Reviews for The Bull and Bush Hotel Kingston

Review 1:The staff were very good

Review 2:I actually didn't like the idea of just one towel. The wardrobes looked bad when u open it the back is all broken. The view is bad nothing to see apart from surrounded by block of flats .No residents parking.Poor location

Review 3:Loose tap on the sink, new looking Windows but wouldn't hold itself open. Very small room with scuffed walls and dold carpet.

Review 4:The room was clean and the mattresses were very comfortable. It was the cheapest room in the local vicinity and you get what you pay for. Bathroom was very clean.

Review 5:The room was a bit shabby-walls needed painting, carpet tiles needed throwing away. The bed had obviously been damaged at some stage and a repair had been attempted by placing a piece of laminate over the broken section in the middle, which when you lay on it had the effect of raising your hips up higher than your feet or head - just throw it away guys!! The odd thing or two didn't work/was missing but nothing major. Overall, I would say this place is okay if you are looking for a cheap overnight stop and aren't really too bothered by the odd failing. If you are travelling with family/wife/girlfriend/husband, pay a bit more and stay somewhere nice.

Review 6:There was nothing to get overjoyed about.

Review 7:The value was not up to the price. Sorry, but this was not a £55 a night hotel. No chair in room. No decor - just bare.

Review 8:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.

Review 9:Nothing. The only toilet in the tiny room was blocked with hair and toilet roll. So clearly no one had bothered to clean or check or they thought they could get away with it. Disgusting ! Bed sheets looked as if they hadn't been changed from the last person.

Review 10:Not much. You get what you pay for but £50 is too much for this hostel type hotel located on an estate in south london :|

Review 11:Not a hotel at all a converted pub which is being or has been converted into what only be described as an emergency hostel Nowhere near the centre or train station no facilities there or nearby. Very very noisy during the early hours of the morning people banging trying to gain entry. One towel between two people and not even bath size.

Review 12:It was clean It was warm

Review 13:Toilet didn't flush properly. They make you pay with cash or willcharge you on your debit card with over 3% tax/vat, therefore mademe walk back into the rain to get them cash. Walls were paper thin and Icould hear the man in the room next me snoring. Neighbourhood alsodoesn't seem that safe. Wouldn't stay here again.

Review 14:The room size was tiny but also the bathroom was quite dirty and the plug holes were blocked.

Review 15:Helpful staff when asking how to get into town on Saturday night for food/drinks.

Review 16:Although it's walking distance from Kingston town centre and nearest bus stop I didn't feel very comfortable on foot woman alone when I returned from evening out, orherwise great

Review 17:Perfect value for money

Review 18:told staff working nights so needed to sleep in the day but housekeeping keep coming in room. To noisy, on last day drove home early so could sleep own bed to get some sleep.

Review 19:location

Review 20:Maybe the TV too small, but not a problem

Review 21:Simply as this:The best welcoming that I recived in a hotel, the young romanian gentleman Andrei was so kind and professional Aswell like the reception team. I will be back asap as I must attend some business in town, thank you guys very nice to see quality and service in the same spot, bravo,I'm grateful, the only inconvenience maybe the soap in the bathroom ( too small,I'm a big lad)))),

Review 22:Had a bit of a hang over in the morning ?

Review 23:Cheap for the area whilst Rugby World cup ? was on. Not luxurious but did the job for somewhere to get your nut down, ya get me.

Review 24:Could do with extra pillows. Was quite basic but that was expected for the price

Review 25:Hotel was within reasonable reach of Twickenham by taxi for the rugby world cup final.

Review 26:Room looked like a hall way, no tea spoon to make tea, pillow case didn't even cover dirty pillow, very out of date. Would not stay here again!! No bar even though site showed this. Was told to pay by cash otherwise a charge would be added.

Review 27:nothing.

Review 28:Hotel filthy throughout On a kitchen sink estate Shower didn't work properly Tea making facilities didn't even include a spoon Housekeeping a joke, just consisted of folding a towel Room never cleaned or bed made Absolute disgrace

Review 29:Nothing

Review 30:Didn't realise it was bang in the middle of a council estate. Sliding door for toilet was hanging off with a huge gap when closed.....no privacy when using the toilet.

Review 31:Wasn't too far from Kingston centre.

Review 32:This hotel is smack bang in the middle of a council estate. The flats overlook the hotel. Very grubby area. It's a converted pub. The 'free' parking is very limited parking on the road outside the hotel.

