Reviews for Capercaillie

Review 1:Not a bad experience, but if you bring pets, bring a big sheet to cover the bed as it was very low- dogs can just get up if they want to! I always bring a cover just in case as no matter what you say, the hairy beasts are going to try and get on the bed!!

Review 2:Just what we were looking for! Pet friendly, good location, nice breakfast, and good evening meals.

Review 3:Not good for people with walking difficulties due to very steep slope to the rooms. Parking was down a steep hill at the other side of the accommodation.

Review 4:Lovely setting. Room was nice. Good breakfast selection.

Review 5:The waitress on the Sunday morning, that seated us for breakfast was very blunt and a bit unwelcoming when we first went into restaurant until she realised we were residents. Not sure what difference it makes but the difference in her attitude was night and day

Review 6:The location was beautiful,my room(number 4) was very comfortable had an amazing view of the garden,I was even watching some red squirrels playing!

Review 7:The evening meal we had was very disappointing. There was also a karaoke event on in the restaurant above our room until 1am so we couldn't get much sleep until aftet that.

Review 8:Great location, nice ensuite bedroom, lovely breakfast, friendly staff.

Review 9:I know it's a room used for pets but perhaps installing an automatic air freshner or something similar. A very slight odour in the room. It was not unpleasant and it did not spoil my stay in any way at all. Space for parking is precious. If you are not good with tight spaces, do not park in it.

Review 10:Having brought my dog the ground floor room was perfect. Opening out into the garden was handy and also lovely to see all the wildlife and brilliant to see the falls on your doorstep. As close as they were, I couldn't hear them in the room. I know there are a lot of lovely places to stay in Killin but this room was ideal having the dog. All of the staff were very nice and welcoming.

Review 11:My wife and I stayed the weekend in the Capercaillie to allow me to take part in the GO33 ultra marathon. The race started early and when the staff found out I was taking part I was offered a breakfast at 6:30 a.m. if I wanted one. The bar staff, room staff and restaurant staff were all welcoming, witty and warm. We had a great view from our room of the river - we were even lucky enough to see some red squirrels. And I cannot sign off without saying what a great breakfast selection. The morning after the race I had the full works. Delicious! I'll be back to run the race again - and this will be the first accommodation I'll enquire after.

Review 12:Nothing bad to report, ongoing refurbishment, no noise, this didnt effect our stay.

Review 13:Pristine Bedroom and Bathroom, newly refurbished. Good garden views, lots of birds and four Red Squirrels to watch. Friendly Staff, good food generous portions. Dog friendly, although we prefered our little dogs to sleep in the car, dogs can be accommodated in room.

Review 14:When we checked out, the staff member who took my cash didn't say thank you or otherwise acknowledge me.

Review 15:The room was very comfy and the shower was amazing. There were red squirrels running about the garden. Breakfast was good.

Review 16:I couldn't fault anything about my stay.

Review 17:I really enjoyed my stay here.I had one of the newly refurbished rooms which was large, bright and clean with a big on-suite.Views out to the garden with it's ducks and red squirrels and the river.Friendly, helpful staff and good food too.

Review 18:Absolutely nothing!

Review 19:Staff were very friendly, room was lovely with fantastic views, we loved watching the squirrels and the ducks from our window. Our 2 Jack Russell dogs were made very welcome by the staff and the locals.Food was lovely especially the breakfast

Review 20:Smell of smoke in corridor from entrance. lovely view marred by old garden furniture and a bath.

Review 21:Great location. Very friendly staff. Newly modernised bedrooms. Beds very comfortable. Great view over the garden to the river. Red squirrels visiting bird feeders.

Review 22:We are at a loss to understand how some reviewers can class this hotel as fabulous: we were put in one of the two downstairs, ground level rooms. The heating came on automatically at 16:30 despite us asking for it to be switched on earlier - until then our room was damp and cold. No heating at all in the bathroom, extractor fan didn't work (probably hadn't for some time) resulting in dark damp marks on the wall. In general the hotel, especially the rooms, is in need of renovation. Service at breakfast not terribly friendly, compared with the previous evening.

