Reviews for Basic Hotel Bergen

Review 1:The reception only operates from 8am-4pm, which is a bit inconvenient if you want to store your luggage at reception.

Review 2:The staff is amazing. The room is good, clean, and have whatever you want.

Review 3:On Saturday night, I understood the earplugs in hotel room.

Review 4:Very basic clean hotel rooms in great location. I actually met any staff, becuase of no season. And did not need that. All instructions for picking up the key card worked well. And thanks god (and hotel staff) for the earplugs ;)

Review 5:It appeared that the room wasn't used for sometime, as there was dust on table, duvet etc.. It would have been good if they were clean. Free tea/coffee would have been good

Review 6:Comfortable mattress/pillows, spacious shower/toilet, mini refrigerator, cloth hangers, well kept toilet, smooth late night self check-in, luggage storage until 4:30pm and all needed amenities except wardrobe. The reception man was very helpful!

Review 7:As other reviewers have mentioned it is next to a club and can be very noisy. We did not notice in our first night, but on our second night of our stay there was extremely loud music until at least 2am. Ear plugs are provided. Wasn't too much of a problem for me But if you are a light sleeper you will have trouble.

Review 8:The hotel was in a great area to explore Bergen - Close to the central train station, center of town and lots of restaurants. The room was very clean, comfortable and larger than expected. Bathroom was very clean and included a hair dryer. Would highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Bergen.

Review 9:The water took forever to get warm. App 8-10min. The woman that worked in the reception was a bit unwilling to help us but it seemed that she had to much to do by her self. Amazing how much a smile could help here get along though...

Review 10:All our basic needs for a good stay were fullfilled.

Review 11:A few cosmetic things like scratches on floor and stains on the chair.

Review 12:We arrived after desk was closed - key left in secure locker. Was easy accessible and staff on intercom were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable - a lot of street and night club noise but ear plugs were provided. Easy access to everything in city centre. Comfortable stay. Also had a bar fridge and kettle.

Review 13:It's next to a night club. The noise was very loud. Perhaps that's why they included ear plugs in the room and the reception. They didn't help.

Review 14:It was short

Review 15:Loved it here. Stayed on the top floor and heard zero noise. Room was small but perfect. Amazing Wet Room shower and very comfortable bed. Would stay again!

Review 16:The discotheque at the street level below the hotel.

Review 17:Very helpful staff, who gave us a upgrade without any costs. We asked for another room because of the discotheque that made a lot of bass noise until 2.30 am. We wish the hotel success in their fight for their guests against this source of nuisance...

Review 18:Strict hours for front desk (no one available before 9AM, so we had to wait in a nearby coffeeshop)

Review 19:Central location Coffee & tea facilities Very comfortable bed

Review 20:bar downstairs pkayed LOUD disco beat until 3am and drunks rolled up and down the street unril 5am.

Review 21:good facilities in the room. good location near local-oriented restaurants.

Review 22:Lots of hairs under the top mattress. The hotel is right above a bar and we could hear the loud music until 2am. They do provide earplugs though.

Review 23:The location is great and what you get for the price is probably hard to beat in Bergen. Big enough room with large flat screen TV, big bathroom and comfy bed.

Review 24:What made our stay exceptional was the staff. The airline lost track of our bags between the US and Oslo, and we were only in Bergen for one night hoping they'd catch up with us before we moved on. The front desk staff had no problem at all with the courier dropping the bags off after we checked out, and even sent us a cheerful text message to let us know that both bags had arrived.

Review 25:Hotel doesnt have a parking. We had to park our car 500m far away from the hotel. The bathroom smeled really bad and we had hair in the towels. We had a room located to the street and it was really noisy during the night.

Review 26:Location was good, close to the city center. We came after checking hours and we had recieved clear instructions how to get to the hotel and where to find the keys for our rooms.

Review 27:Not the cleanest of rooms, dust of the floor etc. Noise from club below was quite loud n the Tuesday and Wednesday night, despite top floor / back of building location. Ear plugs were helpfully provided though!

Review 28:Good facilities and price for the location. Good check in / check out.

Review 29:extremly noisy can't sleep at all.. was terribel to noisy. closing reception too early so can't keep luggage latelt

Review 30:Location was good And... nothing good

Review 31:The night club thumping until 3 am both nights... a number if clubs on the street, all if whom play excessively loud bass music which reverberates to the 5th floor if the hotel.

Review 32:location excellent, sparkling cleanliness, good bed, good pillows.

Review 33:The lift can't access 5th where my room is, so we need to carry out luggage upstairs, which I didn't realize before, if I have noticed it, I will request a lower floor.

