location was good.

Review 91:Shower didn't work properly Mould in room & bathroom Said on booking castle view didn't get, only get two hours parking outside doesn't say this on website

Review 92:Good location

Review 93:Dirty bed linen.

Review 94:Cheap for our needs

Review 95:Bit basic

Review 96:Great place, perfect location for Richmond, will be stopping here again

Review 97:Could do with a refurbishment.

Review 98:Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 99:Noise going on from music too late at night

Review 100:Hotel staff and location

Review 101:Grubby, dirty breakfast was terrible. Overpriced

Review 102:Everything, avoid this dump at all costs. £80 a night for that?! You've got to be joking, that's taking the p***!

Review 103:Nothing.

Review 104:staff very friendly and hotel was in perfect location to local attractions.

Review 105:Urgently in need of modernisation.

Review 106:The standard of cleanliness, the quality of furniture and fittings and the general clutter about the place.

Review 107:The friendly, approachable female staff.

Review 108:Needs re decorating

Review 109:Friendly staff and good location

Review 110:Needs a makeover. Duvets shabby. Noisy at chucking-out time.

Review 111:Nice people

Review 112:close to Richmond town center

Review 113:The breakfast

Review 114:Liked the people and where the hotel is based

Review 115:good clean and tidy required

Review 116:Cleanliness and decor

Review 117:Not doing food on a Sunday evening

Review 118:Convenient for the Coast to Coast walk and the town centre. Excellent view from our bedroom window.

Review 119:The website advertise food. And they don't do food.we had to go elsewhere

Review 120:Friendly staff views/area good system for breakfast nicely cooked

Review 121:Very noisy until midnight Very uncomfortable bed No car parking

Review 122:pleasant and comfortable, nice location. would go back again.

Review 123:Other guests allowed to bring pet dog into the dining room for breakfast. Are there not regulations about that sort of thing?

Review 124:The television was untunable the bedroom door would not lock. The front door key would not fit

Review 125:The bed

Review 126:bathroom not clean, shower very dirty inside

Review 127:location and bar

Review 128:evertything

Review 129:nothing
