Reviews for BEST WESTERN Brook Hotel
Review 1:Chipped cup and heating didn't work although staff brought us a heater. Bathroom didn't a refurb.
Review 2:Beds were comfy and room spacious quiet room and staff helpful
Review 3:Electric heater which was dangerous instead of Air Conditioning. Heater not working in bathroom. Draw missing from dressing table and light not working. Pointing out walking disability when booking we were put in room the furthest from reception. No 129
Review 4:Breakfast Good
Review 5:Bathroom was tired and the shower was very poor. Dinner Menu was extremely limited and food was expensive and poor. Bar Menu was even more limited and equally expensive and poor. Breakfast was marginally better but only streaky bacon provided... not a healthy option! Restaurant was barn like and very impersonal. No lift to 1st Floor. No biscuits on the coffee / tea tray in the room.
Review 6:Room was large, airy and comfortable. Reception was very good, friendly and efficient. Checkout was very good with the same care and attention.
Review 7:It is such a run down place. Needs a total refit. Not up to the quality of the other Best Western Hotels we have stayed in. Such a shame.
Review 8:Excellent staff.
Review 9:Heating in room was not controllable Old fashioned 'air con' system on wall that emitted light in the room overnight Staff not as attentive as other BW hotels I have stayed in
Review 10:Close enough for my work
Review 11:unfortunately my daughter slipped in the shower and pulled the shower curtain down to reduce the impact of her fall. She ended up with a bad bruise. Also breakfast was a bit cold.
Review 12:staff and size of room. Choice at buffet breakfast
Review 13:The window opener broke off when used and looks like it has been repaired several times. Room and bathroom looking a bit tired but adequate and comfortable.
Review 14:Excellent that can dog can also stay. Plenty of grab rails in disabled friendly room and easy access on ground floor. Friendly staff.
Review 15:run out of vodka twice on our visit also bitter ran out breakfast was served streaky bacon and first day sausages were soure? at £10 per head we found this unexceptable????
Review 16:the room was clean but heating was very poor
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:We were impressed by everything. The staff, from chef restaurant reception, excellent. Very professional, helpful and friendly. Lovely welcome we were made to feel very comfortable with our dog.
Review 19:Welcoming email offered gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam room. None were available which I felt was misleading advertising. The bar menu had a very sparse selection at 8pm, chef had to prepare a platter of snacks (delicious as it was) but again, this was contrary to expectations.
Review 20:Fixtures are getting worn round the edges! Detail cleanliness in the bathroom borderline. Drinks prices a bit steep !
Review 21:Excellent location. Brilliant bar tender. The room was large and good value for money. Ample parking. Good breakfast.
Review 22:Dinning room needs sofa seats recovering, breakfast isn't worth 9.99 but I got a deal with it included which was much better
Review 23:Friendly staff, opposite a Calvert with play area, large downstairs area if weather bad
Review 24:I was disappointed. The hotel has gradually declined and now seems to be run by an accountant. We paid just under £100 a night for a very cheap breakfast (streaky bacon, tinned mushrooms, unrecognisable beans, prunes and grapefruit) damaged upholstery in the function rooms, a permanently dripping tap in the ensuite and a broken chair. We have used this hotel many times and will now look for somewhere else.
Review 25:The hotel is well positioned, the staff are friendly and the beds comfortable.
Review 26:Rooms a bit dated in need of a revamp. Stayed for a wedding last year and saw the bridal suite which was gorgeous - shame the rest of the hotel doesn't match it for standard.
Review 27:Quiet location despite being next to a busy roundabout. Easy parking Good food nice breakfast friendly staff.
Review 28:No heating in the room and had to use the electric heater. No new toilet paper and plastic bag in bin tied up so room hadn't been adequately cleaned prior to arriving
Review 29:Night staff helpful
Review 30:Corridors are very long and don't appear to have been vacuumed everyday. In complete darkness as you go into each area of the corridor until detectors see you and put on lights, but only in your bit of the corridor Rooms have black out style curtains so very dark with lights off
Review 31:Clean Spacious rooms Quiet Good plentiful Breakfast with attentive staff. easy parking in well lit car park
Review 32:Room too hot. Air conditioning did not work. Shower had extreme, unstable, temperature. from too cold to too hot in seconds. Ceiling in bathroom had mould. cigarette butt on stairs for the duration of stay. For the price, MUCH more expected.
