Reviews for Nent Hall Country House Hotel
Review 1:The cooked breakfast on the second day,Must have changed the chef!!!!!!!!!!!.
Review 2:The Staff were impeccable, very polite, and helpful, warm and welcoming. We will return again at some point in the future For the Four Poster.Knockout.
Review 3:The stay was quite expensive for a young couple. But the stay was really wonderful.
Review 4:The staff were very friendly and helpful. I'm vegan and the staff were happy to provide multiple meal options in the bar area to meet my dietary requirements.
Review 5:Booking a 4-poster room, but not getting the better of the two rooms
Review 6:It was like coming home to an old friend - we knew the hotel and loved the area. A great bar, good selection of food, and comfortable rooms
Review 7:The decor is a little dated. The en suite also needs bringing up to date. However everything was really clean.
Review 8:Good location for the Dales and the Lakes. Staff very welcoming.
Review 9:We had a wonderful stay at Nent County Hall. The staff were lovely they even let us eat early in the restaurant because we needed to leave before the opening time. The breakfast was delicious, there was lots of choice and the staff couldn't help you enough. I would definitely go back there.
Review 10:Fantastic place awesome. Staff were all fantastic and could not do enough for you. They were brilliant as I have an allergy to Gluten and made all Gluten free meals for me. Rooms are gorgeous and the views stunning. Great relaxing in the bar in front of the open fire. Will always now be going every year.
Review 11:Loved the chairs in the pub in front of fireplace, breakfast was very good. We were driving in the fog to get to house and came around the bend. Saw the lit up country house and was instantly relived.
Review 12:What a wonderful stay, ended up staying two nights as was having such a lovely time. Naomi made us feel really welcome.food was great! Would definitely stay here again.
Review 13:The hotel itself is a little drab in places and could do with some updating and tlc, even just a lick of paint. The bar area was far too hot to be able to sit and eat so we had to request to sit in the lounge. Ordered some chicken goujons which arrived uncooked and had to be sent back. We had the four poster suite which was a bit of an exaggeration as the room was quite small. As for the bed....It had been repaired using mdf which left it so noisy. It squeeked loudly just sitting on it.
Review 14:The location of the hotel is beautiful.
Review 15:If you want strong wifi in your bedroom, you will be disappointed. Wifi is limited to to main reception rooms.
Review 16:Lovely quiet location alongside a country road, but no road noise inside hotel. Terrific room size (room 19), comfortable 4-poster bed and large en suite. Large flat screen TV in room.Food was reasonably priced pub grub and of a reasonable standard without being anything special.
Review 17:The bedroom was far too small to accommodate the large four poster bed - dark furnishings made the room oppressive - could do with refurbishment -
Review 18:Very friendly staff - excellent food - very cosy bar area - general surroundings in-keeping with the age of the building - lovely lounge and dinining areas
Review 19:Never had bad experience .only one problem had to send burger back was well undercooked.
Review 20:Surroundings excellent . Staff very at tentative would recommend stay.
Review 21:The television in our room did not work and the WiFi only worked in the lounge and bar areas.
Review 22:The staff where very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable, warm and plenty of room.
Review 23:Having to leave
Review 24:EVERYTHING. A lovely place to stay. It oozes charm and character and is a lovely spot for a retreat for almost any reason. Room, food and service all top class. The girls are all beautiful. The prices are highly competitive. Ignore the nitpickers with their comments about "tired" and needing a lick of paint, etc. They're the ones who would find fault if they stayed in the Grosvenor in London or the Ritz in Paris. I wish Nent Hall and all associated with it every success.
Review 25:On leaving they tried to charge £10 extra for our dog. We have stayed here twice before no charge. In the small print it says Pets may incur charges, but receptionist said mandatory. Not Happy! Cancelled further visit.
Review 26:We have stayed here before without problem
Review 27:We booked to stay in room with 4 poster bed, it was very tiny. Room had a big damp patch in ceiling, the walls had dirty stains and the carpet was badly stained. When I looked under the bed it had dog chews and debris from previous visitors.Tvisitors.The bathroom was in need of repair. All in all a run down establishment as the lounge area sofas were dirty.
Review 28:Staff very friendly
Review 29:Room 26 bed - bit of a mission to get onto it with my little legs and it creaked very loudly every time one of us moved.
