Reviews for Tollgate Lodge
Review 1:The only down side was the shower was very cramped, but as only staying for one night it wasn't really a problem.
Review 2:The hot tub was amazing! The owners were really friendly and helpful. The fresh milk, eggs, tea, coffee and bottled water was a very nice touch.
Review 3:The bath is fine, but leaves little room for anything else in the bathroom. The shower was adequate but not great.
Review 4:Nice upper storey conversion. Open plan which is fine for two. Very clean, and well maintained.
Review 5:We found that there being no actual wardrobe a problem as the only hanging hooks were on the wall opposite the oven. We had a christening the following day so we ended up leaving our clothes hanging in the car overnight and brought them up once breakfast was finished the following morning. We have 2 girls 11 and 14 and although their beds were great when the other single bed is pulled out it does limit your space. The standing shower space was very cramped, I'm 5' 7" and I found it cramped.
Review 6:The ability to have your own facilities to cook was a great bonus. The free wifi was also very good.
Review 7:A touch close to the main road, didn't really bother us, but I could see it being loud for some people. Also, make sure you stock up before you arive as supermarkets are about 15 minutes drive away.
Review 8:Lovely little lodge, perfect for a romantic night away. Initially we were a bit hesitant to use the hot tub as it is close to the owners house's back door but they informed us that our privacy was key and closed all the curtains so that we felt secluded.
Review 9:The bathroom was a bit problematic. Hot water wasn't constant and the shower very restrictive because of the sloping roof. Wouldn't suit anyone tall!
Review 10:Beautiful location and stunningly decorated. We were very comfortable and cosy :)
Review 11:Beautiful little lodge perfect decor spotlessly clean and very homely cannot fault it in the slightest. The owner is so friendly, lovely lady and so welcoming lots of little touches which make all the difference and the hot tub just tops it off perfectly. Highly recommend to anyone looking to just relax :-)
Review 12:Only one hob worked, the tv doesn't pick up all the channels, it states that toiletries will be provided these were half or empty bottles that looked like had been left by other guests.
Review 13:light, modern fairly comfortable place. Owner was very friendly and welcoming. Our stay was ok but we do feel that a bit more thought on what was provided could make an ok place into to a lovely little haven
Review 14:The only negative thing for us was that there was no wardrobe space, just hooks, so you need to remember to take coat hangers. Also the shower, being under the eaves, is not suitable if you are 6' or over.
Review 15:The location was excellent for our purposes. The owners were extremely helpful. The lodge was beautiful and decorated and furnished to a high standard. Across the road from a nice pub/restaurant.
Review 16:There was absolutly nothing to dislike
Review 17:Very comfortable. A porblem we had was sorted out very quickly, efficiently and in a friendly manner. Will definitely use again
Review 18:No wifi during our stay but Sarah did warn me beforehand so it was fine, BT was doing some maintenance so it affected the whole road. As the property is on a main road this wasn't a problem at all didn't hear any noisy cars at night. Sarah was very welcoming on arrival. Would definitely stay again and recommend this place to others!
Review 19:Road noise made it impossible to sleep - there is a fan, but too noisy (for us, light sleepers) to run through the night. The eaves make showering cramped and uncomfortable for anyone over 5'5''.
Review 20:A very pretty studio - a lovely host - thoughtful extras, milk, eggs etc.
Review 21:My friend and I had a lovely stay at Tollgate Lodge. The welcome from Sarah was wonderfully warm and friendly (we had a good giggle!), and it was a really beautiful little place ideal for our needs. Very well equipped, lovely location and OH!, the hot tub was a real treat. 37 degrees with all the bubbles you could wish for, with perfect privacy. Wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you! :)
Review 22:We liked everything!! Nice little touches such as fresh eggs and milk. Lovely garden space. Only 10 minutes from the centre of beautiful Bury St Edmunds and such beautiful decor. We will definately return.
Review 23:Could not fault this one bit...only thing I didn't like was having to leave!
Review 24:Absolutely loved our stay at the lodge. Owners and their family accommodating from moment we arrived. travelling alone with 2 young children this was the perfect place for them. They played with Sarah's family and did not want to leave. Accommodation excellent!
Review 25:There was quite a bit of road noise. The property is on the A143, which is a fairly busy road. There was nothing to make proper coffee with and no teapot.
Review 26:The bed was comfortable. The bath was lovely. Free wifi was very handy. Place was easy to reach and find. Owners were really friendly. The lodge was beautifully decorated.
Review 27:Fantastic experience, happy friendly owners who really have thought of everything to make the stay faultless. Our children 9 & 14 simply loved the modern & airy layout, and we had everything we needed down to fresh milk & eggs, cooking oil & washing up equipment.
