Reviews for Innkeeper's Lodge Castleton, Peak District

Review 1:I had to send a meal back as the fish I ordered wasn't cooked properly, however, the cost of the meal was taken off the bill.

Review 2:stayed many times at the Castle, pub and location are great

Review 3:Weather could have been better.

Review 4:Great location., fantastic Christmas lunch, we've been coming here a long time so know what w're going to get, especially the room.

Review 5:Liked it all.

Review 6:The hotel and staff were very pleasant and helpful and it was decorated for Christmas. This us the second time we have been, it is the start of our Christmas!l

Review 7:Could maybe have a new coat of paint as starting to look a touch tired but other than that a great place to stay.

Review 8:Loved the location and would stay in future

Review 9:N/A

Review 10:We stayed in the pevril room and it was amazing. So spacious, clean and luxurious with a huge bathroom. The staff couldn't be more helpful. And the food in the restaurant was beautiful.

Review 11:Room was cold but ok when we put fan heater on. The water wasn't that hot, will stay somewhere else next year

Review 12:Lovely room but needed to ask for an extra duvet as it was a little cold

Review 13:When we went down for breakfast there was no one to great us and tell us about what optiones were available. We did see one member of staff who brought in a cooked breakfast for another customer however never came over to ask if we required anything so we were left wirh tea and toast

Review 14:The toaster which is minor I know but everyone had one side burnt and the other side not toasted.

Review 15:We have stayed before as a Christmas treat and love the festive feel. Cosy rooms and friendly staff will mean another trip next year.

Review 16:Evening Meal on Saturday night the service was slow. However it was a very busy night due to the Christmas Concerts in the Peak Cavern having started that evening.

Review 17:The Central Location in Castleton

Review 18:Nothing major- but surprised to be given a cup of hot water and a tea bag to dunk in it when I ordered a tea!

Review 19:Lovely welcoming fires on a cold day. Spacious room and good pub food.

Review 20:Shortage of staff in bar having to wait for service. Inexperienced bar staff .I am a publican . Drinks in wrong glass & real ale not pulled or served correctly.

Review 21:Nice room good location

Review 22:Mattress was very uncomfortable, springs poking us on hips and shoulders all night.

Review 23:Everything apart from our mattress. Staff were amazingly helpful, friendly, and professional. Location was ideal for walks and exploring the area, the bathtub was huge (a personal plus for me as a bath-lover) and the food was the best in the village!

Review 24:This is our third stay here this year and numerous stays over the years. We really enjoy the atmosphere, comfort and location. The staff are friendly and very helpful and fun to boot. What more could you ask for.

Review 25:As hotel were advertising for chef on many of the nights dinner bookings were for residents only. So restaurant was usually very quiet.

Review 26:Loved the location perfect for peak district

Review 27:Wifi was unfortunately almost not available in our room.

Review 28:The hotel was very centrally located within very easy access to Peveril Castle. Speedwell Cavern is a short walk away while Blue John Cavern was a short drive away. There are also several pubs around which served very value for money meals.

Review 29:Apart from the lady who cleaned our room who was lovely, the majority of staff lacked enthusiasm. Each day there were items unavailable including, chicken pie, butter, hash browns and baked beans. The quality of food from the evening menu in our opinion was very poor, we ate in different pubs after the first night. Would have been good to have a tray or mat to leave muddy, wet boots on instead of having to put them on the carpet in the room.

Review 30:Great location. Came here on a walking holiday and there are fantastic walks straight from the door. Our room was lovely, warm, comfortable and very clean.

Review 31:the mattresses in the rooms were awful, lumpy and we could feel the springs. In the evening we wanted a drink in our hotel bar but there are only two tables, three sections of the hotel are for diners and even though they were empty we were not allowed to use the tables. We had to sit outside and it was freezing.

Review 32:the location was great

Review 33:For £100 per night I would expect a cooked breakfast without having to pay an extra £6.99 each, to upgrade from the the continental buffet!

Review 34:Great location and friendly staff

Review 35:Room in annexe dark and no heating in bathroom. People moving about normally upstairs sounded like they were coming through the ceiling. Provided an alternative room without argument. No cooked breakfast included.

Review 36:Staff friendly and helpful. Evening food good value.

Review 37:The wood panelling around the bedroom was splashed with tea or coffee and a lot of dust on them. Also the bathroom skirting boards were dusty and the floor was clean but there was ground in dirt in the tiles. Also I feel that a full English breakfast should be incorporated in the price as all the other pubs/accommodations supplied this and for a lower cost.

Review 38:central location, friendly staff and evening meal was beautiful.