Review 30:The general lived in feel of the place was strangely comforting. The staff are outstanding and Adele is as mad as a ship's cat.
Review 31:Nothing of significance.
Review 32:The hotel is located in a fairly isolated and very beautiful part of the Pennines. It was a vry old double story building with the interior evoking hunting lodge. Very tasteful and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The included breakfast inluded cereals juice yoghurt etc as well as individually cooked requests of high quality. Very peaceful feel.Would suut a couple for a longer stay rather than overnight.
Review 33:The cooked breakfast was very poor the sausage was very thin and the black pudding like rock . however the rest of the food and our evening meal was superb.
Review 34:The male receptionists really made our stay so special
Review 35:nothing
Review 36:The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The food was great and it's in a great place in the countryside. We walked along the river into the town of Alston on the Saturday.
Review 37:Part of the property needs updating. On arrival there was a shortage of staff. There was no wifi in our room. We were not offered any dessert or the free coffee at our last meal.
Review 38:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was ideal four touring the area.
Review 39:The hotel was very old fashioned, the room was pokey, dusty and smelt funny. Really did not enjoy my stay and couldnt wait to leave. There is no way this Hotel should be 4 star!!!
Review 40:Staff were friendly
Review 41:Beautiful room, very clean and quiet, stuff are helpful and very friendly. Great food in the hotel restaurant, very nice rural setting. Great value for money.
Review 42:This is a very nice hotel not far from the Hadrian's Wall area. We were very pleased with the hotel and staff as well as meals. Our room was upgraded to a superior accommodation. The hotel has excellent food and the dining room staff were outstanding.
Review 43:The hotel is beautiful. Lovely room and very comfortable. Breakfast was great and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Superb value for money, will definitely be returning in the future.
Review 44:Nent Hall is in the middle of the moor so pretty isolated and there are no paths on the road outside so difficult to walk. The Hotel is in need of some TLC as it felt rather 'jaded' and the grounds needed some serious attention - it could be really special! We had to wait over an hour for our bar meal.
Review 45:The property was full of character and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Comfortable bed with clean white sheets and towels. The deal we had was excellent value for money especially as we were given the suite with its own 'tower'! Overall a pleasant experience with a good breakfast.
Review 46:Rooms in need of refurbishment.Very small TV for the size of the room.Squeaky bed,new kettle needed due to lime scale, dirty carpet.....we did inform receptionist on our departure of the above.
Review 47:Friendly attentive staff.Keen to please the customer.
Review 48:had problems with wifi in room had to use it in the lounge, bathroom a bit dated needs a refurb
Review 49:the room was lovely, the 4 poster bed was really comfy, we had a garden view which was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent, restaurant meals in the evening were gorgeous!
Review 50:Rooms were a bit tired, mark on carpet as we walked into room wasn't a great first impression. Impossible to get wifi connection unless in the foyer, couldn't get wifi in the room. Waited a long time for breakfast. Microwaved scrambled eggs! A first for me and a last, tasted hideous.
Review 51:Lovely location, receptionist and manager very welcoming and accommodating. Fantastic evening meal. Comfortable room, loved the antique decor. Snug after dinner was lovely, really relaxing and welcoming.
Review 52:An old building always has a few spiders!
Review 53:Lovely part of the world. have been inspired to come back next year and explore further. Pity we could only stay 1 night. Very friendly and attentive staff.
Review 54:It was our 1st wedding anniversary and when we arrived we were congratulated by the staff and had a complimentary room upgrade. The evening meal was nice and they even went to the effort of decorating the table for us! Thank you for making our weekend extra special
Review 55:They could do with a tidy up in the garden, cur the grass etc, lovely place but a little bit neglected.
Review 56:This place is a bit like stepping back in time, quaint, great friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. A little dated but full of character.
Review 57:The bathroom wasn't well maintAined and smelly. Garden was also not looked after. Not many vegetarian options for dinner.
Review 58:Facilities where very good. Breakfast was very diverse. There was more then enough parking space.
