Reviews for Hôtel du Commerce

Review 1:Definitly not a hotel, more a hostel. Rooms are not clean. Wifi never works. Terrible shower curtain. Beds are outdated and needs to be replaced

Review 2:Location is good

Review 3:We stayed on 5th floor and there was no elevator ( not an issue for us but may be for less able bodies). Shower was literally plonked in middle of room, not much privacy!! But it was much cheaper than other places, so you pay for what you get! Good for a short stay.

Review 4:Great location, right near Notre dame, easy access from train station via the metro and a short walk. Lots of great eateries nearby, and amazing bakeries and cheese shops.

Review 5:My room was on the 5th floor with no elevator and very narrow stairs. This isn't a 5 star hotel, be aware of that. Insonorization very bad. I travel light and Im young, it was a cool stay for me. Don't recommend this place for the more picky people

Review 6:Location is very central. The price for paris standards is quite good too.

Review 7:The shower sink is odor - probably because it shares the pipe with the toilet in the hallway and the pipe has not been sealed or designed properly. The odor also goes to the bedroom either from the shower or from the toilet in the hallway just next door. On the second day the room did not get cleaned.

Review 8:the location is perfect, the bedroom is very big with a desk and with a shower room

Review 9:The share toilette, and the poorest part is the shower, is downstairs and is clean only once a day.

Review 10:The location is excellent. Near to Notre Dame Church and the river. Also near to night life on "Hachette" street. Beatrice is a great receptionist and orients a lot.

Review 11:Room is located on the 5th and top floor of an old building. It is an attic room, with a very small window, warped floor and no elevator. There was no tv screen, nor telephone. Shower had little water and the room smelled moisture (signs of moisture were visible on ceiling). Soundproofing was poor and we could hear slamming doors during the night as people had to go in and out because of the shared toilet.

Review 12:The location is a must, specially for that price. The hotel is located in a very central and fancy area in Paris, close to the main touristic attractions.

Review 13:The sound isolation is very bad. You can hear what is going on in the room upstairs. However, it is quite typical for Paris.

Review 14:The location is perfect. Next to Notre Dam and metro. Also nice brasseries and cafes next by. Personnel is friendly and helpful.

Review 15:Bathrooms could be improved (a bit old and damp.) No lift and the stairs are a bit too narrow so it can be dangerous.

Review 16:Very good location, nice room, good bed.

Review 17:There was someone called us at the hotel ,the staff made note but he didn't give it to us.so,we missed the important appointment.

Review 18:The location is good.the people at the grocery nearby is very friendly.

Review 19:A little odd that one has to pay for the showers but understandable considering its hotel/hostel crossover vibe.

Review 20:Lovely people, clean and efficient place, excellent location & good price.

Review 21:Although spacious and extremely well kept, the fact that the showers are located at ground floor level bothered me a bit, but over all cant complain

Review 22:Friendly staff, comfortable room, top cleanliness. Good location- there's a metro station 5min walk away and 10min walk to the Notre Dame (and hence the Seine)

Review 23:no shower or toilet in the room. room is very narrow and there is no little bedlight. window couldnot stay open unless you hold a chair up to it.awfull colour blue paint on the wall.

Review 24:shower is clean and location is allright

Review 25:Room was hot, small and not much to it. The shared showers were all the way down stairs near reception, not enough privacy from the hotel staff to have a shower comfortably. Too inconvenient to have a shower late at night as we were upstairs. No breakfast options available. Location was alright, close to food and local shops, but hard to find as it was in an alley. Could only pay with cash.

Review 26:Friendly and helpful staff members

Review 27:There are a lot of stairs depending what floor you are on if you are on the 5th floor there are about 80 steps

Review 28:The hotel was basic but for the price it was fine and the location is great

Review 29:A lot of stairs, for one night stands with Lots of baggage It's not good idea, i made a bit afford to get to room with big heavy baggases. Tight corridor and old fashion style small rooms. But localization is awesome! For young peaple is great and nice stuff. Advice for young with Intension to sightsee and party ;)

Review 30:Awesome localization :)

Review 31:very poor and inexperienced staff that are not ready to hold a conversation with their visitors. they can't even understand the cancellation rules set by the site.

Review 32:Shared bathroom, 2€ showers, no elevator, had to climb the narrow and winding stairs to the fifth floor, no visitors, no credit cards, no temperature control, bad view, hospital sheets, no soundproofing, etc.

Review 33:They gave us a room 5 hours in advance before check-in time.

Review 34:good location. very comfortably. close to cafes, restaurants and attractions. Highly recommended for tourists. for a few days this is the best place to stay.

