Reviews for Ravenwood Hall Hotel
Review 1:Every single noise from the adjacent rooms - TV, water pumps, creaking floorboards - was audible. At 6am. Staff completely uninterested (and realistically little they could do). Breakfast expensive (30 pounds for 2 additional guests) and nothing special (one sausage, one mushroom, overcooked scrambled eggs, cardboard-like bacon, toast, coffee in pot). These are minor complaints, but at 95 pounds per night (or 145 in the main building!) Ravenwood Hall really need to up their game. I've paid that much for 4-star hotels abroad, and in the UK I've had better experiences at B&Bs in the 70-80 pound range.
Review 2:Very nice old building and easy to find.
Review 3:Do not stay in mews rooms at weekend. Music from party held at hotel was actually making everything in our room vibrate. Music not turned off until midnight
Review 4:Christmas decorations
Review 5:This hotel is stunning but it was the staff who really made it. We were met at check in with a surprise upgrade and all through our stay the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome.
Review 6:The service at breakfast time was somewhat chaotic. It was a pity there were no radio channels available on the TV in the bedroom, which as the TV was using Freeview was puzzling
Review 7:Friendliness and helpfulness of staff, the grounds of the hotel were beautiful and the domestic livestock were an entertaining distraction. The choice of dishes at breakfast was excellent. The swimming pool was a plus.
Review 8:Staff didn't make us aware of the portions of breakfast hence the starters etc with the menu. We just ordered a main- thinking it was a regular portion- so would have been good to be made aware of this
Review 9:Friendly knowledgeable staff
Review 10:Room was very warm on arrival , would benefit from air conditioning. Bed was hard with very soft pillows.
Review 11:The staff were very helpful throughout. The food was very enjoyable (I'm a veggie)
Review 12:In the morning I discovered that the bath waste was blocked No time so I went without a shower I pointed this out when i checked out and was asked if everything was OK I was told i should have reported it earlier I am not in the habit of checking rooms I expect the staff to do that There was no milk in the room either No suggestion of a reduction in the bill
Review 13:Great location relaxed atmosphere good food good waiter service
Review 14:Unfortunately the service & breakfast was very poor. Coffee was served with no milk. Toast was served with no butter. No grapefruit available so ordered fruit & yogurt instead which never arrived even when we reminded the waitress twice! Despite this the breakfast that did arrive after a long wait tasted wonderful! Compliments to the chef.w
Review 15:The hotel had great ambience inside & out. Room nicely decorated. Great that the heating was on. So welcoming to come back to a lovely warm room.
Review 16:The staff were very welcoming and looked after as if we were the only ones staying - we weren't it was full! The food was exceptional from the smoked salmon sandwiches, the Asparagus soup with a small bread crumbed soft boiled egg in the middle to a breakfast served to you rather than buffet style. Although only a short distance from the A14 it was like entering a different world driving up a gravelled drive to the peace and quiet of a proper country manor house.
Review 17:not wanting to place any negative on an amazing day but a gent working in the main house on the evening was quite rude to guests(tall chap, glasses in a suit) not just from the wedding party
Review 18:Absolutely fantastic staff in pavilion and wedding planners. One of the guests forgot his trousers for his suit. The hotel owner could not do enough to assist to the point he went home and got him a pair. Amazing thank you.
Review 19:No faults in our opinion.
Review 20:The room, staff and food was excellent. We had the pleasant sure of a free room upgrade which made our stay even more enjoyable. Definitely would stay again.
Review 21:A room with only one chair. A bathroom radiator with broken thermostat which was capable of inflicting a nasty burn. And hot water not far short of boiling, without any earning notice!
Review 22:The setting. Such beautiful grounds, amazing trees. Such an atmosphere of peace and beauty.
Review 23:Lovely friendly staff, excellent food and service. Felt very comfortable taking our 2 dogs, a big fuss made of them and the mews rooms are perfect to get them straight out into the large grounds. Good position of hotel, near to A14.