Review 33:Little
Review 34:Bus parties crowding the breakfast room. Heating system was hit and missed often cold when it should have been warm. Stated as an easy access room but difficult to manoeuvre a rollator in the room with little room on opening the room door, between bathroom and cupboard, and walk through to the window and use of the bathroom when one isn't in a wheelchair. No biscuits in the room! Why don't hotels give you two easy chairs in a double room as they used to
Review 35:Cost, TV excellent, ground floor public disabled toilet, bed and bathroom linen and towels.Comfy bed. Breakfast choices, except no continental type with ham and cheese and boiled eggs on offer as alternative to a fry-up.
Review 36:The room was spacious the beds comfortable, the bathroom a good size. Breakfast was plentiful. Overall a good experience and we said so to the staff.
Review 37:I had stayed at a Mercure hotel only a couple of days before for the same price but the facilities and quality were much better. The room and dining area did not offer value for money at all with worn seats and marked tables in the dining room to a plug in electric heater in the room. The bathroom is overdue for a refit
Review 38:Convenient and hassle free
Review 39:Stayed on level 2. Rooms are past their use by date, and run down. Toilet did not flush, and mould present. Ok for one night for place to sleep.
Review 40:Spacious room, plenty of parking.
Review 41:The bathroom was very dated and starting to show signs of black mould etc. This is not acceptable these days.
Review 42:This is a good comfortable hotel with good facilities and good sized rooms.
Review 43:A little bit tired
Review 44:You get what you pay for as a business traveller meeting his own expenses it was perfect for my needs but if you paid for a holiday or break staying there you may be dissapointed
Review 45:disappointed with the general up keep of the room - AC not working, rip on duvet cover confusion over bill when checking out despite already paying for breakfast on arrival i was told i hadnt paid for it whilst i was eating breakfast
Review 46:the price but with everything i guess you get what you pay for! but for £95 i did expect better standards
Review 47:Booked a family room, but got a twin with 2 singles pushed together I fell through gap all night. banging from upper story all night, manger very rude and not!! Helpful
Review 48:I didn't like the fact that in the literature it said that the bus stop waa right outside the hotel when it was in fact a good 10 minute walk away and staff had no info about bus times , directions etc . I needed to get to N&N hospital each day and had come up from London by train and as cab fares were approx £10 each way accurate bus info woukd have been helpful . Also my room was cold even with the fire , I did ask for a blanket but wasn't given one
Review 49:I liked that the room was clean and quiet
Review 50:Disturbed around 3am by people talking and knocking on doors- probably the wedding reception party?
Review 51:Friendly staff and good food in the restaurant. Useful taxi firm just round the corner.
Review 52:Housekeeping trying to come in TWICE before we had checked out - once they knocked while we were in there and once an older woman with a pale pink top let herself in while we were still taking things back and forth to the car. (This was well before the checkout time of 11am).
Review 53:Friendly, helpful staff, lovely breakfast, nice decor, great view from the room, in fact apart from the point below I couldn't fault it.
Review 54:Bath was chipped in 4 or 5 places, and bathroom decor needs updating. Some of the dishes at breakfast were chipped and need to be replaced.
Review 55:Pleasant and helpful lady Dawn, on reception when we arrived. Excellent friendly service from Vali and her colleague (young oriental lady sorry don't know her name) at Dinner and excellent food too. Beds very comfortable.
Review 56:I was led to believe we could book in early and after a 6 hour journey were disappointed to arrive and be told that as they had been busy the night before it wouldn't be available till 2! Better customer service could have offered to get the room ready earlier as we had arrived?
Review 57:Room was clean and tidy. Beds were comfortable.
