This family-run, 5-bedroom traditional pub overlooks the River South Tyne. It has traditional cider and cask ales, homemade bar meals and welcoming, friendly staff.
Alston is the highest market town in England and is 18 miles from the M6 and the Lake District. The Cumberland Hotel is an ideal stopping-off point on the C2C cycle route and Pennine Way.
Some bedrooms have beautiful views with a backdrop of the North Pennines.
There is secure storage for bicycles and dogs, as well as a beer garden and a patio. There are opportunities to walk, hike, cycle and play golf in the local area. The South Tynedale Railway is not far.

Review 7:Room was great and the food at dinner and breakfast was excellent, the staff made me feel welcome. I will stay again when I visit again. A great selection of real ale and for me the malt of the moment was a great idea. If you forget your glasses they will lend you a pair, what fantastic service.

Review 10:It was a good centre to radiate from ie down to The Wall or to Penrith or to Carlisle or lastly down to Teesdale. Food was excellent apart from no oatmeal in the haggis..

Review 11:We love this pub. Great staff (special mention to Deborah who is professional, friendly and polite). Very dog friendly. Fabulous "proper" food, great location for walks from the door. Can't fault it, we will return.

Review 12:Stayed here after cycling through wind, rain and hail as part of the coast to coast. What I needed was a hot shower, comfy bed and good food which is exactly what I got. Couldn't fault it x

Review 13:Alston is a lovely part of the world, and a great place to stop off for the night. The staff at The Cumberland Inn were so friendly, and couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. Gorgeous views, and a delicious breakfast that really set us up for the day.

Review 14:We understand the owner is considering a refurbishment which would be a great step forward. We were not that lucky with the weather and double glazing would have made a huge difference.

Review 15:Upon arrival we coincided with a Leek show, what fun and everyone was so friendly. The staff were always so helpful and welcoming, we ate in twice and the food was hearty and served quickly. Would recommend anyone to stay there.

Once you have recovered from the Majestic views from the bar window your left woundering could it get any better, then your food arrives and the answer is yes! Sublime menu only bettered by the taste of every morsal of food you eat.I should be giving this place bad reviews then i could keep this bolt hole all to myself. Mr Michellin Star must of forgotten to rate this place, I havent top marks for location,accommodation and god must of blessed all that work in her.
