Reviews for Crescent Hotel
Review 1:Rented a twin room .. Booked online so had to put my credit card details . once my friend arrived he then was asked to pay for the room which was 44 pounds .. So he pay the amount .. When he told me that I assumed that they only took my card details for security reasons. Couple days ago received my bank statent from bank and there was a charge. Of 44 pounds from hotel.. Absolutely not happy about this. How can this hotel run like this .. Wouldn't trust to give them any bank details whatsoever
Review 2:Overall room was OK a little small . shower was quite nice ,hotel is quiete
Review 3:I was bitten c. 14 times on my first night - either bed bugs or insects at the hotel. I therefore had a very uncomfortable stay and have had to take tablets and apply cream since.
Review 4:Breakfast is made to order. Location of hotel is c. 10 minutes walk up an incline from centre of Reading.
Review 5:N/A
Review 6:It's a good budget B&B to opt for in reading and also located at walking dystance from reading west/ reading trying station , town Center etc . So it's a good value deal
Review 7:Although its only 20 mins walk, I'd get a taxi if you're coming from the town centre at night. £4.20 saves a walk in the dark
Review 8:Cheapest hotel in reading. Pretty empty when i was there. Guests that complained about the hot water in previous reviews dont know how to operate the shower. Not the most powerful but plenty if hot water. Room had a slightly weird smell but not unbearable by any means. The receptionist was polite and helpful. I would stay here again.
Review 9:The room was minute. The shower and wash basin surround was unclean. The bed was small and the cover was the same size
Review 10:The sheets were clean and the water was hot.
Review 11:poor hygiene especially the public areas and sleep for a week with flea bites all over my body told them I had fleas and did nothing to fix
Review 12:the bathtub
Review 13:Be careful when booking. I hadn't spotted that my room did not have a shower and I had to share a communal one. My fault but I feel booking.com could have highlighted this more during the booking process.
Review 14:Cheap compared to other hotels in the area for the day I wanted.
Review 15:The bathroom suite was tired and all a bit sad and in need of some attention. The shower temperature was difficult to get right on the retro electric power although there was good water pressure when i got it right.
Review 16:The room was simple but inviting. The bed was white linen, comfy and clean. It was value for money as an overnight stay. Our room had en suite (room 10) although some rooms share bathroom facilities.
Review 17:Downsides were that the place is extremely old and run down. My room smelt very musty so I had to air it for a long time. The bathroom was not particularly clean and the shower was poor. I would only recommend this place if you are not at all fussy with the room quality. The fact I had been for a heavy night out made a big difference.
Review 18:Stayed at this hotel for one night as I was going on a night out in Reading. The plus points were that it was the cheapest place I could find that was anywhere near Reading town centre. The walk to the centre took about 15 minutes and was an easy walk, just one straight road. And there was free car parking available which is useful considering the price of parking.
Review 19:Staff are always polite and very helpful. The location is perfect for me. Bath water always hot and plentiful. I have stayed here quite regularly and find it very good value.
Review 20:The room was as if you are in the toilet. The carpet was stained and was very smelly. The bed was in a bad condition. The toilet was very bad. It gave us depression. They should not be allowed to run a place like this in a civilised world. At least, they should offer this type of a place for only a £1. Then it should be the responsibility of the people to decide whether they have to live in a sanitary condition. The receptionist asked us to give them a further £10 for the breakfast. How could we eat there?
Review 21:Staff friendly and accommodating. Room a little small but adequate for short stay, single room with en suite. Room well soundproof. No lift but staff quick to carry bags up. Staff stayed up for late arrival, after midnight. Breakfast, full English, included in price. Car park available. Good price for area. I would stay again.
Review 22:Bathroom needed finishing touches , shower was woeful hot then cold ! . Tv only had limited channels tried to re tune but no different . walls paper thin could hear next doors conversation into the late hours .
Review 23:Comfy bed clean sheets , lounge chairs .
Review 24:saturday breakfast time needs to start at 8 am for buisness people
Review 25:excellent for location and very friendly and helpful staff and very reasonable price
Review 26:Not value for money. Radiator falling off the wall. £52 a night with no breakfast, shared bathroom with shower that either gives you frost bite or scalds you in a bath that you think you might fall through. Could watch free view as it kept saying no signal. I had 2 nights here and it felt like a week.
Review 27:Parking.
