Reviews for Hotel Rural El Refugio
Review 1:Wifi was a bit weak
Review 2:Everything was great! Friendly staff cooking warm homemade meals, steps from the Cruz de Tejeda Bus stop. Superb location and charm.
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:I love the place . Very quiet up in the mountains with close distance to highest peak pico de la nieves Owner are very friendly with smile on face , great home made food. Recommended for people who like to leave world behind and enjoy nature Very clean place with Spanish character
Review 5:Facilities are bit old, but it makes the experience authentic.
Review 6:The owner was very nice and welcoming, location in a quiet village, surrounded by beautiful sceneries.
Review 7:Hair dryer didn't really work.
Review 8:It's an old but very well maintained hotel. The room is nicely decorated. The bed is super comfortable. All staff there are very nice.
Review 9:We used booking.com map for directions and it led us up a secondary road instead of the main road. The drive from the airport to the hotel is a full hour of driving Our room wasn't cleaned every day, though they did ask us if we needed more toilet paper, towels, etc. The weather is definitely cooler and rainier up on the mountain
Review 10:The owners were so helpful and friendly! We liked being away from the resort towns Found a great restaurant in Tejada that we went to several times Breakfast was great and reasonable at 7 Euros per person per day (except they didn't have eggs on 2 out of 3 days) Great walks starting right from the hotel
Review 11:Perfect location for hiking within Tejeda area, perfect and friendly service from hotel owners, great home-made cousine from Gran Canaria, nice garden and totaly quiet location except the cockerel voice in the morning :-)
Review 12:We stayed before in Parador just opposite but this time we (a family with two teenage children) needed something more affordable in the same location. We arrived by bus from Las Palmas a little bit before the check in time, but the room was ready. Our goal was to walk to/from Roque Nublo. To our surprise, when he heard of our plan, the owner offered us a lift to car park near to Roque Nublo! When we came back from our walk, we were able to relax by the swimming pool. The room was comfortable even though the ceiling was a bit low for me. There is a restaurant and a very good value café nearby, or you may opt for a dinner in the hotel.
Review 13:Old-fashioned room with some kind of strange smell. No hair dryer available. Bed smelled strange. It was freezing and the small electric heating could not heat up the whole room. The hotel looks nice and comfortable from outside (nice garden and community room), but the inside need to be improved. Also, if you're hungry after 8pm, there was only one restaurant (another hotel) open in Cruz de Tejeda. We had to take the car to drive to Tejeda.
Review 14:Located in the middle of the island. Very nice view over the island and a good starting point for hikes.
Review 15:It's remote, in case you don't have car. Think twice then, especially if you are planning to stay for more days. Getting decent food can be challenging without a car. Avoid the restaurant (Yolanda) next to the hotel.
Review 16:Cosy and clean room with comfortable bed. The atmosphere and the facilities are a bit outdated but the overall experience was good.
Review 17:the swimming pool is not usable. beware breakfast only available.only option to walk to for evening is expensive hotel opposite
Review 18:helpful manager,beautiful location.
Review 19:There was no central heating. It gets cold in the mountains- especiallyin February. It was freezing. The manager started a fire in the sittingroom at 6 pm, it went out at 6:15. The only dining option at night (ifyou don't have a car) is the pricey Parador across the road.
Review 20:The staff was so lovely, and the place was quaint....and seemedauthentic.
Review 21:Extremely cold with only heating in room by small electric heater. Bathroom no heating whatsoever. Hotel should not be used in months Nov-Feb. Floor had ants constant next to bed and crawling over furniture.
Review 22:In summer OK good location, decent breakfast it is basic - but would choose more expensive option in future
Review 23:There is not very much around - the restaurants close very early and are really expensive.
Review 24:The hotel is just next to some trails so it is a perfect location for cycling and walking.
Review 25:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful even though I didn't speak any Spanish. They went out of their way to help us out and make it a nice stay.