Review 23:Friendly and helpful staff. We liked the bar and found the restaurant met our needs for supper very well. Central (although Killin is not big!). Shower very good, hot and with good pressure.

Review 24:Receptionist was unfriendly and unhelpful (we needed an early breakfast and she wasn't interested in helping out). Bartender went out of his way to make it right. Somebody repeatedly smoked in the entry hallway (separate from the bar and restaurant - which were smoke-free) which made room access unpleasant. Additionally, while the room itself was non-smoking, smoke smell entered under the doorway and the room reeked in synchronization with smoke breaks. WiFi was so slow as to be unusable.

Review 25:Location was convenient to the town and pubs

Review 26:As the bedroom is next to kitchen exit the area was a bit messy. Reception staff could have been more helpful as had to go back up to get wifi code

Review 27:Great location and as we had bedroom 4 we got to look out at the garden with the ducks and red squirrel

Review 28:The Capercaillie is very run down and we were very disappointed when we arrived. The common parts are very shabby and you could smell cigarette smoke when walking through to the bedrooms. We could not connected to the Internet from our room and had to go to the dining area to get a connection which then lasted when we returned to our room. The bedroom floors were uneven and the mattress was uncomfortable. Certainly not worth the money. We were very glad that we only had to spend one night there!

Review 29:The view from the window at the back of the hotel. Staff were friendly.

Review 30:Fantastic all rounder , Staff lovely and helpful great value for money , Food plentiful and freshly prepared , Rooms spotless and had the best sleep , Location is just beautiful and the ducks in the morning were an added touch. Will be going back as soon as i can.

Review 31:The bathroom definitely needed updating. The general impression was a little rough and ready.

Review 32:Friendly staff, lovely garden next to river. Nice restaurant upstairs.

Review 33:The location is delightful, all of the staff are great , they are very friendly and really cannot do enough for you. The selection on the menu is great , and if I could complain it would be that the portion size is too big! The room we had was very nice and we awoke to ten ducks sleeping on the grass just outside our room. Killin is lovely , and the Capercallie is the best place to stay in my opinion.

Review 34:Ensuit has no heater and I found it very cold so in winter be freezing! When I paid my account the day before I left as was leaving early, the staff member told me price then took payment. She did not even ask if I enjoyed my stay or if everything was ok.

Review 35:Great location. Clean, comfortable room. Great shower. Most staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good but would have liked fresh fruit.

Review 36:Excellent accommodation in a truly beautiful environment. Lovely village, salmon stream 50m from our room, access to garden seats, good food, really friendly hosts.

Review 37:The mattress on the bed was far to soft and the radiator in the room was on full and would not turn down.

Review 38:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was excelient and plenty of it. The room and hotel was cleaned to a high standard.

Review 39:The beds were a bit on the low side for the older person. Parking could be better organised.

Review 40:The view from the rooms was beautiful, red squirrels an lots of birds in the gardens, lovely to wake up to.

Review 41:No mirrors near electrical point and no radiator in en-suite

Review 42:room overall was excellent. View from window of river was fab. staff were extremely helpful and breakfast of champions! :-)

Review 43:No complaints!

Review 44:Loved our stay! So friendly! We managed to check in a bit earlier and check out a bit later with no hassle. We were served breakfast despite being late. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff! Already looking to book up again! Fantastic hotel! Rooms were fab as was location but the staff made our stay exceptional!

Review 45:The dreaded midges - remember not to leave the window / vent open with the light on when going out at night.

Review 46:The access to the room was from the garden and it had full length windows for our dog to see out. Killin is central for most places and the scenery is stunning. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 47:That we weren't booked to stay longer

Review 48:Friendly staff, lovely large rooms, we stayed in a family room because we were taking out two dogs. Perfect size. Dogs were so welcome, as well as in other pubs and shops! Evening meal was delicious and breakfast was even better, great choice of food, great setting, and couldn't fault the place at all

Review 49:The damp smell of the room, not being able to have window open as latch broken, the view and smell of the back of the kitchen

Review 50:The view of the river and garden, service

Review 51:Bathroom floor very cold

Review 52:We had a great stay at Capercaillie in beautiful Killin. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very good value for money and the breakfast was amazing. We wanted to extend our stay but Capercaillie was fully booked. They offered us to put up our tent in their garden! Lovely lovely lovely.