Review 28:You get what you pay for, and I had a good deal of a cheap budget room at the top of the house. However, there was no offer to assist with taking my heavy case to my room. The heavy fire doors had to be pulled outwards towards self whilst balancing holding my suitcase and bag and trying not to fall backwards at the top of the stairs!! It felt so dangerous but I learnt to get used to it. The curtains in the room did not offer enough privacy. No bottled/drinking water available in the room. The 1st time driver I was in the morning to get to my business appointment, had no clue of the local area and street names and rudely stated "people think taxi drivers are robots! " The next day's driver was excellent and full of customer service.
Review 29:I had a good night's sleep in a clean bed, although the bed was shaky.
Review 30:room was tiny and not very clean-the shower head could not be adjusted properly-the breakfast was so poor that I left early to miss it and went to MacDonald's instead
Review 31:decent location and car parking facilities
Review 32:Room was shabby and very small. There was a hole in wall beside the bed. Flooring uneven and badly finished. The shower was more like a trickle
Review 33:Location was great within walking distance of town centre
Review 34:Bathroom incredibly small - and I am not tall at all -, I was barely able to take a normal shower, it wasn't enough space to even brush my teeth because it is all put in about 1-1.5 square meters. the breakfast had the cheapest products in the supermarket.. more like dog/cat food.
Review 35:Decent location, close to the city center. Nice and helpful people at the reception
Review 36:Very very run down hotel, could be so much nicer with just a little decoration. Kind of noisy too.
Review 37:Parking was good. Location was good. Very hard to find a hotel in central Reading with parking. Cheap too.
Review 38:Shower broke, breakfast horrible and cold, beds cheap and old, Overpriced for what it is
Review 39:Wouldn't stay here again Over priced Shower was faulty & coldBreakfast was distrusting & also cold Beds were old and cheap thewhole place smelt of foreign food never again
Review 40:Not as close to the city centre as it claims to be. Given a room on the top floor. Room very small & nothing like the photos! Decor was quite dated throughout the hotel. Shower very small & not much water pressure. Toilet bowl was dirty. Won't be staying there again!
Review 41:Staff were friendly.
Review 42:I have stayed in various places and I am not fussy about the room, customer service, or offered facilities. When I am paying quite cheap(like I did for this 'hotel') I am looking for the very basics -a bed with clean sheets, lamp bulb that works, hello on my arrival, thecarpet in the room that I would not be disgusted to stand on -That's it! However, this was beyond horrible experience! I will keepmyself short: bed bugs, rude staff, room very dirty! After staff got toknow that I have bed bugs they simply said: it cant be... I was promiseda refund, but it never happened. I gave them a call and was called aliar! Honestly, from the bottom of my heart - avoid this place. Betterpay extra 10, 20 or 30 pounds....
Review 43:Location was not too bad. I took me 15-20 mins to walk to city center.
Review 44:Shared bathroom and the place is a little 'tired' needs a coat of paint and a thorough clean
Review 45:Location, breakfast, friendly staff and great value for money!
Review 46:Very basic room (but to be expected at price) Tatty decoration. Curtain pole had no ends, wallpaper was pealing in many places and stains on picture frames in room Only 1 towel for a double room. Vending machine in reception but not plugged in Only 1 glass in room so had to share a glass of water
Review 47:The owner was very friendly and helpful. Good price, only 5 minute drive into town Car parking
Review 48:Didn't like anything the hotel should be closed down it need rewiring nothing works properly the place need cleaning it sunk it smells of filthy. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there
Review 49:Didn't like anything
Review 50:Wifi was intermittent and to only had one channel told to retune and it didn't alter it
Review 51:The staff was friendly the room was clean there was enough tea and coffee
Review 52:No elevator, narrow stairways and corridors, had difficulties to carry heavy luggage to room. Several areas of the hotel needs refursbishment. Towels were not replaced during our 3 nights stay.
Review 53:Stayed for 3 nights in a en-suit room. Friendly staff (family) trying to be helpful. Room was adequate and covered basic accommodation needs fairly. Basic breakfast was included in the price.
Review 54:Room was really small, I couldn't turn the radiator off, and the workman in the surrounding rooms had guests of ..... well the women only stayed an hour or so.
Review 55:Receptionist/owner was really nice but never saw anyone after checking in.
Review 56:The single room which I stayed smelled chemicals used in the old carpet, and the size of it should be prohibited by law.
Review 57:Despite the location (10min walking from town center) nothing else to sum at this horrible hotel.
Review 58:Window didn't close, shower was dirty, towels were dirty, hairs in bed, window was black with dirt, kettle was broken. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Shocking.
