Reviews for Village Inn

Review 1:Limited choice for Sunday Evening meal, limited choice. Order the beef pie and had to send back. Staff were very good and understanding

Review 2:Staff friendly.

Review 3:Loved everything about the village inn. Nothing to complain about.

Review 4:Another fabulous Hogmanay spent at the village inn. Even though is was extremely busy the staff were always pleasant and professional . Looking forward to booking up for this year.

Review 5:Stayed for three nights so small talk with staff became good conversations, which was nice. Location is absolutely amazing for short runs or long walks.

Review 6:Stayed here over Christmas and we were made to feel very welcome. We spent Christmas day walking around Glen Loin, arriving back late but were still able to have a wonderful dinner.

Review 7:Just to be picky, five things we didn't like - the hot tap didn't work (just turned and turned and no water came out). The hand soap was actually antibacterial gel which doesnt work when washing your hands with water, it seemed a bit bizarre. The entrance to the car park was soo badly full of potholes it was impossible to avoid and I feel lucky my car didn't get damaged. Absolutely apalling and I wouldn't drive back in there. Dinner was tasty and a fair price but my meal wasn't as described - definitely not a chicken breast with parma ham etc, it was a breaded chicken escallope. And lastly we ordered the same round 4 or 5 times and it cost a different price every time between £6 and £8. Not bothered about the price, just that it was so different every time.

Review 8:The location is brilliant, right opposite the loch with a lovely view. Staff were very friendly. We loved the rustic Scottish feel to the room and found it very clean. It was so peaceful. Brilliant value for money and breakfast was perfect. The pub was great with loads of places to sit and more than one log fire on the go. We were very impressed and would definitely recommend it/go back.

Review 9:The friendly Christmas welcome we got and the loch view room and the staff .Its a beautiful hotel with a gorgeous view and lovely log burning cosy fires.

Review 10:Food was dissapointing, the room was noisy and they closed the bar earlier than advertised and with no notice.

Review 11:Scenery was great and breakfast was good

Review 12:There weren't enough staff around at busy times though they are very friendly. Wifi didn't work TV reception only worked for one channel

Review 13:Had room overlooking the loch - superb view. Very lively evening in the bar with live music. Cosy on a cold wet evening with open fires

Review 14:There was a lack of comfortable chairs or loungers in the hotel with most chairs designed for dining. Would have liked comfortable sofa to relax by lovely open fire.

Review 15:The hotel food was lovely and had a varied menu. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was very comfortable with a great view over the Loch.

Review 16:3 things: 1) When we arrived we asked whether it would be possible to have breakfast at 7am and were told that this is not possible, that breakfast is from 8-10, as there is no staff there earlier. It says however in the information in the rooms that breakfast is at 7.30 and it is possible to have breakfast earlier. As we wanted to do a long walk we had to change our plans because of that. 2) We had dinner in the inn restaurant on the evening of our arrival. The food was good, but we had to ask twice for some tap water and the dessert menu. There were 8 customers there and 3 staff so you would think that service would be quicker. 3) The tiles on the bathroom floor were loose and moving around a bit, this felt a bit unsafe and there was only black tea and coffee in the rooms - some herbal tea would have been nice.

Review 17:Very comfy beds and good breakfast. Lovely and quick staff great in the morning, staff slow and forgetful in the evening.

Review 18:Nothing

Review 19:Location, ambience, friendly and helpful staff. Decent food. Comfortable and cosy bedroom with nice touches. Good bathroom facilities. Fantastic view from room and restaurant.

Review 20:Having to come home!

Review 21:Very friendy staff. Great food- very quick service and good portions. Great country atmosphere; exactly what I want when I visit Scotland. Gorgeous views from the hotel of Loch Long.

Review 22:Being picky, we'd have liked a lounge / lounge bar to sit in, whilst the rain lashed down outside - comfy chairs by the fire rather than just the restaurant.

Review 23:We had a very comfortable room, bed was comfy, and there was an amazingly large bath with lots of hot water - a real treat after a day walking in the rain! Breakfasts and dinners were delicious with a good choice available and helpful staff.

Review 24:Not quite a genuine village type inn, I expected local produce on the menu, like mussels, mackerel but the menu is what I'd call corporate chain oreintated.

Review 25:location is fantastic, room 3 overlooks the loch

Review 26:friendliness of staff and helping get us some food even though we had turned up late. Breakfast was amazing but huge. The room was nice and comfortable and quiet.

Review 27:I couldn't imagine anyone having a bad experience in this hotel.

Review 28:I love everything about this hotel; it's character, cleanliness, open log fires, beautiful, very good value for money food, and wonderful staff, who go out of their way to make your stay as welcoming and happy as possible.

