Reviews for The Thames Riviera Hotel

Review 1:Stayed here one night as I was going for a meal in Bray. The hotel is located close to the centre and we had a room overlooking the river. Our room (104) was large and spacious with a big comfy bed. Bathroom is basic But adequate. We didn't eat breakfast at the restaurant (it seemed expensive at £12 each). Car parking was free which was a good bonus for such a central location. Staff were friendly, although we did ask for a bit of advice on the local area and didn't get much useful information.

Review 2:We were visiting our granddaughter in hospital and this was just in the right place for us. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room we had overlooked the river from two windows.

Review 3:There was no cold water in the room - the taps and the toilet flush were all hot! The shower was not hot as the control was broken.

Review 4:The room was comfortable, the staff were very helpful and the location was great.

Review 5:The Executive Room was not of the standard I have come to expect as a seasoned traveller. The room was very tired, hairdryer gave up working and replacement took over 30 mins to arrive after chasing it. Duvet not big enough for 2 people staying. Scrambled eggs had slightly browned and then served in their cooking juices too much liquid on the plate.

Review 6:The location was the key thing for visitng family and friends plus wanting to visit Marlow and Windsor. Friendly Staff.

Review 7:The only one thing the towels were lovely and clean but they smelled of bleach bit nice

Review 8:The hotel was lovely staff very caring great value lovely spot I would recommend it too family and friends

Review 9:Noisy! Managers attitude to disgruntled guest was shocking and in view of all guests was poor! Unmanned reception on arrival.

Review 10:Room was ok with comfy bed but had I paid full price for it, I would have been disappointed!

Review 11:A minor thing but I would have liked spare blankets and more cartons of milk in the room.

Review 12:Great last minute deal, well presented, large and comfortable room with view of the river.

Review 13:when the receptionist couldn't (initially) find a record of our booking shower was very noisy

Review 14:full English brekkie ! lovely location on the river helpful, welcoming staff stocking on the door handle for xmas day was a nice touch

Review 15:Very good value. Lovely room and staff very accommodating, they kindly put us in a room with a sofa bed as there was no twin bed rooms available. Lovely view!

Review 16:Dreadful corridor to the upper rooms - every floor board felt loose and squeaked, causing unnecessary noise when trying to sleep

Review 17:Excellent room - bright, clean and recently refurbished.

Review 18:Receptionist, a young gentleman from Cincinnati, was excellent. He was very welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Room was basic, but clean and comfortable.

Review 19:We found the matress not comfortable, as you could feel the springs, which was not easy to sleep on. For the price we paid it was nice, but would not have liked to pay the full price.

Review 20:I dont think there was a lift and we were on the second floor. Not a major problem for us, but it could be for others

Review 21:The view of the river, the location and the room was lovely

Review 22:I didn't find anything wrong. The staff was too professional whereas I prefer friendlier probably.

Review 23:We have stayed in a very large room with a balcony that overlooks Thames from side. I was there to take a training course and I had a mock exams to do in the evening. The cool thing is our room had a sofa and I was able to study in the comfort of a home. The bed was large and comfy as well. I have to say I loved the size of the room and the size of the bathroom. The room had ironing equipment and a large closet which is a great plus for me.

Review 24:Was told a few weeks before our stay that food would be available from the bar as the main restaurant was fully booked. However the hotel made a last minute decision not to serve food in the bar. We had to make other arrangements at very short notice after a very long day. Lots of noise from the busy main road.

Review 25:Convenient location for purpose of visit.

Review 26:This hotel is in a lovely location and we had a room with views of the river. The hotel is old and the building is a maintenance nightmare but every effort is made to make your stay comfortable

Review 27:Bar area was rather 'dark' in the afternoon, bit 'oppressive'. There was a tribute singer (Adele) the evening we stayed which we were not aware of - the restaurant closed at 5pm to faciliate this event meaning the restaurant closed at 5pm which unfortunately threw our plans for the day out. It would have been helpful to have been made aware of this at time of booking.

Review 28:Staff were very cheerful and helpful. Location of hotel was very nice. Restaurant area bright with lovely river views and tables spaced so that other diners were not in too close proximity, it felt spacious. Food was very nice and well presented.

Review 29:I ordered room service which hadn't arrived after 40 minutes. I called the restaurant to find out how much longer it would be and was told the ticket had been lost so they would bring it asap. I was given 20% discount as a courtesy but it was a bit annoying. Also the in room information pack states that room service is served between 12 and 9:30 (I think!) but I called to order just before 9 and was told the kitchen was closed.

Review 30:The room was much bigger than expected and was clean and comfortable.