Review 33:Close enough to walk into town

Review 34:I had to walk 5/10 min to a cash point as i was not allowed to pay by visa they were insistent here. There were no power points near the bedside nor bedside lamps.it was not easy to find and the large doberman near the entrance gate did not make one feel safe.

Review 35:This was a simply a single night and limited expectations i was able to shower and sleep.

Review 36:No food, nowhere to eat locally, regrettably spent more on Taxis than the actual hotel , which it isn't really, just a bed for the night in a glorified dormitory.

Review 37:Staff were good, Room was adequate,

Review 38:In a very run down estate, walls needed painting etc, toilet didn't even flush, cups were dirty, there was a coke bottle holding the window open because it was broken and the room was the smallest I've ever seen!

Review 39:For a cheap stay it was OK but wouldn't use it again, you get what you pay for I suppose.

Review 40:The site is advertised as a hotel, however there was nothing but an ensuite room, no dining facilities at all not even for a breakfast. Not what I expected a 'hotel' to be!

Review 41:Staff were very friendly.

Review 42:Dirty shower and toilet dirty . Wooden blocks holding the bed up. Very uncomfortable bed. A dirty kettle, no spoon or milk and a sandwich box of empty coffee packets. Very thin walls and all topped off with a couple from another room screaming at each other for almost an hour at 3 in the morning Just awful!

Review 43:Nothing!

Review 44:Really noisy until midnight, 2 phone calls from the manager as we were checking in late (to see if we still wanted the room) REALLY noisy plumbing & no facility on site for breakfast.

Review 45:Only bad points no soap in bathroom in room and sheet a little dirty .

Review 46:Short walk into the town . friendly staff . value for money . great for one or 2 nights.

Review 47:told to pay cash on arrival or very high % credit card (%not given). Bit of a smell, i got used to it and not sure what it was but i guess most people wouldn't like it. poor quality shower, but i worked. Seemed dated and not like photos. i had the oppertunity to go back a week later but chose somewhere else instead, think that about sums it up :)

Review 48:comfy bed, good sleep

Review 49:The staff were unhelpful in conveying that they have a checking in timelimit which is not displayed on the website also the room had blackstains on the walls, the coffee and tea were in a plastic box which hadtea granules and sugar granules at the bottom and the toilet in room 42did not flush properly, we tried to address these issues with a memberof staff but could not find one and when we asked about dinner or evenbreakfast the concierge who showed us to our room didn't know.Frankly the room whic was shown on the pictures did not match at all theroom we were given the cleanliness was a big issue and the walls alsohad small cracks which made my girlfriend uncomfortable and thereforecouldn't sleep. Huge disappointment to us especially since it wasour first time visiting Kingston.

Review 50:The balcony where one could go for a smoke

Review 51:Room walls were filthy, the bed head was damaged and scratched. The base of the bed that was visible wad stained. There was a huge dangerous step seperating the bedroom part from the bathroom that you would fall over. The tap in the bathroom was loose. The door to the bedroom did not feel secure - no security chain etc

Review 52:Nothing I walked out without staying

Review 53:Small room which smelt of smoke, very poor facilities, could hear noise between rooms, smallest basin I've ever had, one towel between two, rough area, people arguing and swearing outside during the night, had to pay cash

Review 54:Clean sheets, decent shower

Review 55:Aesthetically better looking from the outside than the inside. Was disappointed by the facilities.

Review 56:The pressure in the shower was great! Bed was more comfortable than it looked.

Review 57:No secure parking as advertised. On suite facilities very poor. Generally rough appearance. Wouldn't stay again and wouldn't recommend. Certainly not worth £65.

Review 58:Noise at night. Staff not available most of the time no bar and a feeling of being left to your own devices. Certainly would never stay there again.

Review 59:Wi fi available

Review 60:A few parts of the property are a bit unfinished and not everything works quite as it should! It has character!

Review 61:It's basic, but it's everything you need and the price is fantastic. The staff were very helpful and the whole experience was painless. They got me to the wedding on time!!!

Review 62:Only having a soap in the bathroom, little shower gels would be nice to complete the room.

Review 63:Was the cheapest and best location for my two nights in Kingston. Lovely that they provided a fan in the rooms. Tea and coffee in the room with vending machine downstairs. Outside rooftop smoking area. Could use side entrance to access rooms. Was lovely for my stay.