Review 53:A young child in the bar running about and pushing past people. Was a bit late for a child to be in the bar.

Review 54:The location of the hotel is great and the views of the garden from our room were great. We could step straight out of room into garden and there is a lovely table and chairs down next to river where we relaxed with a bottle of wine. I took my elderly parents and the family room was great for them as they did not need to go down any stairs. The staff made everyone feel welcome and could not do enough for you. The breakfast was superb. The stay was great value for money.

Review 55:It was a little cold (but we come from the tropics where it is 35 degrees celcius)

Review 56:It is clean and cozy, and the toilet was sparkling (literally). I especially loved the location as it provided gorgeous views of the river, and was a stones throw away from a historical site.

Review 57:Slightly discoloured mattress which appeared to be blood... Somewhatoffputting when accompanied by torn mattress cover. Exterior of propertyadjacent to the areas used by residents could benefit from a generaltidy up and paint.

Review 58:Great views from the room, excellent staff and super location.Undisturbed stay coupled with close proximity to many beautiful placesof interest within the village.

Review 59:The friendliness of all the staff, the food n the location of the Room, looking on to the lovely garden. Also grateful for their pets r welcome outlook which was very sincere

Review 60:The bed wasn't the most comfortable but this didn't detract from my stay.

Review 61:As a lone female staying at Capercaillie I was made to feel very welcome. I was told on arrival that I was being given a free upgrade, which definitely enhanced my stay. The staff were very helpful and offered to get up early to give me breakfast the day I departed.

Review 62:This Hotel was very comfortable and inviting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was delicious and the staff, both at breakfast and dinner were easy to chat to and very friendly. We had a great room downstairs.

Review 63:Staff so friendly and couldn't be more helpful, location stunning, facilities brilliant. Food was outstanding. Will definitely be back and recommend to everyone.

Review 64:The room is under the bar area, at the back. Right outside the sliding glass door is a big pile of window frames, a large blue recycling bin and a pile of rotted wood. No bedside table or reading lamp or radiator in the bathroom. The waste bin still had rubbish in it from a previous guest, including old sweaty socks. Rubbish also in the top drawer of the bedside drawer. The music that night from the bar above and the screams of laughter from people out on the balcony made the ceiling vibrate and sleep was impossible. This is backpacker budget accommodation at best but they are charging B and B prices.

Review 65:The food was good.

Review 66:The two night stay we had was excellent. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful. The room was great. Lovely garden area out the back. The breakfasts were good and we had a great choice from the evening meal menu.

Review 67:We were so tired we didnt look very far for food in the evening, went to the pub opposite but fully booked, food was basic (partner was very disappointed with how fresh his fish was) my pizza hit the spot but i was just so tired and had a headache so just wanted some warm food

Review 68:Staff were very friendly, location was idyllic, dinner was standard (the pub across the road was fully booked) the ghost decided to turn the tv on at about 3am which was a bit of a shock. Would stay here again though!!!

Review 69:One bed did not have a bedside light or cabinet. The head of the bed was right next to the bathroom door which made a lot of noise as did the beds, making sleep disturbed. Outside the windows could have been a lot more attractive.

Review 70:Position and staff

Review 71:The door locks to the rooms need to be changed as are a bit sticky. No hair dryer in room and lack of shelf space in bathroom - but these are all very minor points

Review 72:The staff are very friendly - great place to stay as has lovely rooms and a great wee pub and restaurant to use all in the same great location. Good food.

Review 73:Nothing.

Review 74:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was superb and overall it was great value. Evening meals are excellent as well.

Review 75:No external lights outside the access to our room and arriving back in the dark, we had to use the light from a mobile phone to find the keyhole

Review 76:B and B price with the convenience of having a restaurant serving evening meals. Food was very good, especially the breakfast.

Review 77:We stayed all week and can confirm very friendly and helpful staff. Beds comfortable in both rooms which were clean. Very satisfied having gone through most of the menu after a full days Munro walking. Value for money. Great setting and lovely fire to welcome you back.