Review 39:Wifi not working, spiders in the room, very squeaky floor in the room on the first floor - make you unconfortable to move around as ther are people sleeping underneath you!

Review 40:Lovely location! Small car park and excelent pub but short staffed!

Review 41:The greeting was poor, the first words spoken to us were " thats £70" and were spoken to abruptly and rudely Rhe girl in breakfasts was unfriendly and unhelpful and barley spoke

Review 42:The continental breakfast was nice

Review 43:The location was perfect with perveril castle and peak cavern only a short walk away. We were conveniently located near plenty of pubs, independent shops and cafes/bakeries. The hotel itself is connected to a pub so if you don't fancy going far you can just go downstairs to eat. The food is lovely and I heartily recommend pie night on a Wednesday. The staff were friendly and our room was comfortable with beams which added to the charm. We'll definitely be visiting again soon.

Review 44:Couldnt get the wifi to work But to be fair, I didnt make that much effort or ask the staff, as didnt seem to be that important when out in the country..

Review 45:Great location Very nice pub hotel

Review 46:Breakfast was supposed to be served until 10.00am, we went in at 9.40 Friday morning and despite the signs saying breakfast until 10.00 the girl said doesn't apply on Friday. She was not very friendly. Staff behind bar were not very attentive, talking amongst themselves.

Review 47:It would help if there were communication between Booking.com & the hotel. We had a small problem with the booking. As the rooms booked showed up identical on the website we assumed they would be together, not the case. Arriving back one evening there was no parking place & upon inquiry of this this were told we could use the Pay & Display down the road. Completely unacceptable & the staff were no help at all.

Review 48:A quiet leisurely retreat, accessible.

Review 49:No internet connection Could feel the springs in the bed Clock outside strikes every 15 minutes!! Limited parking Cobwebs in the room and found t-shirts behind the bed from previous guests

Review 50:Nice large room Great spacious bathroom with good shower pressure Fantastic location - (although town is small so any where you stay is great location) Restaurant / bar area has a great atmosphere - best in town

Review 51:We decided on sirloin steak for our meal but think it was more like rump. Our 1st choice wine was out of stock and it's replacement had not been in the fridge for very long.

Review 52:The room (11) had great character and at the same time was very well appointed. The staff were v.friendly and helpful , once they had the time to deal with you, ..could do with a little more help behind the bar and in the resteraunt.

Review 53:The drinks where very expensive and the bed was very small for a double but it was comfortable.

Review 54:The staff and room where lovely. The location of the Hotel is ideal as you can get to all the places easily.

Review 55:The food service and menu was poor, with lots of food on the menu not available, including most of the items on the cooked breakfast menu, from one day to the next. Staffing issues daily too!

Review 56:Location was great, as was the room.

Review 57:Bed was very hard we were in a bottom room and could heat every movement in room above very noisy floor boards seemed to be waiting a long time for service in pub for drinks very little staff available could do with more staff to cater for guests when booking in not a very friendly welcome when u first arrive expected a warm reception

Review 58:Breakfast was lovely and food was great shower was fantastic room very big and spacious friendly staff location brilliant for all facilities in Castleton would stay again

Review 59:We had gone for my partners 50th birthday, the staff were informed of this, didn't even get a free drink or anything special

Review 60:The location is excellent for all the attractions around castleton

Review 61:Terrible staff and terrible food in the restaurant downstairs. We had to wait 1 hour to get our food and it was not very good either!

Review 62:Good location for exploring Peak District.

Review 63:Staff were great but they need help. Need more staff on as most of the time there was only one or two staff members to man the bar as well as welcome and check in new guests. Let the hotel down sadly

Review 64:Staff were helpful despite bring run off their feet

Review 65:Wifi didn't work in the room and the shower wasn't very powerful.

Review 66:Great location, great parking and fab staff - but they were rushed off their feet.

Review 67:Our evening meal was a little disappointing and didn't live up to the description on the menu. Our bed and pillows were rather uncomfortable.

Review 68:The location of the hotel was great with wonderful views. The decor and size of the room was lovely. The buffet breakfast was very good and we didn't need to upgrade to a cooked breakfast.

Review 69:we requested non- feather pillows when we booked. Eventually the manager discovered 2 for us, we think they should have done better. We were down for breakfast promptly and they were running low on some things for a cooked breakfast.

Review 70:Good size bedroom and bathroom. Lovely view.

Review 71:Unwelcoming staff who didn't seem happy to be there. Leaky shower that flooded the bathroom. We'd had a hectic weekend and booked this place to relax but we were woken up early by the alarm on the tv coming on and then couldn't get back to sleep because of slamming doors.