Review 31:I think the room was planned for 1 person not 2 as booked. Only one bottle of water, only one dressing gown...things like this are the nice touches, but it felt like the room catered for 1 business person perhaps? The shower is also built for short people, couldn't fit under it and I'm by no means too tall.

Review 32:Lovely view, nice room.

Review 33:Didn't like when I got there had to wait at reception for 15 mins before I got served then they sent me to room 212 which already had guests in it how embarrassing so I went bk down reception and they told me to wait again wasn't happy at all!!!!

Review 34:I liked the view from my room but the food and drinks were expensive.

Review 35:Lovely stay - room bigger than I had ever imagined - so spacious - asked for top high floor which I got. Also a view of the Thames which was amazing .Beds well comfy and spacious. Not forgetting the really friendly staff the Male on reception when I checked in was amazing - well friendly - didn't eat in the restaurant thins time but will nap time time looking forward to going back

Review 36:The place doesnt look much from the outside.

Review 37:Good value. Room had all you need - tea, coffee, hairdryer, iron and board. Nice bar area downstairs. Very helpful reception staff.

Review 38:The window in the room needs to be either repaired or replaced as the wood is rotten and also in the morning there was condensation on the glass which will lead to mould etc!

Review 39:Food excellent though pricey but they do take Taste Card. Very friendly and helpful staff. Overlooks river Convenient to Taplow Station, M4, Windsor and Ascot

Review 40:The narrow twisiting stairs could be awkward with large suitcases

Review 41:Location on the river Thames is both scenic & convenient for Maidenhead town centre

Review 42:room windows tatty and dated extractor in bathroom not working no curtain or blind at the bathroom window

Review 43:booking in was quick and easy room was clean and warm beds comfortable

Review 44:Unable to regulate heating in room became very warm and stuffy over night could not ventilate

Review 45:Location great staff excellent great breakfast's and evening dinner loved it

Review 46:Considering the room was booked last May, we were disappointed that our outlook was a flat, moss covered roof and the heating or cooking ventilation. Zero view of the river from our room. Appreciate it was a value deal but £69 without breakfast might have afforded a prettier room!

Review 47:Convenience for getting to Hedsor House for a wedding.

Review 48:I was surprised when we arrived that we were not staying in the main hotel as the picture shows. There is a " lodge " which is a modern block opposite the main hotel. I was disappointed to start with but it didn't spoil our stay though it would have been better if we'd known beforehand.

Review 49:the staff are very friendly. The room was warm and comfortable.the food was excellent.

Review 50:Disappointed with evening meal the fish and chips was so small it would have feed a small child not a man

Review 51:Staff were wonderful also Kerri on reception was very helpful and pleasant hotel very clean and the bedroom was beautiful would stay again

Review 52:It was cold in the room, adjustable radiator didn't work, but I was later provided with a heater which I needed to turn on/off every 20 minutes.

Review 53:Very good Wi-Fi

Review 54:Manipulative staff. Very overpriced food. Rooms are NOT in the hotel but a building behind with lots of narrow stairs. Loud location. Uncomfortable beds. Poor Wifi. Bait and switch room rates with hidden charges. This place is clearly designed to separate guests form their money as fast as possible. It is cold, clinical and despite the smarmy superficial politeness of the desk clerk who liberally uses the word "sir", it is NOT user friendly.

Review 55:The location

Review 56:Upon opening the curtains on a glorious sunny morning, the fan supplied was not sufficient to cool the room during my final hours before departure.

Review 57:Convenience & location

Review 58:Very expensive for what it is. Not good value for money at all. Couldn't fit us in the restaurant on the night we arrived, ended up having to eat dinner at the bar. Thought the room was quite nice until we discovered mould stains on the bedsheets. Only one light in the room worked. Although I know this doesn't affect many people, being lactose intolerant, the hotel did not have soya milk for a cup of tea, did not offer to get any in which is a normal response if they don't stock such items, I had to go myself to the garage (only opposite so wouldn't have put staff out much) to get some. Paying what we were for a room I would have liked to think the staff would go to the trouble.

Review 59:Lovely surroundings on the river with the wildlife etc, evening food was quite nice despite where we are it!

Review 60:We did try to check in early at around midday but were told we could not because the receptionist had not had the booking spreadsheet or similar.

Review 61:Nothing really

Review 62:Room wasn't very clean at all. Nothing liked it was described in booking the room upgrade not with the money paid. stayed in better and cleaner and better value for money!

Review 63:Location and staff are great

Review 64:The room was lovely, overlooking the river and I was happy with it. If being a bit picky, the bedroom was a little tired and could probably do with a bit of TLC to spruce it up. The same could be said about the bar area. But having said that I was pleased with my stay and would come again.

Review 65:A nice hotel, next to Maidenhead Bridge, overlooking the river. Lovely view from the riverside bedrooms. Staff and food excellent.

