Reviews for Bergen Hostel Montana
Review 1:No, because I guess I can't blame themfor the weather...
Review 2:Parkingspace for my car was important for me this time. But I also like the athmosphere here, nice people, OK room with my own toilet and bathroom. The breakfast isn't exactly extravagant, but I always find something I like, so I suppose it's OK.
Review 3:Only four hobs in the kitchen to cook on which means you end up queuing for them. The wifi was ok but I could imagine in the high season this would not work very well.
Review 4:Location was good if you have a car and it is right next to Mount Ulriken. The room had everything you needed and was clean.
Review 5:The only thing I missed was a little lamp from the 18bed dorm room as it was quite late, more than half of the room was away somewhere and the main lights were on and there was no option to leave a little one on for those who come back late, so had to leave the door wide open for them.
Review 6:I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm room and in an 18 bed mixed dorm room, both were really good and clean, had a sink and mirror, a sofa in them and of course the beautiful view. rooms are big enough to have your "own space". My favourite part was the breakfast, it is so cool that the hostel is so cheap and as an extra you get free breakfast with it. Showers, toilets are clean, never had to wait for one (in October), good water pressure, enough hot water. It is nice and warm in the rooms (although it was a bit too warm for me) Highly recommended for everyone.
Review 7:not free sheets and towels, but if you have own its ok, there is pillow and blanket, very limited choice of pastry for breakfast - just toast bread, price is high
Review 8:Location near Ulriken mountain, good breakfast, wifi, sink in the room, good staff, fast check in and check out, free parking, toilets and showers in each floor,
Review 9:Nothing much to complain.
Review 10:It is set in a beautiful location, even though it is far away from the town. The staff are awesome and the place brims with activity and fellow-travelers. Full of energy!
Review 11:- sometimes bathroom was not clean enough - a bit pure breakfast
Review 12:- good location - cheap - included breakfast - big and well equipped kitchen - free parking
Review 13:The room was not very clean (dirty floors, stains on walls) and very small. The location of the facility is app. 20 minutes from city center by car which together with relatively high price results in unfavorable value for your money.
Review 14:Receptionist was able to change our room (compared to original booking) when he asked for private bathroom.
Review 15:The location is a tough one, for young people it's really quite bad, a good 20 minutes on the bus everytime(the bus times stop super early), and certainly not within walking distance of you're tired. So that was hugely annoying, but on the other hand you get a spectacular view over the city so figure what you'd prefer. Internet was really slow, and could have done with one more cooker. Showers need to bee sorted out too.
Review 16:The facilities were good, kitchen was a decent size and there was a supermarket 100m away so cooking was an easy process. Dorms were fine and then communal spaces were lovely. They seem to organise a lot for the guests which is great, this includes hikes and social gatherings.
Review 17:The location is well away from city center and it was difficult to find. Given the location was not so touristy, stores and restaurants did not take credit cards other than those from Norway.
Review 18:That there was free parking.
Review 19:The bathrooms are ouside the rooms, so we need to share it with a lot of people. The location is far from the center, although it is near from the hicking starting point to the Urlich montain.
Review 20:The breakfast is very good!
Review 21:wifi connection is not good.
Review 22:Staff are very friendly and helpful. They will offer to prepare breakfast or lunch pack for you if you are leaving early. The kitch certinaly helps the backpackers save a lot of money on food especially in a pricy country like Norway.
Review 23:Extremely loud and crowded in common areas - talentless girls hammering piano and screeching like cats while other guests play foosball like they're having a roid-rage episode. You have to go to common areas to use wifi. This huge hostel has TWO washing machines and ONE dryer, so you end up competing for access and finding your clothes dumped on top of a machine or on the floor if you're not there the exact moment a machine stops.
Review 24:A fair distance away from the centre, I wouldn't recommend walking and the bus costs 50 NOK if bought from the driver and 35 if bought from ticket machine or local shop. Beds were comfortable but a little short and mine was next to a noisy ventilation duct. Bed sheets costed 70 NOK. WiFi only works downstairs (reception / kitchen / common room) Maybe not the liveliest place for young backpackers.
Review 25:Very helpful and friendly staff. Active hiking-centric hostel with a really good common room. Good shower and bathroom facilities. Nice area outside to have a fire and watch the sunset over Bergen. Kitchen was well stocked with pans, plates etc although you do have to queue for a while. Very close to a supermarket (which doesn't take mastercard) Good amount of space around bed to keep bags and I had nearby access to a power outlet.
Review 26:WiFi was kind of in and out but it was good in the dorm rooms.
Review 27:Amazing view and location. Free breakfast buffet (very rare in norway!) And bike rental for free. The best hostel I've stayed at.
Review 28:FREE BREAKFAST was fantastic, delicious in every way, so much variety. A free breakfast goes a long ways towards making me super happy to stay with you. Everything else was great too.