Review 59:Receptionist was lovely. TV worked.
Review 60:Really tired hotel that needs a lot of work to bring it up to a decent standard. Uncomfortable bed, dirty carpets, poor DIY jobs done. Didn't even consider eating breakfast here even though our stay included it.
Review 61:The fact that the place is a dirty and overpriced guest house, which operates under the misnomer 'hotel'. There was an overall lack of hygiene. The communal shower was dirty and dangerous (no cover on the switch to operate the electric shower). A truly unremarkable breakfast and unhelpful staff , especially when I went to report that my TV was not working. Vending machine at reception doesn't work either, which is was annoying - as nowhere nearby to purchase food. For less than £20 more, I really wish I'd checked into an Ibis or similar chain.
Review 62:The fact that my stay was only one night, so I knew that cleanliness and comfort were only around the corner.
Review 63:Fairly old place, little bit taty in places, overal the stay was fine for a night away for business.
Review 64:Location, Free wifi with good connection, Off road Parking, Breakfast was nice
Review 65:The owner of this hotel will always preach that this is a budget hotelbut budget or not there is no excuse for basic cleanliness. This hotelis filthy. We should have known earlier-the hotel sign facing the roadwas barely legible for green mould-a dirty double mattress propped upagainst a wheelie bin that had been there for some time in full view ofarriving guests-a dank and musty smelling reception desk-yellowingpaintwork full of chips-wallpaper old and dirty with rips and tears everywhere-holes in the walls -shoddy electrical fittings-filthy kettle I had tochange for a not quite so filthy one-tea and coffee facilities with goneoff milk-the "en suite" bathroom was horrendous with paintpeeling off ceiling,no lock on door but the hole still there big enoughto put a broom handle through, rotten wood around the base ofsink, stinking beneath the rim of toilet and silicon sealant plasteredeverywhere around the shower looked like the owners six year old haddone.though the young guy on reception seemed to do his best , wipingdown the breakfast table with the dirtiest flannel I have ever seendidnt help my quite pleasant breakfast go down along with a day of thetriffidesque plant growing in through the expelair vent. The outsidespace had one bistro table and three chairs with views of the lawn, fishpond and council tip in the corner. The owner just doesnt care by thelook of things...a little spend, hard work and a modicum of pride wouldgo a long way here. Would not stay here again even for £109 for twonights on 22nd and 23rd august which is when we did stay. P.S. now mywife is finding out that I suffered a bite from a bed bug I discoveredcrawling on my sheets the morning we were leaving. Always read reviewsif they are 90% the same story ......believe them.
Review 66:Bathroom and bedroom needed major overhaul - bed was lumpy and shower had almost no pressure. Cleanliness was also poor if you are accustomed to the major hotel chains.
Review 67:The wifi worked properly, decent speed.
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Just 10 walk from town centre.... Free wifi and parking.... Staff is very helpful ... Very reasonable price in reading town with perfect services
Review 70:Place was smelly and damp !! Owners family above banging and slamming doors from 5.30am owner no help what' so ever ....avoid like the plague it's a dive
Review 71:I had to leave 30 mins before breakfast and they were unable to even make a sandwich up even though breakfast was included in the price. Shared bathroom was through two hallway doors and two short flights of stairs.
Review 72:Leaving in the morning.
Review 73:Very tired and drab room, with an ancient TV and a sink it was impossible to use. No communal space in the hotel.
Review 74:Room was clean. WiFi and shower worked fine.
Review 75:The owner was incredibly helpful and went out of his way to ensure that everything was clean and working and was on hand to answer any queries at all times.
Review 76:shower in bathroom was out of order. mattress was too old that i could feel springs . couldnt sleep all night than in the morning the electric shower didnt work had to leave without shower. i asked the receptionist who is the manager , he said yes than when i told him about the shower , he goes oh i am soo sorry i will tell the manager about it what u just said you are the manager . than he has no answer the most worst experience
Review 77:Smelly & Dirty hotel, with really uncomfy beds and very poor fittings/décor. Windows were broken, bathroom had mould everywhere and generally everything has been bodged and in need of a refresh. There was tissue paper poked in the walls to fill holes and sticky stuff on the dirty carpet (Yuck) - without doubt the worst place I have ever stayed and not pleased at the £150 PN that I paid.
Review 78:Nothing!
Review 79:The walls are paper thin so its impossible to sleep with a noisy family next door which is what we had. We could even hear our daughters talking and laughing and they were staying on a different floor! Rooms were not very clean.
