Reviews for Carlton Mitre Hotel

Review 1:We paid for an exclusive room, our email confirmation stated this would include a king or queen size bed. The bed was smaller than a double. When we stated this to the staff at the hotel they said there was nothing they could do because booking.com do not tell them what type of room you have booked??

Review 2:Complimentary snacks and drinks was a positive

Review 3:Abusive drunken guest attempted to enter our hotel room. Staff wereuseless at protecting us had to resort to calling the police. Poorsecurity at this hotel, staff unable to cope with drunken revellers. This hotel does not make residents security a priority. Beware!

Review 4:Very dated, stupidly priced for what you got. The toilet had scum and stains, the bathroom it self smelt. Was annoyed breakfast was not included in the price when we paid so much for a room. I wouldn't recommend to any one, especially for a wedding we were mixed with the general guests at the hotel most of the day. I wouldn't visit again.

Review 5:The staff were friendly. The food we had at the wedding was lovely. That's it really.

Review 6:Felt that the bathroom was a little worn. But was clean.

Review 7:Lovely helpful staff. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to the Catherine Parr suite. Luxurious room.

Review 8:No water in the fridge and having a long wait for the fresh milk to be delivered. No corkscrew or opener delivered with the wine.

Review 9:The room was very clean. Loved the view, loved the bathroom. Bed was soooo comfortable. Great overnight stay. Thank you. Breakfast was fantastic. I don't normally eat more than a piece of toast but really enjoyed the fruit and cheese on offer. The brie was beyond perfect.

Review 10:I think for the price the facilities were standard and require updating. The breakfast was limited and a lot of things had already run out by 9am when we arrived for breakfast.

Review 11:The location was brilliant and great for our trip to the rugby.

Review 12:Shower in room 401 turned itself off after a couple of minutes before starting on its own again. Butter served at breakfast was tasteless not sure but texture was more like margarine.

Review 13:There was a damp smell when you entered the room. Some of the bathroom fixtures were a bit tired. We were promised a view of either the palace or river for the type of room we had - we could see the river, just, but only from looking over what seemed like kitchen / staff areas.

Review 14:The location for Hampton Court Palace was amazing. The bed was really comfortable and the room was large. The gift on arrival was lovely and the staff were really helpful.

Review 15:Bedroom on the lower ground floor a little dark but nonetheless very comfortable.

Review 16:Overall character of this lovely hotel. Very close proximity to the Radio Times Festival - my purpose of this particular trip. Wonderful view from the breakfast room -enjoyed watching the wildlife on the Thames - an added bonus to a very comfortable stay. Kind person moving his car to allow me to park in limited space.

Review 17:A bit tired in places. Restaurant spaces soulless and empty. Prices more like central London.

Review 18:Friendly staff, fantastic location for Hampton Court. Big room.

Review 19:Loved the location, mix of environments inside the hotel, e.g. the library. Staff very pleasant and efficient. Enjoyed sundowners on the river deck! Great one-night stay but look forward to two next time.

Review 20:Fixtures, fittings, and furniture in the room and bathroom were old, tired, stained, or dirty. Cleanliness throughout the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast is average, particularly if you are vegetarian. The whole experience is of a place trading on their location and being lazy in all other respects because of this. This might be ok if you charge accordingly, but they don't - they are overpriced. And they shouldn't be called a 4* hotel. Someone send the inspector.

Review 21:Location for Hampton Court Palace is fantastic, literally just over the road. Not the worst stay you could have by any means, but you should know you are basically paying for the location.

Review 22:Everything was great. Would have liked a lift to our room floor but it was in the older part of the building so we understood completely. It Would not put us off booking again.

Review 23:The staff were friendly and helpful. The location to hampton court was excellent. The room was very large and so comfortable. We loved it so much ! !

Review 24:We were on a return stay after getting married at the hotel a few years ago. We were amazed to have a lovely handwritten note and pot of love heart sweets left for us! Excellent friendly staff, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay again!

Review 25:Bedroom too hot - no opening window. Noisy primitive and ineffective air conditioner.

Review 26:Great comfort, really lovely staff. Fantastic dining room and bar overlooking the Thames. Two minutes from Hampton Court Palace

Review 27:My two daughters and baby granddaughter stayed the night before my daughters wedding, we had dinner and the next morning hairdressers and make up artists arrived nothing was too much trouble had a wonderful stay .