Review 34:Good location, everything is fine

Review 35:Me and a colleague needed a place to stay overnight. We were not in need of having breakfast at the hotel. The service and the kindness of the staff before the visit was impressive.

Review 36:Only trouble : a very noisy bar-club just under the hotel. Quite disturbing on the week end nights...

Review 37:Everything was so nice we wanted to stay 2 more nights.

Review 38:small room and not very clean, elevator only to 4th floor and we had a room on 5th floor (we had to use stairs which wasnt comfortable with heavy baggage), loud neighbourhood at night

Review 39:great location, helpful staff

Review 40:Noise in the bar downstairs until late p.m. Desk only staffed 3:00-11:00 p.m. 10' x 10.5' room was tiny. 1 mile hike to the bus station to catch airport bus. Price was high for what you get.

Review 41:Bathroom was clean. That's it.

Review 42:I didn´t like that i requested a room at the back of the hotel and we got a room on the front and had a sleepless night thanks to the many bars downstairs next to the hotel, even with the ear plugs (they don´t fit children's ears so good)!! It was hot in the room but the noise with the window open was unbearable.

Review 43:the receptionist was civil.

Review 44:Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the hotel unless you can sleep through loud bar music from somewhere near the hotel which could clearly be heard in our room until the early morning hours. Bring earplugs!

Review 45:The staff was very helpful especially the young man from Australia who went beyond the c as ll of duty to help us.

Review 46:We had booked a triple room, the third bed provided for adults was actually a child's bed. The staff were not very friendly and asked us to check out instead of helping with the situation.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:it's just next to the club. I was aware of that by reading other comments concerning this hotel... so I asked the "quite room" and I got it. Nevertheless, it's impossible to sleep until 4 AM... It's not just a problem of noise.... we felt the sound wave of speaker! If so-called quite room is like that,, I cannot imagine how noisy will be in other rooms.... If you are intended to go to this club or to stay awake late... this hotel may be a good choice... Unless..... staing here is ruining your trip...

Review 49:everything was ok except.....

Review 50:For the price at least a complimentary coffee and tea should be provided in the room

Review 51:room is spacious, clean, room facilities are good with hot water kettle

Review 52:the reception doesn't open for 24hours. we didn't notice the opening time, so we couldn't check our luggages on the day we leaved.

Review 53:the room was bigger than i thought it would be. we could walk to the station, bus terminal and other spots from the hotel.

Review 54:my room is very uncomfort, since there is a 45degree cut off the ceiling and make the room very small. I am not tall but i need to stoop to go to bed.

Review 55:Great location within walking distance of train station, ferry terminal and the main tourist attractions. Starbucks a block away! No regular room service but I had no problem with this as it keeps costs down in a very expensive city and country. Room very clean. Good sized bathrooom.

Review 56:There is a bar right below with very loud music until late. However, you can request a room to the internal patio and you will not hear it.

Review 57:Location was excelent. The hotel is basic, although expensive still good price quality relation compared to the high prices in Bergen.

Review 58:Late loud music from Bar next door

Review 59:The hotel is located close to the University and the bars/clubs of Bergen. On Fri and Sat nights, music can be heard til about 2am from the rooms. But if you are out partying this won't effect you and it is a handy location to get back to from the bars/clubs. As the name states, you get the Basics at this hotel - bed, shower, TV, kettle and hairdryer in your room. Cleaning of room is once a week. There is no breakfast but a nice little cafe close by, serves breakfast. As Bergen is small, it is easy to get to anywhere from the hotel.

Review 60:No breakfast Located near the university - normally that's fine, but I was there during the freshman orientation week. There are MULTIPLE bars on the street and they were very loud until late at night. Reception closes at 11 pm.

Review 61:Friendly staff. Spacious rooms, by Norway standards. Nice layout and larger bed than other budget hotels. Fast Wifi that worked well.

Review 62:You can hear people singing and dancing on the street, after closing the window, can eliminate most of the sounds. Our room is at 5th floor, elevator only takes us to 4th, and will need to walk upstairs to the 5th. Walking is alright, but carrying luggages is a little bit hectic

Review 63:Staff is nice. Room is clean and nice, but there's smell on the hallway and stairway. Overall, It's actually better than what I expect as a "basic" hotel.

Review 64:Paper thin mattress, hair (head and pubic, not mine) on floor, noise from bar nearby until early hours.

Review 65:Friendly reception. Location. Good cheap coffee machine.

Review 66:No lift, no kettle above level 4.

Review 67:Location - walked to centre and Hurtigruten terminal and bus station. Could buy food nearby. Helpful staff. Stayed a night at start of Norway trip; came back for a night at end of trip.

Review 68:Lift goes only to level 4. Level 5 room had no kettle, but level 3 room did.

