Reviews for Embankment Hotel

Review 1:The mattress was worn out. Very lumpy. Also there was noise from the bar downstairs. The room was stuffy. Car park too small - had to park on the road.

Review 2:Drain smell. Too busy due to Xmas parties. Quality of food probably due to being too busy. Parking is limited.

Review 3:View from room. The managers valiant attempt to deal with my complaints.

Review 4:the room was lovely, didn't pay for breakfast so can't review it. our only problem was the parking. no space at all. very little carpark for the size of the place.

Review 5:Dogs in the bar made whole area smell very much of dogs not very nice when you wish to eat. Limited parking drinks and food a bit pricey

Review 6:Location is excellent. Nice big room,

Review 7:Shower was very small. No Elevator. Smell coming from Gents Toilet in Bar Area, next to Reception desk. Didn't realize it was a dog friendly hotel.

Review 8:The Location was superb. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere in the hotel.

Review 9:We didn't get the room we'd booked on the website with the bath, neither did we get the discount. Was looking forward to a luxurious soak and ended up with a shower. Neither did we get the discount. Neither was the fault of the hotel. It was booking.coms mistake

Review 10:Booked months in advance and picked the room that had the double bath as shown on booking.coms website also had a discount if you booked that day. Staff are friendly and rooms are really nice with good facilities

Review 11:The food was not very good and we had to wait a long time for it .customers were allowed to bring there dogs into the hotel whilst we were eating our breakfast very unhygienic in my opinion. Great for dog lovers not for us.

Review 12:We were only staying for 2 nights .

Review 13:Parking could've been an issue. I chose this hotel because of the parking then when I arrived there was no space (because the restaurant is so popular & busy). However, the very helpful receptionist moved her own car to ensure I did have parking overnight. Excellent service.

Review 14:Location - very picturesque & yet conveniently close to the main town. Very helpful staff, especially during Check-In.

Review 15:Parking was not good as only small car park. Tea tray very poor only enough mild for one drink and cardboard cups!!! Staff not on site during the night.

Review 16:Lovely bed, great bar area.

Review 17:Nothing to dislike

Review 18:Clean, good sized room / bathroom. Bar has a nice feel to it. I love the river bank setting. Loved the breakfast. Just a really nice place to stay

Review 19:My eldely father, step mother, visited family in bedford October from Canada, stayed @your hotel, been well looked after by your staff, booked stay again April 16

Review 20:The bed was lumpy and the check in /check out staff where busy doing bar and kitchen so I had to wait 10 mins to check out which is no good when on a tight time Frame. The hotel just needed a bit of a paint and make over.

Review 21:Evening meal and the bar staff fantastic, had a great view over the river and was close enough to walk into town and eat if you didn't fancy the bar/pub as the menu was limited

Review 22:Very noisy air conditioning next to room 107 Lunch took forever to come so were offered a free round of drinks Were charged for the "free" drinks After complaining, the duty manager failed to even call back even though he promised Appalling

Review 23:A very smelly male WC in the pub whihc crept out into the hall, but its not near the food or the accomodation

Review 24:Great location, loerly and varied pub grub, reasonable price and tasted great

Review 25:I could hear my next door rooms snoring - the walls of this old property are thin but frankly didn't concern me - will be booking there again

Review 26:Really nice staff, room completely exceeded expectations

Review 27:The room we were given had a terrible mattress but the staff did quickly move us to a better room as soon as we complained.

Review 28:Lovely staff and beautiful rooms

Review 29:The bed was somewhat old and soft, didn't suit my back but that is common over a lot of hotels I stay in

Review 30:Very comfortable hotel with excellent, very helpful staff. Great interior. The beer could have been better (I was working at the beer festival so the comparison probably not too fair) but the breakfast was great

Review 31:Not really a complaint but the room (204) could have done with a lamp on the desk - a bit dim for the ladies

Review 32:Staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was delicious and plenty of it, bed was very comfortable and room was quiet

Review 33:No lift quite a few stairs as its a old building. It could do with some modernisation & little more attention to cleaning behind doors & windows sills etc

Review 34:Excellent location staff friendly & food very good

Review 35:Nothing

Review 36:Large bedroom and bed - comfortable bed - bottled water by side of bed. Modern bathroom and good shower. Excellent food and service and freshly cooked HOT breakfast.