Review 29:The quality of food has gone down since our last visit. The eggs benedict looked awful - hollandaise sauce was curdled - hadn't even been assembled correctly! The waitress looked embarrassed when serving it! The bedroom looked as if it was up to the usual standard but there were no toiletries. This was reported to reception who dealt with the issue - came along a few minutes later with some replacements which included a half bottle of shampoo! The final nail was the discovery of a cockroach in our bedroom when leaving.

Review 30:We have been coming to the Village Inn for the past 3 years. Love the location and on previous visits the staff have been excellent - friendly and efficient. Couldn't say the same on this visit.

Review 31:The atmosphere was great and all the staff were very nice. The view from our room was amazing looking directly onto the loch and the room was spotless and lovely and warm. We had the curry meal deal which was delicous and great value £8.29 for curry and a drink excellent we thought! The breakfast was delicous as well all grilled and not greasy at all mmmm we will definitely be back thank you

Review 32:There is no sound proofing between the bedrooms, I could hear ever movement amazingly clearly from above as if being in front of a speaker cabinet. Luckily, the people above only moved three times during the night but it could be nightmare-ish. The window wouldn't close after being opened and they had run out of Sunday roasts by 7pm.

Review 33:The inn is great quality, in a beautiful location. The bedrooms have been refurbished to a very high standard. They support local beers and there is a wide choice of food at reasonable prices. It is widely supported by the locals and deserves to thrive as I went there 15 years ago and it was similarly stunning.

Review 34:Really warm welcome when we arrived, which was especially nice as we had walked from the bus stop in the pouring rain. They had already booked us a table for the evening at their restaurant which had amazing food! The location was wonderful, with beautiful views and the place was just cozy and authentic. Easy check-in and out and clean rooms. Definitely recommend!

Review 35:The reception needs to have a more welcoming feel. The meals at night are much like a weatherspoons type of menu, we felt the hotel was fitting of a more pleasing home made style cooking.

Review 36:The location and the garden out the front of the hotel is lovely. The staff were cheerful and polite and our room was nice. Breakfast was good.

Review 37:This is not a pristine establishment, and if it was, it would lose it's unique atmosphere. It might not appeal to everyone, but we loved it.

Review 38:Both my wife and I love the rustic feel of this hotel. Nothing is a problem for the staff---a reall jolly bunch.

Review 39:Facilities in room 12, were not of a good standard, there were large screws protruding from the chest of drawers, the bed was uncomfortable and was in need of replacement, shower was non exciting, toilet floor tiles moving and just general cleanliness. Breakfast should be a Scottish breakfast not with Cumbrian sausages no no!!!!!!. Food did not come up to our expectations, this may be due to the change in the menu before we arrived

Review 40:location, staff, parking, walks.

Review 41:Good place to stay for exploring the Loch Lomond area. Hearty breakfasts and enjoyable evening meals in the restaurant. Friendly staff. Beautiful location right on Loch Long

Review 42:Shocking food service - nothing available on menu - we got knocked back a staggering 3 times on choices of desert and 2 main course dishes and to follow were advised in the morning one of the breakfast items on the menu was unavailable - salmon and scrambled eggs in Scotland! - are u having a laugh?shoddy show - the front of house manager hides away behind the bar trying to make himself look busy - not answering phone behind bar and leaving the rest of staff to take flack from other complaining customers..man up!

Review 43:Great location - great looking premises - nice bar restaurant and room - clean and fresh.

Review 44:Good location on the Loch and as a base to explore the Western Highlands. We stayed for 4 nights and had good and varied evening meals in the restaurant every night. The breakfasts were excellent and set us up for the day.

Review 45:Good atmosphere and great views. It's a good starting point to explore Loch Lomond area and even further up north to eg. Oban .or very close by Arthur's Seat. Good and fair food is offered in the restaurant, which is fully reserved every night so make sure to have a reservation. Overall service is correct and friendly , a bit with some distance compared to some B&B 's but not a problem at all.

Review 46:We were in room number 6 and the noise from the guests above was terrible, I even found out who they were and spoke to them about it but this just seemed to make the noise worse on the second night, Can't blame the hotel just some stupid and selfish guests who like the colour mustard and looked dead behind the eyes.

Review 47:The staff were friendly and the food was good, The views and location are lovely. The room was comfortable and warm.

Review 48:Only that our room was right next to the air conditioning which was very loud

Review 49:Lovely hotel really nice room and great food . This is the 2nd time we have been here and it was just as good this time

Review 50:Nothing this hotel is perfect!!!

