Reviews for Grand Hotel de l'Opera

Review 1:On ringing some days before our visit to confirm our booking I asked the receptionist to book us Christmas lunch in the restaurant Les Jardins de l'Opera. She said she would. Hearing nothing further we assumed all was well. When we arrived we discovered that the restaurant was closed over the Christmas period and we had to find a table elsewhere.

Review 2:I enjoyed the Hammam on two mornings.

Review 3:The carpets could use a more profound cleaning.

Review 4:Charming hotel. The name 'Grand Hotel' is absolutely appropriate. Perfect location in the middle of the historical centre of Toulouse, yet very calm.

Review 5:The heater was broken in my room and I was very cold at night, I evenhad to buy a hot water bottle

Review 6:The location and the staff were fantastic. I could fault anythingabout them

Review 7:The entrances to the hotel, up a quaint alley off the side of the square, have steps and a hard-to-negotiate entry. The assistance of a porter, who was not on duty when I arrived, is desirable.

Review 8:Location, of course, just off the Place du Capitole, where you will sit and sip a drink and watch the locals take their evening stroll. Service is good. The restaurants and bar top notch though a little expensive. Plenty of both very close by in the square and connecting streets.

Review 9:Room bit old, dark ( all red) and dusty. (In Dutch vergane glorie). Only 2 small windows so no natural light. Difficult to find especially in weekend when there are a lot of people in the center. At 7pm they called us to cancel our dinner reservation that THEY made for us at 4pm.! That was really unbelievable. We were happy that we only stayed for 1 night!

Review 10:Good bed. Breakfast was oke.

Review 11:Bath a little tall for older people to climb into

Review 12:The decor and ambience was wonderful a old fashioned hotel experience with porters, waiters etc, rotating door entrance. Bistro a gourmet delight with full range of French classics

Review 13:Clean but a bit dated and worn. Reception not very helpful. Breakfast very average for 19 euros. Dinner okay but not outstanding. Very expensive drinks.

Review 14:Great location for centre of Toulouse. Comfortable bed.

Review 15:A huge drawing of woman is hanged on the bed sided wall and felt not comfortable at all, it is also reflected at mirror in front of the bed , creepy!!

Review 16:Minor disappointment that we did not have a room with a view of the square. However, as we were given an excellent deal this was understandable.

Review 17:Excellent position from which to explore Toulouse easily and return to base during the daytime. The staff were most courteous and cheerful. The location and booking arrangements, enabled us to eat breakfast on the square in the fresh air and sun.Rooms were clean and pleasant.

Review 18:Our room was opposite the restaurant which was being renovated, and one morning at 2.30am someone was moving things into a van. And one morning they were chipping away plaster from the wall - maybe around 8am, but we had been trying to sleep in.

Review 19:The hotel room was very comfortable - thick towells, lovely decor, large rooms and a beautiful atmosphere.

Review 20:Location very difficult to get to through a pedestrian precinct with very bad signposting. If you are driving yourself you may want to reconsider. Had to leave early in the morning and combination of local drunks, parking garage that was closed and filthy conditions made for bad end of stay. Hotel passageway was almost innaceesible if a car was being valeted.

Review 21:Staff was VERY helpful

Review 22:Nothing to complain about

Review 23:We were upgraded which was fantastic. Our room was so lovely and the sweets on the bed were an extra touch I appreciated. The staff were so helpful.

Review 24:Nothing.

Review 25:Perfect city centre location right on the Place du Capitole. Extremely helpful staff. Good old fashioned warm and inviting hotel unlike many of its "plastic" counterparts.

Review 26:Nothing other than the parking was quite expensive.

Review 27:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent. The decor was eccentric and opulent and of another world and time. The breakfasts were excellent and a very wide choice. The bed was the most comfortable I have slept on away from home.

Review 28:A bit expensive on the parking, and breakfast. Go out for breakfast - there's lots of choice.

Review 29:Fantastic city centre position. Helpful friendly staff. Good room and lovely bathroom, all spotless.

Review 30:Quality, attentiveness and friendliness of staff. Hotel has class, history and charm. Facilities of a high standard throughout. Attentiveness to detail, including bottle of wine on arrival and chocolates on bed.

Review 31:As a costumer I am always looking for good prices so even if this one is a 4 stars hotel it is always great if they can do it cheaper above all for the booking customers

Review 32:The location of the Hotel is just fantastic, in the centre of the town and also the staff where always very helpful. Great choice we did.

Review 33:Hair dryer not working. Shower ran hot and cold, not constant temp. Only 2 coffees each per 24hr - asked for more but didn't get any.

Review 34:Good location, lots of restaurants and bars close by.

Review 35:The staff are always very helpful and friendly, the hotel's brasserie is superb, and you are right on the beating heart of Toulouse in the Capitole square

Review 36:Love this place. Right on the Capitole it is as central as one can get. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful with perfect English if needed. This is all 'old world' but everything has been kept in great shape and with all the mod cons. It was surprisingly affordable.

