Reviews for The White Swan Hotel

Review 1:Stayed here over new year. Excellent location. Friendly and attentive staff. The room was spacious and modern. New Year's Eve dinner was a bit pricey but was good.

Review 2:Rooms on the front are pretty noisy and the wifi drops in and out.

Review 3:Good location in the centre of the village and close to local attractions. Breakfast was good

Review 4:Nothing bad at all.

Review 5:We were there for a special occasion, the manager gave ud a surprise free upgrade to a fantastic room. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast delicious. Location fabulous.

Review 6:Rather a disappointing dinner menu, particularly as I understand that the 'sister' hotel, The Blue Lion, has an excellent reputation for good food.

Review 7:Good breakfast, cosy bar. Very good central location in a lovely village.

Review 8:Nothing

Review 9:Glen th manager extremely hospitable All staff were excellent A truly great stay 2 nites with our daughters and partners Staff a real asset to the pub couldn't do enough for us would recommend and certainly return

Review 10:Limited lunch and evening meal menu with prices slightly higher than other establishments in the area Room was adequate - I booked a superior room but with hindsight should have saved the additional supplement and opted for a standard room. Not sure what we received for the additional cost

Review 11:Friendly staff Free wifi Great location

Review 12:A bit of dust in the odd area of the room, nothing to spoil the overall cleanseness of the hotel.

Review 13:Ideal location to visit the surrounding area either by walking or cycling. Excellent food. Free upgrade to the largest room in the hotel, cheers Scott.

Review 14:The bed was very uncomfortable and there was an unpleasant smell in the bathroom. The room could do to be updated especially the shower

Review 15:The location and the friendliness of the staff

Review 16:walls in rooms quite thin.

Review 17:Fantastic old building with a excellent bar and bistro restaurant with good home cooked food at very reasonable prices. I would recommend booking a table for Saturday nights as resturant gets very busy. Seeing the racehorses first thing in the morning going up to the gallops.

Review 18:Lovely old town with with ruined castle but the USP has to be the view of the strings of racing horses making their way through the square to and from the training ground up the road.

Review 19:Walls thin as old property and noisy bedroom neighbours, can hear everything said and kept me awake late at night. Room too warm and could not open a window as painted over. Did not have a good nights sleep. This is a shame as generally it was an enjoyable stay

Review 20:Staff good and helpful. Food excellent. Excellent Location, love Middleham.

Review 21:The wallpaper on the ceiling in the bedroom was coming off in the corner, which you looked at when lying in bed.

Review 22:The head waiter was very efficient and helpful, he even went out to the village shop to buy me some de-caf teabags. When we asked him questions about Middleham, he printed off information from the internet as he had only been there a month. The Manager was very frienldy and welcoming.

Review 23:Our room wasn't the cleanest we've ever had, lack of bedside table & lamp, no hot water one of our evenings & no heating on a very cold morning. The breakfast served up just warm on 1st morning.

Review 24:The staff were friendly & helpful, well equipped bar with a good pint. Good food served at breakfast.

Review 25:Needs some quality champagne on the menu. Veuve Cliquot etc but that's just nit picking.

Review 26:The premises has recently been taken over and was being decorated. Very friendly team and the most quiet nights of sleep you can wish for. We enjoyed all the meals we had there too. Quality food at reasonable prices.

Review 27:I couldn't connect with the wi fi but as a computer addict is was probably good to have a break so it didn't really spoil anything.

Review 28:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. It was a very enjoyable break and we will be coming back.

Review 29:Glen, the hotel manager made the stay very enjoyable, as did all of the staff. They really went above and beyond to make the stay as enjoyable as it could be

Review 30:I didn't like the fact that the hotel closed on Christmas Day if we had been aware of this prior to booking we probably wouldn't have stayed there.

Review 31:The décor is a little tired and the ambiance as a pub was a rather stark compared to other venues.

Review 32:Location was right in the middle town overlooking the town square. The beer from Wensleydale brewery was excellent. Easy access to walking over the nearby "Gallops" and old castle.

Review 33:Cold rooms when rest of building hot. Took 2 hours to have heater brought and then only to 1 of the rooms. Expensive pasta with sub-standard ingredients. General manager seems out of touch with what is actually happening on a daily basis. Television in room 3 broken and duvet covers with holes in. Hot water extremely hot. Shower poor. New year welcome very poor with no preparation for midnight. Loose fittings in need of upgrade.

Review 34:Location fabulous. Most if the staff lovely.

Review 35:De Luxe room was not in my opinion deluxe at all and I wished I had paid for a standard room. shower over bath and thin towels. Standard size bed, toiletries very basic. Charge for dog was 10 pounds compared with 4 pounds I had paid previous two nights in another hotel.

Review 36:Nice open fire and friendly staff, good location.

Review 37:The filth. We're talking 1970's squalor. Sleep in your car, it's cleaner, more comfortable and you're less likely to develop a rash. Abysmal excuse for a hotel. A blot on an otherwise beautiful landscape. Whoever rates this dump higher than POOR doesn't understand how surveys work. Book it if you dare - I'm sure the stains I encountered will still be there months from now.

Review 38:That I read enough reviews to skip breakfast. And that I hadn't booked two nights.

Review 39:we booked with our dog but when we arrived we were told it would be an extra £10. We also had to help ourselves to pillow cases and towels from the cupboard up the hallway.

