Reviews for Richard III Hotel

Review 1:A return visit, as good as last time if not better. Very nice room with usual outstanding breakfast. Lovely evening meal by log fire. Excellent selection of well kept beer.

Review 2:Having to leave :(

Review 3:Great atmosphere Brilliant hosts and staff Tremendous food and ale superb room And all within walking distance of so many racing yards

Review 4:When we saw the room for the first time it was a shock its was facing a brick wall. I asked if there was another room available there was and it cost £10 more for the upgrade, we were only too happy to pay the extra. The hotel was ideally situated and being history buffs thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the castle was just around the corner.

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:Staff friendly, nothing a bother. Breakfast delicious and ample. Thursday night indian meal very good value and very tasty. Bed wS so comfortable in Agincourt Rm 3

Review 7:Bathroom was on split level and shower was small. Neither easy to negotiate.

Review 8:Menu choice and quality of food was really good. Some good wines and 3 or 4 cask ales on the bar which were in good order.

Review 9:No vegetarian sausages and bacon despite requesting it on booking. They had a Halloween disco on our last night which spoilt out stay as it was loud and crammed

Review 10:Location - people - food - drink -

Review 11:Mattresses poor, but passable if you have a niggle free back. Will check if improved before booking again, but would go back tomorrow if not for this.

Review 12:Location excellent, superb food and service (best breakfast ever), friendly accommodating staff. Highly recommend, especially to dog owners wanting to get away with their canine companions.

Review 13:Arrived Sunday afternoon - a quiet drink at the bar spoiled by a group of noisy men playing some sort of game at one table who did not seem able to speak without using four letter letters in every sentence.

Review 14:Large comfortable bed in the Richard3 room. Reasonable selection of dishes at dinner. Friendly staff

Review 15:Noisy room above bar with loud music until 12.30 (despite requesting a quiet room). We knew staying at a pub would be lively but not until that time. Mix up about table reservation not dealt with well.

Review 16:The location is great, food very nice, décor in rooms pleasant with attention to detail.

Review 17:The room was very small for a twin double but nicely done and ok for a couple of nights. The beds however were very, very uncomfortable. Poor quality mattresses - altho the springs were not poking through you could actually get hold of them through the fabric. We had to move on solely for that reason.

Review 18:Location, friendly staff and great food. Would have stayed longer.

Review 19:The pump for the lavatory was extremely noisy and the floor by the basin was rotten underneath and squeaky underfoot. But in the greater frame of things pailed into insignificance given such a enjoyable stay.

Review 20:The friendliness of all the staff, we were staying to attend the Leyburn 40s week end and Taxis were at a premium, They provided a lift into Leyburn and picked us up from Leyburn free of charge, in fact they would not entertain payment. The food was gorgeous, we had scrumptious baguettes as a snack on arrival, a superb evening meal and a marvellous breakfast with an abundance of choice

Review 21:The door was very difficult to lock. There was a lot of noise from the pub downstairs until about 12:30. The bathroom plumbing was a bit noisy.

Review 22:The location was excellent and the staff helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable as was the bed. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were good.

Review 23:The radio from the bar underneath our room (3) was quite loud until midnight. It was quite disturbing, not what you want when you've been driving all day and want an early night.

Review 24:It was in a lovely place. Everyone was very friendly and the food, large portions, was very good.

Review 25:Ideally located in the centre of Middleham and a stone's throw from Middleham Castle. Easy parking. A busy pub atmosphere in the bars. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Huge four poster bed in our room. Friendly staff.

Review 26:We were in room 2 and the Bathroom is way outdated. The floor is spongy to walk on by the toilet, and the shower is near non existent. When mentioned yo landlord I was told that the room is due to be revamped soon.

Review 27:The location is excellent and this pub seems to be by far the favourite in Middleham. The food was very good and there is plenty for those with bigger appetites. Staff are friendly but very busy.

Review 28:Had our fill of alcohol and went to bed. Noisy outside. But thats me being a grump. Saturday night in June, what do you expect

Review 29:Walked 6 dales trail. Room really comfortable, shower great. could have had bath. staff friendly, food just what I needed.

Review 30:Nothing!!

Review 31:Location is excellent. lots of good walks nearby. The pub is extremely dog friendly. staff all very friendly. this is the 3rd time we have stayed in the pub in the last couple of years and we will definitely be back

Review 32:1. Dogs allowed in restaurant 2. Waitresses petting dogs and then serving food 3. Restaurant running out of food early especially on a Friday evening 4. Decor very tired, needs sprucing up

Review 33:Location Comfy bed

Review 34:Nothing to dislike, not even the creaky floorboards in this characterful old pub!