Review 58:The room was freezing and the window didn't close properly. Inadequate staff for a wedding. Time waiting at the badly stocked bar was unacceptable. Staff chewing gum!
Review 59:Convenient
Review 60:I was cold, turned the Air Con on and set to 25 degrees. I woke up at 3 in the morning freezing. I then turned it off and noticed there was an electric fire. I turned this on then woke up too hot in the morning.
Review 61:The food in the restaurant was good but fresh coriander is not a good garnish for belly pork on bubble and squeak. Crispy onions or even parsley would have been much better. The Annesly serves a much better menu.
Review 62:Restaurant was cold, even the staff commented on it....likely caused by another party continually leaving a side door open in their event room so folk could pop out and in for a ciggy. In general the bar and restaurant are in need of a facelift, chairs too low for eating. The bar looked more like a staff canteen....not that inviting.
Review 63:Was clean.Generally the staff were accommodating and despite the downsides the value was reasonable for the price.
Review 64:On Sunday morning I asked that an extra blanket be put on my bed for that night. When I arrived back on Sunday evening I could not get into my room and so had to go back to reception to have my card revalidated. On going into my room I found that the blanket that I had requested had not been deliviered. I therefore had to phone reception at (11.15pm) to ask for the blanket to be sent up. It arrived a quarter of an hour later. Also the shower hose sprayed water from its base where it connected to the taps.
Review 65:air conditioning not working, staff too busy to deal with either us or the problem. Room was too hot to sleep so although given a full refund had to drive 5+hours home at night
Review 66:location
Review 67:Room a little dated, needed new furniture and carpet. Bathroom fittings functional, but in need of updating. Was OK, but more expensive than Travelodge or Premier Inn, whose rooms have been updated more recently.
Review 68:Location, easy to get to, close to university and city centre, all within 15 min drive. Room OK, but not as modern/clean looking as updated Travelodge or Premier Inn. Bedroom was quiet, even though there were two weddings on when we were there. Food in Bar was nice and reasonably priced.
Review 69:Staff helped with food decision when we arrived late- 8pm. Room was comfortable, clean and good facilities. Good position for getting out of Norwich, without big traffic hold ups.our reason for staying was to have a sleep before driving from south wold to Macclesfield
Review 70:The price of a non alcoholic drink £4.50 for a monster drink would have been cheaper to have a coffee. Also the traffic noise being on the front and a light sleeper, those windows weren't glazed very well check in at 3am by 5am&went the traffic started so I didn't have much rest after a 5hour car journey.
Review 71:Spacious room and hot running water
Review 72:shower went ice cold then burning hot. The carpets in the corridor have not been hoovered and were really dirty. A really basic hotel over priced
Review 73:Location great for Norwich show ground ..... Although not walkable it is a short cab journey away The staff really helpful. Free wifi
Review 74:it's a bit dated but was clean enough, iPad kept losing wifi connection in the room, fire alarm went off because someone had burnt toast in the breakfast room
Review 75:the room was a reasonable size, not too far out of town
Review 76:One cleaning lady was very rude when i asked for a bigger bin bag so i could tidy the room before i left. Overheard her moaning about paying guests saying 'i am not a skivvie' - no gym or swimming pool. We had a tap we couldnt turn off or it made too much noise. Room was basic and smelt - overpaid for what it was
Review 77:The location to the norfolk showground is ideal but if you want the city it is too far
Review 78:Nothing really. I've stayed before and although the decor is tired, it's decent value for money.
Review 79:The hotel is in a quiet location and there is a great cross country running route just up the road. The reception and bar staff were very helpful, the WiFi is ok and there's loads of free parking.
Review 80:the rooms are in a desperate need of updating. there were holes in the bathroom door from a previous hook, most woodwork is chipped and the bathroom floor was coming away from the wall, plus the shower has no thermostatic control and so one minute it went cool the next it was boiling - not really acceptable these days.
