Reviews for Grapes Hotel Maentwrog
Review 1:The weather!!!
Review 2:General ambience in the hotel. Comfort, large room and bathroom, excellent shower, lots of hot water, friendly helpful staff, good food - evening meal and breakfast.
Review 3:Dining room had good views but lacked atmosphere and was sometimes a little on the cold side
Review 4:Nice tastefull contemporary decor in bedroms and ensuites. Staff were very helpful Excellant location to visit many wonderful places
Review 5:Nothing to dislike really
Review 6:Everything worked and was nice and clean, they even offered a good selection of DVD's outside the rooms which I took advantage of when the TV/satellite went down due to the very high winds.
Review 7:Room was clean but very very dowdy. Black tape and duck tape holding things together and orange mould round bath/shower. One bath towel for 2 people and 1/4 loo roll. Was taken to the room but no mention of breakfast times etc and was just pointed towards the door of the room.
Review 8:Great location for exploring the Snowdonia region. Nice breakfast.
Review 9:everything was good, no complains
Review 10:Friendly staff, good pub, good rooms size and cleanses . I recommend the place for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday
Review 11:We didn't have any bad experience.
Review 12:The staff was very friendly and always ready to help. The food served at the restaurant is amazing and the rooms are very comfortable.
Review 13:Dirty tiles in bathroom, cobwebs in bedroom & dining area, dust in bedroom. Staircase area needed some TLC. All in all a bit shabby.
Review 14:Friendly staff & tasty cooked breakfast
Review 15:Hearing other people in the night. Not the hotels fault, just other guests being noisy.
Review 16:The food is delicious. And a well thought out menu including details of Gluten Free options Prices very reasonable. Staff were very warm and friendly
Review 17:Fit and finish was a little low, paint flaking, mould on tiles, water bubbling up bath plug hole when running sink and quite a small bed for two people. Food was a little basic, tasted like frozen mash and bisto gravy, meat over done.
Review 18:Lovely old building in lovely surroundings. Staff friendly and helpful. Food service was fast and big portions. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 19:Breakfast was only available after 8am, so as a business traveller had to leave earlier with a kindly supplied Cheese Sandwich. Noise from the bar was a little intrusive in the room but was all quiet by 11pm
Review 20:good friendly bar, room was newly refurbished, clean and tidy. Its better for walkers and holiday makers than a business stop over, but then that is its prime target.
Review 21:The room was very comfortable and well-appointed. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, with plenty of choice. The staff were welcoming, helpful and absolutely charming.
Review 22:Nothing.
Review 23:Food was extremely good. Very peaceful area but close to main roads so could visit other areas easily. Everything about The Grapes was first class.
Review 24:We had to wait quit a long time for our dinner order to be taken (we actually went to the bar to place our order). However this was offset by the quality of the food.
Review 25:The food was excellent and the room very comfortable.
Review 26:The chops on our meal were very tough and pale colour and no taste. The rest of the meal was ok.
Review 27:The evening meal was very disappointing but when we complained we were given a refund for one main course and a free drink. No problem.
Review 28:We found the room small and in this regard a little disappointing
Review 29:The help we received from the assistant manager in relation to our next booking elsewhere.
Review 30:There is a 2GBP charge for using a credit card which was not made clear in any of the pre-booking data.
Review 31:Great location for exploring North Wales. A lovely country setting that meant an extremely quiet nights sleep. The staff were friendly and attentive.
Review 32:The staff had no interest in us until we were leaving, the dining tables were sticky. The breakfast wasn't very nice, the sausages were particularly bad. You had to make your own toast but we didn't know this until we went to ask and noticed the toaster round the corner.
Review 33:The bedroom and en suite were both lovely. The evening meal was really good.
Review 34:When using the basin it made the bath waste gurgle and bubble up. Bath/shower water slow to drain away.
Review 35:The Food, the Staff and the Hospitality were FAULTLESS. Extensive evening meal and breakfast choices including several vegetarian selections. Room was quiet considering it's a popular and busy pub.
Review 36:Room clean but lots of dust high up on the curtains, ceiling. Do understand though as very high ceilings.
Review 37:Friendly staff and a comfortable room in a lovely area.
Review 38:Our room was just a little small but not too much of a problem. Unfortunately the booking we made for dinner was not recorded so we had to eat in the bar and share a table with others.
Review 39:A popular little pub with nice meals. A comfortable room and good position for exploring that area of Wales.
Review 40:Expected much better from the reviews. Hotel is very shabby: paint flaked off bedroom windows (inside), stair carpet dirty, banisters thick with dust and walls needed painting. Surprising amount of traffic noise from road down valley which began before six am. View of overgrown garden and local graveyard. Disappointing experience.
