Reviews for Hotel La Regence

Review 1:Nice quiet room but had no view.

Review 2:The location is great, near to bus stops for Nice and handy to shops. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Very friendly, warm and welcoming.

Review 3:Room in front very noisy with windows open with traffic all night long.

Review 4:Middle of town location across from very helpful Office of Iourism and nice park. Great bakery and small grocer nearby too.

Review 5:Large clean bathroom, but shower tray quite shallow, and overflowed.

Review 6:Hotel is a typical small French hotel - bar below and only a few rooms. Our room faced the front, overlooking the street and small market square. The busy old village of Villefranche-sur-Mer is only a short walk away, with all its many bars and restuarants, harbour and beach .Although we visit the town regularly during the day, we wanted to see what the night-time ambience was like, and this hotel was the perfect base.

Review 7:Friendly, clean, no-frills hotel offering good value and easily reached by public transport from Nice (bus stop is only a few metres away). Bright, attractive, comfortable room overlooked main road junction but double glazing meant noise was never a problem. Will certainly stay here again.

Review 8:Comfy bed, lovely decor, old french shutters but fantastic double glazing so no noise from the street, great coffee and french bread for breakfast in the family run cafe bar downstairs...will definately go back

Review 9:The Hotel is situated a little higher than the restaurants and Supermarket so you have to climb quite a few stairs, which might be challenging for older people.

Review 10:Very nice staff, clean and nice rooms, good wifi Connection, beautiful bathroom

Review 11:Having to leave!!

Review 12:Charming family run inn close to port and old town, rooms comfortable and full of French charm. Owners always on site, delightful restaurant/bar on site with delicious croissants and fresh orange juice every morning. Could not have been better!!! Thank you to all of Booking .com staff who were there for me throughout the planning stage of our remarkable trip to Greece and France for month of September. !!! Warmest Regards, Marijo Santoni SMA

Review 13:Very noisy road directly outside. Bathroom without floor drain and poor shower seal allowed water to run out onto bedroom floor. Noisy air conditioner that didn't cool room.

Review 14:Location close to Port area and restaurants.

Review 15:Street noise from cars. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Review 16:Loved Betty and her family! They make the place - super friendly, helpful with tips about what to do and see in the area. The rooms were a good size, had AC and excellent WiFi. Great location for getting to Nice/Monaco and other Riviera destinations.

Review 17:The staff were so friendly and extremely helpful to any little query we had about the place, even though our french was extremely poor! The rooms were kept lovely and clean, good air conditioning and very comfy beds. No complaints!

Review 18:Can be quite hard to find car parking in the vicinity

Review 19:Well located, comfortable, small Hotel for touring the area. One of the oldest buildings in upper Villefranche which has been tastefully renovated.

Review 20:Basil Fawlty has nothing on her. To be clear this is a pension, not a hotel. You check in at the bar while the proprietress is serving beer and coffee to customers. Quite garrulous, no English at all and no concession to non-French speaker I asked for an iron + ironing board, a service offered by the “hotel” she then quizzed me what I had to iron and who was going to do the ironing. She then led us back to the “maids area” which is a garage out back to use the maid’s iron. I then asked for a blanket and then she started on “You want a lot don’t you, this isn’t a 4 star hotel you know, this is a €84 hotel.” I was speechless. Add to that the room is very noisy as it’s on the main arterial road through Villefranche, and guests seems to be allowed to smoke in the rooms. I was willing to cut my losses and go elsewhere, but everything was full. Le Provencal is similar price and is a proper hotel with a reception and polite staff. Don’t come here

Review 21:British Airways and Heathrow Terminal 5!

Review 22:The owner and management were absolutely charming people and also very helpful when it came to having to deal with British Airways by email. Villefranche is also an enchanting place to visit and the views across the bay are better than those in either Rio or Cape Town.

Review 23:The bus Nice-Monaco is just outside the hotel. The "city centre" and the beach is a 5-10 min walk downhill. Staff is warm and friendly, decoration is nice.

Review 24:The many steps back up from the beach would prove impossible for the elderly or infirm.

Review 25:Staff were so helpful and friendly in this little place, they were never too busy to help with advice. It was very convenient for sightseeing the surrounding areas, like Monaco or Nice. A five minute stroll down through the ancient and beautiful old town, with it's restaurants and shops, takes you to the beach.

