Reviews for Dog and Partridge

Review 1:Unfortunately there was no soap in the shower. The bar had run out of crisps/peanuts etc, not a major problem but a little annoying!

Review 2:Very helpful polite staff

Review 3:Cooked breakfast was a bit hit and miss. It was unavailable on one day of our visit. Porridge would be a welcome addition to the breakfast menu.

Review 4:Location was excellent for our purpose, staff were very friendly and accommodation was very clean and comfortable.

Review 5:The shower in the room ran cold on the last day of our stay.

Review 6:The location of the pub was excellent for the Christmas market. The staff was very friendly and knew all what was happening around town. The room was very clean and tidy. Food was very good. Great atmosphere in the pub in the evening

Review 7:Would have liked a late check out option and the car park is very small but the staff move cars about to make the most of it.

Review 8:Lovely room good location great breakfast.

Review 9:Cleaning equipment left lying around in entrance hall to rooms on arrival (5pm) Parking not guaranteed. No food available in the evening as chef had gone home. Raw mushrooms at breakfast. Incorrect bill on departure. Only one small bottle of shower gel provided for two of us.

Review 10:Closeness to centre of town

Review 11:interior done in grey, mean't to be modern but needs lightening up a bit, ............. it's a pub not a morgue!

Review 12:very central.. ideal for town , parking although a bit tight, friendly manager and staff, coping well with un-forseen problems. bed comfy. well priced menu.

Review 13:had to queue for a fair amount of time to collect key. As i'd been travelling for a long time I wanted to eat in the bar, no tables available. No where to park but on a kerb and no one to hand the keys too when I left even though I was told there would be. Over all not a great stay

Review 14:Room had not been cleared of all debris from the night before and a very dirty towel had been left in the sink. There were clearly issues in the kitchen but these were not the waitresses fault and she did her best to assist. Perhaps better delegation from management would help

Review 15:Good location

Review 16:Had to wait for morning staff to open up for breakfast. There were no chefs that morning. Expensive for a room only with no facilities.

Review 17:Big room. Location as walking distant into centre.

Review 18:Parking was cramped, but I assume there's not much that can be done about that!

Review 19:Can't fault anything, we enjoyed our brief stay here. The room was well-appointed, the staff friendly and helpful, the breakfast delicious - no less that what you'd expect for the price.

Review 20:The beer garden you have to walk through needs a good tidy, there was torn cusions sitting in a pile from the summer. We were on the ground floor and the window catch was broken which meant you could pull it open from the outside. The pillows and quilt were very cheap feeling and thin. The shower needed a good detail clean when you looked at the hose it had orange slime in the gaps and the shower control was covered in white scale when you turned it on

Review 21:The location was good, very close to some of the local attractions

Review 22:I liked the general appearance of the hotel and it's connection to the history around the whole area. The hotel was warm and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful.

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:Everything! The location was central but in a quiet area. The staff were really friendly. The room was beautiful and the bathroom spacious and modern. Everything was spotless. The breakfasts were freshly cooked (such a welcome change these days). We felt the rooms are excellent value for money. Also we had a lovely meal in the pub.

Review 25:For me personally travelling on business, 8am breakfast was too late - however I did have access to cereal and manager made me some toast but no chef so no cooked breakfast :(

Review 26:Lovely clean room and nice location. Very friendly staff.

Review 27:Very good location - easy walking distance to Abbey Gardens, Cathedral & Town centre. Room was large & very comfortable. We had a lunch & evening meal there, as well as the breakfast. All meals were good & service was prompt & very friendly.