Review 59:It is very dated and needs some money investing on the interior, the whole of the hotel smelt of grease morning and night from the kitchens, I can only presume the extraction system is inadequate, our clothes smelt of it when we got home, cobwebs all over the place and the mirror on the wall in the stairs is in need of a deep clean, it's such a shame that the inside has not been updated and modernised,
Review 60:The staff were excellent, the size off our room and the bed was so comfy
Review 61:pub food was ordinary and slightly pricey but was nicely presented
Review 62:room was very clean everything you needed was supplied only minor was décor slightly dated
Review 63:Nothing.
Review 64:The hotel itself was very nice, and is set in a beautiful location. It was only a brief visit, just the one night, but the staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The food in the bar was also very good and reasonably priced for very large portions.
Review 65:If other costumers would return the halls DVD collection then others could enjoy a nice relaxing night in... Nothing to report on the hotels part.
Review 66:The location was really nice very peaceful, we went for a short mini break and it was well worth it! The staff were very helpful and friendly which is what everyone wants, Food was ... Spot on i had the chefs special pie chicken, bacon and leek and i wanted seconds. We would happly stay at nenthall again And we highly recommend the drive through the mountains what a thrill!
Review 67:We had a twin room which was large and comfortable but the light fittings were broken above the beds and the curtains refused to close! The curtains were fixed quickly but a little tlc on a gorgeous house is needed to make it excellent.
Review 68:The staff were absolutely lovely, coffee and breakfast hit the spot perfectly and a great chef providing a large varied selection of really good food in the bar.
Review 69:I liked everything about the hotel the staff where very helpful and nothing was to much trouble the service in the restaurant was very good and also the food I would recommend thid hotel to my friends and will be visiting again
Review 70:not much i didn't like. The whole area isn't blessed with fibre-optic braod band so wi fi was a no go. But personally I wouldn't expect that from such a remote area and I wouldn't go all that way out into the sticks just to gawp at the internet!
Review 71:friendly welcoming staff, the most comfortable hotel bed i have ever slept on and an excellent breakfast. I didn't have a lunch or evening meal there but saw others dining and the food looked and smelled very good.
Review 72:No hairdryer (even though there should have been). A problem with flies when windows opened, as rooms very hot, but we were not told of this! Housekeeping did not use fly spray as we requested.
Review 73:Four poster bed. Very large flat screen TV
Review 74:dirty and dusty bathroom floor dirty paintwork in bathroom and bedroom in need of decoration
Review 75:happy friendly staff shame it is an old hotel needs updated
Review 76:Service was a little slow and inexpert, but generally very willing. The choice on the Restaurant Menu was fairly limited.
Review 77:The bedroom/sitting room/ bathroom/dressing room was superb.
Review 78:Poor wifi, but this is due to location I feel. Really dislike the carpet on one of bathroom floors and our bathroom whilst not carpeted was a little worn
Review 79:Very quiet location, received upgrade to small suite for mysel and my husband most welcome . Our girls had a twin room, this was fairly small but they were able to sit in our lounge room in evenings.
Review 80:Nothing
Review 81:Stayed here night of 24th June, booked a Four Poster Room, but were given The Tower Suite upon arrival.Absolutely fantastic Suite, with roll top bath, separate bathroom/shower,dressing room and one very long sitting room/lounge.2 TV and all rooms filled with period furniture and the bedroom has the most grandest bed you will ever sleep in, with the roll top bath next to it in the bay window. Pure luxury from start to finish, with great food served in the attached pub. Breakfast was served in the period restaurant, and is great, very hot with local produce. The grounds are extensive. Great staff, especially the receptionist who also served us breakfast on a morning. She really works hard to ensure your stay is great and she makes a real difference as do all the staff we met. Will definitely be going back to stay in the Tower Suite asap
Review 82:The tinned fruit, and the very mucky hp sauce bottles at breakfast.
Review 83:Had a really lovely evening at Nent Hall, warm welcome from Naomi, enjoyed the upgrade room, nice towels and comfortable bed, food in the pub very good, nice presentation fresh quality salad and appreciated the hand cut delicious chips.
Review 84:Dirty carpets, run down room. When I got there they couldn't find my reservation and didn't offer any help with my luggage
Review 85:I liked the location best and the ground floor room
Review 86:Interesting building. Much cosier than th elarge chains and prices were comparable. Personal touches and very helpful staff who advised a lovely walk in local area, which we did and enjoyed immensely. Breakfast was delicious in a lovely room overlooking garden.