Review 35:Quiet early mornings with sound of horses passing by on way to the gallops, pure country! Lively evenings full of locals' friendly chatter and laughter. A great, welcoming atmosphere. Staff brilliant! Meals huge! So good there we stayed an extra night!

Review 36:the only thing i didn't like was the swearing/ foul language from a certain few of the regulars. don't get me wrong, i swear myself sometimes, but when in the company of strangers and not to give off the wrong impression of the pub i think they could have tempered their language a little( even if their horse had just won at Beverley). that said, overall everyone was very friendly and i would visit again

Review 37:beautiful peaceful location. friendly staff and locals. good food, plenty of real ales and ciders to choose from. thank you to the lad in the bar who gave his pint to my husband, so he could take it outside for me to taste to see if i liked it or not ! i did it was lovely. very dog friendly, was a big plus too, hello to ted and tilly !

Review 38:Bedroom very tired and old fashioned. No WiFi in bedroom and no desk. No one available to check out in morning. Had to walk over timber and tools to get to bedroom.

Review 39:Very friendly helpful staff. Lovely evening meal and breakfast. Great choice of local beers.

Review 40:We stayed on a Saturday night, so the noise from the bar/live music below kept us awake until late.

Review 41:Great food and service, super sized rooms and facilities, beautiful village and great location.

Review 42:there's nothing not to like.

Review 43:the rooms, the staff the food were brilliant. the ale first class, just great . if you want to laugh and enjoy a great bunch of people then this is the place for you,

Review 44:Hotel didn't have our booking registered when we arrived. Luckily they had rooms available or we would have been in trouble as we arrived in the evening. Not impressed with Booking.com.

Review 45:A nice busy family run hotel in a beautiful setting.

Review 46:the toilet made a loud noise every time it was flushed.

Review 47:the pub seemed to be the most popular of the 3 pubs in the village. And everyone was really friendly.

Review 48:constant slamming of doors and young kids running up and down the corridors was a nuisance. plus having to listen to women weeing farting and shouting all night and slamming the toilet doors was not my ideal way to spend a saturday night

Review 49:The building is old but had character, the bedroom was fine but the en-suite was tired and in need of modernisation. The wifi was free but the signal was very weak.

Review 50:Nice village, friendly staff, good beer in a nice pub.The breakfast was also very good and they gave us a massive choice.

Review 51:The shower was a bit small but still adequate

Review 52:The staff were all friendly and willing to help and answer all questions and request. The rooms were clean and well apointed really a cute place.

Review 53:The 4 poster bed took up all the room so very cramped with no room for anything else, room dirty with cob webs above the bed. Dogs wandering round dining room and sitting on seats that customers use.

Review 54:Good beer and nice meal

Review 55:We had booked a double and single room as we were travelling with our daughter but despite us having the relevant booking confirmation and the Hotel computer confirming this, they had only a small double room left. The hotel manager/owner became involved but his manner was unsympathetic and made us feel as if we were to blame. The place was quite untidy looking with tables not cleared after people eating and there were at least 3 dogs having the run of the bar/dining area so we were happy when, although after 8pm, we managed to book 2 rooms at a hotel nearby.

Review 56:You could be unhappy about noise from the bar as it goes late, or you could accept it, or even join in. And the dogs were barking pretty early, but they joined me for breakfast hoping for a bit of my sausage. If you take it as it comes, there is nothing not to like.

Review 57:Lovely location, cosy place with a good bar, great breakfast, comfy room, homely decoration and nice old comfortable building. This is a proper old pub and inn. I did not eat in the evening but assume it is as good as the breakfast. Anyway plenty of options round the cobbled village square. Stay here and not in a chain. Staff so welcoming, relaxed, friendly and helpful.

Review 58:Even if you're not into horse racing you can't help but love watching the horses trotting through the square outside on the way to and from their morning exercises. The staff were great, as was the food (although I struggled with the generous portions!). The setting and ambience is wonderful, and lends itself to a relaxing break. We stayed on Halloween and the following day and were expecting a noisy night with little sleep (as you should when staying in a pub at the weekend!). However, even though there was a fancy dress party on Friday, our room at the back (Richard III) provided us with a sound and solid night's sleep. We'll definitely be visiting again.

Review 59:Nothing to dislike.

Review 60:Great evening Halloween Party fun. The Steak and Ale Pie was 5 Star The young lads and lasses who must work for the local racehorse trainers were a real pleasure to party with. Fun with no unpleasantness if you were I am coming from..

Review 61:Wonderful place to stay. Friendly staff and locals. Freshly cooked evening meal and breakfast were both superb. Best cooked breakfast I have had bar none. Atmospheric bedrooms. Middlham seems to have a magic of its own.

Review 62:The smell of urine on the first landing as you go past the toilets. The excessive noise made by staff clearing away at night and setting up on a morning.