Review 28:Nothing - would definitely recommend
Review 29:A great self contained lodge. Everything you could wish for - home from home. Milk, coffee, tea, eggs and bottled water supplied. Tv with a selection of DVDs. Bed was so comfy. Great to have the use of a hot tub.
Review 30:It is close to a busy main road and very close to the owners house so didnt feel very private.
Review 31:The owner was extremely welcoming on arrival. The lodge itself was of a lovely standard, decorated and furnished beautifully.
Review 32:cant think of anything!
Review 33:quaint cosy intimate lodge with all home comforts, warm effective heating, wonderful hot tub!!! Milk, Evian, Eggs, Tea, all condiments and seasonings, very thoughtful owners. hope to see you again.
Review 34:A very warm welcome. Very clean lodge - an excellent bed, bathroom and kitchen. all really clean and great value for money. Bury is only two miles down the road. There's a bus stop just outside the lodge - £2 sinlge into town. Easy to get taxi's too. Pub over the road seemed to do a nice pint. All in all a lovely stay and would definitely come back for next year's market!
Review 35:The only (very slight!) downfall is that you're in danger of hitting your head if you're tall! The sloping roof is better suited to those about 5ft tall (not my 6ft!) and you may need to sit down in the shower if your over 5ft :)
Review 36:I stayed in the lodge with two friends in November 2024. The main selling point was the hot tub (which was in the owners garden as someone has previously complained about, but the owner advised us that the curtains to the house would always be drawn for our privacy-so what's the problem?!) the lodge itself is really pretty, with nice decour and everything you could want for a self catering apartment. The owners had even left milk in the fridge and eggs on the side for our use which was a lovely touch. There is a nice pub opposite the property (although a bit hazardous trying to get over the busy road!). Overall we had a lovely stay there, and used it as easy access to Bury St Edmunds, I would definitely stay again if I was in the area
Review 37:I was too small to open the windows! I had to stand on a chair.
Review 38:Tollgate Lodge was full of character and beautiful furnishings. Very cosy and great attention to detail. Plenty of books, magazines and DVD's to choose from. Sarah was very welcoming, would definitely return.
Review 39:The traffic noise, sadly this gem of place is on a very busy road & as I needed the window open this was quite intrusive. May not be such an issue in winter or if you are used to traffic noise. That being said, I was very tired & slept well in the very comfortable bed. Perhaps another sharp knife in the kitchen for those of us who cook?
Review 40:This accommodation was well located for the A14 & sightseeing in Suffolk/Norfolk. It was very clean, well thought out & a pleasure to stay in. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, the temperature was good & there was onsite parking. The host was friendly & gave instructions about where to leave the key etc.. at the end of my stay. Well set-up kitchen area & variety of dishes & glasses (which came in useful). DVD's if you would like & a good sized bathroom. Some 'extras' such as toiletries,coffee/tea, Jam in the fridge & eggs provided. Would definitely recommend to others
Review 41:Myself and my partner stayed at the apartment for one night. Our request for a earlier check in was met and was very smooth. The apartment itself is amazing. Very well decorated and has all the things in it you would expect in a home. Great personal touches and lovely pub across the road. Hot Tub in the garden was also a delight. We look forward to returning in the near future! :-)
Review 42:The website is misleading as the hot tub is in the owners garden right by their window and is not private for the lodge. We didn't get the continental breakfast that is mentioned on their website (selection of cereals, Bread, Fresh fruit, Yoghurts, Ham & Cheese). The lodge really isn't suitable for young children as there are too many corners at head height for them to walk into and it is not big enough for more than 2 people. It is very expensive for what you get.
Review 43:The décor in the lodge is lovely and the owners were very sweet and helpful
Review 44:There is nothing to dislike.
Review 45:Gorgeous room, fantastic personal touches to make it very welcoming and comfortable. 4 adults stayed in the room which easily accommodated us. The loft is beautifully decorated and the beds, including the pull out, give you a good night's sleep. All the comforts of home including a dishwasher. The freshly laid eggs make a super breakfast too!!!!
Review 46:No signal for o2 users! wifi was bit hit & miss.
Review 47:Sarah, is brilliant! A lovely warm welcome and very accommodating. The apartment is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Great play area for young children with petting animals close by. Authentic wishing well in the garden. I would stay there again.
Review 48:Nothing to do with the accommodation but turning right from the house onto the main road was a bit scary!
Review 49:The apartment was tastefully decorated, had everything we needed and more. The hot tub was fab!
Review 50:The location was on the edge of a main road - so the noise from the lorries (with windows closed) was continuous. The eaves in the bathroom mean that the shower space is very limited - particularly for taller people.