Review 28:Couldn't fault it!

Review 29:Location couldn't be better for Hampton Court, the hotel facilities are amazing with complimentary mini bar! Friendly staff, nice big room and bed, couldn't ask for more!

Review 30:Room was tired and creaking floorboards in room above kept us awake. Breakfast was poor, at 9:15 on a Sat morning there was like left and we had to wait for almost everything and it took a long time, on Sunday we went to the pub next door.

Review 31:Location was perfect and car parking at front of hotel was very good.

Review 32:Lovely hotel very friendly staff.Great welcome refrigerator filled with beverages and goodies every day.Our room was huge lovely little court yard directly of our room.Would defiantly stay here again.

Review 33:The first room was terrible: horrible smell and very noisy because of a wedding reception second room on the court yard was very nice.

Review 34:Across the street from Hampton Court Palace; staff in restaurant very nice; accommodated our dinner party!

Review 35:Room was clean and good firm bed but was a little dark

Review 36:Reception staff were excellent and my request for early check in was available so my wife and I had a full day at Hampton court

Review 37:Some of the decor is a little tired, the water in the bathroom handbasin is way too hot and you can't get a drink after midnight!

Review 38:The location is perfect for Hampton Court and we enjoyed our breakfast with a riverside view. The staff are friendly and helpful. We loved the sense of history of the building.

Review 39:Our unit was on the 3rd floor. As you walk up the stairs, you notice that it is much warmer there. The unit was too hot and the air conditioner, started at bedtime, would stop with a loud buzzer shortly after midnight to signal that it had shut itself off. It remained too warm. This would stop me from returning or from recommending the property.

Review 40:The location. The staff people are very nice and helpful.

Review 41:Firm uncomfortable bed. Not to my taste, but may be what others like!?

Review 42:Lovely hotel, extremely close to Hampton Court Palace (the purpose of our journey

Review 43:Gluten free choices on the restaurant menu were limited, not unusual but a pity the kitchen staff couldn't be a little more creative.

Review 44:All the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Received an unsolicited upgrade to the Katherine Parr room which, after a long car journey was very welcome.

Review 45:I believe the hotel is keeping its old style but they can improve it little bit to be nicer.

Review 46:Location is perfect, by the Thames, opposite to Hampton Court Palace, few steps of bus station, train station is just couple of minutes walk.

Review 47:As a young couple and not really fitting of the image of the location, we really enjoyed the place and the staff etc, some of the other guests were a bit 'shocked' that a young person with tattoos was in the same hotel but hey.. Hotel was great and for us visiting the Hampton court palace in the evening/next day was so close (literally across the road). Also out Suite was really good (free mini bar) would visit again!

Review 48:The name of the hotel was advertised as The Carlton Mitre but upon arrival the signs on the exterior were for the The Riverside / Mitre. This caused confusion. The hotel was very dated in decor and the toilet was stained. The hot water was scalding hot thefore it was too hot to comfortably wash your hands. I do not expect to stay at any hotel where there is a need to provide warnings. Water should be at the correct temperature. Having paid just short of £130 for one night we were surprise that breakfast was not included. Breakfast finished earlier than most hotels of this type and there was no room service option for breakfast. The room service menu did not begin until after we were checking out. All in all, disappointing for the grand location.

Review 49:The location was convenient to Hampton Court Palace.

Review 50:The chaotic breakfast time. Two staff w a iting on a hot el full at the eerkend wss inefficient. Food constsntly ran out as did hot wster and they were trying to manage the restaurant on their own. To add insult to injury the coffee machine also broke down and folk were offered instant in a high clasd hotel. Not good.

Review 51:The helpfulness of thr reception stsff to assist with booking in and parking cars in the tiny car park.

Review 52:stifling heat in room. Air conditioning didn't work. Shower kept going hot and cold and stopping and starting. Wifi was appallingly slow - spent 2 days trying to download a document that took 10 seconds when I got home.

Review 53:Bed was comfortable. Room was a good size with distant river views

Review 54:Felt decor was dated and a bit old fashioned. Window sills and windows in breakfast room were dusty and needed a clean.