Review 66:Room, carpet and furniture looking a little tired in places. Metal venetian blind in bathroom too short and rusting in places. Wooden surround on balcony rotten through in places. Pillows very thin - needed 4 for normal nights sleep!

Review 67:Staff very welcoming with good customer care. Room had a lovely view with balcony, decent sized bathroom and bedroom. Breakfast wasn't included and well priced for quality and choice. Nice to have a fan in the room as windows don't open just the patio door.

Review 68:Cramped room, strange shape with a gap between curtains and window so not very dark. Very sqeeky floorboards although neighbours were not noisy. Cooked breakfast was cold and we had to wait half an hour for it because they lost our order.

Review 69:We checked in really late after a wedding and it was not a problem. Staff were friendly and polite.

Review 70:Hotel is a little 'tired' and the decoration in need of some tlc.

Review 71:Fabulous location right by the river and a lovely park. Staff were lovely and really helpful.

Review 72:The hotel was so warm although we did have fans in our room, which helped

Review 73:The staff were so friendly on reception and in the restaurant. Food was lovely and prices were reasonable

Review 74:I could really feel my hip pressing against something lying in bed, which was quite uncomfortable, like a spring or a board. The internet was a bit tempromentel and kept kicking out. Really would of liked to of had breakfast but I had too leave before it started.

Review 75:I thought the service was great, reception was helpful and clear. Felt quite at ease immediately. Loved the room and facilities for the price.

Review 76:Very old and worn out room, the bed was really uncomfortable and you could feel the springs. Tired looking place overall.

Review 77:Nice location on the river and tables and chairs outside to sit in the sun.

Review 78:Had to change rooms 3 times because WIFI did not work that well. After having moved 3 times from one room to the other I ended up in a room where WIFI was working reasonably ok.

Review 79:Comfortable bed, good breakfast. Nice surrounding nearby the Thames

Review 80:Bed waaay to soft. Wifi was very unstable in the main building, uselessin the adjacent building (where my colleague stayed).

Review 81:Nice staff, very clean room, decent burger in the restaurant,

Review 82:Staff at the bar not very friendly. Ignored us whilst waiting to be served. Appreciate they were busy but an acknowledgement would have gone a long way.

Review 83:Location

Review 84:Rooms although clean needed updating and the breakfast was very poor and lukewarm.

Review 85:Location was excellent 10min walk into maidstone and from there you can catch a bus to lots of locations.

Review 86:Radiator was on full blast in bathroom and wouldn't turn down/off. Could hear people in the next room using their bathroom.

Review 87:Bathroom was newly refurbished by looks of things. Bedroom could do with a refurbished too!

Review 88:The stairs (but top floor has the best view)

Review 89:Nice quiet comfortable room overlooking the river, breakfast first class, good local knowledgeable cab service.

Review 90:Nothing significant. If I had to put something...the veneer on the door to the bathroom was peeling off. However, in this instance I was travelling on my own, but if I had my wife, who is disabled, the facilities do not look very disabled friendly with the steps at front, and inside.

Review 91:Good Location, Room smart, tidy and very clean. Staff very courteous and friendly.

Review 92:bar drinks prices were high bath towel needed to be bigger left my shampoo & conditioner by mistake and it went missing

Review 93:location was nice standard bedroom but had a nice balcony staff were great value for money

Review 94:The hotel is right on the river. The view from our room was of the river. There were tables to sit out beside the river. Easy walk to the town. Clean and quality room. Staff pleasant and helpful. Restaurant and bar very nice

Review 95:The pressure in the shower was very low -shower unit was also very noisy when turned on-and the mattress was rather uncomfortable. Hotel wi-fi was poor.

Review 96:The location and the view from the window were great-also the front desk staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was average and simply furnished but clean (although the shower unit could use some updating as signs of mold were apparent in corners) and the hotel had free overflow parking available

Review 97:Confusion at booking stage over ages of children...conflicting info in emails and online...one saying max age 4 another saying max age 12. I called to ask about this and was asked to call back tomorrow when manager would be in. Called back and staff were very helpful and cleared up confusion. Overall very satisfied, but conflicting info may put off other customers.

Review 98:Good location, friendly helpful staff, good value for family of 4

Review 99:As we were on the 3rd floor a lift would have been welcomed.

Review 100:Very comfortable room with good en-suite. Location was great with good access to places of interest and train station. Lovely riverside garden.

Review 101:We stayed on two seperate nights. One night in room 107 which was really loud with noise coming up from the bar below. Second night was in room 104 which was quieter until guests were outside late talking and the sound just came up through.

Review 102:Views of the river, free parking and close to park and river walk.

Review 103:No air conditioning, but they did provide a fan which helped.