Review 26:It's wonderful place! If you are looking for luxury of 5-stars hotel, you won't find it. But you'll find kind and open-hearted people like the master of the hotel. Besides the hotel is located not far from the sea, in the center of beautiful Villfranch. Very soul, very pretty hotel as if you are at home.

Review 27:Wifi worked only from 8am to 7pm. Room was not cleaned enough, when we arrived. Bed sheets and towels looked very old, although they were washed.

Review 28:Hotel has a very good location, stuff was very friendly. Bus stop, train station, souvenier shops, beach were very close to the hotel.

Review 29:Wi-Fi was a bit frustraiting since the service was stopping and you need to log in all the time.

Review 30:Great location and athmosphere. Wery welcoming Staff. It was nice to sit outside in the Bar and watch how all these luxory limousines were cruising between Nizza an Monaco.

Review 31:The only drawback to staying at La Regence is no parking. There is parking nearby but it's expensive.

Review 32:This is a classic old French hotel well worth a try. The staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful and entertaining. It was clean, quiet and in a great location above Villefranche. Loved it!

Review 33:It's on a busy road so take earplugs. However we were not disturbed by the traffic.

Review 34:All the staff were friendly and helpful. Betty (in the bar) was great!

Review 35:Conveniently situated for old and new town, bus stops & train station. Betty and her staff were charming and helpful. Room and bathroom comfortable and clean. Pleasant overall experience.

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:Great location. Near the busstops to other towns of Cote D' Azur. Beautifully decorated rooms Wonderful family owners who make you feel at home and goo out of their way to help you, It is our second time there and hopefully we will be back!

Review 38:The staff made us very welcome, our room was small but very Provencal in style, we overlooked the main road but the traffic cannot be heard much if the windows are closed.

Review 39:The wi-fi, while free, was absolutely hopeless. For some travellers this may not be an issue but we depend on wi-fi access to communicate with our family overseas and to access vital information about transport (there was a brief train strike we knew nothing about) and points of interest, restaurants etc. It was very frustrating battling with a wi-fi set-up that simply did not work.

Review 40:Betty and the rest of her team were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is in a very central location and the view from the window of our room onto the harbour was interesting. The two buses we depended on stopped within 30 meters of the hotel. The beds were comfortable and the room was large enough for our needs.

Review 41:road very noisy, there are traffic lights outside and vehicles need to accelerate. better with window shut but that meant no ventilation. Shower a bit small, it was easy to knock the taps causing very hot or cold water, better to have a thermostatic supply to prevent scalding.

Review 42:Friendly staff, comfortable bed, very clean.

Review 43:The room floor was very dusty and dirty. I wore my slippers. Stayed one night.

Review 44:The location is great for exploring. There are restaurants, old pier and nice markets/shops.

Review 45:The wifi was frustrating. You are given a complicated password/login to login for 1 hour at a time. We were kicked out after the first twenty minutes everytime and had to retype long, complicated password/login. This was very frustrating. My recommendation would to just give the travellers a hassle free, uninterrupted wifi.

Review 46:Comfortable room, very clean, good value. The hotel is at the top of the hill, on main bus stops. The staff replace towels daily, and tidy the room- this was a nice feature. Nice big bathroom countertop, and the AC made our sleep very very comfortable.

Review 47:A friendly welcome and nice looking, comfy room. We only stayed one night and literally slept there, didn't even stay for breakfast, but I can think of no reason to complain.

Review 48:The hotel is family-owned and they went out of their way to help make my stay enjoyable. The hotel is conveniently located close to Villefranche attractions and the bus route toNice.

Review 49:Poor WiFi connection, non existent really. Would have liked tea facilities in the room.

Review 50:Good location, clean, friendly owners and staff. Clean comfortable bed, good shower and plenty of hanging space with hangers.

Review 51:As the hotel is situated right on the road, its quite loud to sleep, there is no wifi at all, no tv and a safebox. The bed was small, like in many french hotels-the room was also small, but clean and cosy).

Review 52:Very friendly and nice owners. Clean and newly renovated rooms, close to busstops.

Review 53:Only one thing people may wish to be aware of is front rooms proximity to v.busy road outside. This did not bother us at all.

Review 54:Location superb very central had a front room sea views old town walking distance enjoyable to walk good views from room. Room v.comfortable and clean nicely decorated.

Review 55:The address you have listed here is NOT correct, therefore we could not get to it using GPS. We only found it by parking the car and walking around asking people! The internet is fast, but you have to resign on every hour.