Review 37:We were just really unlucky with the weather. To compensate, they had great restaurants.

Review 38:Excellent location right on the Place du Capitole. Excellent staff with good English spoken, not just the reception staff but concierge and bar staff. Lovely sumptuous decor and with good restaurants, its own brasserie and the Michelin starred Les Jardins de l'Opera.

Review 39:The breakfast was extortionately expensive (19 Eur) for a very limited offering. The only hot foods were some congealed scrambled eggs and a few sausages which had obviously been sitting there for a while.

Review 40:The suite (Lulli) was well appointed although not as good as suites in other similar classed hotels.

Review 41:Breakfast is good but offers room for improvement. Especially classics like a Croissant should by really typical French and rather excellent than average.

Review 42:Classical and charming hotel style. Nice staff.

Review 43:Parking in the square was not easy to find on foot - entrances hidden between restaurant tables. Might be hot in the summer with no ac.

Review 44:Public spaces were very well done

Review 45:for a 500Euro room one would expect a little more. the rooms were dark at 6 in the morning workers got to it and sleep not possible sauna and spa are the worst I have been to so far the entrance was being remodeled to be very nice but it realy wasn't a pleasent sight and prices should have been ajusted

Review 46:the room were comfortable

Review 47:I didn't like that room wasn't fresh, it need decoration, refreshed I, new paint work should be done, curtains should be changed, it was awful to have day curtains with the hall

Review 48:Very helpful staff, not comfortable bed, curtains was ripped( and it is for 200 euro per night), breakfast was very good, need more attention to details like kettle in room, complimentary 2 bottle of water for 2 guests, 2 robes for 2 people- not just one ) but in total it was good stay.

Review 49:Very noisy stairs (old wooden stairs).

Review 50:Reminder of old times elegance. Superb location right at the Place du Capitole, still undisturbed from the street.

Review 51:No airport transport and the taxi rather expensive. TINY bath - better to have a large shower stall . Back bedrooms have NO view and are claustrophobic.

Review 52:The GOOD staff, GREAT Brasserie in the courtyard- the best food I had in France in 8 weeks. Good location to shops and sight-seeing.

Review 53:The hotel was old so the stairway was very noisy. Wooden with carpeted treads.

Review 54:Great location in the heart of Toulouse. Many bars and restaurants within a short walk. Very friendly staff (except for the bartender one evening).

Review 55:Unfortunately parking was terrible for vehicle over 2m, we ended up going to a cheap hotel near the airport where we paid for a room which included free parking and got a taxi back to our hotel in the centre

Review 56:Location was perfect

Review 57:The lift is inconveniently small, but that's about it.

Review 58:Different, fun décor in the room. Delightful staff. Great location fronting the capitol and close to the metro.

Review 59:Our room was a deluxe double. It was beautifully outfitted with every thing a guest would need. Good closet space, drawers, excellent bath, desk for work space, comfortable chairs and bed, useful lighting. Besides all that it was beautiful. Our stay at the hotel came at the end of our trip and gave us a good send off for the joys of traveling in Europe and the beauty of the city of Toulouse - one of the best cities we have been in.

Review 60:Wonky shower in our room but didn't matter much as the rest of the room was superb

Review 61:Superb location, so near the Place Capitole - the adjacent Brasserie has a wonderful selection of menus. Staff at the hotel were very attentive. Our room was fabulous - couldn't believe it was so quite while being in the center of Toulouse.

Review 62:Parking facilities, if you have a car over 2m tall you can't use the underground car park so you have to park about a 10-minute walk away.

Review 63:Great staff, especially Sri Despite being on first floor and right on the square, the triple glazing did the job and we had no trouble sleeping.

Review 64:Our room (201) was a little noisy at times as the room overlooked the hotel's outside restaurants.

Review 65:Location was excellent, very central with a number of retail shops and some amazing sites (such as a former Monastery now Museum) just a short walk away. The staff were very helpful and professional. Our room was very spacious and comfortable.

Review 66:Great room, they kindly upgraded us. Room was quiet , reception staff were happy & helpful even though we didn't speak French . Close to many restaurants & cafes (walking distance) happy to recommend this hotel. I loved the bathroom especially with the makeup mirror!

Review 67:Very difficult to navigate your way around with out a gps. Lots ofstreets one way and blocked off, esp at night

Review 68:Beautiful, grand old hotel with clean modern facilities. Right in centerof downtown with great shopping close by. Excellent city heart marketstwo blocks away. Amazing patisseries.

Review 69:Arriving by car. Not the hotel's fault that driving in Toulouse is a bit of a nightmare but more could be done in advance to explain what you have to do to get there by car. Please do not use SatNav to try to get to this hotel!

Review 70:Central location, reception staff very friendly and helpful. Nice building

Review 71:The fact that there was no tea or coffee supplied with the kettle. Breakfast seemed expensive so we ate in one of the numerous cafes nearby.