Review 40:noisy room (11) above the kitchen so the extractor rumble was heard during mealtimes (including morning wake-up at 7.30am) ill fitting door - could see the light from the corridor all night. the steak (evening meal) was approx. 40% fat and tasteless. Breakfast was minimal and overdone.

Review 41:location bar facilities

Review 42:Could have done with a bigger TV but that's because we,re getting old.

Review 43:The staff were really nice and helpful. The rooms were very clean. Had no complaints about food, breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. Will definetly stay when back down.

Review 44:The coffee I was served after my meal was grim, and the shower in my en-suite was very cramped.

Review 45:The evening meal I had was excellent, the room comfortable and well furnished, and the staff friendly and helpful.

Review 46:Booking inof is misleading as it suggests breakfast is not included in the tariff but it is! The Hotel have reported thisto Booking a number of times apparently

Review 47:Absence of a welcome when we arrived Dirty stair carpet and very musty stairwell Not encouraged to use bistro or bar - so we went elsewhere!

Review 48:Location Restaurant/bistro

Review 49:No complaints at all about the hotel and level of service. A minor detail about the breakfast. Although cooked to order, there did not appear to be much flexibility with the breakfast - I love mushrooms but cannot eat butter, we were told there was no provision for preparing some without. Items we had specifically not ordered were served to both myself and my husband. Quality of the breakfast was good.

Review 50:Location great, in the centre of Middleham, with plenty of convenient free parking in the town square. Welcoming ambiance in the public areas of the hotel, with good range of food/drink. Rooms were individually furnished, well equipped and comfortable, our room was a good size, with lovely dark wood carved/mirrored furniture. The staff were extremely helpful, beyond our expectations (our stay was for our son's wedding, we asked where to obtain "brasso" to clean his kit. Rather than direct us to a local shop, the hotel staff brought us both the brasso and a cloth. A sewing kit was also supplied to another wedding guest with a wardrobe malfunction). Breakfast menu offered a good range of choices, cooked to order. We loved Middleham, a town of 800 human inhabitants, 500 racehorses, Richard III's castle and stunning countryside, and would definitely stay at the White Swan again.

Review 51:The only criticism we have ever made is the occasional instance when the restaurant could do with one or two more staff.

Review 52:The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished. We have always been welcomed most warmly and if you have a special event the staff never fail to provide that bit extra. The food is first class.

Review 53:Noise from the market place on the first night and very noisy guests in the early hours of the second night!

Review 54:Good food, very helpful and friendly staff and a location that's convenient for so many interesting places.

Review 55:Giles couldn't have been any more accommodating to the group, we couldn't have asked for more. Nothing was ever too much trouble. I would would definitely stay here again.

Review 56:The key rings, big n bulky, but not a major problem. Couldn't close doors without slamming them.

Review 57:Good breakfast, pleasant staff. We were in Middleham for a family wedding.

Review 58:Lovely hotel on the pretty market square of Middleham. The staff were exceptional. The restaurant is primarily Italian and the food is excellent. Our room was clean, modern and spacious.

Review 59:The room was grubby. Poor lighting in the bar area to read the papers. The breakfast bacon was very thin, dried out so making it difficult to cut!

Review 60:Location. The room was very spacious.

Review 61:Cleanliness of room,Why when travelling with a canine member of the family do hotels assume that cleanliness doesnt matter? The carpet obviously hadn't been hoovered inbetween guests as there were clumps of black hair over the carpet our dog is blue. The toilet was also dirty. The room certainly didnt look like any viewed on the website

Review 62:Locality.

Review 63:Evening meal took a long time to come. Staff not particularly professional......and no one in particular seemed to be managing the hotel. Hotel room a little shabby, bathroom door didn't shut probably. Will try somewhere different in Middleham next year!

Review 64:Fantastic location with a nice large room and comfortable bed. Food taste and quality was good as was the wine choice. Good breakfast.

Review 65:Thoroughly enjoyed the white swan due to the staff, location and our room. We got exactly what we expected when arriving with pleasant and helpful staff giving us advice on where to stop off in the dales. The village is picture perfect and includes a stunning castle ruins along with fantastic views. Enjoyed our time there all the more due to the hotel.

Review 66:Not a dislike of such but the room was ready for an upgrade. With the room being on the front and facing the market square it was a little noisy at times.

Review 67:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a tiny problem with the room not being ready but this was soon sorted and we were well compensated for the inconvenience. Both the bar area and dining room are excellent as was the breakfast. Good outside seating and the great weather combined to make our stay superb.

Review 68:The firedoor on the first floor closed very loud. But this is only a "problem" when you go to bed early...

Review 69:The Breakfast is wonderful and also our dinner we had have there was really tasty.

Review 70:A mislaid room key was handed in at reception yet no contact from staff to say it had been found! Not good at 1 am in the morning trying to get in!

Review 71:Good location.

Review 72:No negatives.

Review 73:The staff were friendly and very helpful, even driving us to our evening function because they had problems finding a taxi. Breakfast was delicious, freshly prepared, and our stay was very good value.

Review 74:We stayed for 2 nights Friday and Saturday with friends both havinglovely rooms overlooking the market squareWe found the location great and good for visiting the surrounding area, staff very friendly and we enjoyed the early morning parade of the beautiful horses who are stabled in this area. We will be visiting again in the near future