Review 81:the garden area to walk the dog
Review 82:Hotel was lovely and staff were very pleasant. Although all the facilities were not available ( swimming pool ) I was told I could use the gym just down the road as I was a Hotel guest.
Review 83:The staff at this hotel made it for me, I am a single mum and was travelling with my three children ages 2-9 and they could not have been more accomodating. The food was delicious and the waiter made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble, I do believer his name is Alistaire. My children loved the decor they thought it was as posh as bucking ham palace :-). Our room was very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. I would highly recommend this hotel, and would go there again
Review 84:Brown stains in toilet marks on carpet in bedroom TV not working reported it but no one came but to be fair it was 9pm they should have spoke to us that they couldn't look at it but they didn't !!! Also no fridge which is disappointing !!
Review 85:Wifi
Review 86:none.
Review 87:Easy to find, easy to park (Very important) of a given standard -- you know what to expect as a minimum - reasonably priced, good staff, reasonable accommodation (a bit dated now)
Review 88:Airconditioning not working so had to open window. Noisy machine operating outside window with a loud hum and regular thumping sound. Led to a poor nights sleep.
Review 89:Excellent staff. Very helpful and pleasant. I particularly noticed their kind and helpful attitude to an elderly and disabled couple.
Review 90:Some traffic noise from the road around the hotel.
Review 91:Staff were friendly and helpful. Food on the whole was good. The room was a good size and was comfortable.
Review 92:No prices for breakfast of website or in folder in room. £10.99 is a bit extortionate for grapefruit, cereal with yoghurt and water. Felt rather isolated in a largely unoccupied area of the hotel
Review 93:Ease of access on road system. Appointment of room. Bar meals good price, and bar friendly for entertaining relatives.
Review 94:Leaving
Review 95:From the moment my family and I arrived it was outstanding it looked like a 5 star hotel. There staff were so welcoming and very friendly there room was superb and we will definitely be staying again. Thank you
Review 96:The room was too small and it wasnt as clean as it should be. Room needs refurbishment. The kettle is old. There is no lift. No breakfast included in our one night stay and it was expensive for no reason. Locals seem to go there for a drink and there are pets allowed so its not family friendly. Its in the middle of nowhere. I cant find anything good about the hotel.
Review 97:Not really bad but aircon didn't work and was flashing red, yellow green and blue all night. I was like a psychedelic disco.
Review 98:Comfortable room. Had a good rest and nice breakfast.
Review 99:Needs a good clean on the stairs and lights!
Review 100:Restaurant staff were excellent and served us coffee in the courtyard. Good location and easy to get in and out of Norwich town centre. beds were comfy.
Review 101:As an oap. I would have thought more care would have been given to the allocation of the rooms nearer to reception. We had to walk a long way to 137.
Review 102:Everything was ok Rooms were good.
Review 103:Air conditioning not cold. Hot night with 2 adults and one young teenager, no one got much sleep. Even had small fan from reception, still very hot. Over charged for breakfast. Paid for room and 2 adult one child breakfast as soon as we arrived. On check out got charged an extra £30 !!! Wouldnt stay again due to this. Shame really. Not good for disabled either.
Review 104:Comfortable and clean. Nice staff.
Review 105:Air conditioning in 233 didn't work, buzzing noise in 226 woke son up 5:00am, breakfast most elements missing and slow to be replenished. Felt like we were keeping staff from something else.
Review 106:The room was very dated and had clearly been an old smoking room. The manager did give us a full refund for both nights due to the state of the room.
Review 107:There is nothing really to dislike. My only comment, which was not reported was that the air conditioning unit did not appear to work. Other than that there were no problems at all
Review 108:The location was good, staff were friendly and professional, food was very good and the modern layout made getting around very easy
Review 109:Our bedroom was good, but the bathroom was fully fitted with disabled persons fittings and generally a little tired. I would not have been happy to pay the full price for this room and would have requested a move
Review 110:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was of a good standard and plentiful. Overall it was a good standard hotel .