Review 24:Only felt the TV was a little far away from the bed but a minor complaint
Review 25:Loved the friendly atmosphere of an individual hotel. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. We were upgraded to Deans room which was lovely. Thank you for a super stay
Review 26:no complaints!
Review 27:Last minute find through the Good Shoot hotel guide, Was as described, loved the quirky room. Breakfast and dinner excellent, served with style and humour! would recommend so would my dog who was also made welcome!
Review 28:My colleague and I arrived at just after 7. I noticed a couple of flies in my room but didn’t think much about it at the time as we had to hurry for dinner. When I returned later in the evening there were live flies in the room buzzing around the lights. It was a busy evening with a Christmas do on so I didn't bother to look for someone to complain to. In the morning I counted 8 live flies as well as a couple that had hit the floor. I had been told good things about the hall and how much I would enjoy my stay but I’m afraid I would be very reluctant to stay here again as I didn’t have a very good night’s sleep and feel will have to wash everything that came out of my case as now consider it to be dirty. There was no one to speak to upon departure but when I emailed my complaint I was told "The only explanation I can give you is that as the outside of the hotel façade is covered in Ivy and as last night was an extremely mild night for this time of the year, then the flies would have been more lively than dormant at this time. The housekeeping team will have serviced and prepared your room earlier in the day and I can assure you that they would not have left any flies in your room when servicing it.". My colleague next door had no "visitors" and I still don't know how they would have got in!
Review 29:Breakfast staff very courteous
Review 30:The only down side from a personal point was the mattress was to hard for myself but my husband said it was fine.
Review 31:What was not to like found the staff very accommodating and friendly felt like a home from home.
Review 32:There was nothing which you could dislike. I was given a key to open the front door for a late return to the hotel (midnight), but it would not work. Fortunately there was a night porter who responded to a telephone call. I dragged him out of bed and he opened the door and confirmed the key didn't work. Minor inconvenience and they changed the key the following morning.
Review 33:Beautiful grounds, great location and a historic property, with sensitivity in atmosphere in furnishings and bedroom styles. Very friendly staff, who were responsive to questions and suggestions. Quiet and relaxing.
Review 34:We stayed in Mews 1, and found the room quite small.
Review 35:Staff all very attentive, especially at reception. Really went out of their way to make my wife and I welcome.Made sure our room was available really early as we had a wedding to attend ! First class attention !
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:Well indicated and accessible off the A14 close to Bury St Edmund's in delightful parkland, Ravenwood is a well ordered, comfortable building, which on this hot summer's day had a pleasant secluded seating and eating area around a swimming pool. The main rooms were plush and comfortable. We stayed in an adjacent annex which was quiet, comfortable and convenient. And above all - something that doesn't always come with pleasant surroundings - the menu had an excellent choice and the food excellent. The staff throughout could not have been more welcoming or efficient and the whole place seemed to work as a unit to deliver a good experience - standards presumably set by the family owners.
Review 38:Remote traffic noise. Fortunately this did not penetrate the bedroom.
Review 39:Relaxing ambience, helpful and friendly staff. The happy looking outdoor animals
Review 40:Nothing, all good
Review 41:Great place! Very friendly staff, always willing to help. Excellent food. Would recommend to anyone. Could have easily have stayed longer than three nights.
Review 42:Noise from motorway spoils what would otherwise be a beautiful country house hotel.
Review 43:Food was good at every level. Pool an added bonus. Lovely grounds. Happy staff. Excellent service.
Review 44:Room not in main building was small