Review 26:Fantactic location, very fiendly staff. Great experience
Review 27:Very cold in the livingrooms in january. Cold also in the bathroom. No hairdryer.
Review 28:Nice small guest house, beatiful view. Good for hikers.
Review 29:Friendly staff and very serviceminded
Review 30:In the ideal world , a heated swimming pool, as it was winter !
Review 31:It was a stunning location with a traditional building .
Review 32:Location was perfect
Review 33:The bedroom is with sloping ceiling, you have to mind your head all the time
Review 34:Very friendly and helpful staff, family feeling.
Review 35:No restaurant if you get there late, and the room was dirty.
Review 36:Really nice staff!
Review 37:The economy rooms take a bit of getting used to, but we got what we paid for so no complaints
Review 38:The owners
Review 39:The staff is truly amazing! Thank you for everything.
Review 40:Nice views.
Review 41:Rustic, comfortable, great location, really helpful staff.
Review 42:Fantastic staff.
Review 43:Ease of finding it! Comfortable despite it being rather cold and wet. Very reasonable rate.
Review 44:a room with low ceiling and no window, a bathroom with a glasless window (temp outside = 5°), dirty carpet...
Review 45:the location
Review 46:Head room in the attic
Review 47:Views & village centre
Review 48:Pool too small & lack of half board.
Review 49:Accomodation & breakfasts
Review 50:Slightly expensive for what it is.
Review 51:I don't remember ticking the 'kitten' box on the booking form, so perhaps kittens are included as standard. Mine spent the whole night sleeping on my bed. Dinner was a quirky experience but tasty. Take layers - it gets chilly up there at night!
Review 52:Este es el peor hotel en el que me he alojado en! Yes that's right, this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed in the third week of November. The room was freezing cold. The air con. did not heat up the room even when turned up to 30C. Heavy blankets on bed, no quilt. We could not sleep it was so cold. The room was tiny barely able to fit the bed. The bathroom was a joke! A tiny three foot bath with a poor quality shower attachment. The hot water ran out before we could finish the shower. The so called restaurant was freezing cold and there was basically no choice of menu. I did not like the one meal I had there. I asked for an expresso coffee, no sorry we can't do this!! The coffee was dreadful, point being they could not even manage the basics! The cook Roberto did his best to look after us but he spoke no English. We had to park in the public car park down the road from the hotel, not nice when it is bucketing rain. When you add the cost of the breakfast our stay in a four star hotel in Vecindario was cheaper and much much better!
Review 53:Fire in the common room but we only found this because we heard Spanish guests in the room.
Review 54:Our second visit to this hotel and I must admit we were impressed. The hotel has recently changed the owner and the direction and you can notice it everywhere. Many changes getting on and must say that as a client very much appreciated. The room was clean and aired, garden well cared, everything is nice and clean and now there is very pleasant and personalised attention to the client, (thank you Jesus and Berta) they do not speak German, but with Spanish and English more than sufficient, considering we are talking about a little mountain hotel. We have ordered a picnic pack for our trip to Roque Nublo and got it really nicely presented, in a little paper bags, very cute. Nice little restaurant in the hotel itself for the breakfast or the option to eat in the restaurant next door used for lunches or dinner, Exquisite Kanarien cousine , where you could either choose menu of the day(economical option), or choose something from the normal menu famous for grilled pig, and grilled meat The pool is not heated, but we got there in the hot wave and was lovely refreshing, maybe too cold for winter season, but for summer, the pool definitely the best choice negative? Nothing bad to be said, only positive points, I would definitely recommend to anybody who is searching for some relax in the mountains and does not want to share the hotel with crowd of people as here they have only something like 12 rooms, real paradise and oasis of tranquility. Many routes for tracking and hiking and good for biking too.
Review 55:Cloudy swimming pool.
Review 56:Great location for walks. Good and filling evening meal and breakfast.
Review 57:Very cold weather and freezing hotel room. Also baars closed because wednesday.
Review 58:Nice sunset and sunrise.
Review 59:All good. We have nice dinner.