Review 56:The location is convenient, the owner is congenial and helpful, the entrance through the bar makes you feel part of the community, the farmers market is right across the street. We loved this place and would stay here again.

Review 57:This was the perfect location for us to stay! The town is so beautiful and was our favorite place on our trip. Our room was in the middle of the village and made it easy to walk to all the places. The wifi was frustrating because it never worked for us, but everything else was great!

Review 58:the water from the shower leaks out through the glazed door, you have to sign in to wifi each hour through your email inbox...

Review 59:coffee on the ground floor,

Review 60:The wifi was having trouble while we were visiting, but it was not a huge deal to us, as we were hoping for a peaceful escape.

Review 61:The staff was lovely, and provided anything not in the room upon our arrival (or hair dryer). The room was beautifully decorated and the location of the hotel was perfect.

Review 62:couldn't get wifi, not in room, not in cafe below

Review 63:Very friendly staff, very clean and comfortable room, nice shower and some sea views (2nd floor). It was low season but we've heard no street noise. Location is excellent, walkable distance to the harbor and old village. Also well placed to visit Nice, Eze, etc. Paid parking nearby, not expensive.

Review 64:A big of a long haul from the sea front lots of steps not suitable if you have difficulty with walking

Review 65:Lovely location value for money. Owner and grandson we're welcoming and friendly .

Review 66:Parking - we parked in the nearby public lot. Luckily, we were there on a holiday, otherwise it could have been expensive and annoying to keep feeding the meter. Finding street parking nearby was quite challenging. We had a little trouble finding the place initially; it really does look like a neighborhood bar.

Review 67:location was great; could easily walk to old town and harbor of villefranche for dinner, and we took the bus to Nice from right in front of the hotel. Staff were very friendly and welcoming! Despite the location on the main street, it was not at all noisy, and the accommodations have all been recently updated so the room was lovely.

Review 68:Wifi was not available in our room whilst we were there. Shower head very awkward to use whilst attached to water pipe. No in-room safe

Review 69:Handy location especially for the bus route Train station just a short walk away. Post Office, ATM, Mini-mart & patisserie very close by. Views of the bay from our room no 9 Friendliness of Betty & Thierry - felt like "family" Wifi availability-but was limited to the bar area whilst we were there. Very affordable accommodation price.VG value for money & I've rated my "points" accordingly, as per the tariff. Good prices for wine/beer/cappuccinos/tea. Good wardrobe storage & lighting Large bathroom mirror and bench area & lots of shelf storage. Reverse-cycle aircon. Cosy atmosphere of the bar. Weekend markets directly opposite the hotel. Close to a couple of VG cafe/restaurants,particularly "La Roxy". Loved being part of a "village" life with its everyday comings & goings in the bar/cafe area and the warm vibrant atmosphere! Would DEFINITELY stay here again & recommend the hotel!

Review 70:I was traveling to Cannes on business and wanted to stay a few extra days in the area before flying home. It was off season, so many restaurants and shops were closed, but the staff at La Regence made my stay warm and comfortable. This hotel is less than a 5 min walk from old town and a great value for the price. I will stay there again on my next visit.

Review 71:Nevertheless, wifi was very difficult to connect, till the point we gave up this facility. Since the hotel is directly on the main road, on Basse Corniche and the way to Monaco and Italy, traffic in the night, especially in the weekend, is really intense. Soundproof window panes would be substantial.

Review 72:Managers and personnel in La Régence Chez Betty have been friendly and helpful with us. The hotel is at a walk distance from the village historical center and placed so is very easy to find it on the Basse Corniche. The inside and rooms have been renewed as to make it very confortable. Bathroom was specially nice as it was brand new.

Review 73:Has a great locals feel and non touristy. Made to feel very welcome and nothin was to much trouble. Wifi was a bit of a struggle as could only get it in a certain part of the bar but other than that no faults. Great central location for the beach and to wander around the gorgeous streets of villefranche

Review 74:No TV in the room, very little toiletries provided, towels looked kind of worn out.

Review 75:Renovated hotel, steps from the bus stations to Riviera. Decent and clean room, good value for the money.

Review 76:Lots of street noise but closing window eliminated

Review 77:Location near market, close to water Betty, Theirry and all the staff were very accommodating and friendly Very quiet and comfortable air con

Review 78:No matter how many times I tried the wifi, either in the room or in the lobby/cafe, it did not work. That was my only issue.

