Reviews for YHA Castleton Losehill Hall

Review 1:The only downside was trying to find the hostel in the dark. it's a 5 minute walk into fields from the main road and the way is not lit up.

Review 2:The staff were extremely friendly and polite. Good atmosphere and cosy. Had a great nights sleep and made friends.

Review 3:Only negative was the poor water pressure in the shower, little more than a dribble of warm water.

Review 4:Beautiful location easily accessible to Castleton. Fantastic hostel and lovely staff

Review 5:Might be handy to have more than one person serving at brekkie. And to have a jug of water out! When my friend asked for some water she was told 'It's in the tap' 0.o

Review 6:Good location, cheap, beds clean and good sturdiness. Staff friendly, and helpful with directions. Safe, lockable room.

Review 7:Lack of toilets and showers near dorm compared to some Youth hostels.

Review 8:Beautiful communal rooms, proximity to good walks and Castleton pubs, stunning views of hill tops after a light sprinkling of snow, goats, pigs and sheep in the grounds, 2 log burners, gorgeous very grand staircase.

Review 9:Love the staff - they remembered me (hopefully in a good way!) from last year. Really friendly, helpful and welcoming :) Loved the fire and chesterfield sofas in the lounge and that there was hot chocolate and coffees available at the bar. Kitchen is modern, warm and great facilities.

Review 10:The room wasn't cheap considering there were no amenities and the shower was either freezing or scalding hot

Review 11:The YH was lovely and warm. Reasonably clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 12:Barely enough car parking. Inconsiderate idiots parking over the lines wasting spaces. Key cards to room easy to forget when you nip to the loo or take a shower, so you get locked out your room...

Review 13:Staff, Facilities, Cleanliness, Comfort, Value for money, Location. The facilities were outstanding really, one of the best Hostels I've seen

Review 14:Nothing I didn't like.

Review 15:The location was great, just a few minutes drive or a 10 minute walk to Castleton and 15 minutes drive to Edale and good access to the fantastic walks. Fantastic facilities for self catering or the option to dine there if you prefer.

Review 16:More expensive than I was expecting for sleeping in bunk beds! But it was bank holiday weekend so went with it.

Review 17:Fantastic Location. Kids could explore the gardens and animals. Relaxed, safe atmosphere that ticked all our family boxes.

Review 18:Room not cleaned when I checked in.

Review 19:The staff were excellent! Room cleaned instantly when I told reception that it wasn't ready; profuse apologies from staff.

Review 20:There wasn't really anything we could complain about! The only thing you should consider when staying at the hostel is the fact that it is very helpful to have a car. There are busses and we managed to get around by public transportation quite well but it is much more comfortable if you have a car.

Review 21:The hostel is in a beautiful location, right at the bottom of Losehill with direct access to hiking paths. The rooms and the whole accomodation were very clean and the staff was super friendly and very helpful! They didn't hesitate to check routes for us and help us planning our hike!

Review 22:Walking back to the hostel at night thought the woods...it was very dark so could do with some lights really.

Review 23:Loved the location and setting, the hostel looked very gothic on the outside and in and very friendly staff always smiling :)

Review 24:Self catering kitchen is large but not very well equipped - needs more basic cooking equipment.

Review 25:Beautiful, large gardens with pigs and goat and plenty of room for children to play. Comfortable beds.

Review 26:Not really a bad comment only to say the WiFi could any be used in certain parts of the hostel

Review 27:The staff, atmosphere and location all excellent couldn't find a fault

Review 28:Wifi signal only available in a small part of building. Kitchen utensils were missing most of the time.

Review 29:Excellent location and nice place to stay for a few nights.

Review 30:It was noisy at night with children running up and down the corridors. The toilet in room 10 doesnt flush and the toilet window is broken. Save us from jack rabbit red wine please !

Review 31:The location, the dining room, the lawn for children to play on.

Review 32:due to the nature of the old buildings there is some build up of condensation on the windows in the morning.

Review 33:Everything from the safe family friendly atmosphere to the refurbished kitchens and facilities.

Review 34:maybe too expensive for the services offered - towels, soap and breakfast not included. The wifi also didn't work except for the hall/reception

Review 35:Excellent heating, very clean and good communal spaces

Review 36:Would be great to have wi fi in rooms Gluten free bread please.

Review 37:Clean, friendly and the setting is wonderful. Staff friendly and helpful. Will certainly be returning. Great Drying Room - came in very useful.

Review 38:The location is a little far if you do not have private car.

Review 39:The garden outside the house has a lot of lambs. The house looks like an old church, which is super quite with fish pool, garden, and living room. The room is convenient. Toilet and bath room are just on the next door. By the way, the water is hot and all public places are clean.