Review 51:Amazing location, very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful hotel and an amazing breakfast...100 % will be going back with the family for a proper stay next summer...Best hotel I've ever stayed in.

Review 52:Location on the Loch is excellent. It was assumed that guests would want to eat supper in the restaurant and a table was automatically reserved without obligation. Food was good and reasonably priced.

Review 53:Bathroom was a little shabby and not as nice as the bedroom which looked like it had been recently updated

Review 54:Fantastic location, friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast and lovely room. Great atmosphere in the bar and the resturant

Review 55:had a permanent green light on a unit on the ceiling day &night.Asked a member of staff if someone could look at this to see if this was normal, but had no feed back.

Review 56:Very warm and friendly welcome. Staff very accommodating. Very good food. We stayed on a Saturday night so there was live music which gave the place a great atmosphere. This is a proper thriving village pub.

Review 57:we were given a room in the annex which overlooked the dumpsters and burn pile. there was mod on the windows and dust in the bathroom. obviously, trip did not stay in this room

Review 58:the restaurant and wait staff

Review 59:There was no lounge or TV room and no comfortable seating, just wooden chairs in public areas. TV in bedroom was placed so high, that the picture was distorted when viewed from the bed or chair.

Review 60:Stunning view over Loch Long. Good breakfast.

Review 61:Overnight B&B rate slightly on the high side

Review 62:Fantastic location and Village Inn ambiance on waters edge of Loch Long. Great evening meal and good breakfast. Room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly, welcoming and helpful

Review 63:The down side was the noise when people left the pub late on the Friday night as our room was almost over the front door.

Review 64:The room was very comfortably furnished with a wonderful view over the loch

Review 65:Everything was good about the Village Inn from the welcome to departure. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Food was excellent as was the real ale. Location was good. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

Review 66:As repeat visitors this is a perfect location for touring the area the hotel is very good the staff are welcoming and very helpful in all a very good place to stay and perfect for short walks around area.

Review 67:the room is very small the wifi was impossible to catch from the room

Review 68:the location next to the loch is perfect the room is silent although it is next to the restaurant

Review 69:Room a little small so felt a bit 'hemmed in'. Bed mattress not that comfortable. Walls a bit thin so if there are any noisy 'neighbours' then you will hear them.

Review 70:Beautiful location. Staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Quality food from an extensive menu.

Review 71:Lovely location, very welcoming staff, great room with all you would expect, and s fantastic breakfast. The only disappointment was that there was no fresh local fish on the dinner menu, otherwise we really enjoyed our stay - particularly after being rerouted for over an hour before arriving!

Review 72:nothing it was as we expected although there was not a very good reception on television

Review 73:lovely location beautiful views friendly people would definitely return

Review 74:Just an fwi- there is no "vanity in the bathroom to put toiletries onto.

Review 75:you have an excellent chef! The dinner was top rate. Beautiful location. Thank you.

Review 76:The room was very small and had no chair. We had to carry our luggage through two rooms of the busy restaurant and up a flight of stairs. The wifi was very feeble. There was mold all around the windows.

Review 77:Lovely old Inn, nice room at the cottage behind the main building. Friendly staff, great location and great food and local beers. What's not to like.

Review 78:The location is almost unbelievable, an amazing room with awe inspiring views, all the staff who were friendly and helpful. Also the food. Just a wonderful stay. Intend to return.

Review 79:Only negative point which is very insignificant was the wifi was to slow for sky go and the pga golf was on so my husband was a it miffed as he wanted to know scores ..... Shame ha!

Review 80:Very friendly owners and other staff, accommodating and very welcoming

Review 81:a bit too far from everything it is difficult to reach if you don't have a car. You need to drive to other villages for activities as a cruises in the lochs...

Review 82:The location was awesome. And the building was very cleaned. Our bedroom was cleaned and the bed was comfortable

Review 83:The staff were clearly overworked, and dining room staff were forgetful. Refuse bins directly outside bedroom window Insufficient space around beds in Room 11

Review 84:Location.

Review 85:The fabulous location and very friendly staff made this a pleasant stay. The food is good pub grub and my room in an annex behind the main building was quiet and comfortable.

Review 86:Breakfast was a little bit hit n miss. We got what we ordered, but quite a few other things we didn't order, so not sure how that worked out for other diners.

Review 87:Amazing location and superb decor in the rooms, great place for a stopover.

Review 88:They over booked for dinner, or didn't like to turn away customers who hadn't booked, meaning our booked table was really delayed and we ate really late.

Review 89:Lovely cosy place, staff really friendly and helpful. Comfortable, nice beer and good food.