Review 69:Location within walk of Hurtigruten dock, bus station and tourist centre. Came back for a second night after 3 weeks away.

Review 70:Very comfortable. We loved having the fridge and electric jug in our room. We asked for a quiet room due to the pub being downstairs and staff obliged giving us a 5th (top) floor room. Okay, so the lift finishes and the room is in the attic, so the roof slopes down considerably on one side, but it was quiet! Thanks. It's an easy walk to all attractions and there's a supermarket across 100m away.

Review 71:Very helpful and smiling staff. At the heart of the city. Perfect location. No cafeteria at the hotel but a perfect sandwich shop (Godt Brød) right at the corner. Don't miss their delicious sandwiches.

Review 72:Hallways, floors, carpets not clean; front desk staff marginally helpful.

Review 73:Convenient location; superior double room had ample space, fridge, electric pot.

Review 74:There is no possibility to switch of air condition which makes quite a noise. And also there is a bar downstairs which is open every day except Sunday til 2:30 am and is really really noisy (music), so ear plugs are a must!!

Review 75:Basic Hotel is just 10 minutes walk from centre of Bergen, 5 minutes from bus stop to airport. Also a grocery store is next to it. Rooms are small but enough for a short stay.

Review 76:if you are a light sleeper you are near a few late night bars but we were at very top and the free ear plugs came in handy so surpprisingly didn't bother too much, woudlnt stop staying there again

Review 77:Perfect location, contemporary furnishings

Review 78:The extra bed was not opened nor made as we requested it for the three of us living in a double room. However, the staff member was really nice and immediately sorted it out for us.

Review 79:The staff were really nice and recommended good local restaurants nearby (Penguine is a really nice pub if you want some Norwegian local cruisine!). The room was tidy, clean and new with all the basic facilities you need.

Review 80:Very loud on weekend nights and hot water ran out after 11:00pm on two night of our stay..

Review 81:The front desk female worker was very helpful. She tried to accomadate our requests for softer bedding. And extra towels . The location was perfect . Close to train, bus and waterfront.

Review 82:Really small rooms

Review 83:Cozy little place. The staff was very cordial and went out of their way to be helpful. We checked in and out at odd hours but the desk staff assured that all went smoothly.

Review 84:Noisy to 3:30 in the morning, sound of sub-woofer! Had no choice but to use supplied earplugs to tone noise down.

Review 85:Very friendly and helpful person to deal with.

Review 86:Night club is in the same building as Basic Hotel. I stayed on the 3rd floor from Thursday to Sunday. The first day was calm but other nights were too noisy to sleep. I'd be happy if there is cream or milk (powder) next to coffee machine! One small trouble was...the water overflowed from the drain when I was taking a shower in the bathroom.

Review 87:Location, convenient for sightseeing and shopping (one supermarket is on the same street as Basic Hotel). Hotel staffs were friendly. Wifi condion was good and room was clean.

Review 88:Right next to a nightclub. You can hear it at night BUT they do provide ear plugs. Didn't bother us too much but I can see other people getting annoyed.

Review 89:Great location! 10 min walk from Fjordline terminal, 10 min walk from fish market. Affordable in INSANELY EXPENSIVE Norway.

Review 92:Second day we had no hot water. Receptionist was not helpful (different from receptionist on first day)

Review 93:Good location. Friendly reception when we checked in.

Review 94:for some reason TV didn't work in the morning.

Review 95:Great place! small but well equipped rooms, with kettle, hairdryer, small desk and tv. great location, quiet room overlooking inner courtyard. My new favourite place to stay in Bergen!Coffe, tea machine on the corridor.

Review 96:Only one PowerPoint in room and it wasn't easy to access.

Review 97:Location was great. All staff we encountered were very helpful including restaurant recomendations

Review 98:This hotel is as described, basic, but it is very clean and comfortable and in an excellent location close to the sites of central Bergen. The beds are very comfortable and the shower is quite roomy with lots of hot water.

Review 99:We had asked for a room on the top floors not knowing that we had to carry our bags from the elevator on the 4th to the fifth by the stairs. Not recommendable after spine surgery. Fortunately we only stayed one night since the rooms are cleaned once a week!!! No reception before 9 AM, just drop your keys. Look elsewhere.

Review 100:More or less located in the centre of Bergen.

Review 101:The noise from the bar beside the hotel is a let down. If you're light sleeper and have to wake up early, it's not much fun. They inform you on the website about the noise, but so noisy I wasn't expecting.

Review 102:Lovely hotel with modern design and very comfortable beds. Great location for both the airport bus and restaurants.