Review 55:Location .....proximity to the river and across the road from Hampton Court Palace. Staff were helpful with the parking outside the hotel.

Review 56:Too hot, windows do not open at all, air con device VERY noisy so you roast or suffer headache, probably not usually a problem in England bu it was a gorgeous w/e weather wise. Very noisy people in next room, thumping up and down the corridor all night, creaky old place but very nice

Review 57:Good staff, fantastic location, sitting by river having lunch and feeding swans, ducks etc.. Hampton Court on doorstep. Had a smashing w/e.

Review 58:First morning staff slow restocking hot trays. Second morning much improved. Car park very small and inconvenient to try and find parking close by as metered area opposite was pricey and often no spaces

Review 59:Being an old hotel it had a lot of character Large bedroom and bathroom

Review 60:Large payment from card on arrival, told would be made void on departure. Hope so.

Review 61:Old fashioned and expensive but efficiently run hotel with large room and bathroom/power shower. Largely serve yourself breakfast.

Review 62:Parking is quite limited - it wash't a problem for us though

Review 63:Location just yards from Hampton Court Palace and on the Thames was fabulous. Staff very efficient and helpful and friendly

Review 64:The furniture was all well worn and could have been replaced as it made the hotel look run down.

Review 65:the location of the hotel by the river, the palace and access to the station was perfect. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 66:The wi-fi was spotty to say the least. The hotel is very old so it creaks with people walking overhead and in the halls. They had installed portable AC units in the rooms, which helped with the heat, but it was still warm even on a cool evening and the units are loud.

Review 67:The staff was very helpful and nice. The breakfast was great, lots of selections and they made eggs to order. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby. You can walk across the street to Hampton Court Palace (our destination). Pretty views of Thames river from the hotel restaurant. The train station is just a short walk across the bridge. Our room was large, with a king sized bed and nicely furnished.

Review 68:Bedside lamp not strong enough to read by. Not enough points to charge mobile devices. Would have liked a shoe cleaning service.

Review 69:Riverside location. Breakfast room overlooking the Thames. Comfortable bed and spacious bedroom. Lots of seating areas inside and out including a cosy library should the weather be inclement.

Review 70:Room 207 is an over-priced cupboard-small and very stuffy Breakfast chaotic Service in waterside area is poor and officious

Review 71:Location-such a shame a great location for a hotel which did not have service to match . We shall not be returning.

Review 72:The location of the Hotel is excellent if you are visiting Hampton Court. It is also next to the river so you can enjoy dinner or breakfast over looking the Thames. Staff were genuinely friendly and very helpful.

Review 73:Breakfast was served only until 9.30 during the week.

Review 74:Very pleasant hotel, staff is very friendly and always ready to help. My room was large with sitting area. Complementary mini-bar was a lovely bonus.

Review 75:Food in restaurant was OK and breakfast lacked a little. The rooms were clean large but a bit old fashioned and a restricted view

Review 76:The location for Hampton court was perfect and being on the riverside was delightful. The welcome was excellent with a welcoming letter and chocolates. Parking in front of the hotel was marvellous. Riverside bar and Bistro great. Large bedroom with good facilities and a complimentary mini bar.

Review 77:Directly across the road is Hampton Court Palace and Gardens. You are right on the river, with quiet terraces. Great transport links and a nice small shopping area on the opposite side of the river, cafes and restaurants.

Review 78:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was well furnished and spotlessly clean. The furniture wasn't new but was of a classic style of good quality that had aged well and was comfortable. Not everything has to be glass and chrome! Evening meal and breakfast were excellent. Would definitely return.

Review 79:The hotel has car parking for 16 cars only but we did manage to find a parking space however when we checked out at the stipulated time of 11 am I had to move my car from the car park. Given that the earliest check in time is 2pm and the car park was not full and I planned to leave at 1pm I was disappointed in this.

Review 80:We stayed here for a visit with friends to the Hampton Court flower show and the location is excellent for this as it is less than a minutes walk away. The hotel sits on the Thames and has superb views over the water. There are also many nice walks in the area.

Review 81:Just what we needed after a long hot day at Hampton Court; great room, location, just across the road, riverside Resturant & friendly service. At the end of the day we didn't want the hassle of a car journey or queuing, just a gentle stroll back to the Hotel & a welcomed shower

Review 82:We stayed here for a weekend with friends and loved dining outside overlooking the river. Beautiful setting.. After evening meal we relaxed in the library where there's plenty of books to browse through.