Review 64:although outside was cold, the room was very hot. there was a fan which made staying easier but the window could open very little. not sufficient for me. Had problems with wi-fi. sometimes connected sometimes not.

Review 65:good price. clean neat room. fine toilet and shower. close to bus-stops, groceries, shopping centers etc. didnt have noise problem.

Review 66:There was a lot of confusion re the rooms booked I double checked with the young man when I paid in the morning but still Sinead called me to advise I had two rooms with a non occupancy showing. When I explained I had double checked with the young man at reception the response was well he doesn't know. Not very professional attitude

Review 67:Lovely location very quirky staff in hotel in general very pleasant and helpful

Review 68:room 10.. smelt a bit damp/musty, beds felt almost damp so slept on top just glad it wasn't winter, room was basic in décor, had to go out for food as no food was offered in the evening or morning. Not manned at night, surrounding area does not make it feel safe.2 star rating.

Review 69:Only had to stay 1 night.

Review 70:I went 9 in the morning and no one was at the desk and there wasn't even a bell. There should have been a bell. I had to ring the number left on the door. Plus my room wasn't ready so I had to wait for half an hour. Once the room was ready I was let in. The room was nice and clean however there wasn't any materials like soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. They did have towels but I guess you'd have to bring your own stuff.

Review 71:The beds were incredibly comfy. There was a fan even on the hottest of days. Not a lot of noise for outside or the corridor. Nice little budget place

Review 72:Given a twin room not what we booked. Very tiny, no room to move. Afterwe complained we were moved to a double bed room as per booking. Notoiletries not even soap to wash your hands. Bathroom very shabby anddirty. Towels removed and not replaced hence no towels on 2nd night.Lucky we had our own.

Review 73:Room was very dated, tv reception poor, sink too tiny to get kettle filled more than couple of inches and though there were sachets for tea/coffee, there was no spoon. Felt like my stay was unprepared for as no towels initially.

Review 74:The chap that did my check in was pleasant enough

Review 75:I arrived at 11.30am my room war not ready so they gave me a swipe key to access the hotel.Gay me the wrong swipe key so could not access hotel late at night no reply to bell. Had to clime through window as it was raining outside. Tried to access my room with swipe key but another guest was there.

Review 76:Room was small, dusty, tea and coffee etc were just leftovers, bathroom dingy, no toiletries including soap!, no meals..supposed to be renovating but no sign of anything happening, cash only, no dedicated parking...

Review 77:The location was not good The room had old furniture and was dingy, the ensuite was very small. The weather was extremely hot and the double glazed windows on the ground floor wouldn't stay open, and although the manager provided two fans it was like sleeping (or not) in an oven. Even the floor felt warm. Outside the window looked like a rubbish dump. Cheap but never to be repeated.

Review 78:Bedding was clean, one bed was reasonably comfortable, the other one needed a new matress. showeroom and toilet were clean and the shower was good.

Review 79:parking is 'on road' & very busy. Lights flashing on outside wall at night.

Review 80:staff very friendly & very helpful, went out of their way to answer questions & fond travel information for us.

Review 81:I did not have anything to complain about.

Review 82:The place was spotless and the staff more than helpful with a good knowledge of the locality and best places to visit. I knew breakfasts weren`t available but their suggestion of the café two minutes walk away was worth it. Would go back again.

Review 83:Its in the middle of a rough looking housing estate , its an ex pub , with no parking , its protected by a fence , razorwire and the biggest doberman ever. Reception has a street light in it help up by a bag or tarmac , the bathroom smells the shower fitments half missing , the macerator sounds like an earthquake

Review 84:The place is handily located for Kingston or nearby Esher / Sandown

Review 85:The location was appalling and with no car park I had to park my car next really rough flats and feared it would be vandalised. The hotel charges for credit card transactions and wanted cash, then had no money to provide me with change. The view from my room was of smashed window frames. Ghastly.

Review 86:Free Wifi was helpful.

Review 87:Noisy at night. WiFi intermittent. Not enough sockets in room. Free parking...very limited spaces. Decor shabby.

Review 88:Not a lot! Bed was comfortable though.

Review 89:There were only two thin pillows for a double bed. The tioilet kept permiating a sewer smell. Once I'd figured out where it was coming from I had to shut the toilet lid and close the bathroom door, I couldn't smell it after that which was good.

Review 90:Room and bathroom were clean, plenty of wardrobe/drawer space also.

Review 91:Rooms tiny, shabby and very basic. The walls were far too thin and I could hear clearly activity in other rooms. Not even able to have a drink at this hotel, let alone any food.