Review 29:fantastic staff, amazing view and sunset over Bergen, probably best place to see sunsets, really to recommend. with breakfast which was great!!! anytime again.
Review 30:Far from the city center, but easy access to bus and staff was very helpful with directions.
Review 31:Beautiful view, friendly and helpful staff, excellent free city walking tour, yummy breakfast.
Review 32:The location is not perfect... It's an hour walking up the hill or you can take a bus for 35 NOK from the train station
Review 33:The dorm was clean, so were the showers. There is well equipped kitchen. The breakfast was perfect!
Review 34:Breakfast not so good, bad odour on the corridor, sheets and towels available for extra charges.
Review 35:Localization and parking space available without any extra costs.
Review 36:Room and bathroom were old and just didn't feel clean even if it was. Laundry was a bit of a pain and the kitchen had limited supplies.
Review 37:Great proximity to the grocery store. Really nice overlook on the city. Close to the bust stop. Free breakfast included.
Review 38:a bit far away from city center, bus is not that convinent espcially on weekends
Review 39:the terrace can see the whole bergen, you dont have to spend money go somewhere else
Review 40:To walk back from town the way is not well signposted and one could get lost or have a longer route
Review 41:Excellent, a little wayout of town but near a good bus route and walkable (easier out than back) with exellent views of Bergen and its surrounds.
Review 42:Toilette was bit dirty.
Review 43:Location is very good, on the mountain, 5 km from city centre The staffs are very helpful and friendly. Very international so can meet different people
Review 44:Towels and linen to be rented for about USD23 - ouch! (esp. for a one-night stay like ours). Taxi to the airport - about NOK500 for a 25 min ride.
Review 45:Stayed for one night before taking a morning flight home. Picked the property just because it was a walking distance (30 min) from Hertz car rental place where we returned the car. Stayed in an ensuite room which, including rented towels, cost a whopping USD150. For an extra $30-50 you would find a much better place to stay in Bergen so I certainly wouldn't recommend it for a private room. Cannot comment on the dorm side of it as I haven't experienced that. Looked buzzy and popular though. It's a very big condominium-looking hostel, crowded (so I suppose would be good for people seeking communication).
Review 46:Poor laundry facilities - two washers and one dryer for a large hostel, and the dryer didn't dry my clothes - big pain. Tiny rooms with bunk beds.
Review 47:Most affordable housing in the area. Free parking, generous breakfast included. Information on local activities posted.
Review 48:Far from the city. We arrived after 8:00pm, got settled in, and had to wait in the rain for the next bus to take us to the city for dinner. No restaurants nearby at all. Figuring out the bus system in Bergen was a bit of a challenge, but once we knew, it was fairly easy. Breakfast was very carbohydrate-heavy. No double beds in this place for couples...
Review 49:Close to the bus line. Functional lodging if you just need a place to sleep. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 50:Going from the hostel to the city, there are two different Bus 12 routes. One goes to the city and the other doesn't. This isn't clearly marked on the schedule at the front desk. It's a minor thing, but very important if you're heading to the airport. Also, the WiFi didn't work properly in the main space (it kept dropping and didn't work at all in the room I was in, despite the fact that there was a repeater right in the room).
Review 51:Hostel Montana is a quick bus ride from the central station on Bus 12. It's easy to find from the stop and nestled in a high place with a lovely view. Further, you can hike Ulriken since you're basically right there. The staff were friendly, very helpful, and never stopped smiling.
Review 52:The kitchens can get crowded so avoid rush hours
Review 53:Lots of activities offered by the hostel ( free bike rental, and tours). Great location for hiking. Two big kitchens. The members of staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 54:A bit far away from city center but u can walk as i did
Review 55:Good Breakfast Cheap and clean 3 gece kaldım gerçekten bence en iyi ve uygun yer burası ve kahvaltısı harika
Review 56:Location of hostel a little far away from city center, but easily accessible but a bus (which adds on to costs)
Review 57:Staff was friendly Wi-Fi was good Breakfast included - Which is always a bonus for travellers on a budget Bed was comfortable and there wasn't much noise at night
Review 58:I enjoyed my stay here, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were well heated in the cold weather. The breakfast was fantastic and pizza/muffins/free tea and coffee are available for those who want a night in.
Review 59:A bit far from city center - need to go by bus.
Review 60:Unpossible to find another object in this price in Bergen. Breakfast realy sophisticating. All in all - it's rather shelter, not hostel and you should not expect extra comfort, but it's clean and good equipped place.
Review 61:Rooms are clean, bathroom inside the room, very good breakfast, bus stop to the center just in the corner, Ulriken lift - just 15 minutes walking distans
Review 62:Unusable wifi... Bed was not that comfortable.