Review 72:The location is perfect and set in a lovely village. Nice clean room. We didn't eat but the food we saw looked nice.

Review 73:Our room was on the ground floor and the noise of the floorboards from above was simply ridiculous. The wifi was very weak indeed.

Review 74:Perfect location. Great food. Good range of ales.

Review 75:The room was quite large and roomy and it was nice to spread out a bit after several days on the road. The location was good as well and we were able to drive everywhere easily from it.

Review 76:Dinner was delicious - beer battered halloumi with chips and mushy peas - a vegetarian's dream meal!!! The Breakfast was also great - the croissants were some of the best I've had The room was spacious and comfy

Review 77:We arrived at 2pm and we were turned away because check in was 3pm. No effort was made to check if the room was ready. The WiFi login procedure was long and tedious and the staff were unhelpful in this regard. When we eventually logged on we were required to provide a number of personal details.

Review 78:This pub is in the middle of a charming village in the middle of the Peak District. The room was quite good and very clean, but the service was not quite up to the same standard. The continental breakfast was good. WiFi worked well after we got through the sign-on problems.

Review 79:Female staff attitude (the gent was very pleasant). Refused to provide any early breakfast option on a day we were walking 20 miles in an organised charity event. Basically looked at us coldly and said "breakfast is served at 8"--a computer says "no" type of attitude. For £99 a night I would have expected a box of cereal or a banana left out for us...really not too much trouble, is it?

Review 80:Great pillows Great chips Good sized room

Review 81:Great location in the beautiful village of Castleton very welcoming ladies in the bar. Comfortable bed, lovely room, everything was absolutely perfect. Thank you very much

Review 82:The food was poor and it could do with decorating. Right next to church - chimes every quarter of an hour from 7.15am to 11pm.

Review 83:The staff were very friendly and the room was a good size. The location was very central.

Review 84:Room was dated needed some tlc. mold along back of tiles in bathroom plus a hole all hidden behind shower curtain. For price felt cooked breakfast should be included

Review 85:The staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 86:No wifi, air con available during my stay. No signals on my mobile so couldn't receive or make calls. The staff was very good but limited, they need to hire more people to serve people at the pub and the people staying at their accommodations. Also, breakfast was very basic, toast, tea and cereal.

Review 87:Great location. Good Staff and food.

Review 88:service for dinner was slow. They seemed short-staffed. Also, the family sofa bed wasn't made up (despite booking 6 months in advance!)

Review 89:location, friendly staff

Review 90:Do not eat here!!! The staff are rude, ignorant and incompetent!! Thefood is AWFUL...and overpriced! We were horrified by the managerswearing and staff moaning they wanted to go home! They ruined ourevening! ...Go to the Nags head down the road for your food/drinks!It's fab!

Review 91:The room was lovely, really cosy and clean

Review 92:Wasnt impressed with the food. Prices where very steep for what was a meal warmed up in a microwave. Also, obviously my mistake for not reading the info correctly but having to pay extra for a cooked breakfast didnt please me at all.

Review 93:I was impressed with the quality of the room and the location especially for first time walkers.

Review 94:Road noise very early in morning. Cooked breakfast not included in room rate. Terrible mobile reception and wifi problem as result

Review 95:Good location and good food beer in evenings

Review 96:We requested a twin bedded room but were given a double bed. Told that we could not be moved as the Hotel was full.

Review 97:Central location with the majority of staff very pleasant.

Review 98:Only the fact you couldn't check in until 3pm. We had to lug our bags with us until then due to arriving early.

Review 99:I loved that our roon was an anex so we felt lime we had our own little flat there. Clean and perfectly located with a view of pevril castle.

Review 100:Beautiful surroundings, very friendly staff and locals. Convenient location for exploring both nature and culture with the limestone mines on the doorstep and Chatsworth House nearby.

Review 101:Staff were friendly but did not seem to be enough of them. Had to wait every time at the bar & it took us 20 minutes to check out as there was no one on reception desk. The cleaner assistanted us so that we could leave.

Review 102:Location

Review 103:Cooked breakfast should have been included in the price.had to wait a while at the bar for a drink as only one staff on and was having to take orders for meals as well

Review 104:Staff friendly, nice spacious room, comfortable bed. Near to all attractions, would definitely stay again

Review 105:Pay extra for English breakfast :( continental breakfast free but English starting at several pounds extra. Is Castleton on the continent or are they trying to make a few extra pennies?

Review 106:Bed was uncomfortable, it felt old. Getting in and out of the shower was not easy as sides of bath so high. Creaky floorboards, so was woken in early hours by people in room above. For the price should include a cooked breakfast.