Review 87:First class presentation throughout, efficient and friendly staff ! Very well managed, and great breakfasts, and pub meals. Location was very quiet and pretty, and Alston not far away.
Review 88:The service was particularly welcoming and helpful. The bed rooms are very interesting, and the lounge was wonderfully comfortable after a long days cycling. Great stop for the Coast-to Coast cycle route.
Review 89:The dust, tiredness of the décor and furnishings, the unkempt garden.Sadly this hotel does not live up to the attractive pictures on thewebsite nor the 4 diamonds aa displayed by the entrance. Must refer toprevious owners of the hotel. The public areas are so dirty - the brassand copper have never seen brasso. So very disappointing. Bedroom tvcould be described as antique and had a life of its own as did theradio. We will not be returning nor recommending.
Review 90:The location and beautiful old building. The staff service was good.Breakfast was faultless and if only paying Groupon of £20 pp B&Bthen I guess it is good value.
Review 91:The greeting on arrival and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Room (four poster) was great. Food was fantastic. Not booked yet but will be going back
Review 92:Totally relaxing 4 day break over Easter. My two boys loved the freedom of the garden. The staff made them very welcome and the kitchen accommodated their food requirements.
Review 93:There was no remote control for the flat screen TV
Review 94:The four poster bed was very comfortable, the decor of the hotel was charming and in keeping with the house style, the staff were friendly and professional, the vegetarian breakfast was generous and well presented
Review 95:Lovely little hotel in a great location just needed a little TLC. Food in the attached pub was good, staff welcoming and friendly. Has its own car park.
Review 96:The bar was a bit geared up for meals only; only dining tables and chairs........ not best for just sitting to talk to friends with a drink (and no dartboard). The draught beer ran out - only two taps; could have a had a larger selection. Only tinned fruit for breakfast and could have had more local produce (such as yoghurts).
Review 97:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Plenty of car parking space.
Review 98:It''s been said before that room 14 bathroom needs a make over and it's true. Tv reception needs sorting out. A post code that takes you to Nent Hall rather than 3 1/2 mile away in Alston.
Review 99:Four poster bedroom was very nice. Evening bar meals were we'll presented and reasonably priced. The staff were very pleasant and attentitive.
Review 100:The TV didn't work in the first room we were in so they moved us. The second room had a broken toilet seat, a dripping shower and the bed felt like it was six foot off the floor.
Review 101:more changes and selection on the specials menu in the bar. would be nice not to have same menu each night
Review 102:fabulous location great food friendly helpful staff. charming comfortable old house. wonderful area for walking
Review 103:The hotel could be fantastic but needs serious updating. The carpets were stained and the bathroom cold tap shuddered loudly when turned on - very thin walls. The toilet seat was completely cracked and there were no remote controls for the tv.
Review 104:Location good - food good although bill showed food to be more expensive than shown on the actual menu. Didn't notice until we had left and there didn't appear to be any explanation for the additional charge
Review 105:Vegetarian meal the most disgusting plate of food I have ever tasted. Vegetarian Wellington ?... translates as half a burned pastie with no filling, covered in beef gravy!!! Husband had no evening meal (2 dishes off and he doesn't do pork or smoked fish - nothing else offered). He took dog for a walk while I painfully shovelled mine into my mouth to quell hunger pangs. Wouldn't eat there again.
Review 106:Location good, staff approachable and friendly, room nicely situated in annexe and has dog-friendly sitting room with direct access outside, very practical. Ideal doggy-stay venue but no immediate walks leading to or from property, lovely garden for dog space.
Review 107:Breakfast was ok - we were asked about our egg preference but they did not deliver ! Don't ask if you cannot deliver .....
Review 108:Our Reception at the hotel and their kind acknowledgement of our anniversary
Review 109:Quiet location away from the bleak town of Alston . Friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Meals in attached pub. Integral Restaurant open Friday and Saturday.
Review 110:The bar offers good basic food and drink but the room was out of character with the rest of the building.
Review 111:Friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi. Beautiful location.