Review 51:The fit out and furnishings and helpfulness of the staff were great. Having little kitchenette was nice for tea coffee / making some brekkie in the morning.
Review 52:its too near a very noisy busy road/junction
Review 53:beautiful lodge very thoughful owner ensuring fressh eggs and water in the fridge for the stay with compliementary coffee and tea and toiletries.

Review 76:Lovely 1 night stay everything you needed Nd very clean :) thank you
Review 77:If I was to be very picky, the shower is a bit cramped due to a sloping roof, particularly if tour tall
Review 78:Everything!
Review 79:Nothing
Review 80:Accommodation to a high standard everything you needed. Nice touch to have some milk and eggs.
Review 81:Comfortable , clean and had everything I could possibly have needed . Nice and warm . I appreciated the extra bits and bobs .

Review 86:Cleanliness, little tocuhes of details
Review 87:Loved hit tube and location .very cute in side
Review 88:A wonderful nights stay. Wish we could've stayed longer.
Review 89:The location was perfect. The lodge was fabulous. The family were very friendly and accommodating. Hot tub in the garden very nice too!!!
Review 90:Friendly personal service, very hospitable owners, beautifully furnished apartment and good parking.
Review 91:Lots of space, a home from home as very comfortable with everything you could need. I stayed in the area for business and was excellent value compared to a hotel considering the space and amenities. Warm friendly welcome but otherwise given privacy. Can see why people would stay for serval days if visiting the area.
Review 92:It's located on a busy crossroads so there is a lot of traffic noise and the shower was very poor and cramped
Review 93:Friendly welcome and clean apartment. Starter pack given which is helpful.
Review 94:Everything.... Couldn't fault it in anyway and had such a warm welcome from Sarah on arrival. A must stay and somewhere we will visit again.
Review 95:Took a while to get used to the sloping ceiling and not to bang our heads every time we walked too near the wall. Also think that a bigger sign would help as the lodge is easy to pass as it does look just like a garage.
Review 96:It was all just amazing!!Clean, quiet, warm and well presented. Would definitely go again.
Review 97:The noise from the main road during the night was very noticable when the windows were open. The television reception was very poor and some of the main channels were unviewable. The shower pressure was poor and the space limited
Review 98:The facilities were very good and the standard of cleanliness excellent. Plenty of provisions were left for breakfast.
Review 99:Wifi quite slow.
Review 100:Friendly and extremely helpful hosts. Lovely décor and great touches. Open plan set up with kitchen area and en-suite adequate for family of 4. Nice complimentary toiletries. TV/DVD and dishwasher. Fantastic hot tub. Good pub opposite. Excellent value, highly recommended, so much better than a hotel and great value for money.
Review 101:Sarah was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcomed with the balloons for my birthday and the smart birthday cake. It exceeded all our expectations. It was comfortable, cosy and the facilities left us wanting for nothing.
Review 102:Noise from main road which was busy all night and meant that windows could not be opened. Shower very tight squeeze under eves for 6 footer.
Review 103:Cleanliness. Styling. Extras e.g. fresh eggs, milk, crisps etc. Closeness to good pub.
Review 104:Nothing. Was such a lovely place to stay. Would come back here in a heartbeat.
Review 105:Homely touches. Location. Privacy. Nothing was any trouble for the owners-very approachable and friendly,
Review 106:Road noise at night.
Review 107:Beautiful lodge, tastefully decorated to a high standard. Every detail considerered and added extras given by the attentive owners. Nice and warm even in the blustery weather! Good location with beautiful views.
Review 108:We loved the apartment, although I banged my head a couple of times. Sitting in the hot tub while the night air was freezing all around us was great. Pub over the road was very hand for an evening meal
Review 109:The television signal was a little poor, but besides that, we loved everything else
Review 110:My boyfriend and I stayed at Tollgate Lodge for our first weekend away. The accommodation was well equipped, with a few extra's, which we really appreciated. The hot tub was lovely, on such a beautiful, starry night!
Review 111:Wifi had problems during our stay..and the boys had a few bashed heads on the ceiling :)
Review 112:The lodge had everything that you could possibly need for a short stay and was finished to a very high standard with extra little touches
Review 113:That we were unable to stay longer.
Review 114:Friendly and very helpful owners. Cosy, personal touches. The local pubdid lovely food. Easy to find and great links to the local area.
Review 115:The Lodge is a really lovely and personal alterative to staying in a hotel. It was very private with lovely modern décor and is only about 10 mins drive into Bury town centre. I can highly recommend this place.
Review 116:My family liked everything about this accommodation. Especially the warm welcome and the small added touches that the owner thought of which made our stay that much more enjoyable and relaxing and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone.
Review 117:Noise all night was terrible from the road, like sleeping on the motor way
Review 118:Nice room