Review 35:There is no lift, but we did not mind the stairs to the 5th floor.

Review 36:Friendly and caring staff! The offered hotel-airport-shuttle is very convenient and the price is ok. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We liked the colourful wall painting.

Review 37:No elevator. Nobody cleaned our room for the whole duration of the stay. Payment in cash.

Review 38:Location, 3 min walk from the Metro. Great neighbourhood (salumerie, fromagerie, boulangerie etc.) all of that is nearby.

Review 39:For the price that we paid, We couldn't expect too much but we expected at least the basics would be working properly We stayed on the ground floor and the toilet lights wouldn't work properly the sensor was located too far from where you sit so you ended up in the dark ( I don't know about the other floors) I couldn't use the shower on the maximum heat and pressure otherwise it would get cold after a few minutes and they charge for each shower you take

Review 40:Staffs are friendly

Review 41:Much hot and dry in the room, noisy outside, very high stairs from shower room to bedroom, you need to pay 2 euros per person for shower in the room near the reception, just one room is available and it is no hot water in such a cold day! I got a very gravy could because of this!

Review 42:Good for security and near metro line 10 and Norte dame.

Review 43:The place looked tired, the floor was uneven and the (en-suite) bathroom had mould everywhere. The sheets had fluff and hair on them so had to ask for clean sheets. Location was ideal but next time will spend a bit more on a hotel if this is what 80Euro gets you. If I was in a hotel in the UK I would have walked out.

Review 44:The location of this hotel was ideal - just up the road are a number of bars and restaurants! Can highly recommend Le Petit Cafe We had an ensuite room

Review 45:The attitude of some staff towards customers could be better. The facilities are just too basic. We had to move on the second day to another room which had not been properly cleaned. The hotel was still under decoration: you can smell the painting and the materials were just around. Really narrow stairs.

Review 46:Nice location: in the Latin quartier and Notre Dame is five minutes' walk away from the hotel

Review 47:Poor room conditions..rusted showers, shared toilets, cold staff, no elevators and d list continues..in short not value for money..

Review 48:There was nothing to be liked except location..clpse to Notre Dame..

Review 49:The staff never helped with the luggages and stairs is the most inconvenient and craziest we have ever seen. Rooms smelled so bad and not maintained. We woke up with aching backs since the floor wasn't aligned thus the bed wasn't too. One receptionist was very arrogant and not friendly to guests at all.

Review 50:The location was good. And they have a laptop for guests to use as well as a printer free of charge.

Review 51:To be honest the location is brilliant but besides this this hotel is very poor! The staircases are narrow which does not seem to be a problem except when they are full of dirty laundry bags and bin bags... The shower is on the ground floor and there is only one for all guests and they charge 2€ for each shower you take which would be acceptable if at least this would be cleaned after each use with is not... Besides our attempts to express ourselves in french the staff would not even aknoledge this and every attempt we made to Speak with them was a waste of time as they would not even bother trying to help. The most stupid think was that the hotel had several empty rooms and still they grave us a room on the Last floor. Would definatelly not come back and if we only knew we would have paid a little bit more and stayed in a more pleasant hotel.

Review 52:The location of the hotel and the fact the wi fi connection is still excelent even for the guests on the Last floor.

Review 53:Not very many power points in the room and heating didn't work but it wasn't to coold any way. Woolen blanket was very itchie.

Review 54:Good location staff where friendly

Review 55:The stairs were no confortable for bags, barhroom facilities can be renovate (we know they are already doing that, congrats!)

Review 56:Excellent price! And staff was so friendly, thanks for receiving us!

Review 57:Really expensive according to money you paid, our room was old, cold and not enough clean, hotel does not accept credit card also

Review 58:Location, close to Metro station

Review 59:Top floor room (88 euro's per night) had dirty shower (mildew on the walls), dirty toilet (smells) and a very sticky floor. Room was noisy - all night there were people slamming doors when going to toilet at corridor, and you could hear ventilators which were left switched on etc. No value for money.

Review 60:location was excellent, also the facility to bring your own breakfast and eat it near the coffee machine. Beds (we tried two rooms) were good. Room downstairs (128 euro's per night) was great, but also very noisy thanks to sewer pipes running thru our bathroom and creaking floor of neighbours above. . .

Review 61:We were not told that the hotel did not take cards. So I had to walk some blocks to am ATM to get cash to pay the bill. The receptionist on checkout was extremely rude and unhelpful. We Adked him to get a cab for us, he pointed down to street and said there was a taxi stand several blocks away. I would never recommend this hotel.

