Reviews for Hôtel Restaurant du Pont-Vieux
Review 1:The man on reception was not at all welcoming, and quite churlish. To reach the rooms you need to go up a narrow spiral staircase- very difficult with suitcases. The room was tired.
Review 2:Breakfast was good
Review 3:Small family hotel, all very friendly. A surprise was to enter the accommodation area through an ancient door, up winding stone steps of a turret, brilliant.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Staff very friendly, good English spoken. Free parking at rear. Close to motorway. Basic but very clean room, excellent value for money. Recommend travellers visit the upper part of the town as well, very nice. We walked up the 300 or so steps through winding streets but you could take a short taxi ride if you don't fancy the climb.
Review 6:It is not clear from the listing that the only way to the rooms is via a spiral staircase so we did not know this until we arrived. There was no offer to help with bags the only thing to hold on to was a rope which was not secure at the top and I thought it was very dangerous. I am a female travelling with my dad who is 72 so I made two trips with the bags the toilet did not flush and when I went and asked I was told I have to open the tap, when I opened the tap i then had to wait for the cistern to fill and then turn it off again.
Review 7:The room was a good size and the location was good
Review 8:a real little gem in a lovely typical french village just off the motorway for overnight stop on route to the south. everyone was so friendly, great value for money both hotel and local restaurant. would definitely stop here again.
Review 9:The owner and staff were so friendly and welcoming. We were too late arriving for dinner but they brought us a meal from the kitchen. It was our most friendly and hospitable experience in our two week trip to France and terrific value for money!
Review 10:Everything was pretty much shut in the evening, and it has such a busy through road from really early in the morning, so it was like the Grand Prix out side our window from about 5 am
Review 11:The hotel was located in little village we found a pizza place that did the most amazing pizzas and the couple who ran it were very helpful
Review 12:the toilet didn't work at all in our room, it didn't supply any water. so we've been given a room which toilet didn't work for ages. as we arrived quite late we couldn't change the room. the guy in the reception could not speak English when we approached him in the morning. we are not english ourselves but can speak that language, and I think if you work in a hospitality you must make an effort to learn language that you can communicate with other people. yes I know the room was cheap it the owners could still improve the view of the rooms a little bit as all there is old and not fresh
Review 13:the location suited me very well and I was greeted by a very pleasant young man who could not be more helpful, I was at first taken aback at the door to the accommodation being in the tower but on gaining access to the rooms it was a different experience and not medieval, The town was an interesting place and I would have like more time there, I would go again and stop in the same location.
Review 14:When you go to the rooms you have to climb some stairs in in a small turret, which is very old but if you have luggage it's not easy to negotiate the stairs which have a rope hand rail. The bathrooms are ok, but the rooms I have had, need decorating, but with time this will be a nice hotel with very friendly owners.
Review 15:The welcome I received when returning there 2 yrs later. They remembered me and gave me a free glass of wine. How many places would do this! You can also eat in the restaurant at reasonable prices. It's typical French cooking, you like it or you don't. Their Creme Brûlée is delicious and I would recommend that you try it. A nice simple hotel that still needs up grading
Review 16:We have used this hotel a number of times on our way to and from the south. It never fails to charm us. The price is excellent and the restaurant has a varied menu with nicely cooked food.
Review 17:At the bottom of the hill
Review 18:But nice river walks and free bus up the hill good food Very helpful friendly. Owner speaks excellent English Querky tower spiral staircase
Review 19:We would recommend this hotel as it is very low priced and you get a lot value for what you've paid for. There aren't any negative points we find... Thank you very much!
Review 20:We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The chef is very kind and flexible. First you take a dwindling staircase as if you're in a castel, then you go into your chamber to find a quite modern room, with very neat bathroom, comfortable beds and a fantastic view on the ancient city of Saint Flour. There even is a flatscreen television, and a good internet connection via Wifi.
Review 21:- Characteristic building but can't be seen back in the rooms; - At first sight it was clean and it looked good, but if you looked a bit closer there was dust and the furniture was getting old.
Review 22:- Great location, close to highway, but beautiful town as well with some great pubs and restaurants; - Free wifi; - Simple but well sized room; - Value for money.
Review 23:Work on the place was in progress
Review 24:Very friendly reception.
Review 25:Stayed there lots of times. Ideal stop over on route to South of France. Rooms good value and clean , food is always excellent. Staff very good.
Review 26:We have stayed at Pont Vieux many times over the years and it's excellant standards never vary
Review 27:Nice, helpful staff, clean and great atmosphere in hotel and delicious food. Lovely small town. I recommend.
Review 28:Stairs to bedroom
Review 29:Staff friendly place clean, good dinner and breakfast, convenient location
Review 30:Clean comfortable
Review 31:Friendly staff and good food
Review 32:No restaurant on the day we arrived.
Review 33:Practical for our requirements.