Review 37:There was a low rumble noise throughout the day but not at night.Kitchen extractor possible.!!!

Review 38:It was the 1st time I had stepped inside this hotel in nearly 30 yrs.and with the refurb I was pleasantly surprised.I liked the pub feel together with excellent restaurant and the spacious modern rooms.

Review 39:The bed was a small 4' double, some of the springs had gone and it was very hard. I have a bruise on my hip and we didn't sleep at all. Service was slow and uninterested.

Review 40:Very nice setting along the river which is lit up at night. Staff were friendly and courteous. The venue had a warm and inviting feel to it with a great restaurant on the premise.

Review 41:would have liked marmalade for breakfast. lots of stairs to room car parking facilities.

Review 42:friendly staff , great location , excellent food lively atmosphere

Review 43:No lift and we were on the top floor. Door did not fit tightly enough and light from the corridor entered the room ,so no lights out at bedtime.

Review 44:By the river and good location for restaurants and shops

Review 45:Staff not very friendly small camp bed for teenage children to sleep on. Didn't want to say anything in case they were moved away from being next to my room

Review 46:Lovely location nice breakfast

Review 47:The food in the restaurant was a little over complicated and as a result the quality suffered a little. Other than that though couldn't fault it.

Review 48:The hotel was lovely and the customer service was impeccable. The rooms were clean and well serviced.

Review 49:Very bad evening restaurant experience with 1.5 hour wait for main which for half the group was then served stone cold or severely under cooked . Refused to pay .

Review 50:Perfect location , nice bar and terrace , good beakfast and pleasant staff .

Review 51:Cigarette smoke from the outdoor cafe during restaurant hours...just need to keep windows closed ...

Review 52:Staff very helpful and great location ....view of the river. Great bath tub!

Review 53:The decor of the room needs improving, it was a bit drab

Review 54:The location was perfect, overlooking the river, close to the town and the rooms were spacious.

Review 55:There was a wedding at the hotel and hence it was very crowded (including the car park) and very noisy. The music went on until after midnight and I was woken in the early hours as people went back to their rooms.

Review 56:Good selection of cask ale. Excellent breakfast. Although Booking.com or the hotel made a mistake with our booking, the guy on reception solved the problem with no fuss.

Review 57:Due to hot weather room was very humid even with window open. Air conditioning would be a bonus.

Review 58:Great location; atmosphere; food (both in the restaurant and breakfast) and overall a good price.

Review 59:After breakfast, a young man appeared in the dining room, with a very large wet dog, which was very smelly. I believe he was a friend of the staff, as they all appeared to coax the dog.It did spoil the ambiance of the breakfast room. Our friend is allergic to dog and cat fur, so we had to leave.

Review 60:The hotel was beautiful, but there was no real comfortable places where guests could relax except the restaurant and bar area. Lovely position on the river.

Review 61:Breakfast while cleaner mops the floor round you. Cooked breakfast was swimming in grease and cold.

Review 62:Evening meali in the restaurant was excellent and well priced

Review 63:It is more like a pub with rooms so no room service or 24 hour reception but don't let this put you off.

Review 64:Hotel is in an excellent location by the river and has a great outdoor area looking out on the river.

Review 65:There isn't an elevator and no ground floor guest rooms. This can prove difficult for a single person moving luggage or a person who has difficulty in going up and down stairs. No in-room telephones. If you need to contact a Manager you need to walk outside your room to a hall phone.

Review 66:The staff is wonderful and the location is great - right across the street from the River Ouse.

Review 67:Cant think of anything...

Review 68:Situated right in centre of Bedford, but in a really nice riverside location. 10 min walk to a wide range of restaurants / bars. Hotel / pub was busy with a good atmosphere on a Tuesday night. Whats not to like?

Review 69:Staff didn't seem very interested. Breakfast was slow service. The first room (108) we got allocated was dark and very small.

Review 70:The outdoor seating area overlooking the river.

Review 71:Great location for our visit to the British grand prix at silverstone. Nice room, excellent food and location opposite river and park.