Review 112:The hotel was really good in a lovely location. The staff were all excellent and gave you a lovely welcome. The food was very good too with a lovely log fire in the bar. We would definitely go back if we are in the area again.
Review 113:Only two little problems to mention. One was that the tv was very old and getting a picture was impossible.Surely the time has come to replace these old sets with something newer. Also, shower in our bathroom was a problem as after use it continued to drip constantly.
Review 114:We enjoyed four nights in this lovely, relaxing hotel . Our visit was during an extremely wintry spell and we were always really warm and comfortable and all the different seating areas for relaxing in were great, especially by the open fire in the bar. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we would happily come back to this hotel when next we are in this area.
Review 115:One of our meals at dinner was wrong so resulted in my partner waiting while we all ate, but mistakes happen. Great Hotel for family get away with dog.
Review 116:Everything!!! the staff at the hotel could not do enough it was my daughters 30th birthday and they had decorated all her room how thoughtful
Review 117:Bathroom needs updating. Although clean, wallpaper peeling off and plastic shower curtain smelt which made the whole room smell. More shampoo (was no conditioner), shower gel and cotton wool would have been appreciated.
Review 118:Position, comfort, staff, room, views, character.
Review 119:We couldn't stay for longer because it was full :( But we will be back !!
Review 120:The Staff are like family, attentive and friendly and nothing is too much to ask, they are simply brilliant. Great warm atmosphere, the food is really good and excellent value for money. Brilliant location, we just keep going back. I have been there 2 times now and loved every minute of my stay.
Review 121:Only one taxi to the village 2.5miles £7.00 each way....rip off only 3 pubs in the village of which one has a few tables in a back room that act as an Indian resturant
Review 122:Four poster bed was great and Pamela who runs the place was exceptional
Review 123:Couldnt understand waiter breakfast was very minimal and the two course valentines lunch was not worth anywhere near the 25.00 for two courses. Very disapointing visit
Review 124:Clean and presentable.nice surroundings
Review 125:Great welcome on arrival and were shown to our room - always a nice touch. Good size double bedroom with added attraction of a 4 poster bed! Great TV reception was a surprise given location. Good breakfast served in the airy restaurant area with great views of the gardens
Review 126:We had to be very careful outside because of the ice and snow etc..
Review 127:We upgraded to a suite on arrival. The snow scenes were beautiful and all was peaceful. This was a repeat visit and we shall probably make another. The chef did well for us.
Review 128:Short breaks in the future will struggle I fear to live up to this experience! I have always wanted to spent Christmas in a small hotel sitting by a real fire with the snow outside! It wasn't Christmas but I can't imagine ever having a small country hotel all to myself ever again, I think it is definitely a one off experience!
Review 129:The very friendly helpful but professional staff who went above and beyond the call of duty! We arrived during a blizzard, and the Head of House Pamela looked after us on our first night. That night there was a foot of snow, and the chef and Pamela couldn't get in, in the morning, however Naomi (who lives near and used to be Head of House) walked over from her home and looked after us all day. The chef drove into work in really bad conditions and looked after us. We had a fabulous evening meal in front of a real fire on our own as we had the hotel to ourselves! We will definitely be back! The food was excellent the chef has only been there for a couple of weeks and he is revamping the menu! We had garlic and chilli king prawns to start and then I had rump steak and my Husband had lamb!
Review 130:We had no heating in our room in early January! We alerted the staff within 10 mins of our arrival (5.30pm, Fri) that the heating wasn't on. We were told it would take a while to heat up. An hour later it still hadn't. We were then told the boiler was broken and might be fixed the next day or it might be Monday (after we left). We were given an electric heater (ok if you huddled over it, but not to heat an entire suite). We asked to be moved to another room but were told the other rooms would be the same. So we sucked it up as it was too late and dark to find another hotel. The next morning the heat still wasn't on - although there was hot water - and the bathroom was freezing! During breakfast we approached one or two other guests and asked them whether or not they had heat in their rooms. They all said yes. We then approached the day manager and told her what had happened. She immediately moved us to another room. We tried it for an hour to see if the heat came on. It did. Now as we only had 24 hours left before we had to leave we decided to stay. It was our 20th wedding anniversary and half of it was spent freezing and begging to me moved. Very disappointing.
Review 131:Day manager was helpful. But too little too late.