Review 34:Price, hospitality
Review 35:The spiral staircase and the view of the old town
Review 36:Stairs, entry to upstairs, very old spiral.
Review 37:Large room, very large bath, good beds
Review 38:Narrow spiral staircase a problem with cases.
Review 39:Good location. Reasonably priced meal. A quiet room. I will return when next in the area.
Review 40:Breakfast - food was not covered properly - flies.
Review 41:Service in the evening very good. Arrived at 10pm late, but room kept for us.
Review 42:Ontbijt nogal gelimiteerd
Review 43:Familiariteit, service,eenvoud
Review 44:close to restaurants and shops and next to old town
Review 45:Vey basic, small room.
Review 46:Great location, good breakfast so good value.
Review 47:all fine
Review 48:dog friendly, good location, pretty town
Review 49:The entrance to the rooms was really bad and run down
Review 50:Room was clean and comfortable and the rate reasonable
Review 51:Entrance up a narrow staircase to rooms
Review 52:Location to St. Flour You got what you paid for.
Review 53:Uncertain about safety and potential for escape in the event of a fire.
Review 54:Very good value for money. Room very basic but functional but bathroom was very acceptable without being plush.
Review 55:Lack of fire escape, narrow spiral stair case was interesting at first but a fire hazard. No fire extinguisher in hallway. Dinner was very ordinary.
Review 56:Breakfast. Location.
Review 57:Poor/no service at breakfast. Tough steak at dinner.
Review 58:Lovely tower to sleep in, friendly welcome, fab buffet starter at dinner, typical abundant Routiers - love it.
Review 59:Ask for a room at the back- as the traffic noise is infernal at the front unless you keep all windows shut. Then the noise of the security buzzer and door slams will keep you awake too. Rooms at the back are quiet and well worth it.
Review 60:Excellent value for money, shady parking round the back and felt secure, nice, homely feel to the place. Menu very good value - 15 euros for 4 courses or 21 euros for the menu auvergnat ( best saved for a cold winter's eve as hugely substantial!). Good breakfast and very clean facilities. Starched sheets and lots of towels. Loads to recommend it.
Review 61:The lack of interest when ordering food by one of the waitresses. She just didn't seem interested and her manner was questionable. I know she couldn't speak English and we could speak French but her attitude was not customer friendly.
Review 62:The location was on a main road but you couldn't hear the traffic where we were.
Review 63:Spiral stone staircase to rooms was difficult to manage with two cases. Would be a problem for an infirm person. Also slightly difficult egress from car park onto bend on busy road.
Review 64:Clean room, quiet and well-equipped for the price. Good restaurant for the price, friendly and helpful service
Review 65:Friendly and welcoming staff even though we were only staying one night. Excellent value for money - good atmosphere in the bar/restaurant. Room small but very clean.
Review 66:From previous reviews we were looking forward to sampling the food, unfortunately, as we were the only guests the proprieter decided not to staff the kitchen so we had to search for food elsewhere. Generally St. Flour was dead around the low area and up in the old town and this was a Saturday night! We will never stop at this hotel again.
Review 67:It was relatively cheap.
Review 68:Not for people with restricted mobility (spiral staircase)
Review 69:Friendly and welcoming staff, good evening meal. Dog friendly. Good value for money in a town that tends to be pricey
Review 70:No wardrobe or coat hooks anywhere! Scratchy towels.Heavy blankets -duvets woud be better. Very narrow spiral staircase with rope rail -not for the faint hearted or less mobile. Would be difficult with alarge suitcase. Busy road outside so would recommend asking for a roomat the back.
Review 71:Friendly welcome. Excellent dinner - best beef tongue we have evertasted - at very low cost too! Warm log fire in dining room. Heating onall night in very large bedroom and bathroom (a rarity in ourexperience). This was essential as it was snowing. Excellent comfortabletwo double beds in the twin.Very quiet inward facing room.Free privateparking. Good location for lower part of St. Flour and nearmotorway.Fantastic value for money for simple good accommodation andwould definitely use the hotel again for overnight on route to Spain.
Review 72:Very welcoming, typical old world France.
Review 73:Lots of character. Owner very welcoming.
Review 74:A bit dated
Review 75:Quirky layout, friendly owner (?)
Review 76:Paper thin walls between rooms
Review 77:Welcomed dogs. Good choice for vegetarians. Good location just off motorway.
Review 78:entrance& stair well a bit dangerous
Review 79:clean&tidy
Review 80:Friendly staff and excellent value for money. Food and drink in the restaurant was also good value.
Review 81:The winding staircase to our room was tricky as it was very narrow & old
Review 82:Staff was friendly & restaurant was excellent
Review 83:The lamps were not relaxed and were not positioned comfortable aside the beds.
Review 84:I chose this Hotel as there was a restaurant. The food was ok and the prices were reasonable and it is in the center of the town
