Reviews for Lowbyer Manor Country House
Review 1:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 2:I was made very welcome. Very comfortable bedroom and lounge. Delicious warm towels, a complimentary pot of tea with mince pie on arrival. I look forward to staying there again and eating the best scrambled eggs for breakfast ever!
Review 3:No unpleasant experiences at all. Loved every moment of our stay.
Review 4:The Hotel was well located, very clean and comfortable, the owners and staff were very friendly and informative, loved the history explained to me by the owner Laura she was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was freshly cooked and there was plenty of choices. would gladly stay at this hotel again and would 100% recommend it to all my family and friends.
Review 5:Shower cubicle was on the small side but adequate and clean.
Review 6:Good location just a few minutes walk from town. Friendly and helpful staff/owners. Very good breakfast and comfortable bed. We stayed two nights and ate in Alston in the evening returning for a brandy in the small bar.
Review 7:Welcoming friendly non-intrusive service from the tray of tea and of biscuits on arrival to departure. Good supply of maps and local natural history data. We intend to stay there again, if we can, next June.
Review 8:Having to leave
Review 9:en suite with a bath and shower even though it was a single room. friendly warm welcome fantastic breakfast with locally sourced ingredients Fantastic location with great views and walking all around
Review 10:Would just have liked a bit more space between the shower cubicle and the wash basin, but 18th century walls are very thick and they've done well to produce modern facilities in a very traditional setting.
Review 11:The comfort; the warmth of our greeting and being made to feel so at home, as if nothing was too much trouble; the gorgeous breakfast, to which our son was also made very welcome; the thoughtfulness of our hosts; the graciousness of the decor and furnishings.
Review 12:Faultless. My bikes were even locked up for me :-).
Review 13:I loved the location. Excellent pubs which do great food are a 2 minute walk away. The building is beautiful, with some cracking period features. Friendly, warm and welcoming service. Delightful breakfast with plenty of choice, local jams, fruit selection and a vegetarian option for a fried breakfast.
Review 14:We loved everything about our stay - the room, the friendliness of the hosts, the breakfast, the beautiful building. We will definitely be back and I've recommended it to everyone.
Review 15:The bathroom, whilst clean, was very small and the shower cramped and not too powerful. Too much condensation and consequent "blackening" of window frame. Access to electric wall sockets limited.
Review 16:The owners were very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was excellent. Good location.
Review 17:The water pressure was very poor in the shower. The lack of lighting ouside the property and on the main road leading into town. There was a bad drain small on the landing outside our room.
Review 18:The breakfast was very good quality and the food was plentiful. The bathroon was well stocked with toiletries, towels etc. The hosts were friendly and informative but not overbearing. The views from the bedroom window were nice and there was wildlife around (jackdaws and pheasants).
Review 19:The decor is a little dated and it would be convenient if the house could be exited by the front door as this would make the walk into town slightly shorter and marginally safer as it would lead immediately onto a footpath
Review 20:The owners were extremely obliging
Review 21:We can not control the weather (yet)
Review 22:Great service and old world charm a lovely ambience to the whole guest house in a remote town set among stunning countryside.
Review 23:Thin walls but, saying that, our sleep was not disturbed in any way.
Review 24:The staff were really nice and very helpful. We were welcomed with a large pot of tea and shortbread in the gorgeous lounge with a huge blazing fire. The room was lovely and there was tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits and a wide selection of toiletries in the bathroom. We were travelling with someone with special dietary needs and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will be back.

Review 29:Shower pressure was a bit low.
Review 30:Tea in the lounge on arrival. File of menus for local restaurants. Owner then booked our choice for us. Only a short walk into the village. Used a leaflet from reception to follow a guided walk round the village before dinner. Tasty breakfast.
Review 31:The reception, dining room and bar were below ground level and the lounge upstairs. Difficult for people with disabilities...too many stairs...

Review 87:Hospitality from owner, Laura, who told us all about this beautiful area. As travelers from the USA, this area and the Manor was a highlight of our trip to England.
Review 88:Nothing to dislike.
Review 89:A very clean and welcoming property. Richard and Laura were so helpful with the knowledge of the surrounding areas. The location was perfect and just on the edge of alston, near the steam train station. The breakfast was perfect and excellent value for money, the stay covered everything we wanted from our holiday. Go to the Angel hotel for great pub food
Review 90:Bathroom and shower was too small and awkward to move about in. Décor in the room could do with a bit of up dating, looked a bit tired in the rooms. Couldn't open the window as it was very stuffy during the night.
Review 91:The hotel had a country charm which suited the surroundings. Very quiet and relaxing hotel, with a slightly old fashioned feel to it. Stunning views.
Review 92:No complaints.
Review 93:An old coaching inn converted to a family run hotel. Very helpful and friendly atmosphere, reasonably situated near to the town with a selection of eating places. (There is a narrow guage railway in the town). Would make a good base for walkers.
Review 94:We absolutely loved staying at Lowbyer Manor house, excellent warm friendly welcome on every occasion we have stayed there. Good, clean rooms and excellent locally produced food..we look forward to our stay every year! The location is superb too with friendly locals.
Review 95:Lowbyer Manor. It is a lovely building; an old Manor House, ideally situated close to the town of Alston. Hosts very friendly. A very comfortable room. Would definitely stay there again if in the locale.
Review 96:My only reservation was the cost of breakfast; not expensive at £9, but a bit more than I wanted to pay. I understand it's very good breakfast through...
Review 97:This is a charming guest house run by a charming lady. There was very little not to like.
Review 98:From the time we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The owners went out of their way to help with every aspect of our stay. Even allowed us to use their refrigerator for some country yoghurt we bought at a Farm Shop. Loved the red squirrel. Easy walk into the cobblestones Main Street. Breakfast was great especially the local bacon. Could not speak highly enough of the establishment.

Review 101:A quaint country manor owned and run by Laura and Richard who went out of their way to make us feel at home. We felt more like family friends than guests. The breakfast choices and service was A1 and Laura always ensure it was cheerful start to the day. All and all a great 7 days.
Review 102:Couldn't understand why my iPhone wouldn't work here. Laura explained it was due to the thickness of the walls of this lovely old building. I coped with that and just stepped outside the door to use my mobile phone. It wasn't really a problem.
Review 103:Richard and Laura are very welcoming hosts and do all they can to make their guests comfortable and feel "at home"/.
Review 104:Bathroom was rather small and we had difficulty getting the shower to the correct temperature.
Review 105:The welcome that we received and attention to detail. Generally it was very comfortable and quiet with a good view.
Review 106:Second time we have stayed here, owner very understanding when I was a little late on parade. Excellent breakfast, there is nothing to better Lowbyer in Alston.
Review 107:Limited choice of places to eat nearby - no dinner in hotel. Only ashower in our room - we like a bath.
Review 108:Quaint town in the middle of nowhere. Interesting old building. Veryhelpful and friendly owners. Good sausages from village butcher. Cosycomfortable guesthouse.
Review 109:The showers are set at a very low pressure but this is a 'green hotel' so possibly this is to save energy and water.
Review 110:The owners are particularly helpful and friendly and provided pre stay advice re local restaurants sending sample menus.
Review 111:Pressure/water flow from shower was a bit lacking - might be better on lower floors.
Review 112:Red squirrels in the garden! Lovely old house which has been well adapted as a country hotel. Warm welcome, thoughtful service, hearty and tasty breakfast. Slept well in a quiet room with a comfortable bed. Good value for money. Don't book here if you are expecting a 'boutique hotel' experience - this is traditional and homely.