Review 90:Everything was excellent, the wonderful welcome and superb service from every member of staff, in the gloriously atmospheric surroundings and then along came the fantastic food!

Review 91:Great location overlooking Loch Long, attractive looking inn in olde worlde style. Really friendly, helpful staff, fantastic food in the restaurant.

Review 92:Perhaps the breakfast times could be extended at the weekend. Even by another half hour?

Review 93:The food was excellent as were the staff. The room was lovely, with beautiful views over the loch. We loved the live folk music on our first night. Definitely a bonus.

Review 94:There wasn't a single thing we didn't like.

Review 95:This staff understands what hospitality is! Comfortable room, cosy bar, excellent food. And all this with the stunning views over Loch Long. Can't wait to go back!!!

Review 96:Lovely place to stay - has recently been taken over so we will see what's its like on our next visit... Only complaint was that there are no comfortable areas with sofas to sit. Wooden upright chairs everywhere.

Review 97:Staff are very good and the food is pretty good too.

Review 98:Depending upon which room you stay in the bed is not that comfortable and for a business traveller there are no tables in the room so nowhere to work.

Review 99:Staff are excellent and location is very good. The food is very good quality

Review 100:Usual wet and windy weather for July in Scotland!

Review 101:Great food and accommodation and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Really like the location which is not too far from home.

Review 102:Breakfast quality and choice very poor. Service far too slow. Even after a half hour wait brought that which was not ordered!,

Review 103:Staff at reception and dinner

Review 104:Bed a bit uncomfortable and shower a bit hard to get right temperature

Review 105:Excellent breakfast with Excellent view and lovely friendly helpful staff. Good variety menu for evening meals. Good value for your money all around

Review 106:Nothing (okay, maybe the little midges during the walk along the loch)

Review 107:Waterside room with nice view; great pub with good food and drink; friendly and helpful staff; picturesque village.

Review 108:Could hardly get a wifi signal (although it was the room at the end of the corridor).

Review 109:Had a good night's sleep as the hotel and the whole village is very quiet. The price was quite good and the room was comfortable. It's nice to sit in front of the hotel having a drink and watching the loch.

Review 110:Projecting wood round bed with sharp corners. Would have liked a walk in shower as I'm disabled - bath bit high to climb into and no grab rails

Review 111:View of loch

Review 112:We stayed in the annex in the back, and there was a room upstairs from us, we could hear footsteps and other noises. Wifi in the room was intermittent at best. Also, the room had no view since the windows had froster glass. Only when opening the top pane could we catch a glimpse of the mountains. Also, the fire safety light had to stay on all night and the door to our room had no curtain which made it difficult to make the room dark to sleep. But these were not major issues, and the great discount we got on the room made up for the discomfort.

Review 113:Beautiful inn, great dinner and breakfast. Very picturesque.

Review 114:So very dissappointing the room was dingy couldn't open windows because of midges swarming everywhere. The barman was very rude!! Couldn't recommend it to anyone!!!

Review 115:Our room was directly above the bar which was noisy. We couldn't shut the bathroom window and the "shaving light" would not turn off - result was thousands of dead midges in the morning,

Review 116:Great breakfast, nice room, great location, Staff were friendly and professional.

Review 117:Room only had one chair and it was difficult to find somewhere for our second suitcase although both are only cabin-baggage size.

Review 118:Helpful staff. Busy bar. Good food

Review 119:Cleanliness of hotel room was a bit below standard expected. WIFI was very poor in most areas except the lobby

Review 120:Location very picturesque and lots to explore. Loch Lomond worth a cruise around...great history lesson.

Review 121:Nothing!!!!!!!

Review 122:The staff were attentive without being overbearing, the evening meal was excellent as was the full Scottish breakfast. It's difficult to beat rural Scotland for scenery, the "Village Inn" is perfectly placed to take advantage of this.

Review 123:Ridiculously loud noise from the plumbing whenever anyone had a shower or used the toilet kept us awake at times. Food is OK but nothing special for the price. Vegetarian breakfast is basically a full breakfast with the meat items removed which is not good enough in 2015. Tiny TV in bedrooms.

Review 124:The location.

Review 125:Brakes marmalade and jam portions (would prefer Dundee marmalade) at breakfast.

Review 126:Complimentary Tunnocks caramel wafers, sporon curtain ties, friendly staff, good quality local ales, excellent food.

Review 127:Nothing.

Review 128:We were very pleased that the staff were so caring towards us. They also seem to care as much for the (excellent) quality of their cask-conditioned beer!

The Fine Print

Please note that for guests booking a stay with half board, the dinner is a 3-course set menu.