Review 40:They take extra charges for WiFi. 5 pounds / 2 devices / 24 hour. I think that should be free.

Review 41:Very catchy place. Nice scenery. Perfect from the inside. We really liked the lambs going around the garden. We have even saw a gray squirrel. Shared bathrooms but very well equipped. Warm and nice rooms.

Review 42:The staff couldn't be more helpful. There was a problem with the gas which meant facilities not available but we explained we couldn't come another weekend as it is annual reunion. This was reflected in the price charged and staff were so helpful. The location and setting are fantastic. Walks from the hostel and only short walk to local pubs. I recommend the Bull's Head for food and the Nag's Head for live music on Sat!!

Review 43:Disappointed there was no where for children to meet up . I was there with my 8 year old grandson. The lounge was quiet with adults reading, there was no play area to attract children. There were indoor games, such as Uno which I eventually found were housed behind the counter but no where suitable to go and play so we used the dining room. It needs an outside area with something to attract children so they can meet and make friends. We left with my grandson speaking to no one. the families were all very self contained I guess for the same reason. We need to encourage children to want to go back because they made so many friends there. Perhaps we would have done better if we had self catered.

Review 44:The place was great for adults to stay.

Review 45:Hard to find annexe room at first attempt (no guiding signs) Timed washbasin taps and no drain plug.

Review 46:Welcoming staff. Smart reception area. Clean room, shower, and toilet. Comfortable bed. Quiet with window open. Good breakfast and dinner in pleasant dining room.

Review 47:- friendly, helpful staff - simple but clean en suite room, very comfy bed - 10 mins walk from Castleton village, beautiful surroundings, with paths to Mam Tor, Hollings Cross, Edale, etc. Hope station 2 miles away.

Review 48:Just some minor suggestions -bathrooms could do with a chair or block seat to prop ones wash things on. Dorm rooms would benefit from a dimmer switch or from some small wall lamps. The lights next to bunk beds are great, but when guests are arriving in the room at different times of the night, it would be helpful to have an alternative switch next to the entrance door to avoid the main lights being turned on.

Review 49:Very clean and modern interior within a grand exterior. Lovely grounds and outside areas well maintained. Located just off the main road so easy to get to by local bus.

Review 50:The fact that there's no lights when going towards the place. For example, if you're walking up the very long drive at night time and don't have a phone or light on you, it'd be a struggle to see where you are. Luckily, my mum and me were in the car, but it was pitch black walking from the car park. The noise from the toilet or shower, whenever you went near it, the light would come on and the noise went on for quite a long time whilst we were trying to speak. There was no towels provided and I wasn't informed about this. I think that if I'm paying £55 on a deal for one night, I'd expect towels or breakfast. Maybe a TV could be added to each cabin, especially with all the kids that go. There was nothing to do when we were in our room and luckily we had the option to go out at night.

Review 51:I loved how friendly, funny and welcoming the staff were towards my mother and I. The room was spotless and I had a really good nights sleep. I liked how there was stuff to do. For example, there's a lounge room and somewhere to eat your breakfast or have your dinner. It was the perfect location for my mother and me. We had a gorgeous meal which at a pub which was only a 5 minute drive and went shopping the next day, that didn't take long to get to either.

Review 52:light sensors were triggered on at times during the night which interrupted sleep. (possibly from movement in rooms above?)

Review 53:Beautiful gothic building in a great location for exploring the local area. Friendly and helpful staff. Good bar options, and kitchen facilities. Family atmosphere.

Review 54:Nothing - YHA is better than people remember from their youth, and you don't have to help clean anymore.

Review 55:The kitchen! I can cook my own supper, cutting the costs of travelling with a family. Also prepare a packed lunch and keep everything chilled. Better option for families than budget hotels as room to play, mooch about and usually in great locations.

Review 56:The bunk beds. Struggling to get in with the smart key at 11.45- a fellow traveller let me in through the library door.

Review 57:I've never stayed in a youth hostel before and was very impressed with Losehill Hall. It is a striking building set in an extensive woodland surround. The private room was basic but comfortable and spacious. The young staff were helpful and informative. Amazing value for money.

Review 58:Couldn't fault it. Staff, facilities and location excellent. Hope to return soon JW

Review 78:The proximity to Castleton and it's local attractions. Large rooms to accommodate groups.

Review 79:No food available after 9pm. Breakfast rather over priced.

Review 80:Convenient location for the Peak District and good facilities

Review 81:Location, staff friendly, facilities good, parking.

Review 82:Enjoy rooms with separate toilet and shower, very convenient! Shared kitchen facilities clean and tidy! Adequate public space!