Review 28:it was a very hot night and the room was so close to the beer garden that opening the windows meant we couldn't sleep because of the very noisy customers

Review 29:Lovely room, very clean and plenty of room. Staff were lovely and breakfast was fantastic

Review 30:The establishment was full of character and very comfortable. The rooms were all beautifully finished and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and welcoming *****

Review 31:Lukas and his staff were very friendly and helpful and the room very comfy, clean and well presented. The Dog and Duck is perfectly placed in Bury. Would definitely stay again

Review 32:Noisy from both the road (cars across cobbles until 1am and then from 6am) - noisy locals singing and shouting on way home from pub - rooms were a bit sombre/dark - not helped by no bulb in the bedside lamp. Parking was a real issue - spent most of our 36 hours in this town moving our car around this heavily parking restricted town. When we finally got it in the Dog and Partridge's tiny carpark to load our bags as we checked out - we asked if we could leave our car until 6pm. The answer was no as he had more guests arriving - how ironic when the same courtesy was not extended to us the day before and these words really stung as we paid our £200 bill. Our recommendation is to put a barrier on your carpark and save it for your paying hotel guests rather than let your pub goers use it.

Review 33:Attractive building in a good location.

Review 34:Not spotless. Dead flies in the window area and the windows were paintedshut which meant the room had a vaguely musty smell and couldn't beaired. Not good at any price.

Review 35:Location couldn't be better. Adjoining pub good and lively with niceoutdoor area without being too noisy. Price was very reasonable comparedto other hotels in the area.

Review 36:The view of from the room we were in as was the back yard and could here the staff talking outside our room window early morning

Review 37:The location is great room is ok although not as good as last year when we came as had a great room and great views. Food good.

Review 38:Anyone who finds fault with this lovely place must be mad!

Review 39:Fantastic location, free parking, free wifi, super clean room with ensuite shower room, brilliant breakfast. The staff couldn't have been more polite and helpful. I will definitely recommend and stay again.

Review 40:parking facilities very limited , as only a very small car park at the back of the property with only a few spaces avaliable

Review 41:lovely comfortable bed, very friendly staff, nice hot cooked breakfast in the morning ,all added up to a very pleasant stay.

Review 42:The place looked a bit neglected and untidy especially from the window in Room 1 Unable to get fresh air as the windows were locked -only a fan in the bathroom, the carpets in the hallway and room needed a clean -many stains -just looked grubby.

Review 43:The location, the car park facilities, the manager, relaxed feel to the place. Breakfast Ok but not special.

Review 44:Great location and room facilities exceeded expectation. Excellent value for money for other meals. Very friendly manager and staff. Rooms were quiet and never heard any noise from the pub which was well patronised.

Review 45:Our room was a little cramped and the access to it via the courtyard could be uncomfortable in winter. The car park is hard to find and usually overfilled - we had to leave our key with reception to let them move our car if anyone else needed to get in or out.

Review 46:The staff did everything they could to make our stay a pleasant one. The town is delightful and the hotel being located right in the centre made it a great base for sightseeing and shopping. We enjoyed Choral Evensong in the cathedral.

Review 47:There were only net curtains and there was a street light outside my window which affected my sleep The room and corridors smelled musty The lighting in the room was not strong enough to work in

Review 48:Staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 49:Breakfast choices could have been better. No option for those not wanting a cooked breakfast other than toast and limited selection of cereal / yoghurt. Sadly no sign of the mexican breakfast mentioned by other reviewers

Review 50:Excellent location for town centre with free parking. Very friendly staff

Review 51:Not cheap by any means at GBP90 a night. Breakfast very mediocre as "full English" generally is - too salty, too streaky bacon, mass-produced cardboard sausages.

Review 52:Handy location, decent pub, recently redecorated, mildly chic rooms.

Review 53:Nice quiet location, room very tidy, clean and modern. Breakfast freshly cooked and quality ingredients. Also my boyfriend left half his belongings in the room and the staff were so helpful in finding them and sent them straight back to us in the post to arrive next day. Cant fault the stay in anyway.

Review 54:Unfortunately the window blind was broken and I had to stand on a chair to operate. Bathroom fittings very good but shower head and toilet roll holder loose. Also a large stain on carpet. They need to maintain this property more regularly.

Review 55:Modern spacious room design including modern bathroom.