Review 72:Bit of noise from car park at rear late into evening.

Review 73:When checking out the reception staff was not particularly friendly. They barely spoke. 2 flights of stairs to our room and no air conditioning.

Review 74:On arrival at the hotel late Friday night, evening, the young woman who greeted us was very pleasant and helpful even moving her car to accommodate ours.

Review 75:The bed wasn't long enough, my feet were over hanging off the end. The breakfast portion was very small and was not value for money. One of the breakfast waitress' was very rude. The other was very kind and helpful.

Review 76:Very good overall, location and parking. The building looked great and most staff very friendly and welcoming.

Review 77:We should have been able to get into are room at 2,but it was still being cleaned at 3.30

Review 78:It was right near the river, close to the town center,it was busy for food and drink the whole time we was there

Review 79:I thought the drink prices were on the high side, but considering the location, not to bad. I have paid more in less likable surroundings.

Review 80:The hotel is situated on the river with wonderful outlooks. Easy to find, with a small car park where I was fortunate to find a space to park for free. Breakfast was well cooked and had a large selection.

Review 81:It was a hot day and air con not working, room cooled down with window open, luckily there was no noise from the pub. Good parking in the back, but always full as people in the pub use it, and no reserved place for guests.

Review 82:Excellent location, pub downstairs serves good food and breakfast with a good range to choose from!

Review 83:Room was very dark due to obstructed view. Bar noise could be heard until late at night and early in the morning.

Review 84:Size of room was great, lovely and large with lots of storage.

Review 85:We were disappointed that breakfast was not included with the price of the room as we understood that the Embankment was advertised as a Bed & Breakfast establishment.

Review 86:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 87:The bed was too soft for us, and the room (106) was in need of a update, it was very tatty and dated, and overly hot with just a fan for cooling.pub

Review 88:The Location was nice, the dining room was nice and the outside look of the hotel was good. The free Wi-Fi worked well.

Review 89:I don't like the check-in system that they have. If you want to get into your room or sit at a table you have to go to the bar. That doesn't really work on a Saturday evening when the bar is full of customers.

Review 90:The hotel is in a great location and the interior decorating is really modern and fresh.

Review 91:Room 104 was quite dark, as window was opposite a house next door.

Review 92:Location of Hotel is Excellent, staff very efficient & friendly. Meals were of very good quality throughout our stay. Special mention to Gemma, you are a valuable member of staff, with your attitude & knowledge of the business.

Review 93:Only downside was that we had requested a light bright room but given a side room with just one window.

Review 94:The Embankment Hotel overlooks The River Ouse and is within walking distance to town centre.

Review 95:Cmfortable river view bedroom clean and warm very busy pub the food was well presented plenty of choice and breakfast likewise if I could make a small suggestion it would have been nice to have some local information on the area and some idea of walks and attractions this could have been placed in the bedroom

Review 96:Husband tripped up on step going outside. Mother tripped up coming in & had to spend night in A & E.

Review 97:Lovely position overlooking river with tables outside. Huge choice at breakfast. Proper Job on tap! Free parking. Helpful staff. Close to town centre.

Review 98:The cost of including breakfast to the price of our stay (we went bed only). It was over £20 on top of the room price, which considering there are places nearby where you could get breakfast for less than £5 each, was too expensive.

Review 99:A lovely pub overlooking the river, just the spot for a drink on a sunny day. The room was ideal, and quiet. You wouldn't have known you were above a pub.

Review 100:coud not sleep in the night due to the noise from the pub, walking corridor, closing the door. always printer at the reception is broken and cannot get bill(happens twice). Staff said she will send it by email later but never received it.

Review 101:friendly staff good pub

Review 102:Got good cheap deal for 1 in double room - room a little bit dull but comfortable bed and all I needed.

Review 103:Lovely restaurant/pub, very comfortable, great location, lovely food but pricey, good service, nice room. Lovely bathroom and bed.

Review 104:It’s a Victorian building and, despite renovation, you can tell. But hey it’s got a bit of character!

Review 105:Friendly people and comfortable hotel. Good food as well!

Review 106:I was woken up quite early but I'm not sure if it was a guest or who! Also the lamp was broken by the bed :(

Review 107:Only stayed for one night, polite and efficient staff, nice and warm, good facilities and fast shower!