Review 79:Theirry & Betty (the owners) are incredibly helpful and genuinely nice. Room #2 was clean, comfortable, and I could tell that it had recently been renovated. The bed was super comfortable and the water in the shower nice and hot. Supplies were replenished daily. The location is right across the street from the bus stop, Octroi. What could be easier?

Review 80:Very personal meeting from staff in the bar. Tiny hotel with few rooms. Very fresh and nicely furnished. AC on the room (which got me a cold though... its posibble and easy to adjust the temp. Easy to find in the middle of the upper center entering by car from west. Nice with tables outside on the pavement to have a glass wine and watch people. Close to free parking. The place is kinda historic so it was fun to see old pictures on the walls from the good old days :-)

Review 81:Located on main road / junction which is very busy during the day ( be careful crossing the roads & use the pedestrian crossings ! ) Quieter on a night & windows double glazed so no noise problem in the room. Parking was a pain, we parked in nearby public car park when we arrived but 1euro 40 per hour & 3 hour max stay, free between 7pm & 9am though. We were told it was free in streets behind the hotel which is where I ended up moving the car to but not many spaces & when I found one it was quite a walk back. As we were leaving early am I just moved the car back to the public car park across the road at 5pm & paid for 2 hours. Unable to shower without door leaking due to missing seals so had to put towel down.

Review 82:Location is really handy for shops, restaurants & harbour without paying the prices the harbour front hotels charge. Room 8 has a balcony & you can see the sea ( just ) from the room. Breakfast was reasonable value. Staff helpful although some only speak French ( to be expected when staying in France & we got by ok ) Very friendly. Stayed 2 nights.

Review 83:Can be noisy if windows are left open in the bedroom.

Review 84:This Hotel and fabulous bar is looked after by Betty who appears to be a local legend. She knew everyone who came in to the place made visitors extremely welcome. Her son Thierry who now seems to look after the business is equally nice is eager to help out whenever needed. The room on the first floor was stylish snd spotless. The coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and croissant in the morning is well worth the 6 euros. Bedroom overlooking the busy street at the front of the property had double glazing and air-con which made for a good nights sleep.

Review 85:Would be helpful to have a list of what nos are which channels on the television-- can't see one in our room

Review 86:Excellent location near old town and close to restaurants, helpful staff, good breakfast

Review 87:Thierry and Betty were so kind and lovely to us (especially our 2 year old daughter Alice who loved them!). I have never been made to feel so welcome anywhere before and would definately recommend/return

Review 88:Only that i didn't have more time there :)

Review 89:The owner is super friendly, the room was clean and new, and long story short, i checked in two hours after the posted time but they were relaxed about it.

Review 90:A bit noisy at night time if your window faces the street. Weak wi-fi on the second floor. Room needed vapoor cleaning. No elevator.

Review 91:Lovely welcoming and helpful staff, nice interior, beautiful bed linen, everything new and in excellent condition, good location.

Review 92:Little bit noisy in the early night and mornings and close to busy street but slept great. The weekend staff lady didn't speak any English but everything worked out fine.

Review 93:Staff was great. Location was just a short walk from the harbor streets where the action is. Also very close to bus stations to get you anywhere you want to go. Very clean and nice and price was right for the area.

Review 94:very nice rooms (are not too big though) very friendly owners/family great location in the middle of the town (no hotel parking available but plenty of parking spaces around

Review 95:The advertised wifi did not work at all. The 7 euro breakfast was anorange juice, a croissant and a small coffee could have been a bitbetter value. There were no ac instructions and it was very hot when westayed. The shower, although lots of pressure was small and water wenteverywhere all over the bathroom floor.

Review 96:Location was very convenient and the room was clean. Bed was comfy.

Review 97:bar is down stairs, so to get to hotel you need to go through the bar. Stuff don't have the patience if you don't skeak French, Wifi not in the rooms only at the bar.

Review 98:cute area, cute room with AC

Review 99:The bed was nice but only a thin sheet to keep you warm, could have put a thicker blanket in the room as an option. The road is noisy! Be prepared to hear motorbikes racing by up until midnight. The breakfast for 7€ is expensive, coffee, croissant, and orange juice. However there are many shops around the hotel, so on the second day we brought our own food and eat it in the park. The WiFi didn't work, we used the tourist info as its opposite.

Review 100:Betty and her family are really warm people, Betty is some kind of celebrity by the locals it seems. The hotel is great, we had a nice view of the sea. The location is excellent as its not so touristy and has a nice village feeling, and the touristy area is still walking distance. The room had good air conditioning. Pizza place next to hotel is great!