Review 92:No traffic noise

Review 93:Room wasn't that clean could of done with a Hoover. Blinds didn't fit the window so the light was beaming in from first light.

Review 94:Staf were nice and helpful Bathroom was clean and tidy

Review 95:Very hot in the room and lack of ac or fresh air. Too noisy - we could hear everything that the other visitors were doing in their rooms from conversations to using the bathroom etc. We did not sleep well at all.

Review 96:Excellent service from the guys at reception, lovely staff. Very welcoming, helpful and accommodating. Safe parking.

Review 97:Arrived and told we had a Superior Room the reception was a cupboard. The room had a double bed and a single bed, I had asked for twin beds. The room was so small it was edging your way into bed. Shower had a moldon the curtain (I took photos to show others). This was a tiny area.I was told my neighbouring room to stop talking at 10.15 p.m because they could hear us we are two ladies over 60 who had just come in after having dinner and had not been in the room 10 minutes. The adjoining rooms woke us up at 5.00 a.m not making a noise just getting ready to one assumed work.

Review 98:Noise from other rooms and hallway. Door slamming. No hot food available.

Review 99:A place to put your head down. That's about it. It's cheap so one shouldn't expect much better.

Review 100:Where to start... Listen to the reviews you. Can. Hear. Everything... Between neighbouring walls. The manager knows he's got you locked in when you've booked and can charge extra to pay. More than ten per cent if use a card. An important detail this because you could add the extra £5 and stay somewhere nicer. Bugs in the bed, stains on the mattress... Scary neighbourhood, nowhere to park, uncomfortable bed for 2ppl...i could go on. Seriously just sleep in the car. I have photos...

Review 101:It was a roof over my head. Potentially should have stayed in my car it would have been better value for money.

Review 102:No hairdryer Soap tray in shower very rusty..Very noisy during early hours of morning - lots of shouting going on outside.Bed was against the wall, making it awkward for the person sleeping on the inside to get in and out. No hand towel. No bin in the bathroom. Husband didn't sleep well due to noise and plastic protective mattress cover making him feel very hot and sweaty

Review 103:very pleasant staff,{ but even though I made the booking and paid the bill on arrival, all information was directed at my husband}.

Review 104:Unable to open the blinds so no natural light possible in the room (which I only discovered in the morning when I woke up). No chair in the room

Review 105:Although the room was small the bed and shower were ok

Review 106:Manager was not on premises when we arrived. Had to pay cash up front. Room was tiny, bathroom very tiny and smelled bad, coloured lights from outside a bit disturbing, no facilities there for food or drink. Seemed like boarding house run for guest workers rather than real hotel.

Review 107:Not much, budget hotel, seemed very dodgy

Review 108:The area.... Scary at night and day time. Bin in the room had beer cans in it. My trousers got dirty when putting them on the Window seal as no other place to.put your clothes down, other than into the musk smelling wardrobe. Pillow cases had a plastic cover inside... Noisy and sticky to sleep on. Not recommended

Review 109:There Nothing we liked, we needed a convenient, cheap " ish" hotel for one night As we signed up for the endurance challenge London to Brighton. The Only benefit was, it was in walking distance to the train.station. If you need a place to eat, nearest pup is 20 min walk. Next to Kingston hospital.

Review 110:The shower curtain fell down, the shower was scalding hot and you could not turn it down this is a health and safety issue! My sister could not turn a light off in her room and this disturbed her sleep. My sister had tea and coffee in her room but we didn't.

Review 111:The service was friendly

Review 112:it was all a bit rough and ready. Grotty shower area, squeaking doors at night, radio blaring at 3 in the morning, no bar facility, no breakfast option but i think this was because of building work.

Review 113:The owner seemed like a nice chap. the beds were clean. The large barking doberman guarding the outside pound seemed like a friendly dog but i kept well clear. it was cheap and cheerful. Agreat little pub nearby called The bricklayers arms was good fun.

Review 114:The walls were thin , so you could hear literally everything in the rooms next to us. Despite free parking , it was on a street road , which evidently I would not feel happy about leaving my steering wheel attached let alone anything else. The picture of the hotel , gives the impression that it is a fully functioning pub , where the term word " disused" would be more appropriate.

Review 115:- Price for area was about right (£50). - check in was easy. - staff were helpful - bed was comfy - really easy to find off A3 - it had hot water and a toilet We chose this hotel as we were spending the weekend in Twickenham for the rugby, so it was a destination chose for drunken rugby fans.