Review 54:A little bit quiet in terms of bar and restaurant.
Review 55:Very atmospheric in scenic location.
Review 56:The other geusts!

Review 58:Lovely hotel. Nice and friendly staff
Review 59:Staff were very attentive and helpful, compared to other (Travel Inn's) etc, worth additional cost.

Review 65:location, cleanliness and staff
Review 66:Everything!
Review 67:The food in the restaurant was excellent. The staff were very friendly and approachable.
Review 68:Lovely setting great hotel. Our room was amazing with a great view and both dinner and breakfast were superb
Review 69:Lengthy kitchen delays meant meals took a very long time
Review 70:Eclectic decoration
Review 71:Slow service. Restaurant expensive - they need a bar menu. Isolated location.
Review 72:Rooms were nice but a little tired.
Review 73:Nothing to fault at this hotel, everything was exceptional, staff very helpful, food was out of this world. And the hotel looks just amazing

Review 83:Friendly staff.
Review 84:It was comfortable to stay in and staff was very friendly
Review 85:Peacefull setting
Review 86:The service was very good the staff we very polite and helpful. I will stay here again.
Review 87:Location, could hear traffic noise.
Review 88:All Staff very friendly.
Review 89:I had real problems locking the bedroom door due to the huge piece of wood that is attached to the key, it prevents you being able to turn the key efficiently - I had to ask a member of staff to come and do it for me. Wood is not functional, services no purpose and is not necessary.
Review 90:Location as it was peaceful and no traffic noise, food excellent.
Review 91:Unfortunately I didn't like the food. We had a sandwich for lunch and it was very expensive for what you got and it didn't taste very nice either. Wasn't that impressed with breakfast either.
Review 92:Stayed in the Mews, my room was very nice - my parents room was nice but much smaller for the same price? Was attending a wedding so all in all we had a nice weekend.
Review 93:Curtains, did not keep together across door. Had to put something on the floor to keep them together. Room quite small
Review 94:Location, staff at reception of wedding gave excellent service. size of towels and very hot water
Review 95:Room keys within the main house are quite bulky due to a large piece of wood identifying your room which is connected to the key thus making it difficult to open the lock of the door
Review 96:Friendliness of staff; quality of accommodation; excellent food
Review 97:The steps to Mews 7 were very slippery and dangerous. I know weather didn't help, but I slipped every time I went to my room. The room was lovely, very creeky floor boards, but would avoid it again because of the stairs. Didn't help you access from outside main house and open to elements.
Review 98:Excellent staff, all very pleasant.
Review 99:When I am told the duck is being served pink i expect the duck to be still quacking on the plate - it was grey and if you are setting yourself up as a gourmet restaurant, you should serve steak knives with duck - I know I am being over-picky but that was all I could find fault with
Review 100:The staff are clearly some of the best and most loveliest people - breakfast was like being served by your favourite grannie and I would not fault it. Definitely worth staying here
Review 101:I have stayed at Ravenwood a couple of times and I made a group booking via my booking.com account. On checkout all three rooms were debited a £40 "deposit" which effectively is there no show policy. Problem is that the hotel then charged my own credit card £120 for all three rooms!!! I do not agree that they should do this and encourage people to watch out for this practice.
Review 102:Knob came off door handle; were reported this but it was not fixed overour two day stay. Lock on bathroom door did not work. Not much choce forvegetarians for breakfast.
Review 103:Friendly helpful staff. There were two weddings on the same day but wewere not aware of any clash or noise and the staff gave all theireattention desoite being very busy
Review 104:they were very frendly even gave us an upgrade room because we had our silver weding to celebrate at that time!. The food was delicious!, many thanks again!
Review 105:Would have liked to have known there was a wedding at the hotel. Felt like we were imposing a bit and then couldn't get to sleep as the music went on in to the night. We were sat next to a couple who were allowed to bring their dogs in to the restaurant for their evening meal. The cups in the room were stained/dirty
Review 106:Lovely looking hotel. friendly greeting by receptionist. Fantastic breakfast
Review 107:Very friendly and helpful staff, particularly Maeve who served breakfasts. She was a joy to come down to in the mornings! A lovely peaceful country setting.

Review 111:Staff are amazing, Food is amazing, WIFI coverage is good and free. Its a hotel where staff genuinely make you feel like they care. :-)
Review 112:There was nothing to dislike, it was all excellent.
Review 113:The staff were excellent, i stay in many hotels and i have to say this has to be my favourite. The food is outstanding and is good value, you also get to choose from different menus to suit different budgets. I usually sit downstairs and work whilst i eat, and sometimes feel uncomfortable, here i was relaxed and did not feel like i was in the way. I will definitley be coming back, i dont think i could sty anywhere else now.