Review 41:Restaurant food was good. Friendly landlord.
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:Everything was lovely. Staff couldn't have made us more welcome. The food was excellent and our room was clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the 'pub/hotel' experience. Ticked all our expected boxes. Would definately go again.
Review 44:If there was anything it would be the food. A little pricy for food that was promoted as being home made. I had a burger - which was 2 burgers in a bun that appeared to be processed, I would have loved less burger, but better quality. Again the same with the very poor quality sausages on the breakfast. Loved them to have been able to boast lots of local seasonal foods!!
Review 45:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There to help, and the service was very good.
Review 46:I requested earlier check in. It was confirmed by booking.com.When we arrived they were not helpful and we had to leave and check in after 3. The hotel and restaurant were not very clean and although some of the staff were very nice one was rude and unhelpful. We were overcharged on food which I didn't notice until after we checked out. Shame really as the location was perfect. Wouldn't go back to the Grapes.
Review 47:The location.
Review 48:Wifi non-existent in the bedrooms and unreliable in public areas. There is lots to see in the area but driving is very slow on narrow roads so it takes longer than you expect to get to Caernafon, Harlech or Snowdon.
Review 49:The setting is really beautiful (at least the rear rooms overlooking the church, which are also free of noise from the road). Staff were very friendly and the food is really excellent (massive breakfasts, fantastic dinners). Prices very reasonable.
Review 50:Hotel in picturesque location. It was an attractive and well decorated, maintained building. Full of character, comfortable and welcoming. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Food was delicious and excellent value.
Review 51:The hotel was very warm and welcoming with very friendly staff! The room was cozy, spacious and very comfortable which made for a very good nights sleep! Me and my partner both enjoyed the stay and would deffinately return!
Review 52:Walls are paper thin, got woke up in the middle of the night with the couple in the next room snoring!! when i pulled back the bed covers to get in to bed there was a spider under the covers and dead flies squashed into the inside of the curtains.Breakfast was cold and when i was asked if i wanted toast and i said yes i got two pieces of warm bread.
Review 53:Room decor was good
Review 54:Hotel was in a great location for driving to all that Snowdonia had to offer. The staff were very helpful. The hotel was very comfortable and we had a great stay. Would definitely stay again.
Review 55:That you can check in from 1pm. You can pick a DVD to watch from their collection. Nice big bathroom with free shower jel etc. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 56:Our room was a bit noisy, being over the main bar! And next to the kitchen extractor! But we did have a great view, so I guess you can't have everything.....
Review 57:The views, from the bedroom and the dining room, and the lovely, accommodating staff. When we asked for something not on the menu, it was willingly prepared for us.
Review 58:nowhere to hang towels or clothes in bathroom. Manager on holiday so report of no hot water in bathroom not followed up, although it was probably thought that resetting the switch had solved the problem. No alternative exit in case of fire.
Review 59:food in restaurant was excellent. View from bedroom superb.
Review 60:Nothing to not like.
Review 61:Really enjoyed our stay, very comfortable room with great bathroom, excellent food, nice cosy feeling in the downstairs public areas.
Review 62:Poorly organised. Lack of communication between staff, who are nevertheless attentive to customers, causes the long delays that sometimes occur (as noted in other reviews) in serving food.
Review 63:Friendly. Convenient location. Well equipped, with reliable Wi-Fi as a bonus. Clean, apart from at ceiling level. Excellent beer. Excellent food.
Review 64:Staff were really friendly Location is great Bed was really comfortable Food was delicious Good selection of drinks We only got back home 3 hours ago and are already planning our next visit!
Review 65:Slightly noisy at night (from the bar downstairs). Breakfast was only between 8am and 9am which meant we missed it as we had to leave at 7.30am.
Review 66:Nice rooms, the view and character of the building. Friendly host.
Review 67:Exterior not very enticing and rooms rather tired,
Review 68:Room was clean and tidy, good beer and wine selection, great food in the resteraunt, nice breakfast at a good price.
Review 69:On arrival staff were overwhelmed with customers and didn't appear to know what to do or in what order.- Too few staff! Next day without the pressure same staff were good.
Review 70:The room was small, and on the main road which was very very noisy. Also I asked for lamb for my dinner but they had run out. It was ONLY 7.30 pm - don't advertise something for sale if you don't have it
Review 71:Good, wifi and staff
Review 72:Stayed only for one night as the hotel was fully booked for the rest of the weekend. And I'm not surprised. It's a great hotel, great value for money and the staff are really lovely. The breakfast room has an amazing view.
Review 73:No handrail for getting in and out of shower, not enough shelves in bathroom. Front door onto a very busy main road. Fold up bed not very comfortable.
Review 74:Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room checked and drinks replenished everyday. Very clean.