Review 63:Lovely Area, the food was very good.

Review 64:We had the room immediately above the bar so there was some noise but it is a pub so should be expected. We could have asked about the rooms at time of booking and the pub does not have a late license so no big deal.

Review 65:great food, good beer and very helpful staff. Great location to explore the area from.

Review 66:No net curtain in toilet, so always had to pull blind down when on the loo.

Review 67:Breakfast exceptional Clean bedding Complimentary water I saw a white misty shape in the night in our room.

Review 68:Our room was above the bar and was disturbingly noisy well into the early hours. Had we known this we would not have considered staying here.

Review 69:Lovely position on the market square.

Review 70:Room rather cluttered with non-functional furniture.

Review 71:Staff very friendly, attentive and helpful. They all seemed to be enjoying their job. Our son, 9, loved the theming of the RExcellent beer and fooichard III room.

Review 72:The village is spot on ,pub was very busy on a sunday, sunday evening was also very busy ,,very good food and drink,Rooms are tidy and clean,,Staff are all very helpful,,,,Meals are excellent most are handmade

Review 73:Pub rather than a hotel. Main entrance was initially blocked with young smokers. Friday night was music night - according to the information in the room - to finish at 11am -unfortunately our room was directly above the bar - where loud music played until 12.30am - followed by a 'private party/lock in' no music but loud chatting, laughing, ordering drinks, doors slamming etc - husband had to go downstairs at 2am as could hear every word and therefore no sleep possible - firmly asked the young people to be quiet - which they did about 15 mins later. Unfortunately lack of sleep and resulting tiredness spoilt our following day, touring Middleham castle & the Dales. If we'd known we could gave easily visited on an alternative day.

Review 74:Lovely location Bed wide and comfortable Food good

Review 75:There was nothing we did not like

Review 76:We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at the Richard 111 and wish it could have been longer. It was wonderful to sit outside watching the comings and goings in the old marketplace whilst sipping a glass of wine. Middlaham has an atmosphere all its own - tranquil, friendly and the bonus of seeing beautiful race horses passing by. The hotel is warm and welcoming, our room was clean and comfortable and the public rooms have lots of interesting quirks. We stayed on a Tuesday and sampled the steak deal. It was delicious and generous, as was the freshly cooked to order breakfast. I would recommend this hotel highly. Don't forget to visit the nearby castle and church

Review 77:Very noisy at night time. Our room (4) overlooked an alley with tables and chairs below the window, these were filled with youngsters laughing, swearing and generally very loud till gone 10pm. On the first evening there was a fight and someone being thrown out !!! All the doors in this lovely old building need soft closures fitting as they bang all day and all night, particularly in the front dining room, where the gents toilet is also located, the door banged throughout dinner both nights we ate there. There were a lot of youngsters in the bar swearing loudly, this appears to go unchallenged, not good when you have little ones.

Review 78:Room was lovely, we'll decorated and clean. Sadly it looked straight into a window opposite (looked like a restaurant) so had to keep curtains closed as no blinds or net. Excellent food and breakfast. Good location for days out, pretty village.

Review 79:The shower could have been better - it was a shower hose coming out of the bath mixer taps, so not much pressure from the shower, but it did the job.

Review 80:Friendly staff Great home cooked food - reasonably priced and nicely presented Clean and well appointed double bedroom.

Review 81:Rather disorganised at breakfast and surrounded by cleaners, delivery men and dogs.

Review 82:Excellent four poster bed but only marginally smaller than the room.

Review 83:Friendly welcoming staff. Great atmosphere. Comfortable room with views to watch the racehorses go by. Great breakfast, freshly cooked and tastier than most five star hotel breakfasts.

Review 84:Couldn't connect to the wifi, but you don't visit the Dales to spend your time surfing the net!

Review 85:Just what we hoped for. Lovely location, comfortable room, excellent breakfast, friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere, and great value for money.

Review 86:For some reason the management have written all sorts of notices and homilies on the inside walls which just looks like scruffy graffiti; a shame as the rooms are nice enough anyway with some interesting pictures hanging up.

Review 87:The staff, the food and the general ambience. A terrific breakfast!

Review 88:Na

Review 95:The extra touches in the rooms like bottled water and lots of mirrors and good lighting. The bar and dining areas were very different and inviting.

Review 96:Friendly ambience and excellent food. Interesting Horse Racing memorabilia.

Review 97:The location was spot on. Breakfast was great..

Review 98:poor reception on the tv and no wifi in the room

Review 122:Very good dinner and a lovely breakfast

Review 123:Excellent stay everything on hand and the staff are very helpful in all areas

Review 124:Not the sort of pub that a women feels comfortable eating in on her own.

Review 125:Location was perfect for my needs