Review 107:Hotel is in a great location. Room in annex was a good size.

Review 108:Didn't like the Service in restaurant in evening. Waiter seemed very disinterested in job and struggled to get served and his attention. Food was very nice though.

Review 109:Room was very modern and clean

Review 110:Mattress was lumpy and not very comfortable. Soap dispenser only so bring your own bath goodies for your soak after a long walk. Continental breakfast was adequate but no cooked breakfast during week and pot porridge not so nice.

Review 111:Everything we needed for a two night stay whilst we walked the Peak District. Big room in annex, great shower AND bath. Comfy and welcoming bar. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Six pubs and other restaurants to eat in - plenty of choice (did not eat at the Castle)

Review 112:The continental breakfast was a little limited- the only fruit available was apples, pears or tinned fruit. The bread was pre sliced.

Review 113:Friendliness of staff and the warmth of the room.

Review 114:Parking spaces a little tight for newer larger cars.

Review 115:Rooms very spacious and comfortable, lovely bed and great shower - not weak or too hot/cold like a lot of smaller places can be. Staff were so friendly and welcoming which helps a lot when you're travelling on your own. Pub is great for an evening meal too - delicious food!

Review 116:I didn't sleep all that well. The bed sloped slightly towards the side so I constantly felt like I was sliding out and there was a skylight with no way to cover it so bright sunlight woke us up very early every morning. Wifi very poor in our room (which was not in the main building).

Review 117:Almost everything was great - brilliant location, lovely room, great staff

Review 118:Disappointed with the choice of continental breakfast and also having to pay for a full English breakfast which was way to costly most B and B in England full English breakfast is included in the room price

Review 119:Bedroom and on suite nice and clean and comfy

Review 120:Parking a bit of a tight squeeze at times, wifI a bit fickle at times, but no major issues

Review 121:Stayed for 4 nights leading up to Easter. Perfectly located for all we wanted to do. Delicious food. Nice buffet style breakfast. Really relaxing time all round

Review 122:No complaints!

Review 123:Perfect spot to relax, eat and drink well. Staff were really friendly. Loved the open fires as we watched the rain lashing down outside!

Review 124:Dinner on Sunday night was not good. OK it was late in the day i.e evening, and we did order the Sunday roast which was possibly best at midday but items were missing and we were not told that they were not available until the meal arrived. The potatoes could hardly have been call roast although they were supposed to be and the parsnips were possibly the worst prepared ones I have ever seen. It was a most unappetising meal which really took the edge off our first night.

Review 125:Good, warm, comfortable room with lots of space. Good breakfast and nice staff

Review 126:Free breakfast pretty basic . Would have been good to have a selection of fresh fruit salds, dried fruits, decent cereals , yoghurts, and good quality preserves.

Review 127:Excellent customer service, loved the fires in all the public rooms, roast meal was fantastic , bedroom comfortable. Great value for money .

Review 128:Unfortunately on our first night they were out of every meal and drink we ordered which was disappointing

Review 129:The room was spacious and comfortable and it's always nice to have coffee making facilities. Breakfast was tasty and had a good selection. Pub attached was reasonably priced.

Review 130:Sofa bed was very uncomfortable, the room was very pretty but exceptionally high ceiling had cobwebs, also one end of the room was very warm and one was very cold.

Review 131:Beautiful location, warm and friendly staff, good food nice sized room.

Review 132:The resturant struggled. I ordered 2 fruit juices off the drinks menu that wasn't stocked. And also ordered a glass of champagne (also on the menu) and was told they didn't sell it by the glass? Steaks had ran out by 7:45 on Saturday night and sausages had ran out on Sunday morning!

Review 133:The hotel was lovely. Room was a good size and the bathroom overlooking the hills had a fantastic view.

Review 134:poor quality toilet roll and uncomfortable pillows not to our liking(may suit others)

Review 135:location and the walking and visiting caverns, plus the bath in the room was fantastic

Review 136:Carpark! would of expected a choice of cooked breakfast and not to have to pay extra for it, as accomadation pricey!

Review 137:Location, friendliness of the staff, nice food, comfy bed!

Review 138:I had dinner here in the evening which I was an underwhelming experience -no one should serve Smash these days! But I understand they are currently looking for a head chef.

Review 139:The room was nicely decorated (no chintz)! The continental breakfast had a good range of choice and served by a nice chirpy lady.

Review 140:I asked for the fire to be re lit as it was going out early Eve and was told they were too busy. The sofa bed was not turned down and although it was offered that staff would do this it was very late so we said we would just do it ourselves. Rooms were clean but dusty.

Review 141:It's in a lovely location