Review 80:Quiet residential street, ample free parking, staff were friendly and polite. Bedding was clean.
Review 81:A little old fashioned - could do with a fresh coat of paint and improved en suite. Old stains on the carpet and chairs
Review 82:Easy to find and convenient for the town centre
Review 83:Tiny room in a run down delapidated house. Kettle kept cutting out before boiling, Sound proofing,,awlful, some bloke next door coughing all night,.i had the worst nights sleep there in my entire 45 of being a human being. Would I go back there? Only if i'd been drugged.
Review 84:Nice pond in the garden, at least the fish are happy.
Review 85:Room had all we needed but it was cramped.
Review 86:Clean and comfortable, with a reasonable walk to the city centre. Staff really helpful when we phoned with a query before arrival. Well-stocked hospitality tray
Review 87:There were no bad points happy with everything.
Review 88:Staff very polite and friendly. Room good size and clean and tidy. Breakfast was good we even ordered extra toast. Was lovely to sit out in the garden in the sunshine.Excellent value for money will definitely book here again in the future.
Review 89:The appearance of the hotel and reception area is very disappointing.
Review 90:Room was a good size Clean comfortable beds Extremely helpful staff Very nice breakfast
Review 91:Smell of grease and oil when you went down the stairs to the dining room. Poor tatty decor Grotty blind in my bathroom Curtains that are not hung properly
Review 92:Lovely Staff
Review 93:Walls in room were unclean, Shower in the shared bathroom was pathetic, could hear the guy in the next room snoring all night. Fittings were hanging off of the wall.
Review 94:Close to Reading, Free parking
Review 95:Mattress on the bed wasn't particularly great, but we were so tired we didn't notice!
Review 96:Great location, a 40 minute walk from the station or £5.40 in a taxi. Room was simple but had everything including tea making facilities, en suite (bath and shower), towels, hairdryer and plenty of wardrobe space.
Review 97:I ate the breakfast because I had to. Milk in the room had tendency to turn into cheese. Breakfast room in the dark with TV is nothing I prefer. Better completely skip the breakfast there.
Review 98:A silent, conviently located (close to Reading railway station, close to pedestrian zone, close to bars & restaurants) sort of hotel. The bathroom & toilet to share was clean and functioning ok.
Review 99:Room is so small you step into room and straight into the most squeaky bed ever! A TV that only has 1 channel...a shower which lets out barely a trickle and that is either burning hot or freezing cold! The smell. The dirty sheets. The unhelpful man at the desk. I could go on but I really want to rid my memory of what was suppose to be a one night business stay.
Review 100:Free Wi FI and parking
Review 101:Drunk noisy residents attempting to get into my room twice, Cleaner in the morning opening my door , Slamming doors all night, Towel with stains on it , faulty shower, blocked toilet, flies on the ceiling of toilet, dampness marks on walls, street outside a variant of speeding cars and drunks after 11pm. Wasn't sure if the loud chatter at early AM was staff and friends sitting outside chatting away , free wifi was rubbish .
Review 102:Private parking Not far from centre
Review 103:Where to start... rooms on 2nd floor, with fire doors at the top of each flight of stairs - making it very difficult to move - especially with luggage. Bed was crammed in. Iron given had wires exposed.
Review 104:Staff friendly
Review 105:Thin walls meant I could hear the i player the person next door was listening to. When they moved their clothing on the coat hangers,it kept making me jump. Noisy doors kept banging late into the night. Dirty bathroom (shared facility) Unknown brown splashes on the shower head handle, and the bath sealant had "gone" Waiting for the light to come on in the loo at night, I trod in someone else's urine under the toilet bowl! Yum! Needed to clean the splashes of food from off the wall near the room bin.
Review 106:The room and bed was comfortable.
Review 107:Needs a good thorough deep clean. Carpets dirty, light switches dirty, used towel in bathroom and pillow slips looked unclean. Would not recommend and will definitely not return.
Review 108:Leaving
Review 109:Sausage tough. And had been kept warm. Beans cold tomatoes (as well!) were also cold.
Review 110:Staff were helpful enough. Very basic facilities. Breakfast was substandard. Hope this was an off day for the cook.
Review 111:Booking.com should be ashamed to offer this hotel at all, let alone £90 a night. In dire need of refurbishment, rooms are dirty and smell bad, shower is mouldy, mould on windowsill, bathroom fans from other rooms whirring through the night, springy mattresses, very uncomfortable. Nothing positive to day about this place. Again, cannot believe Booking.com is offering it. Unacceptable.