Review 56:* The room was tiny! Not what was advertised! * couldn't open the blind * window broken * mould around the windows that looked like it had been there for weeks! * glow sticks on the window ledge from previous guests. * no iron in room when phoned to reception to ask for one took 15 minutes to get through. * shower gel half used. Overall very disappointed with the stay and unfortunately I wouldn't recommend the hotel. Expressed my disappointment to member of staff his response was "I'm sorry I am new I can fix now" not even the offer of a slight refund, or the offer to stay another night in a better room.

Review 57:Breakfast was lovely and staff very friendly, although not very quick at answering the reception phone on numerous occasions.

Review 58:Had a lovely overnight stay, staff couldn't do enough for us, rooms were clean and modern, Breakfast was plentiful and such a good choice. Would certainly stay here again.

Review 59:Cleaning is really weak. On arrival we had to ask for the toilet bowl to be cleaned and throughout our stay it only got the odd squirt of cleaner rather than a proper clean. Face towels and floor mat are the same format. Each morning they just pick them up and hang them indiscriminately so you can't be sure you aren't drying your face with the mat! Room cleaning was rudimentary and after 3 days the bins hadn't been emptied once. The carpet was very poorly vacuumed. The bed looked like it had been hurriedly remade by a sulky teenager not a professional. The central heating was turned off even with low night time temperatures. The supplied fan heaters worked well though.

Review 60:Nice pub, great location. Staff friendly and helpful. The wife is free, easy to use and reasonably fast. Breakfast good. Onsite parking is good.

Review 61:Besides the room with only very small non opening window, breakfast was a bit casual - no menu, cold plates and ran out of marmalade. Not worth the money paid

Review 62:Same complaint most people have which can't really be rectified, the small car parking area.

Review 63:Friendly staff, good comfortable rooms, would stay here again.

Review 64:The car park was small, and we were blocked in all night by other guests, good job we did not need the car that night.

Review 65:The rooms were clean and comfortable for a one night stay. The Town was close by so you could walk to restaurants and shops.

Review 66:Visited in march the room was cold on arrival. We put the radiators on but they were not working, we found a small convector heater in the wardrobe this was too small to heat the room, we were in room 1, all other guest walk past this room to get to there rooms was quiet noisy with doors slamming

Review 67:Location was good, the staff were friendly, bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

Review 68:The coffee pot was dirty and I told the staff about it. They said they would fix it but I returned to my room and it was still dirty. Also the windows don't open which is a fire hazard.

Review 69:The staff was amazing other then the coffee pot situation. Also the room was nice

Review 70:Helpful staff, comfortable room, excellent breakfast, and good dinner. Very good location, friendly greeting on arrival and the best Greene King pub/inn/hotel we have ever stayed at and we have stayed in a large number of them

Review 71:When I arrived at the hotel I was informed that I had been transferred to another hotel. I wasnt offered a taxi or much of an apology and this then resulted in my being late to a meeting as I wasnt given any address for the new hotel. I was also given a king room at the new hotel when I had booked a family room. This was a business trip for me and my colleague but luckily she didn't mind sharing a bed!

Review 72:The hotel we were transferred to 'The Fox' was lovely.

Review 73:Perhaps it was just the time at which I chose to shower (about 9am on each of the two days I stayed), but the water temperature was cool, verging on cold.

Review 74:I thought that the staff were lovely. One girl, in particular, was extremely friendly and went out of her way to make me feel welcome - showing me to my room, advising on places to eat, offering to store my luggage after I'd checked out etc. It made my stay a pleasant experience. The bed was also very comfortable and I slept really well.

Review 75:As with most people thought the drinks were a little expensive, but then it's not a Weatherspoons!!!

Review 76:The staff are Customer Friendly Car park a bit small but if you get there early space is available. Room was Clean and Comfortable Good choice of Breakfast

Review 77:Some fire-alarm and room heating issues but wouldn't expect those to be permanent problems

Review 78:Staff were very friendly and helpful Good location Free parking Good breakfast

Review 79:Breakfast slightly disappointing, with dry scrambled eggs and the surroundings could be nicer - the back bar of the pub with no frills but you might expect better for nearly £100 a night.