Review 83:the room was a little dusty but not a problem for us

Review 84:eating beside the River; the quiet comfortable rooms and the complimentary mini bar. The pleasant staff who were working in extreme heat and stayed happy throughout

Review 85:Dirty carpets, dirty vacuume, no mattress only box spring with a falling apart feather mattress cover, got sick on their scramble eggs, bath tub too high and slippery almost fell twice! Outdated bathroom, tired looking furniture with stains and major scratches, made me pay for an additional night during their busiest season because they knew they could not sell it.

Review 86:Pity that car parking is so limited

Review 87:Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, hope they are suitably rewarded. Loved the Tudor theme and the library. Perfect for attending Hampton Court and the Flower Śhow. Wonderful view from restaurant of Thames activity.

Review 88:The room was so hot. We had a portable air conditioner in the room butit was way too loud to have on during the night. There was a welcomingnotice on the so called mini bar that came as a compliment with theroom. It read; "This selection of drinks and snacks are withcompliments of the hotel." Well, when we opened it, there was abottle of London Pride beer, a one glass bottle of red wine, a smallbottle of water and a packet of crisps... Oh and a Ripple chocolate bar. There were two of us staying ! I asked at reception what should be inthe mini bar but the girl there had no idea. Later on a knock on thedoor and it was a member of staff with more soft drinks and a small oneglass bottle of white wine.

Review 89:The room was ok. The receptionist when we arrived seemed pleasantalthough we were kept waiting for an hour before we could see the room.We got there for about 14.10. Ten minutes after we were told that wecould check in. There was another receptionist later that didn'teven look up when we passed. She wasn't so friendly.

Review 90:Parking, had to park at the train station and hope a space came free outside the hotel. There are pay and display spaces out side but, you can only stay for four hours.

Review 91:Location to Hampton Court was excellent. Lovely places to have a drink or something to eat if you fancy a change from eating at the hotel. Hotel on the banks of the Thames so you could just sit relax have a drink and watch the wildlife on the water, brilliant!!!

Review 92:I loved staying at this hotel which was used by Charles 11 when he couldn't fit all his guests in at the Palace! I used it as a base for my day long visit to Hampton Court Palace. All wonderful!

Review 93:Hotel run down and needs to be refurbished. Hotel room Air Conditioning didnt work, when I was shown the room they tried to fix it and said they would send someone to repair no one came. Bathroom quite dirty, toilet stained, towels and bathrobes were clean but need replaced. My husband complained at reception about room, which was full of dust, but as yet have not had any feedback!! We paid nearly £200 for a room here and certainly would not go back. You have this down as a 4star which it definately is not. We would like to be compensated for this. Look forward to your comments. Letitia Burke

Review 94:Excellent location for Hampton Court. They have the monopoly here as no other hotels in immediate area. Poorly run hotel!!

Review 95:It was a little noisy outside a night however this may have been as the concert crowds were drinking in the bar next door.

Review 96:It was ok and close to Hampton Court Palace which is why I booked the hotel. Room was very spacious a bit old fashioned but I like that. The best thing about the hotel is its on the river front where you can sit outside weather permitting.

Review 97:I couldn't get wifi. I called reception and they tried to talk me through a method but it didn't work. Then they just apologised. Disabled access is poor.

Review 98:The comfort and style of the hotel. The comfort is as you would expect. Location was perfect for Hampton Court.

Review 99:The room upstairs had some creaky floorboards which gave the impression of a herd of elephants above. Saying that once the people upstairs had settled down the room was lovely.

Review 100:We were attending a function at Hampton Court Palace. Location of hotel could not have been better. Breakfast was a treat. Staff really friendly and helpful.

Review 101:Bar staff in evening sullen and not interested or happy in their work. Bar lacked any atmosphere so we went next door which was buzzing.

Review 102:Although hotel tired and in need of updating, staff very friendly and helpful in reception and at breakfast. Opposite Hampton court and on river bank - superb location.

Review 103:The room 204 was very dark and clostraphobic and certainly does not reflect what is shown in the website. Bar closed early and was not able to experience the atmospher. Looked tired and needs to be brightend up very stuffy atmospher and oppressive.