Review 112:Nothing.
Review 113:Steps to top of hotel were a bit steep if your not used to them. Have to be carefull of steps right behind a fire door, bit tricky with cases, but there were warning signs. Bed not the firmest of mattresses, but very clean. Light above mirror didn't work, tv remote didn't seem to work.
Review 114:The staff were friendly and efficient. Hotel was on a leafy street, fairly quite, close to town centre. Plenty of parking, nice garden with fishpond. Quiet nights sleep, room had everything needed. Tv better than expected. I didn't try breakfast as wasn't hungry at the time.
Review 115:Very old, needs decorating & many repairs to nearly everything, very thin partition walls, but hey it's cheap I wasn't expecting the Savoy so came as no surprise, read the advice comments for anywhere before booking as they are accurate for this establishment
Review 116:Ideal location for central Reading, This place is for Tradesperson staying away from home as cheap as possible with NO frills, at all, anywhere! Even the fishpond was filthy
Review 117:the room was tiny , like entering a cupboard , couldn't even get to the window to open it, shower was faulty , and flushing handle on toilet system was broken
Review 118:early check in
Review 119:Very tired hotel with dubious cleanliness. The bed was uncomfy - I could feel the springs, the loo didn't flush - when I asked them to mend it when I went out for supper and came back and nothing had been done. Miserable experience all round.
Review 120:Nothing - couldn't wait to leave
Review 121:Everything! Went for breakfast glasses for juice was dirty. Table cloth impregnated food stains. Room was not great at all. TV was a 12" portable circ 1970. Shower door didn't open or close properly. Cracked bedroom mirror. Bed was terrible to sleep. I wouldn't not recommend and will most definitely not stay again.. Please... you have been warned.
Review 122:The room was not clean, the carpet didn't seem to have been vacuumed, the toilet paper was cheap and nasty and the "hotel" itself is in a shoddy state, and very noisy. I was woken in the wee hours by people walking up the stairs.
Review 123:The only thing to like about it was that it was available. I only booked it because every other hotel had either run out of rooms that night or cost almost double the £99 cost of this room.
Review 124:The 2 nights I stayed i hardly got any sleep due to noisy guests above my room, floor boards were also very noisy so i could hear every movement they made!
Review 125:I had my own bathroom, location wasn't too bad
Review 126:Wifi didn't work. No hot water in my room. Halls and stairwells smelly. Breakfast awful.
Review 127:Nothing really. Room itself wasn't dirty, but it was tiny and I could hear the man next door coughing all night with his telly blaring out.
Review 128:Filthy breakfast tables, hair in bed, a lot of dust in the room, dated interior, broken toilet, not enough shower gel, noisy despite asking for a quiet room on booking
Review 129:Cheap.
Review 130:Small room, impossible to move. Dirty as hell... Staff answer questionsbut no smile manners etc... everything is dirty and/or notworking.. Especially disturbing when you try to eat your breakfast...At least the small Chinese woman in the kitchen was nice and make superquick breakfast
Review 131:Location wasn't the worst... 10-12 walk from Reading West or 10-15from Reading
Review 132:Breakfast was advertised as being free when I booked online, when in fact I had to pay an extra £4 on arrival. Very mediocre breakfast, quality of ingredients was very poor. Bathroom very tired looking with undecorated and broken areas.
Review 133:I woke up in morning and had itchy bug bite marks on leg, thigh face.still marks but itch gone a week later.no idea what are.not nice! Room was bit dusty and didn't use towel their as dusty.the smell of Bleach in sink plug hole not nice and in morning was used in bathrooms by cleaner.why bleach is used when it so toxic is questionable anyway and not nice to wake up to.shame as rest of place great.
Review 134:Single rooom with sink lovely and cosy and warm.safe lock door inside and out.nice staff.was happy there.loved it
Review 135:Cleanliness was only okay. Our room was very small and the beds and pillows were very soft. Only toiletries available were wrapped soap. Breakfast was reheated food.
Review 136:Very good WiFi signal. Had free parking. Very close to centre of Reading. Cheap place.
Review 137:The room was tiny, but sufficient for a solo traveller for one night
Review 138:This comfortable hotel is exactly on the route for the Reading half marathon and so was ideally placed for supporters to cheer on the runners. It had all the basics and was very clean
Review 139:nosey, smelly uncomfortable room, I've stayed at a lot of budget hotels in bed so I've experienced what I've paid for but this is down there with them, not what I expected for the cost and given its Reading not London.