Review 103:i stayed on a tues night but the bar next door had very loud music going untill early hours . I was lucky as my room was on 4th floor at the back but could still hear and feel it , but faintly perhaps ear plugs would be worth having

Review 104:All good for the price. No breakfast, but plenty of nearby options

Review 105:Top location, good room and bathroom. No frills obviously, but clean, modern and great value

Review 106:There is a bar downstairs, this resulted in excessive noise until 3am. So sleeping was impossible. Do something about it.

Review 107:Excellent service Excellent staff Good pace of the check in and check out service. Good facilities (wifi, shower, etc.)

Review 108:Unfortunately the hotel is next to a bar and my room was next to it. Very loud, I should have requested a different room. Other than that, the hotel was adequate and I enjoyed my stay.

Review 109:The location was great and was a straight shot to the fish market. The market is where all the main attractions are located: shopping, food and the tourist information center. It was about 10 min to the train station.

Review 110:nothing

Review 111:from the name i wasn't expecting much, but i loved my room, it was cozy and quite stylish. Central location, 10 minute walk to Train Station

Review 112:The hotel is clean, comfortable, quiet and efficient. We arrived after check-in hours but had been given door codes and instructions for entering. We never actually saw any staff, even when checking out at 12:00 on Sunday, but just left the room key in a box in the lobby. However, there were phone numbers of staff posted if there had been a need to speak to someone personally

Review 113:The location is also a problem because the hotel is beside a nightclub that plays very loud beats till 2:30 a.m. The hotel gives out earplugs upon arrival and in the rooms.

Review 114:The location is okay generally for accessing all parts of the city.

Review 115:Music can be heard at night until 3.00am due to nightclub next door. Ear plugs were supplied but one could hear the beat of the music.

Review 116:Good location Good bed and linen Good shower Excellent staff

Review 117:Basic is the perfect name, but basic does not mean lack of amenities or esthetics. I had everything I needed and I loved the design -- older building with marble staircase and high ceilings but spare, contemporary furnishings.

Review 118:A tad noisy at night (but hotel supplied earplugs)

Review 119:The basic hotel is exactly what it says - it is a small room with an ensuite. For a night you need no more. Great place to rest your head whilst exploring Bergen.

Review 120:Rooms are a bit grubby and dated.

Review 121:Location. Nice spacious rooms. Good price for very pricey Bergen. Save your money by booking your room here, then buying breakfast buffet vouchers for another good hotel in Bergen. This will save you substantial money.

Review 122:Breakfest is should be purchased and the restaurant is not in the hotel, A club is on the ground floor, noisy at night

Review 123:Good place, good equipments, rather less cost in Bergen

Review 124:The room had no curtains so you can see into the apartment across which for me was awkward.

Review 125:The room is well furnished and modern with lovely furnishings. Has a homely feel. The bed is comfortable. Location was good as well.

Review 126:Kenneth and Quinn (Australian) were very helpfully. Went above and beyond to help with any of our needs and helping with suggestions. Quinn was even kind enough to catch bus in to let me in at midnight when I left key inside. Not once did he show any frustration.

Review 127:The only downside are two bars in the same building as hotel. We were staying in the middle of the week (Thursday) and the loud bass banging from the bar disco was present until 2 or 3 am. And we had the quietest room in the hotel on 5th floor facing backyard! Maybe if the windows were changed it would help, they are so old and not sound insulating at all. So no go for light sleepers, other than that a great little hotel for a nice price. Oh, and there was completely no staff either on check in and check out, so it felt a bit weird.

Review 128:Room reasonably big, large flat tv, small fridge and ok bathroom. Really comfortable beds. Location almost perfect, close to both train station and city center.

Review 129:There's couple of bars and a disco in the building next to the hotel. You can clearly hear the base ("Boomboomboom") up 'till closing time at 02:00. We stayed on the topmost floor, so it didn't bother us much.

Review 130:It's a decent hotel - almost fully automated with no staff present except during daytime. It was easy to get your key (SMS pin code in my case), the bed was nice, everything was clean, etcetc. The perfect hotel for our weekend-long trip to Bergen.

Review 131:The noise from the pubs (they give you earplugs). The individual nordic/blancket in a double bed. It was quite anoying. Perhaps the room had too much things ( too much pillows flowers... etc... But the room it was ok.

Review 132:Situation, Staff, and the room it was OK.

Review 133:Staff was so warm and friendly. They went out of their way to help my friend and me. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! Great nights sleep at a great price!

Review 134:I wish we could check in earlier and don't wait for opening hotel after long trip...

Review 135:Very comfortable cozy room with great bed! Fantastic localization!

Review 136:-a little noisy at night because above nightclubs, can feel vibrations up until 1AM

Review 137:-no staff but we had everything we needed other than toiletries etc (which explains the cheap price) -clean