Review 104:Location

Review 105:Room was very hot in the evening ... the portable air conditioning in the room stated not to be left on permanently ... so the rooms could benefit with a fully installed system really.

Review 106:Excellent staff ... very helpful indeed!

Review 107:Parking is very limited, we had to use nearby rail station park which costs £6/Day.

Review 108:Location is very good for Hampton court. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Good breakfast.

Review 109:Only found out double charged by checking with my credit card. I had to submit copy of my paid bill after which they did credit my account, so far as able to tell.

Review 110:Lovely hotel, nothing we didn't like

Review 111:Friendly staff who parked my car in their rather small car park rather than leaving it on ticket machine parking bay.

Review 112:The only issue I had was with WiFi. I was traveling from the U.S.A. and this was not an isolated incident. Many of the WiFi spots across England I was not able to connect to any network for some reason.

Review 113:The staff was so helpful and professional. The restaurant was very yummy and you will want for nothing.

Review 114:Dreadful car parking only 8 spaces belong to hotel you have to double park and leave keys at reception so they can move cars public parking on same site max stay 4 hours!

Review 115:Staff friendly excellent room loved our little courtyard good breakfast

Review 116:The hotel has seen better days and needs a refurb. As friendly as staff are they can't make up for dusty rooms and fixtures held together with Sellotape and plasters?!? At £250 night it really needs more attention to detail and care taken over obvious things like broken lampshades and not using medical plaster to stick an air con tube to a window or dried flowers covered in dust and held together with more tape. Such a shame as this could be a stunning hotel.

Review 117:Great location and helpful staff

Review 118:Hotel unable to stop non residents parking in the bay's marked hotel guests only. Brasserie only not restaurant open in the evening. Not hoovered from earlier function.

Review 119:The location and setting were great for our visit to Hampton Court Palace. Staff helpful. Excellent breakfast.

Review 120:Extremely average, middle-of-the-road and tired old hotel, this is not value for money and could do with a facelift and cheer-up. Nice river views but it feels like it's standing on it's laurels and can't be bothered as it's cornered the location market already.

Review 121:The mobile air conditioning unit in our room was sat on an old wooden serving tray, not what I would expect for a 4 star hotel. The carpets were also stained and could do with a good clean.

Review 122:Staff were very helpful and well mannered. Great position for the train station and a visit to Hampton Court Palace.

Review 123:The room was rather dark and dated and the French doors were very draughty but a plug in heater was supplied by reception ,very promptly when we said we were a bit chilly.

Review 124:The staff were all extremely kind, helpful and friendly Location is good, opposite Hampton Court Palace, directly on the Thames and with some great restaurants within a 5 minute walk

Review 125:Rooms are tired. a criticism that follows a lot of hotels at this time but housekeeper needs to be chivied up as old dust was on the valance sheet all round the bed. cobwebs in bathroom..window would not stop open with out a prop...shame....

Review 126:Best location ! much better than expected. Staff were very helpful with obtaining space for the car. Breakfast staff ensured a table overlooking the Thames.

Review 127:Our fist room was next to the busy main road and as we come from a very quiet rural area we requested a quieter room. This was provided without any fuss and we slept perfectly the next night.

Review 128:Friendly staff were very helpful at breakfast which was very good and freshly prepared. We usually dine at local restaurants for dinner when we stay at hotels but the setting of the dining room, next to the Thames, made it very pleasant and the staff were cheerful and the excellent food well presented. We dined there the second night as well and look forward to returning.

Review 129:Parking is a bit of a lottery. We were lucky to get in on arrival but there is not enough for everyone so cars double parked

Review 130:Great location wonderful riverside restaurant and breakfast dining area Room very quiet despite hotel being positioned by busy road

Review 131:- right by Hampton Court so great location on the river - comfortable kingsize bed in old part of the hotel so slightly wonky floor (authentic!) - very friendly staff in reception and restaurants - free parking and free wifi - river view from restaurants (not warm enough to sit out for a drink but tables available)

Review 132:Bad singing by wedding guests at 2.30am!

Review 133:The location, the English breakfast including black pudding, views of the rowers on the Thames, and somewhere comfortable to recover from my jet lag.

The Fine Print

The free parking is limited and works on a first come first served basis.