Review 101:The only negatives about this hotel are that the room was a bit warm (it does not have air conditioning and it was August) and the street is a bit noisy with constant traffic. No other negatives.

Review 102:Betty, Thierry and the other staff were very friendly. They were helpful regarding my luggage that was lost by the airline (it was delivered to the hotel that night). The cafe/bar is cute and comfortable. They also let me leave my luggage there after checking out until I was able to transport it to my apartment the next afternoon. The room was decorated very nicely and was clean and comfortable. A convenient location (although somewhat noisy). Overall, a very positive experience.

Review 103:Right on the road which was very busy and noisy. Sitting outside not very relaxing with traffic fumes. Room size cramped but perfectly adequate

Review 104:View from room, very close to bus, markets and the historic sites. Staff friendly and helpful. Room clean and air conditioned. Authentic atmosphere and wlecoming

Review 105:Some nasty spots on the sheets.

Review 106:Good bed, air conditioning, nice bar/cafe, lovely granny at the bar/reception. The location is goog by the main street of the village. Bus stop just on the next corner. Restaurants at the harbour near. The athmospere of the village.

Review 107:Impossible not to like something of this place

Review 108:Everything! We are absolutelly in love with this place The owners are lovely, always attentive and willing to make the most of your stay. The bedrooms are large, clean, comfortable, and newly renovated in Provencal style. Breakfast highly recommended. Is very closed to Villefranche beach, and 10 minutes by car/bus to Monaco or Nize. Many delicious restaurants nerby. We intend to come back as many times as possible :)

Review 109:Very noisy street out front, meant we could not leave window open at night. AC not sufficient to cool in upper story rooms. Noise from the bar at night. Location was very far uphill from old town. Busy street out front made for dangerous crossing to restaurants, stores.

Review 110:Staff was very friendly and helpful. View of the ocean from our room. Nicely decorated.

Review 111:- No balcony - It would be great if there was more space in the bathroom/room to dry your clothes after the beach.

Review 112:- The location of the hotel is really good. 10 minutes walk from the main town and the beach itself. - Really clean and nicely decorated rooms. Very home-y and welcoming atmosphere. Lovely view of the sea and the town -Instead of lobby, there is a small bar downstairs - quite a local experience!

Review 113:Didn't bother us tbh and villefranche is hilly anyway but it does sit at top of town so it is a bit of a walk if you struggle but we were fine 10 mins waterfront to hotel.

Review 114:Location was bustling with people/locals, great to have a drink on front before we went out and a nightcap on way in. Room was on the front and we could see the sea, smell the patisserie beautiful. Close the window and the room was silent great value for money.

Review 115:It can be a bit noisy with the bar below (especially during a sports event). We were there during the World Cup, so the bar was noisy. Also, it is situated on a busy street.

Review 116:Nice location. Terry is awesome! Bar below is convenient and inexpensive. Room very clean.

Review 117:Breakfast was just croissant/coffee/juice in bar, which didn't seem great value so we just ate out nearby. Parking very difficult in V-sur-Mer, but hotel staff advised me where I could park free nearby up a hill.

Review 118:Very friendly traditional bar/hotel. Excellent location in town.

Review 119:Nothing not to like. Road is a bit busy at times but that's not the proprietors fault.

Review 120:Friendly and unpretentious. Cleanliness and nice bar with late snacks available.

Review 121:Shower head was not connected to the wall so water ran everywhere. Floor was dusty.

Review 122:Location was ideal for busses and walk into town. Bar downstairs was like TV Cheers programme; friendly & full of locals. Good value and would stay again. Air con was good. Shutters were quaint and authentic. Bathroom except shower was nice

Review 123:only one thing, the floors in particular the bathroom the only time I think were swept was with my socks.... that said this wouldn't deter me from going back but felt I should mention

Review 124:loved the staff, loved the ambience of the cafe/hotel style, mixing with the locals, Thierry was a fantastic host and Betty was such a hoot what a character - if we visit Villefranche again wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Review 125:Very friendly hosts. Bedrooms comfortable, a little noisy with windows open, once shut noise was minimal. Good relaxed location very close to Monanco and Nice.

Review 126:Excellent staff, get family feel.

Review 127:I would like better lighting in the washroom.

Review 128:Excellent location and very clean.

Review 129:The shower head in the two different rooms I occupied were both broken.

Review 130:Staff were helpful and friendly. For my needs the location was good.

Review 131:Excellent location, friendly staff
