Reviews for Riverside Guest House

Review 1:Great location, friendly staff, good value, clean and comfortable. A marked contrast to the MJB hotels which are a blight on this fine city and should be removed from Booking.com.

Review 2:However... Our room had a massive crack down the wall. the window which faced the smoking area did not close, which for non smokers is not pleasant, luckily we were out until the early hours, so this wasn't a huge issue.

Review 3:The hotel is in a great location, and extremely affordable. The breakfast was freshly cooked and lovely.

Review 4:Really liked the location of the Riverside hotel, but the most important of all was the warm welcoming of all the staff. Excellent approach also from the girls that served the breakfast. Thank you so much!

Review 5:Small attic room, up very steep stairs. Old, dirty sheets, uncomfortable beds, a sock over the smoke alarm! No fire escape. Breakfast in a small room, cramming guests in, very poor facilities and cold fry up. Only stayed one miserable night and booked into Premier inn, I did get one nights refund from Riverside, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 6:The location was a few minutes walk from the city centre.

Review 7:Breakfasts awful - cancelled sunday breakfast - all fat - foreign staffdidnt understand what we wanted. Dining room too small and smelled

Review 8:It was clean

Review 9:The paper thin, uninsulated, walls that made the adjoining neighbours sound as if they were talking in my room!! No real privacy.

Review 10:The very nice manager who let me check in early.

Review 11:Very friendly reception. Be aware that the breakfast room is tiny - only room for three tables. We were asked to come down early, but didn't (and expected to miss out), but in fact there *was* room, and we had an excellent cooked breakfast even though it was just after the deadline (10 am).

Review 12:Very noisy room both from traffic, staff and guests. Sound travels very easily in early hours. En suite needed attention as shower did not flow away but washbasin drained away even with plug in. A bit of a language barrier at reception on check in.

Review 13:Location

Review 14:Place was a few minutes from the train station, and when I arrived they asked the types of things I may want to see in Norwich and gave me advice. The bed was comfortable.

Review 15:Not acceptable to walk up the street in order to have breakfast. The tables at restaurant sat only 2 people, the smoking area was right outside the eating area. the breakfast was kept warm in a microwave, poor quality of food

Review 16:If you stay in any room on the ground floor, you'll find that it's very noisy particularly early morning as its next to the kitchen. I stayed with my friend but we couldn't sleep well because of road traffic noise.

Review 17:Location is good. 5min walk from the Norwich station. Staff are friendly.

Review 18:Had booked a standard double back in May for a Dec stay. Got a really small attic room in the annex down the road with an uncomfortable double bed shoe-horned into the room against the wall, in the eaves with restrictive ceiling height. Large skylight window had no blind and was draughty; small en-suite had nowhere to hang towels. Can't believe this was a standard double. All parking permits had gone. Free Wi-Fi hopelessly slow. Didn't feel inclined to book or try breakfast. Glad it was only for one night. It was not as if we booked last minute.

Review 19:Walkable location for centre of Norwich.

Review 20:Only the shower took ages to drain and no one told me about the room sign as to whether or not I wanted it cleaned during my stay,

Review 21:I found the Guest House very clean and with friendly staff and happy guests. The cooked breakfast cooked by the friendly Hungarian chef was delicious. I also liked even though I had to vacate the room by 10.30am I could leave my suitcase and perishable food in the fridge at the Guest House until later because my train wasn't until the afternoon. Also the staff helped me carry my suitcase in and out of the building. I was very happy with my stay.

Review 22:I had to keep asking for supplies like shampoo and conditioner to be left in the room when it was being cleaned.

Review 23:The staff was very friendly and the location of the place was excellent. The English breakfast was superb.

Review 24:- Very erratic Wifi - Tea mugs not replaced/cleaned for second day - Noisy room (next to main road and other residents talking loud on phone at 6am!)

Review 25:- Great location - Friendly staff

Review 26:The beds in the twin room were very narrow, and I almost fell out on a couple of occasions when turning over in bed

Review 27:The location of the hotel was good, with the station only a couple of minutes walk away

Review 28:Parking on a steep hill! That's all and that's a very minor issue!

Review 29:Close to the city centre and and very near the Riverside Complex! Ideal for everyone!

Review 30:the steep steps to the front. breakfast was a little haphazard for there were no instructions how to serve yourself before you received your full english breakfast, which was excellent .

Review 31:very handy to the city and places to eat

Review 32:I would have liked to be able to have yoghurt, fruit and musli for breakfast.