Review 62:Location

Review 63:Location, room, bathroom, No credit card facilities. hard to find the hotel as we was looking for an hour or so then we called hotel no answer. Luckily we found one. Noting like on picture.

Review 64:Actually noting. We booked as this was cheapest on that. they was painting that time in hotel.

Review 65:During booking of my room I was aware that bathroom will be outside of my room. However, I didn't expect that there will be just one (very ugly and dirty) shower for the whole hotel. Moreover, there was no hot water during the morning and afternoon hours. When I asked the staff they told me that due to some renovation there will be no hot water pretending that it's a very normal situation. To make the matter worse, during whole stay the entrance to the hotel as well as the main corridor were painted, so the smell in the room was just terrible. Finally, there was a lot of dust in my room (especially in the wardrobe and on the floor). Overall, I don't recommend anyone to stay in this hotel, bearing in mind that the price for one person per night exceeds 50 euro.

Review 66:This hotel has only one advantage: it is located in the downtown of Paris. Everything else is a disaster.

Review 67:Lackluster experience all around. The staff were brusque, the room & facilities dingy (and they were painting the halls while we stayed, without any signs or warning––thankfully we didn't get paint on our stuff, but the smell was pretty noxious), and the internet very slow. Sharing a toilet wasn't a big issue, but the doors stick and the walls are very thin so we woke up any time other guests opened the bathroom door. There was also a water pipe running vertically through our room that made a loud rushing noise, presumably when our upstairs neighbors flushed the toilet.

Review 68:The only really positive thing to report is the location, which is right in the Latin Quarter, about a 5 minute walk from the Seine & Notre Dâme. Hard to beat the price without being a long metro ride from city center. We were also happy to have a private sink and shower in our room.

Review 69:Had to walk up a lot of stairs, the decor is very... Interesting. I don't know who was responsible for the decor but it's very questionable, overly colourful with no sense of style! Our room had bright purple and orange walls (yuck!). Bed was a bit hard with really weird covers - it wasn't a duvet, it wasn't a blanket it was just some kinda stiff uncomfortable sheet. Shared toilet is a bit annoying but the room had a shower and sink. Also a big thing I must mention is that if you see anything claiming the walls are soundproof... They definitely AREN'T! We listened very clearly to a very noisy couple having sex in a room down the hall all night who clearly fell for that one.

Review 70:Good location - literally about 5 minutes from the Notre Dame and Love Lock bridge. There's a microwave in a communal area downstairs by the reception desk which is very useful if you're travelling like we were. There was free wifi that worked - massive bonus!

Review 71:Although it said it on the booking confirmation, it wasn't obvious it was cash only and we weren't reminded when we checked in; this would have made it a lot easier when we checked out. The holder for the shower head was broken, which was a bit of an inconvenience, but no major drama.

Review 72:The location was very good, close to Notre Dame and a reasonable walking distance from the Louvre. The room was quiet, with a nice big bathroom.

Review 73:the receptionist didn't care that much about the guests need, he just spoke in his phone and the guests waiting to talk with him

Review 74:the location is good

Review 75:Five flights of stairs were a killer and we found it pretty hard to find late at night

Review 76:Having the shower in the room was handy and the staff was lovely and helpful!

Review 77:The floor is extremely crooked and uneven. We had to use two 600 pagebooks to make the bed stand properly. Showers cost 2€ each. If room hasa shower, the shower head must be held all the time - there is no way toattach it to the wall. Construction work outside hotel, cannot openwindows due to dust. Does not accept credit cards, unlike it says onbooking.com.

Review 78:The location is good (you should try a great artisan bakery Erik Kaisernext street), the price is relatively low, free wifi (albeit belowaverage signal strength)

Review 79:The receptionist did not want to honor the agreement on booking. He was extremely rude, yelled at me and almost kicked me out after I told him I wasn't going to pay more than what I had booked. Thankfully the manager fixed everything and our stay was pleasant after that. I paid only what the agreement was. Thank you Manager !

Review 80:The location and manager were excellent. Very clean, great value !

Review 81:The staff member on reception talked on his personal phone the wholetime we were checking in, making us feel very unwelcome. He seemed to beon it 24/7. Our room was on the top floor and with no lift it wasknackering to go up & down the dodgy badly made steps. The leafletin our room said the rooms are only cleaned once a week! The whole flooris on a steep slant, meaning the bed was too so it was veryuncomfortable. We had to pay 2euros for showers!!! Which we had no ideaabout prior to staying.. Even the worst hotels don't make you payfor showers! Couldn't believe it! To make matters worse the showersare in the reception! So we had to treck from the top floor to thebottom floor, and showering there was very uncomfortable as you feel soexposed walking past everyone. Then all the way back up again! Thetoilet doesn't have a sink. So if you use the toilet you have tothen walk back to your room to use the sink in your room to wash yourhands. All in all a very uncomfortable stay.. And we only stayed onenight!!! Wouldn't recommend, a rip off!