Review 116:Yes it's a converted pub with no meals included but this is the second time we've stayed here and will be booking for next year too! The staff are wonderful, very friendly and go out of their way to help.

Review 117:The area is intimidating being surrounded by high rise council flats. There was a running battle on the street on the Saturday night. The rooms are very basic and the walls are paper thin.

Review 118:The price was good if you just need a base to get the head down. The bed sheets and bed clothes were spotless and the rooms were cleaned to satisfaction. The staff were non intrusive and it's a case of go about your business once you've paid. The shower had hot water and fresh towels were provided.

Review 119:The hotel is on a council estate, I don't mind just wish I knew up front And also the hotel didn't offer and food or drink apart from tea and coffee in the room

Review 120:Comfy bed and TV in the room

Review 121:Had a room with a loose back of the bed, so every time I moved around it was noisy. The soundproofing was not the best, so crying babies, Tvs and conversations from other people could easily be heard. My taxi driver also had some issues finding the hotel, since it is in a normal neighborhood. But overall the positives out scores the negatives.

Review 122:Had som flight delays, but the staff let me in, even after check in time. The room was decent size with my own bathroom. The location is good, with a 15 minute walk from Kingston town, and about 10 minutes from Kingston uni. Some small stores right around the corner, and pizza, kebab and Indian take away close by. Decent free wifi and nice staff.

Review 123:The rooms were clean and adequate but the walls paper thin!! Could hear the conversation of the people next door in detail and they were talking not shouting! I did also worry for the security of my car!!!

Review 124:The location, looks like a rough area BBeing woken up by drunk guests banging on doors to get in there rooms at 2AM The shower was a little small but nothing major

Review 125:The bed was so comfy! The price was very cheap

Review 126:We had to pay in cash for the night, which was in the terms I know but I'd booked months in advance and had forgotten. We were made to walk around the area in the dark, not knowing our way, to find a cash point. The man did not speak much English and the system crashed when he tried to print us the receipt. The floorboards were creaky and any noise in the hallway sounded like it was coming through the room. There were flashing lights outside the window which the curtains didn't shut out. The worst part was the probable tax evasion though.

Review 127:The room felt clean and the bed was comfy.

Review 128:Lights missing from bathroom etc. Quite bad smell in my companion's room (toilet). Bit grubby.

Review 129:Convenience to where I needed to be and price. The family person in charge was very pleasant and helpful. Very basic but served it's purpose for one night in Greater London.

Review 130:It was cold, the walls let every single sound through, and it could have been a little cleaner, but it was okay for the prize. Though the beds were quite difficult to sleep in.

Review 131:The key system was great. The TV in the bedroom was great too.

Review 132:The location. The building used to be an old pub in the middle of a housing estate.

Review 133:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was basic but clean. It was good value!

Review 134:Paper thin walls, bed falling apart (literally had a plywood board under the mattress) it is not a hotel but a converted pub, tiny rooms, no facilities, no kitchen and I doubt it ever will have, poor quality, over priced, not recommended and right in the middle of a high rise council estate, so lots of light pollution at night due to no curtains just blinds in the room (see photos)

Review 135:Not a bad experience but it is on a council estate so may be not be suitable for certain clients. at £40.00 you could probably get travel lodge in town with enough advance booking.

Review 136:The hotel is part of a pub, name gives the clue. Entrance is via side door and electronic card so no need to go through public area. Room surprisingly quiet, reasonable decor, free wi fi with strong connection

Review 137:Noisy outside the window (odd neighborhood), housekeeping starts at approx 9AM, slamming door, vacuuming etc. Door lock unreliable. Didn't accept credit cards as was told during the booking. Old shower, tacky 'pub-style' hotel.

Review 138:Bed and furniture in the room was new.

Review 139:They don't serve food and the floorboards are very creaky that is all :)

Review 140:The bulilding as a whole is old, however the rooms are clean.they supply WiFi irons and coffee/tea. There is a smoking area which is not too shabby as it is located on a roof. The bathroom was clean and the rooms are operated on an electronic key. The staff were lovely and v helpful especially as we asked for so much haha.

The Fine Print

Guests should note that the hotel's first-floor front desk and kitchen are temporarily closed, so meals will not be served until further notice. The hotel does not accept payments by credit card. Guests need to pay in cash, however valid credit card details are required in order to secure the reservation.