Review 33:The chef/morning receptionist was a very helpful, professional and amenable man.

Review 34:Door bell didn't seem to work so needed to phone to be let in. The sign was not easy to spot in the dark!

Review 35:Good value. Arrived late but that didn't seem a problem.Good location

Review 36:I'm not living there.

Review 37:Staff was professional and helpful. Bathroom with that shower cabin amazing all super clean and Everything else was sweet. Highly recommended. A+++++

Review 38:Very strong smell of fabric conditioner on all bedding and towels. Staff member needed attention to personal hygiene (not pleasant). Our room had lots of road noise (and we had requested a quiet room). Bit hostel-like. Parking was ok with a ore-booked permit, but only on the street.

Review 39:Clean room. friendly staff. Reasonable price.

Review 40:No problems

Review 41:Spotlessly clean. Superb shower. Friendly staff. Good location and for £45 you can't go wrong. Ignore any poor reviews on this one - some people expect too much for too little.

Review 42:The hotel was really nice, the facilities were very good and the staff were friendly and very engaging with my friends, they would definitely stay again. The room was immaculately clean. The breakfast was excellent for a B&B.

Review 43:Not very well designed room (bedside light switch on floor) and no comfortable chair. Had to ask for towels and there were no toiletries or soap. The breakfast room was cramped, dark and depressing. Kettle in room didn't work.

Review 44:Location. Helpful receptionist.

Review 45:Was not told about where breakfast were, and didn't find out until sunday afternoon. Cleaning lady did not knock on the door before coming into the room.

Review 46:Room was small, but nice and clean.

Review 47:My 'superior' room was in the attic of an annex. The velum window had no blind. It was poky and there was barely enough room for the bag I manhandled up three flights of stairs. The breakfast room was cramped, and almost windowless.

Review 48:It is a short walk from the station and across the river from the clubby part of the city centre.

Review 49:I was a bit disappointed that there was not a proper sink in the bath room, it was on top of the toilet! This meant making a mess when washing my hands and having to brush my teeth in the shower as leaning over the toilet was not ideal.

Review 50:Comfy bed, slept very well. Very clean.

Review 51:Breakfast okay for price. Busy road, but didn't bother us.

Review 52:Great hotel and staff- very welcoming and accomondating. Lovely room- we were in the separate building of Aspland House (just around the corner) which had just been refurbished to a very high standard. Room very comfortable, power shower was great. Nice view of river and cathedral, 2 mins from station.

Review 53:The breakfast room was dire. Tiny little area which was accessed through the outdoor covered area. Little dude kitchenette where yup has to make your own drink, etc. breakfast had been made earlier and microwaved. The eggs had gone like leather on top. Couldn't eat mine. There were no other areas to the hotel and it was so noisy. The next door room must have been for staff, and the occupant got up about 5am and their shower sounded like it was against our wall.

Review 54:The room was clean and recently refurbished. Receptionist was nice

Review 55:Lady at reception wasn't too helpful to start with, but after reasoning with her the manager came out instead. A bit noisy as the nightclub strip is only down the road and the breakfast room directly downstairs

Review 56:Room was modern, comfortable and clean

Review 57:Booked a permit when I arrived was told no permits left. There were no parking spaces near the B&B. A local hotel up the road let us park there with a donation. Heating in room wasn't working was cold all night

Review 58:Staff were friendly and close to restaurants and shops

Review 59:Dreaded 2nd night in hard, uncomfortable " double" bed ( 2 singles pushed together, wife side against wall).Resulting in back pain. £5 reserved parking non-existent as they ran out of permits. Not that they cared. Result £20 multi-storey. Tiny room. Plastic bath with shower & orange mold. Miniature basin over toilet lid. No room safe.

Review 60:Location; short walk into town, close to train station and lots of eating places. Despite the hotel being located to other hotels, on same street, located in a residential area where it's all unsecured on street parking ( jammed pack). Best thing about hotel itself was leaving it!

Review 61:Our double room was very small and a little cramped (One side of the bed was against the wall) This was fine for a single night's stay.

Review 62:Good location, friendly staff. Good value (breakfast was £4 extra each - but this was very reasonable too) Clean and comfortable.

Review 63:There was a skylight in our room which let in a lot of noise and there wasn't a blind so it let a lot of light in in the morning.

Review 64:Great location, nice and clean, modern room and a friendly welcome.

Review 65:The steep steps to the front door.

Review 66:We were welcomed by Chris and he and all the staff made us feel very welcome. They were delightful. We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment on that. (The chef was delightful.)