Review 82:The location was good next to Jardin de Luxembourg.

Review 83:I reserved two rooms but one of them was canceled without any notice. The staff gave me a better room with no extra charge just when I complained.

Review 84:The hotel was just near the catherdral and lots of restaurants. The price was good too.

Review 85:the bed was full of bed bugs they bitten and hurted us so painful . and we had to search for the medicine . its just ruined our trip

Review 86:the security door

Review 87:This is actually more like a hostel and not a hotel, so one can't expect much. The shared shower is on the ground level close to the check in counter and one has to pay EUR 2 to use the shower. Only one shared shower for many people is a bit yucky, so I just washed in the basin in my room.

Review 88:This is actually more like a hostel and not a hotel. Great location.

Review 89:NO PARKING, slim stairs, bad without quilt, shower paiment 2 euro per person and long from rooms light

Review 90:Localisation, near by notre dam its center of paris

Review 91:One of the staff in the reception has horrible attitude and isn't very friendly, it ruined my whole day mood evey single morning I stayed there. And also there is no lift and we had to take a huge suitcase to the 5th floor

Review 92:The location is great, there are loads of restaurants and shops nearby, and is also very close to Notre Dame.

Review 93:No lift. If you come with big luggage you'll repent if your given the fourth floor. Bathroom is on the ground floor. And that costs extra. Rooms are really small

Review 94:Middle of Paris

Review 95:Our room was 5th floor and no elevator, very narrrow stairs!! No air conditioning and so hot and not fresh air in the room!! Very noisy room comes from the other rooms because of very thin wall and also construction noises from outside from 8 am.we have never a good sleep fir 3 nights!!! Cleaning is so so, but not dirty. Bed is not comfort very much. You must left your room key to reception, it is not meaningfull.

Review 96:Just location, although all of bad things about hotel -for specially Paris- Location is amazing! 500 m to Notre Dam.

Review 97:Cash only (contrary to what it may say on Booking.com). I was also charged extra to use the shower. Some construction and bar noise near the hotel.

Review 98:Great location, great value for Paris.

Review 99:Stairs were difficult as they were relatively narrow so be prepared to navigate with your luggage especially if they are large sized

Review 100:Location was fantastic and the staff were friendly.

Review 101:USING THE SHOWER COSTS 2€ each time + staff didn't bother mentioning this untill we paid to leave. Room wasn't clean enough that we would have liked to spend any time in there and for example sheets had some black hair and other dirt in them. Room had no toilet and to take a shower we had to walk down three floors to find the only two showers of the place.

Review 102:Location was excellent.

Review 103:Came doing the night , had reserved one extra bed but nobody seems to read the orders from the booking site. So first night we slept tree people in one small dubbelbed .. Doing checkout I wanted compensation but that was not hotel policy .. And you can only pay by cash ( 2015) guess it's a tax issue ?;-)

Review 104:Good location

Review 105:A little bit too noisy due to street activity and renovations. No kettle, hair dryer or toaster supplied.

Review 106:Not far from many of the top sights. Cafe next door.

Review 107:There was no fan in our room and the ventilation system was so bad that the room was stuffing and hot, especially when we travelled there in June

Review 108:Good location and comfort beds

Review 109:If you are there with heavy baggage and for many days, you should probably consider your ability to lift it and bring up to very high stairs. As it was just one night to sleepover in Paris, I left baggage in the room down stairs, because it was simply impossible to bring it up. Also you should consirder taking shower for 2 euros, because there is a sink in the room.

Review 110:Perfect location for Paris (Notre Dame so close), although it is pricy for its facilities! Also place has a special feeling of Paris, it is small and with that cute staircase, windows and so on. It was clean and simple.

Review 111:no bathroom in room, toilet down the hall, shower two floors down, down a narrow staircase. extra charge to use the shower, slow internet service. unhelpful staff, except for one person who was somewhat helpful.

Review 112:nothing

Review 113:The hotel itself is comfortable, but it was horrible to stay in a hot day because of the small window, bad ventilation and lack of air conditioning.

Review 114:Excellent location, kind staff and reasonable price.

Review 115:No A/C so hot in summer.

Review 116:The hotel is an easy walk to lots of great places: Notre-Dame, rue Mouffetard, les Arènes de Lutèces, Latin quarter restaurants etc and close to the Maubert-Mutualité metro and street market. You can use the communal fridge, microwave and plates etc. Rooms are simple, staff helpful.