Review 111:Breakfast always seemed to be cold and hard the bacon scrambled egg watery perhaps individual service of tables and requirement would be better food would be fresh and hot
Review 112:Reception.Gail and Mare de in restaurant extremely helpful once hearing of my first experience on the breakfast on day 1.
Review 113:I wanted a double bed but had a twin bed with wheels under them. This made me uncomfortable as they keep moving as I turn on the bed. At least the wheels should be made in a way you can lock them
Review 114:the hotel looks good and staff are very nice especially the cleaning services
Review 115:Although it said free wi-fi, it didn't work every time I tried to log on which was very frustrating for me trying yo keep up to date with everything. Dated although for cost didn't expect much more. Restuarant had run out of ALL vegatarian options on the menus even though they were very quiet. I would recommend popping over the road to the Castle Calvery to eat where there are far more options at better value.
Review 116:Staff were excellent, location great for all locations we wanted to visit.
Review 117:Woken up at 2.30 a.m. by noisy residents talking loudly in corridor outside room. Inhaling tobacco smoke through air conditioning during night. Cleanliness in bathroom left a lot to be desired. Corridors had not been vacuumed for some time either.
Review 118:All positive from the subcontractors! We've now used Best Western for several weeks whilst our subcontractors complete a project based close by. The hotel has been amazing, they are aware we have a high demand for rooms so have called us to offer us rooms and even been the first people to call following a cancellation. The subcontractors can be picky about the locations and accomodation they have been booked previously but I have had nothing but positive feedback regarding this hotel :) We will be using them again for a couple of weeks untill the project ends but you will be added to our approved accomodation list and re-used should we return to the area.
Review 119:During our stay a wedding party completely took over the hotel facilities at the expense of the hotel guests. Did not enjoy our evening meal due to all of the disruption. Ate out after that.
Review 120:The beef I had was very tough, the dining tables were very sticky, they also need to clean the edges of the tables and not just the top
Review 121:The breakfast was good and the staff polite
Review 122:The bedroom was very dated and when we moved the bed slightly it was evident that nobody had cleaned under there for some time. We asked for a twin room but had a double bed and a very small single with no headboard which looked as though it had been left there as an afterthought!
Review 123:The meals provided were of good quality.
Review 124:Noise from generators outside bedroom window.Cleanliness of toilet.Broken window handle so window couldn't be fully closed.
Review 125:Room size, bed size, tv.
Review 126:Pre-ordered wine not in room on arrival & then tried to charge me twice for it. Breakfast service appalling & staff incompetent - had to ask for tea & coffee & buffet hot food not kept replenished.
Review 127:Room clean & bed very comfortable.
Review 128:This is one of those Best Western hotels that make you realise what a broken brand it is. Stained walls, bedding and curtains. Tired bathroom with frayed shower curtain, broken soap dish, light above mirror not properly fixed to wall, tissues not replaced. Coffee cups stained.
Review 129:When i complained the receptionist was friendly and discounted my stay.
Review 130:The room wasn't up to the cleanliness I'd have expected with stains on the carpet, dust on the headboard and around the toilet bowl and splash stains on the bathroom door. This standard of cleanliness was reflected through the rest of the hotel with obvious dust in the restaurant & bar, sticky tables, dirty bowls at breakfast and cracked glasses. We were also charged for our children's breakfasts and upon leaving the hotel found out that they should have eaten free with paying adults. Overall not impressed and would not recommend
Review 131:At dinner I didn't receive the meal I ordered. Although the meal I had was very good. The shower was cold then scalding hot then cold again. There was no heating in the room.
Review 132:Room was clean and comfortable and food was of a good standard.
Review 133:The hotel did not warrant 3 stars in my opinion. The condition of furnishings in the room and bathroom were cheap and worn. With wonky cupboard door and signage.
Review 134:The staff were really welcoming and friendly.
Review 135:Air conditioning broke during the night, toilet didn't flush correctly and we had a corner room connecting to some strangers room which just felt a little too intimate for us.
Review 136:The staff were polite and helpful, breakfast was brilliant quality and with plenty of variety, and the location was superb.