Review 104:This hotel was great value for money. All the staff were fantastic and helpful. The restaurant food was lovely and the chef was very accommodating when I told them I was allergic to wheat and gluten. They made me a special roast dinner! We spent the day sat in the garden next to the river listening to live music in the sunshine. We will definitely be coming back to this spot

Review 105:The room was on the corner next to the bridge so there was noise from about 4-00am. Due to location you couldn't open the windows and whilst they provided a table fan the room got hot and stuffy overnight. The Wi-Fi when using Skype was a problem which when travelling overseas is how to keep in touch.

Review 106:Location of hotel. Full bar and restaurant service was good

Review 107:Bed was extremely uncomfortable could not sleep at all all night it was really really hard and the whole point of staying was sleeping. For that reason alone we would not stay again, shame!

Review 108:Everything was good staff food and location

Review 109:Having stayed here a few years ago, the bedroom was looking rather tired. The bed/ mattress could do with changing.

Review 110:The location, the staff, breakfast and cleanliness of the hotel.

Review 111:Rooms could be improved by having air conditioning especially as there were notices about not opening the windows.

Review 112:Location. Friendliness and efficiency of staff. Good value.

Review 113:car was very busy. Maybe needs to have over flow car park more noticable

Review 114:location was very good not there long enough to try food .Room we had was really nice

Review 115:Stayed for one night, single room. Very inexpensive room, which was very well equipped, en-suite, iron/board, TV, free Wifi, river view, extremely comfortable bed.

Review 116:Small bed, not given a room with a bath (unclear at booking stage), insect infestation (just need fly screens on windows), poor ventilation at night time (had to keep window shut), room we were given was small and cramped.

Review 117:Location, restaurant, helpful staff

Review 118:I couldn't access wifi from bedroom, but could from cafe. We felt that the decor of hotel was a little tired.

Review 119:Staff were all very friendly and the position of the hotel was very convenient for the river Thames.

Review 120:Although on the river most rooms look onto the main road or the parking lot. Rooms are basic and need of new furniture, however comfortable and OK On a hot day could be uncomfortable.

Review 121:Good location on river, comfortable bed. Friendly receptionist, good pub and restuarant

Review 122:Very warm when I stayed and couldn't open window due to insects. Given a fan but made it difficult to sleep. Food and drink very expensive for what it was, decided not to pay for breakfast and get it elsewhere.

Review 123:Good room and price.

Review 124:Hotel overall felt a bit tired- the bathroom door was a state (chipboard peeling away), the decor (in the corridors especially) felt a bit dated, the towels provided were thin and worn.

Review 125:Staff very friendly and helpful, room very clean. We asked for a travel cot which was erected and made for us when we arrived.

Review 126:right on the river... if you don't like flies don't stay here..... Do not open windows if facing river.... Bar service dire!!!!!!

Review 127:right on the river :)

Review 128:Advised to keep windows closed due to proximity of the river therefore unbearably hot and uncomfortable. Also hotel is on very busy main road. Description of double rooms very exaggerated ie no balcony, separate entrance and more!

Review 129:Went for a wedding. Paid for executive room. Got nothing extra for it apart from perhaps a better specification of bathroom. NO AIRCON in hot weather and asked not to open windows due to midgies getting into room. Do NOT disturb sign did not stop housekeeping staff from knocking on our door at 8:30 am waking us up!

Review 130:Good location. Freshly cooked breakfast rather than buffet

Review 131:Double bed up against wall, differcult for couple with mobility problems. to get in and out of. Lunch time set menus advertised in rooms and in hotel reception area, restaurant staff unsure of the days menu, than bought one with a higher price printed on it. A member of staff went to get a current days menu Barman wasnt aware of a lunch time set menu even though it is promoted in large writing around the bar area. He was very polite and helpful and went and found out information for us. We ended up not dinning as none of the mains were to my husbands likeing. A situatuion that could have been avoided with better communications.

Review 132:Friendly receptionist and bar man. Hotels position. relaxed bar area.

Review 133:We couldn't open the windows because of flying insects coming off the river. The room was a little hot & stuffy although there was a fan, it was inadequate. Perhaps think of air con. Even though we had paid well in advance our charge was debited after our departure & we had to wait 2 days to get the money back.

Review 134:The room was nice & comfortable. It was adequate for our needs & one night stay The staff were helpful, professional & polite. Location was lovely.

Review 135:Room was very hot & rather noisy as facing the main road

Review 136:Ideal location for our passion for walking & exploring new areas. Staff were excellant

Review 137:Would have prefered to be in the main building and not on the gound floor of the other building. Bed was hard. Could have done with a safe box.

Review 138:Good location. Easy parking. Nice views. Room was clean and very functional.