Review 80:Rooms very clean and modern (recently refurbished), with comfortable bed and good washing/toilet facilities. Ours was at the back and was perfectly quiet. Good location, within a few minutes walk of the town centre.

Review 81:Room was bit cold (minor point, didn't mention it, staff probably would have helped).

Review 82:Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was big and clean, shower was great, breakfast was hearty!

Review 83:Light fittings , ceiling and bedside, could do with a dust

Review 84:Size of bedroom, bathroom facilities ambience in dining area speed of service during breakfast, parking

Review 85:staff were very accommodating room was clean and tidy car park at the back was easier to find, when you know it's a one way system, past the pub and just keep turning left!!

Review 86:As with all of Bury, parking is a nightmare. There are only 9 parking places on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the staff are very helpful and do what they can.

Review 87:An excellent location, handy for the town. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The recently updated rooms are pleasant. Good WiFi throughout with The Cloud with typical download speed of 8Gb.

Review 88:not a lot of parking

Review 89:Staff Room Location Food (Breakfast included) Actual Key for the door rather than a card Separate building to pub for guests Big shower in bathroom clean chic

Review 90:The staff were extremely helpful. The rooms were clean and the bar/restaurant were very welcoming. We had a lovely lunch before we left which was excellent value for money and delicious. I stayed with 2 friends and we had a fabulous time.

Review 91:lighting a bit dim in our room making it a bit difficult to read a book or newspaper. The weather didn't help so the room was a bit dark

Review 92:informal and friendly service. parking space. comfortable and modern room. modern bathroom with good shower.

Review 93:Hot water scolding and no warning sign and windows didn't open!

Review 94:Room well decorated, shower facilities lovely, staff helpful, food lovely !! Would recommend!

Review 95:Nothing.

Review 96:Great place to stay for business - in fact would probably stay there anyway if visiting Bury. Nicely furnished and decorated room and modern bathroom facilities. Although adjacent to the pub, this didn't cause any disturbance. Enjoyed meal and friendly service in the pub on arrival and breakfast was great too.

Review 97:No lift .had to climb 3 flights of stairs

Review 98:The staff went out of their way to assist us in every way. In particular Loraine who drove us to our sons hotel when he could not contact us. I hope they get a good bonus at Christmas

Review 99:Grey grey grey paintwork everywhere, I can see the look they are trying to create, however, it could be a little depressing. Luke warm shower each time used, fortunately it wasn't winter. Small tear in the sheet.

Review 100:Lovely spacious room. Good breakfast. Restaurant on site. Comfy bed. Friendly/ helpful staff.

Review 101:There was a constant level of noise - I think from the brewery next door. If you were a light sleeper this would be a problem.

Review 102:The staff were very friendly. We arrived by bike and they were happy to lock our bikes in the garage. The rooms were well presented with a great shower. Comfortable beds.

Review 103:It was a little noisy still at midnight with people using the pub garden. However it didn't last too long and we kind of expected this given we had booked to stay in a pub!! While the rooms were spotlessly clean, the courtyard area was not!! It was littered with dog ends, empty glasses and bottles and food remains. Given you had to access the rooms through the courtyard there was No escaping this. It didn't ruin the stay but I think staff should just be more aware of this and keep the area tidier with more regular monitoring.

Review 104:The rooms had clearly recently been refurbished and were modern and also in excellent condition and very clean indeed.

Review 105:No parking despite claim. Tiny carpark was crammed full. Internet was slow. No glasses in the room. Dirt behind taps in bathroom. Over warm room despite cold weather

Review 106:Comfortable bed

Review 107:Lots of noise on both nights. The second night also had foul language coming from the drinkers sitting outside. Both nights the noise went on until nearly 2am.

Review 108:Bed, food and staff v. good.

Review 109:Shower temperature kept changing from scolding hot to cold -- I am thinking either they share a water supply with others or they didn't put in a mixer. Either way it was not pleasant.