Review 67:I was in the annex, a couple of minutes walk down the road from the main hotel. The room was small (but then it was billed as a 'small double') but fine for me on my own. The room was quiet, and comfy.

Review 68:For 2 nights we stayed here and it was such a comfortable stay, got such a good sleep and in the room was everything you needed. The shower was also amazing. Is in a great location and could see the canal. Very good price and good price for the breakfast.

Review 69:Room offered incredibly small . Had to change to one with more facilities Needed two bedside tables and towel rail in bathroom

Review 70:Warmth of room and young staff Good modern shower

Review 71:It was very small and cramped could only just do my yoga in the mornings. the wi-fi was off more than it was on, on the second night.

Review 72:nothing exceptional, just a basic place to sleep.

Review 73:I arrived clutching my booking/reservation as was told that I was, in fact, staying in another guest house just up the road. Not a big deal as the alternative was perfectly adequate but a funny way to conduct business. Wasn't too keen on being offered a parking permit for £5.00 when there is free parking immediately outside either!

Review 74:Room was smaller than I imagined but I did book a single knowing I would not spend much too me in room

Review 75:Staff were friendly and unobtrusive. Room was small but clean with tea making facilities. Nice shower

Review 76:Expected a hairdryer in room as the booking.com site said there would be one and by the time I noticed there wasn't one it was too late to ask!! Single room quite compact but every effort had been made to make it as comfortable as possible. I would stay again for overnight stays.

Review 77:Owner and staff really friendly, helpful and accomodating

Review 78:My bathroom shower had a leakage. Anytime I had my shower the whole place gets wet.

Review 79:Friendly staff, good location and good breakfast bed was very comfortable as well

Review 80:Twin-bedded room was simply two small for two adults. No hanging or storage space. Good job it was simply a base to return to at night.

Review 81:Very convenient for Norwich Railway Station. We were touring Norfolk/ Norwich by rail. The quality of the bedding and bathroom facilities (recently upgraded) was good. Good breakfast served in modest surroundings. Staff helpful and couretous. Shame about the size of room.

Review 82:Wish there was a light and a little shelf for glasses, alarm etc by the bed. Very steep stairs to top floor, so would have been difficult with a big suitcase.

Review 83:Despite being a small single room it had a good modern bathroom, comfortable bed and all the little extras expected from a much more expensive room. Comfortable temperature and great location.

Review 84:Room in one building, breakfast a 2 min walk to another property, bed linen not ironed. Automated reminder to shut door every time someone came in through front door.

Review 85:Polite friendly staff, central location, en suite

Review 86:Minor mix up with room but resolved instantly.

Review 87:Everyone was really nice and polite, the chef seemed to do a lot as he was doing good and dealing with customers at the office so would really like some recognition to go to that man.

Review 88:Spotlessly clean, magnificent power shower, just a few minutes from the rail station. Polite, friendly staff. The chef is excellent, welcoming, cheerful and works very hard producing great breakfasts continuously.

Review 89:Our room faced the courtyard which is where people smoked so our room would smell of cigarettes periodically if we left the window open (which we did as it was a warm night). Were also woken up by people talking in the courtyard but again, could have closed the window.

Review 90:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The place itself had all the amenities of a hotel but was very homey. The breakfast was yummy. The rooms were very well soundproofed.

Review 91:did not like any thing about this hotel. breakfast time a complete joke. the staff apauling. not evan stayed at the same hotel where booked in at took us down the road. To use the bathroom we had to get them to unlok the door. the hotel is an utter joke and need its doors closing and and all staff training in how to run a hotel. room booked(double luxary) not what we got more of a single room tiny and cramped. breakfast was served before i evan sat down and then microwaved discusting...

Review 92:We had to cross the kitchen to get to the small dining room which was OK but seemed a bit strange! Don't think the breakfast was freshly cooked.

Review 93:Room was very clean and comfortable, though we were on the ground floor and the road was very busy and a bit noisy.

Review 94:There was no-one who had any real responisbility there. If there was a problem then in the morning then the lovely man who was cooking breakfast (and who was clearly underpaid for his job) was having to deal with everything. I had the feeling that lots of people were being used for someone who was taking no responisibility and sucking up all the money.

Review 95:The staff were really lovely. Room was clean.

Review 96:The wifi sometimes failed to work within the room, but worked well downstairs in the reception area.

Review 97:Very handy to the station, but is on a moderately busy road. Fortunately we had a room (number 4) that was at the back of the property, so noise was far less of an issue. Breakfast (full English cooked) was good.