Review 63:Breakfast! Locality. Big locker rooms. Social room with coffee. One shop just accross the street but they didn't accept mastercard...
Review 64:pretty sparse room for what we paid--a private twin room--location wasn't totally convenient
Review 65:hostel had a lot of amenities/things to do, breakfast was very good, view was fantastic, helpful staff
Review 66:Good location for walking and there were excellent views from hostel. Very quiet at night, slept very well. Self catering facilities a bit sparse but an excellent way of meeting other hostellers.
Review 67:can be quite warm in the west-facing dormitory in the evening, when the sun is heating the room (on nice sunny days only ;) ...)
Review 68:- view over Bergen - at the starting point of hike to Ulriken and Vidden (mountains behind Bergen) - clean - good breakfast! - not overcrowded
Review 69:the location is remote the bed sheets are charged the wifi is only available in common areas only two Power plugs in room cleaning is required
Review 70:the breakfast is pretty good, with a variety of food (I like the Brown cheese) the receiption is helpful
Review 71:Too far away from the city centre and there is no wifi in the room
Review 72:The hostel is on the hill so you can enjoy the beautiful view. And the staffs are so nice. The best thing is the breakfast is awesome!,
Review 73:Someone left their used utensils in the sinks without washing, those washed ones are not cleanly washed as well.
Review 74:The mattress is comfortable; breakfast has many choices.
Review 75:should be ashamed of this terrible place..should be torn down..rude staff..dirty..cold room..worst breakfast ..should be be part of hostel system..an em barrassment..
Review 76:The location is too far from the city centre. And there is no wifi in the rooms.
Review 77:The staff there are really nice. They give a lot of suggestions about where to visit. Also, the breakfast is good, with a lot of choices.
Review 78:The staff was outstanding... Just so helpful and nice. Breakfast was very nice and they also had very nice tours that were given by there awesome volunteers. I cannot say enough how much of a nice time I had here.
Review 79:breakfast was a big buffet! full of healthy things like nuts, cereal and fruits, also has ham and cheese, even fish!! so good!! rent a bike for free and since the hostel is on a mountain, one can ride the bike all the way down, very thrilling and fun experience!
Review 80:Position, but you've a bus stop near, you get to the center in 20 minutes
Review 81:Meeting lots of people of other cultures Room was nice Really nice common areas (tv, sofas, piano) Lots of facilities Very friendly staff
Review 82:Firsty, I was dissapointed that wi-fi isn't available in my room, but now I don't regret it. Using Internet in common areas I had possibility to talk with many interesting people. In this way Internet was real social and quite fast, without every smartphone connected to network without reason.
Review 83:I traveled by car, so for me localization was perfect. Visiting center by bus wasn't also a problem, there was a bus near the hostel. The biggest advantage for me was nearness of trail to Urliken. I liked to hike to this little mountain (over 600m) and watch Bergen from top.
Review 84:The staff did not smile - it was as though I was interrupting them when I went to check-in. The room was in another building across the road above a pub. It felt like a half-way house for criminals released from jail. There was no elevator to the 5th floor, so expect to carry your luggage up the fire escape stairs.
Review 85:The location is very close to shops and attractions and is a short walk to the docks.
Review 86:see "like" section
Review 87:The cheapest or almost cheapest hotel in Bergen. I liked the breakfast and the WiFi, a nice view from the top. You share everything with everyone but it is suppose to be like this - hostel. It's not a cheapest hostel but Norway is expensive in general.
Review 88:Bed linen rent price is very high - 70 krones. As I already mentioned, location is not in the center and bus trip costs 31 krones one way (41 if you buy ticket from driver).
Review 89:Very helpful staff, good breakfast, free bikes available. Location far from center, but easily reachable by bus and maybe best location for hiking to mt Ulriken. It was very nice atmosphere, enjoyed staying there.
Review 90:Spending extra money for taking a bus from the city to the hostel. Running a free shuttle bus will be helpful.
Review 91:Friendly staffs, group activities which was good experience for solo travelers to get along with others, lavish breakfast
Review 92:The hostel is at the foot of the mountain, so you can make hiking trips easily. If you want to go to the city center you have to take a bus, which tooks appr 20 min.The kitchen is well equipped, the common living room is nice, the breakfast is versatile and the room is clean. You can get a lot of infos from the staff. Thanks for the good memories Jesper,Sandor and the others!
Review 93:1. Two total outlets for a room of 6 2. It was a great view but had to take the bus every time you wanted to go somewhere (Distance) major issue if your trying to explore. 3. Front staff- very unhelpful and seemed too busy to want to help with a solo traveler.
Review 94:1. I liked the View I had of the city and was able to hike every morning for a workout. 2. There was a pretty large breakfast/ however it was more like a lunch display. (Better like Herring*) 3. Large lockers in rooms for all of your luggage - helps keep the room cleaner.