Review 110:Nice modern feel to room -- tastefully done and clean

Review 111:Small parking area. At times very full but on arrival a member of staff moved her car elsewhere so that we could have a space.

Review 112:Newly refurbished rooms. Breakfast good. Easy walk to city centre.

Review 113:Beer garden stank of stale beer Breakfast service was very slow We arrived at 145 pm and room nowhere ready .....

Review 114:Room was smart once ready Breakfast great once served Staff good , friendly

Review 115:Only down side the WiFi connection was variable, and could not get a connection on internet on my Iphone in my room

Review 116:Warm welcome on arrival. Good & polite staff. Good food with great service

Review 117:This is a chain pub and thus is rather homogenised. Restaurant food is edible but clearly reheated from frozen supplies. Not a gourmet experience!

Review 118:Location

Review 119:Only complaint is the very small carpark which I think was also being used by staff, there is nowhere else to park nearby

Review 120:Lovely large room, not expected over a pub! Clean and bright, small stain on carpet but we didn't sleep on that! Good choice for breakfast and friendly staff made it a very good place to stay. Short walk to town centre. pub

Review 121:The toilet was a bit close to the shower so it was a bit a of a squeeze.

Review 122:Very helpful and friendly staff. We were going to a wedding at another location and couldn't get a taxi so one of the bar staff drove us to the wedding venue. Coming home, we phoned the D&P and they arranged the taxi back for us. Food was very good; rooms were spacious and comfortable. Really no complaints and would definately recommend to other travellers.

Review 123:Room and en-suite bathroom was good, although soap dish in shower was broken and outdoor patio area wasn't particularly well kept - dirty tables, ashtrays soaking in a bucket of water as you came down for breakfast.

Review 124:Good real ale and good food, particularly the grill items where you could choose various potato, veg/salad and sauce options. Room clean and comfortable.

Review 125:Bathroom not really clean esp floor and around toilet. Used towel also in bathroom. Room overlooked back of buildings with noisy air cond/generator

Review 126:Comfy and spacious bedroom Breakfast delicious Close to town centre

Review 127:Faulty shower - constantly changing temperature from too hot to cold irrespective of setting. Single chair which from which it was difficult to see TV. Winter duvet in mid summer

Review 128:Within easy walking distance of cathedral and town. Usefull but limited parking. Very clean and newly modernised room.

Review 129:Two petty complaints ,parking so so - Bedroom carpets could do with a visit from a carpet cleaner as this lets the general good standard down, I know this is the previous visitors fault however. The price is a little too high.

Review 130:staff - food+price - room cleanliness on the whole all very good, well worth a visit,A pity, for such a nice hotel that its a little overpriced

Review 131:It was a little hot in the rooms and because we were on the ground floor we couldn't leave the windows open. Not the fault of the Dog and Partridge.

Review 132:We had not been to the area before and found the hotel on the web. The staff were extremely helpful and we had excellent customer service. The room was comfortable and clean with a really good shower. We had our evening meal in the hotel which was good and value for money. It was lovely sitting out on the terrace on a really warm evening. Considering the rooms wee next to the pub we thought it would be noisy but it wasn't. There was a good choice for breakfast. It's an excellent base to explore Bury as its about a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral and places of interest. Thank you

Review 133:We stayed in room No: 4, smallest room and tripped over everything in the night trying to get to the bathroom, while our friend who was alone had a huge room!! not really a negative as room was still very nice.

Review 134:Clean room, comfortable bed, nice food.

Review 135:They didn't reportt back on anything they didn't like.

Review 136:We booked the Dog and Partridge for our daughter, son in law and young grand daughter for a weekend escape They loved the position....could walk around the town, were delighted with Bury St Edmonds which they had never visited before, the ease of having a toddler here and the wonderful comfort and facilities

Review 137:window in our room leading onto fire-escape could not be opened.Would be an issue in the event of a fire.

Review 138:Good location close to town centre.Confortable bed nice cotton bedding.Good ales in the bar, good value meals.