Review 98:Rooms minuscule, parking £5 a day, very noisy when local clubs closed (4am) room much too hot and couldn't turn down heating, dare not leave a window open due to location.

Review 99:Location, cleanliness

Review 100:Unable to lock window with flat roof below so didn't feel very secure. Sink in toilet cystern was a bit odd! I would skip breakfast if I was to stay again.

Review 101:Clean throughout and good location for city centre and riverside

Review 102:Breakfast below par 9n menu said eggs to your choice but 9nly had option of fried, they were solid and we'll overcooked

Review 103:A lot work has been done to the rooms almost budget botique much better than I would have expected

Review 104:Room is very small. The sink is a super small one which we could hardly use for brushing our teeth without having the water flashing onto the floor.

Review 105:Walking distance to Train station and nearby restaurants.

Review 106:There was a fair bit of traffic noise. No variety at all in English breakfast.

Review 107:Close to train station, within easy walking distance of castle and cathedral. Pleasant walking paths along river.

Review 108:Staff were very accommodating and helpful. The room was simple and clean as was the en-suite bathroom. Good place to stay for a night or two when out on business.

Review 109:We had a ground floor room which was near the front door so the noise from inconsiderate bellends at 02:00 in the morning and later was a disappointment these idiots should not need reminding and it's not really the fault of the establishment.

Review 110:Excellent location, friendly staff and clean room.

Review 111:The bedroom was quite small, nice size bed but not a lot of room to move around and put clothes

Review 112:The location, good for buses, also for walks, and shops

Review 113:Breakfast eating area, very small on suite and bedroom, if window open smell from smoking area below window. Had to ask reception for hairdryer which should have been in the room

Review 114:Proximity to city centre, friendly welcome from lady on reception & especially Tibor the breakfast chef. Easy walk into city centre.

Review 115:Not the fault of the hotel, but noisy guests came in about 1.30 am and others about 3.30 am. Rather cramped room and no room for a chair.

Review 116:Near Station and only ten minutes walk from city centre. Very comfortable bed. Nice to walk by the river en route to city centre.

Review 117:The Staff were exceedingly good, facilities perhaps could need a little updating, but it was very clean and they went 'out of their ' way to assist me with my disabilities. Enjoyed my stay.

Review 118:There was no table or desk upon which to write. The pillows smelled of perfume or cologne. What was this intended to hide? The fitted sheets did not fit and so in the morning they were all tangled up. There was no upper sheet between me and the quilt.

Review 119:It is fairly well located. Close to the railway station and about a fifteen minute walk from the centre of town. Plenty of hot water.

Review 120:The fact that you had to make your own tea at breakfast, and toast was just put on the table not on a plate

Review 121:Everything was brilliant especially the showers

Review 122:Despite ringing ahead and saying I would be arriving early but would only require a parking permit, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Bed had dirty, stained sheets that I had to ask to be changed. Bed was awful and creaked every time I moved so I was awake from 4am. If there was a fire you wouldn't stand a chance in the top rooms and even if you did you would probably kill yourself falling down the stairs. Whole place is grubby.

Review 123:I liked leaving.

Review 124:The hotel was very easy to access from the train station. The staff was very nice, and the room and facilities were fine for our stay. The breakfast was good, and a fair price. The rooms were small, but cozy, comfortable and quite. We slept well.

Review 125:Not easy to find Toilet - unable to stand up without banging head. £5 to park car in the street! No breakfast before 7.30am Small room

Review 126:Location - close to station

Review 127:Booking dot com needs any easy way to leave a message to cancel

Review 128:I have stayed here before but wasn't able to this time as I was in hospital and unable to cancel and when my daughter tried there was no reply on the phone. I would however stay here again

Review 129:Noise. As I was allocated in the double room downstairs, I had to bear with the door bell ringing at 11pm at night,it was a bit disturbing when you have an early start at 6. The front room next to the road, the noise is Ok.

Review 130:Nice location, very close to station, the river view is very nice.

Review 131:Brilliant location 2 minutes walk from the station, 10 mins from City Centre. All the staff were very friendly. Good breakfast well cooked. Parking okay, wifi good. Would stay there again.

Review 132:window in attic room could do with a blind, and somehow try to block the noise out from riverside road.

Review 133:Location was excellent and staff very friendly. Room very clean

Review 134:I am a light sleeper and I found the traffic noise too much and then Friday night youngsters on their way home from the clubs kept me awake for most of the night.

Review 135:Friendly staff and reasonably priced breakfast.