Review 75:Nothing major after the first day we had problems with the tele not the fault of the hotel
Review 76:The staff very friendly and very helpful always asking if we were OK good parking facilities
Review 77:windows could do with double glazing, didn't block noise from the road or cold, nothing major though
Review 78:clean room, nice bathroom, staff, surroundings, car park
Review 79:Couldn't stay at the Grapes but I can wholeheartedly recommend the food, the restaurant ambience and the bar!
Review 80:A booking mix up meant we were given alternative accommodation at the Oakley elsewhere. Simon at the Grapes settled the difference and gave us dinner on the louse. The food was terrific and in any other circumstances we would have gladly paid
Review 81:Staff were polite, pleasant and friendly. Hotel was easy to find and in a lovely setting. Evening meals were of excellent quality, as was the breakfast both with enough choice. Room was clean and comfortable. Decent choice of tipple..
Review 82:The service in the restaurant was very slow:I had to wait 25 mins. for the starter and then a further 30 mins. for the main course, although when the food arrived it was very good. This, incidentally, in a restaurant which only had 6 people in it, 2 of whom were still waiting after I finished my meal.
Review 83:The room and facilities were clean and well priced.
Review 84:The hotel's plumbing was rather noisy. We unfortunately also had loud neighbours next door and during the night above us. The food was mediocre...soggy chip & an uninspiring menu. What lets the hotel down mostly is the apalling service. One and a half hours waiting for dinner to be served is unacceptable.
Review 85:The view from room no 5. Nothing else was particularly special.
Review 86:Had to share a hair dryer between all rooms. Dining room very noisy due to booked large party.
Review 87:Value for money. Good view. Quiet location. Ideal base for Zip World and portmeirion.
Review 88:Nothing other than the shower wasn't draining properly.
Review 89:The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Snowdonia. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast is excellent and the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. Definitely eat in the grapes as the food is a step up from traditional pub food and is well presented and good portions. Highly recommended.
Review 90:Hotel lacking some basic maintenance and could be cleaner in places (lots of dust/dirt behind sink in bathroom. Cobwebs in lights and at the side of the wardrobe)
Review 91:Exceptionally comfortable bed, good sized room. Excellent food. Staff very friendly and efficient.
Review 92:Not much mobile signal in the hotel, but all in all nothing to dislike really...but like i said, was only there for the night and breakfast in the morning.
Review 93:Only stayed the night after a wedding at a nearby hotel, but everything was great including early check in; a pint and chat with the landlord after coming back and most important a late breakfast after not getting up early enough after a heavy day at the wedding. Landlord was also kind enough to order me a taxi to get me to my car the next morning.
Review 94:Unfortunately the hotel is on a road which became busy just before 6.00 AM. It may be that there are quieter rooms on the other side of the building.
Review 95:Staff were very friendly and accommodating when I had to change my plans
Review 96:Food provided by Simon was excellent. The hotel is comfortable. Staff were friendly. The bar young lady was affable and had a good friendly attitude which were beyond her young age.
Review 97:Nothing not to like.
Review 98:Traditional, character hotel in pretty little village, comfortable and great value for money. Simon, the owner, couldn't have been a better host.
Review 99:Very comfortable room (especially the bed!), excellent food (both dinner and the wonderful breakfast), friendly staff and super location - a wonderful base for exploring Harlech, Porthmadog, Criccieth and the steam railways of Snowdonia. All that and Fairtrade refreshments in the bedrooms too (not to mention the fabulous Welsh singing from the locals in the bar!). Thank you to Simon and all the staff - you made us feel very welcome indeed.
Review 100:I can't speak Welsh, but that's my own fault. Took my own wife instead of someone elses, but that's my own fault also.
Review 101:general jollyness of the staff
Review 102:The owner/manager was friendly and helpful. The pub was quaint with an excellent view and the rooms were modern and very comfortable. The evening meal was superb and the breakfast was also very good.
Review 103:Very busy in evening meant a slow service in pub/restaurant, but the man seemed to be a one man army!
Review 104:Easy to find. Friendly staff. Great onsite pub. Scenic location. Modern clean room.
Review 105:Really warm welcome and happy friendly staff can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable the food was really good and the room was confortable and really clean be more then happy to go back again in the future
Review 106:Nothing to complain about at all.
Review 107:We really liked the fact that the new manager was making such a big effort to make guests welcome and provide a great service. We felt looked after and made to feel at home from the minute we arrived. I would recommend this hotel and would return with no hesitation. Great room, lovely bath after day on the hills, warm and cosy and a good meal with great service from all the staff. Well done everyone.
Review 108:Form me was too cold -not enought heat and very big noise from downstairs bar.The best option to go for drink to bar and sleep after 12.00 p.m.