Review 72:We arrived early so although we were unable to check in we left or luggage to find it had been taken to our rooms when we did check in later. The hotel décor is slightly OTT but extremely luxurious. Gold & blue velvet in the reception and red velvet in the bedrooms. There were no facilities for making tea & coffee so we asked for a kettle which was supplied, but were told we couldn't have any tea or coffee! Luckily we had some of our own. We also had to ask for cups! Lovely comfortable bed in a quiet room at the side of the hotel. This meant there was no view but this was not an issue. The receptionist and most of the other staff were lovely. One of the porters was a bit abrupt, but maybe he was just having a bad day. The hotel is ideally situated on the Place du Capitol. Get the metro from the train station or bus from the airport.

Review 73:Restaurant on street adjacent to hotel entrance carries the same name as the hotel but not part of the hotel. Food quality here was not as good as other places we have stopped at in France. We thought that it was hotels!!

Review 74:Made very welcome and car parked for us after unloading cases. Collected in the morning for us too.

Review 75:Small "standard" room with no armchair and no view. Expensive, though basic, breakfast. Receptionist giving priority to phone caller whilst ignoring guest at counter. Long walk with luggage from hard-to-find underground car park. TV not working.

Review 76:Central location. Plush décor throughout. Nice bathroom.

Review 77:Everything was perfect, really. Perhaps the fact that the maid forgot to lock the door after cleaning (the blocked lock prevented the door to close automatically)?

Review 78:Decor, atmosphere, bar, friendly staff, great location, beautiful room.

Review 79:What's not to like.

Review 80:We were given an efficient welcome, despite arriving at the same time as a busload of tourists. The room was furnished in an extravagant Belle Epoque style, which was tempered by the Picasso lithographs on the wall. The bed was super comfortable and the Brasserie had an excellent vegetable platter for my vegetarian wife - 8 different vegetables cooked perfectly.

Review 81:Location on Place de la Capitole was excellent. Took previous guests' advice and did not attempt to bring car into city. Instead we dropped off rental car at airport (this was last day of our trip) and took taxis in and out of city. This cost a bit more, but we figured it was worth skipping the aggravation. Taking the taxi into the city confirmed the wisdom of our choice!

Review 82:Taxi unable to drive up to front reception but a porter avail to take bags up lane; we were travelling away from home for 6 months

Review 83:Belle epoch ambience, smoking balcony, touch of class, so handy to restaurants and metro, excellent long term staff always a good sign.

Review 84:Gaining access to the hotel by car. A total nightmare! Do NOT take a car as you will spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find a way in. Narrow roads, most of which are pedestrianized.

Review 85:The opulence of the hotel, themed with opera memorabilia. Good, varied breakfast. We did not use the brasserie or main restaurant preferring to eat in the Place du Capitole square.

Review 86:Bill was confusing, and watch out for breakfast charges showing up on the bill (if you didn't have breakfast).

Review 87:Location, location, location! Staff was very friendly & helpful.

Review 88:A small criticism only...It would have been nice to have one more than one coffee each in our room. No tea pour les anglais!

Review 89:Helpful Friendly staff. Very central. Quirky rooms.

Review 90:Nothing to not like - we are quite demanding, but this place absolutely ticked all the boxes!!

Review 91:Wonderful location, beautiful hotel and room, fantastic staff, really made our stay in Toulouse that bit more special

Review 92:Staff were just OK. Not horrible and only moderately knowledgeable or helpful. Needs more space

Review 93:Very central location and attractive lobby/restaurant/bar.

Review 94:situation centrale exceptionnelle

Review 96:All of it

Review 102:Lovely decor and colour scheme

Review 103:A little bit run down, but OK.

Review 104:Very central

Review 105:Great quite locations and room

Review 106:Old, dark, low ceilings, expensive

Review 107:Location

Review 108:Great location, easy walking distance to main tourist areas

Review 109:Walls were thin, could hear voices next door

Review 110:Location, decor , staff

Review 111:Impossible to drive to with a camper

Review 112:Excellent location

Review 113:Oppressive colours of room. Tiny bath. No safe deposit box, though denied by receptionist! Lack of ambience.

Review 114:Difficult access by car Step into deep narrow bath tub to access shower Poorly signed entrance at street level

Review 115:Helpful front desk staff

Review 116:everything

Review 122:Location and peaceful surroundings with old world feel.

Review 123:Location and staff

Review 124:Staff were especially helpful and the location simply brilliant as we had a room that faced the Capitol square.

Review 125:Helpful staff. Great location. Great restaurants on premises. Classy public spaces. Good room. Value pricing.

Review 126:No lift to the bedroom

Review 127:very nice ambience

Review 128:frosty reception on arrival. no lift to our room (perhaps reserved for bookings at reduced price through agencies)

Review 129:comfortable well-appointed room