Review 117:Some of our neighbors were rowdy and the walls were a bit thin. However, after we asked them nicely to quiet down, we could sleep.

Review 118:Friendly staff, good breakfast, clean room, wifi worked, 3/4 blocks from a subway and right by the sacre couer

Review 119:Staff is not really friendly Shower [shared] for extra fee!?! Very slow internet connectivity

Review 120:Location is simply amazing and nearly the whole city center is reachable by walk. Amazing city quarter.

Review 121:The only negative is that it is on the noisy street. If your room is facing the Main Street, evenings-nights can get very loud. And no air con

Review 122:Great staff, location and facilities.

Review 123:New male staff gave me a wrong room key. When I went in, it was occupied. Luckily, the occupants were out. It was on the 3rd floor, I was carrying my luggage then. No TV. No ref. No aircon or fan.

Review 124:Safe environment -- beside a police department. 5-10mins walk to Notre-Dame. 2min walk to Maubert Militante metro station and bus stops. Big bed. Clean facilities. 24 hours reception, but I saw the attending staff snoring on the sofa when I took a bath at 7am haha. Free wifi, good connection.

Review 125:I never know it cost 2€ to use shower room. As my travel period fall on hot days at paris, i needed to use shower room few times and the bed was very uncomfortable and the room was too small.

Review 126:The hotel is located on the quiet side and there is market open nearby every morning. You can easily find velib bicycle parking across the street. It also located near the notre dame.

Review 127:We had a lovely experience here, but I could see some guests having a difficult time hiking up the stairs, also there wasn't any air conditioning and it was pretty toasty in our room.

Review 128:The location is within a few blocks walking distance to Notre Dame and easily accessible to public transportation.

Review 129:Staff are unfriendly and unwelcoming. Confirmed check-in at 12pm but not allowed to until 2pm. Neither breakfast nor good kitchen facilities for your own breakfast.

Review 130:Booking.com has noted that this hotel except the credit card, but during check in they insist me to pay cash which trouble me a lot. I'm not sure either hotel or booking.com should be blame. But i'm the victim for sure...

Review 131:Smell of something (paint? smoke?) in downstairs hallway - not a problem, but hopefully they'll eventually get rid of that.

Review 132:Very friendly and helpful receptionists, nice little entrance/foyer with table, seating, tele, microwave, coffee machine, dishes etc. - good for breakfast and chat. Lovely room. Tasteful bright colours. Everything works well.

Review 133:The smell coming from the bathroom was absolutely nauseating. I travel and work in many places in the developing world where I rough it without electricity or running water and I would take those places over this one due to the horrible smell and mold in the bathroom. Also, the entire second day there was an extremely strong smell of gasoline to top off the bathroom stench. I would not recommend staying here!

Review 134:The location was good, close to Notre Dame, many transport links and the Sorbonne.

Review 135:No breakfast, no shower in the room (have to go downstairs to the lobby), but seemed okay. Wifi doesn't work too well in the rooms.

Review 136:Great location, and good price for Paris standards. For those Paris standards, the room was also quite spacious and decently equipped, if you want a bigger one, be ready to pay much much more for it or get outside the downtown completely.

Review 137:You can use wi-fi only in the hotel lobby.

Review 138:The location is just perfect. Beach is about 5 mins by walk. My room was small but clean and cozy. Administration is friendly.

Review 139:Wifi was horrible! They advertise soundproof? Really? You could heareverything. Rooms were distorted and disgusting. No mention when youbook that you would have to pay extra to have use of a shower. Ended upchanging to a room with a shower, which was old and grubby.

Review 140:Nothing - the rooms were old, distorted and disgusting.

Review 141:Unfortunately, we had a room with shower and the shower drain was very very smelly. The smell was overwhelming and it was probably our last time at the hotel. However it is still a good quality/price ratio and a solution could be to take a room without shower.

Review 142:It was our 2nd time at this hotel and we really like the proximity to subway station, latin quarter and downtown Paris. It is a very nice area to stay at low price.

Review 143:The hotel looks more poor and cheap than expected. Wi-Fi has a fair connection, probably poor channel.

Review 144:You get stay in the heart of Paris. Clean and tidy, really cheap.

Review 145:We want a double with shared toilet and bathroom and they gave us but the room is at the and of nowhere. The room was tiny and moist. The walls are very slim. I could hear the whispers from next room. Wifi was very very slow. And the funniest thing is taking shower is 2 euro.

Review 146:Location is great. Close to metro and Notre Dame. Staff was friendly except one of them.