Review 95:Had to pay 70k to hire sheets. People in my dorm didn't want to pay that much so they just didn't bother with sheets so all the bedding is being used without cleaning. Only one PowerPoint in the room. Wifi only available in reception. Whole place is very old and dirty.
Review 96:Not much. Breakfast was ok.
Review 97:First of all, the staff was extremely kind and helpful and opened for all kind of request. Including of arranging trips, printing of bookings, helping with the washing machine. That was the first time that I booked a bed in a common room with 18 of us, and I has been positively surprised. It was not so comfortable of course but the people who were in the same room were absolutely kind and OK. You could leave even your expensive phone inside, nobody touched your staff. The place was well-prepeared with huge living rooms and sofas to take a rest. The breakfast was excellent regarding its limitations of course. The bus stop is close to this place and there is a little shop where you can buy some cheap food or stuffs what you need, for instance a toothbrush or toothpasta or whatever.
Review 98:the hostel should be renewed, the bathroom is very tiny, the wi-fi sometimes doesn't work properly if the room is at the end of the corridor.
Review 99:the hostel is cheap and clean, it's easy to reach with the bus #12 from and to the city center, good breakfast in the morning, the mini-market it's a few steps from the hostel (here you can also buy the bus tickets), a parking at your disposal if you get there by car, the hostel is located in a very quiet and residential area
Review 100:Bathrooms and live room didn.t include soap and shampoo. Breakfasts didn't contain any porridges
Review 101:We had opportunity to see a lot of people from different country. the kitchen works to 11 p.m. and I liked to look on dishes, which are prepared there. Staff allowed to leave our bagage when we needed.
Review 102:There's the only bus route to the city center and the traffic is rare on weekends. As far as I remember, 1 bus per hour on Sunday.
Review 103:Mountaneous location gives excellent view of the city. At least, when the sky is clear (that's not so often).
Review 104:Location is awful and the only realistic way to get there from the harbor/city center is by bus. Don't even try to find this place on foot. Old hostel, showing its age. Room/beds not comfortable. Dirty, fully booked with lots of people. Had to rent sheets for $12 on top of regular charge. Would not stay again.
Review 105:Cheap (for Norway) Breakfast was ok
Review 106:1) Wi-fi signal only in common sitting area and not good in rooms. 2) Double-story beds even for couples staying in. 3) Extra charges for linen. Even though it is to lower down the tariff if people can bring their own linen, as staff said. But the rates were not lower when compared to good acco. in the city center (with personal kitchen, good wi-fi, incl. Breakfast) . So a very strong area to improve.
Review 107:1) Kitchen facility to cook as per own choice and Bunnpris in proximity. 2) Good view of hills. 3) Helpful staff.
Review 108:Nothing really. The room was small, but typical for a hostel.
Review 109:The staff was excellent and extremely helpful. The room was very clean as were the bathroom facilities. The breakfast was large and had a great deal of variety. The value was good for Bergen which is very expensive. There was a nice common room with foosball and TV.
Review 110:Only the location is a bit far, but if you have a bergen card, it s not a problem.
Review 111:Everything is great, good view, good facilites, good breakfast, nice staff.
Review 112:Far from city center. Wifi only in the common areas. Bathrooms are far from the rooms.
Review 113:Very comfortable. Bathrooms were clean enough. Breakfast was pretty good.
Review 114:Not much really. Rooms are small and you share a bathroom, but this iswhat you expect in a hostel.
Review 115:A very good location right by the bus stop and a short walk to the mustsee cable car up Mt. Ulriken. A reasonable price for Norway. Nice commonroom with tv, foosball, and sitting area. The staff was great.
Review 116:Pretty bad location.
Review 117:Good breakfast.
Review 118:Friendly. Great location if you have a car
Review 119:you have to pay 70 NOK for the sheets
Review 120:the scenery of the city is beautiful~
Review 121:smell of room and very basic breakfast.
Review 122:possibility to meet many different people; cooking in the guest's kitchen; proximity to the market.
Review 123:It is a little bit far from the city senter....
Review 124:The best was the breakfast, it was very good for a little hostal. Very clean too
Review 125:I liked take-away breakfast.
Review 126:Only two men showers for the whole floor.
Review 127:Quiet hostel at the foot of the mountain with a beautiful view of the city
Review 128:Great breakfast, clean and comfortable
Review 129:The internet didn't work in our room.
Review 130:Beautiful and cozy for a good price. Location was also good. My family loved it!
Review 131:location
Review 132:Breakfast
Review 133:My room was quite dirty, and the location was very far away from city centre
Review 134:I liked the breakfast- lots of choices, even for a vegan!
Review 135:terrible location, wifi is really bad
Review 136:Just ulriken montains