Review 108:too much noise. I had difficulty with the shower.

Review 109:the food was good and reasonably priced. The pub was friendly. Staff was courteous. The room was clean but the carpet was full of staines.

Review 110:Despite a mix up with room allocation (first room not made up, second room occupied) the issue was dealt with straight away and professionally and did not affect my stay at all.

Review 111:Lack of on-site car parking. The staff didn't seem to monitor the check in desk

Review 112:The room was clean and tidy, facilities excellent. Wifi allowed me to do what I needed it to do. Teas and coffees well presented. Would be more than happy to stay there again.

Review 113:It's refreshing to visit a hotel that clearly understands the meaning of hospitality. A friendly warm welcome, lovely bedroom and great food and service in the bar. The attention to detail shows in every area of the hotel, I will definitely be back!!

Review 114:I had a short 1 night stay at the Embankment and now I won't stay anywhere else! We didn't have time to stay for food but I would certainly eat there next time. The room was gorgeous over looking the river, fab fab fab! Next time hopefully I will stay longer! Thank you so much!

Review 115:I had to move rooms during my stay as the room i was given was above a very noisy kitchen.

Review 116:The hotel was very fresh looking and new furnishings were very good.I also enjoyed a very good cooked breakfast.

Review 117:Simple things like not ensuring there was as much sugar and milk left in the rooms for the amount of tea and coffee supplied. When using the hairdryer, the plug sockets were not near a mirror and the hair dryer lead was not long enough to stretch to the mirrors.

Review 118:A good refurbishment with lots of locals using the bar and restaurant. Hard working staff.

Review 119:Great location for very romantic stay . Lovely sumptuous room with a river view made the stay here perfect , the staff were faultless and great value for money also.

Review 120:Fire alarm went off at 07.30 and the staff getting the patio furniture spoilt a lay in after the fire alarm -However a free breakfast did make up for the inconvenience. We will be back.

Review 121:The room over looking the river was a treat a pleasure to the eye.

Review 122:Heating was very high. Our room was on the second floor but had to walk up two flights of stairs. The communal areas were like a sauna. Turned heater off in the bedroom and didn't need it back on during our stay.

Review 123:Very private, not at all intrusive but great facilities provided. A great place to get away from it all.

Review 124:weak flush on toilet

Review 125:Breakfast was lovely and lots of choice. decor was very nice with warm towels and comfy bed. i like a nice soft pillow too and this was great... i slept like a baby

Review 126:Rooms were a little "tired" - in need of a bit of refurbishment. Staff not very efficient - had an emergency call from my mum and contact number not passed on. Caused us unnecessary worry as mum elderly. Booked 5 rooms and the room of one of my party who arrived after us allocated to another couple. Room found but could have been a disaster!

Review 127:Location fabulous. Bar very cosy and welcoming. Rooms clean and comfortable. Restaurant food excellent and good value for money.

Review 128:My wife complained because she could not fit the settee in the hotel into our travel bag...LOL!

Review 129:the hotel, the staff, the food and the location are all excellent..... a must for any person going to Bedford!

Review 130:Stayed here for a weekend break with friends. The room was lovely with plenty of space and very comfortable beds. Staff were lovely and location was great, only a short walk to the high street, bars and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!

Review 131:Bedroom 5 the bed was collapsing, springs were painful. TV too small and hanging off wall. Room was very cold. Heater was below window but covered by heavy curtain that showed marks of heater, A fire hazard Basin was cracked and had obviously been for a long time. room was not very clean.

Review 132:Location

Review 133:The ONLY thing that let this place down was that the curtains didnt fit the windows. Had it been a summers day im not sure i would have appreciated that.

Review 134:Great Location near the river. Excellent pub downstairs that seems busy yet rooms are quiet.

Review 135:I have changed two rooms and there are always some questions with the shower room with Both of them. No lift also brings us some problem with carrying out luggages.

Review 136:nothing

Review 137:the staff where very good and we were served quite quickly for uor meals which was good as we were there at a very busy time .The room was spacious and very comfortable .The menu was varied and good value .all together a very welcoming atmosphere prevailed.
