Reviews for Victoria Inn
Review 1:It's old and tired but clean enough. Wouldn't expect much more for the price though.
Review 2:Landlady was really friendly and helpful. Location was ideal. Very reasonable price
Review 3:I really like the price and quality idea. Looking to the photos the room does not look so good, but I am not regret of booking it: it was clean, warm enough, tasty food in restaurant, polite and helpful staff. It is not definitely for posh people but comparing the other UK hotels I was this is fair enough with the price and very good quality!
Review 4:The floor of the (non-suite) toilet was usually covered with wee; not very nice! No breakfast, due to fire in kitchen.
Review 5:Comfortable bed. Secure storage for bike.
Review 6:Don't expect to get a breakfast! I was told that their kitchen had burnt out some 4 months previously. Apparently, Booking.com had been already been told about this, so perhaps it's their fault that reservations are still being taken for B&B. They charged us £35 instead of £50, which seemed like a reasonable compromise to me. Opening hours seem very erratic but this appears to apply to the whole of the curious little town of Alston!
Review 7:The room was very spacious and comfortable. Good value for money, if you're OK with a bit of rough 'n' ready. Snobs look elsewhere.
Review 8:The place is a bit ramshackle and probably a bit noisey of a weekend for young families, the bar seems to be the mainstay of the business. Lack of facillities for evening meal and breakfast was an issue.
Review 9:Rooms were reasonably clean and comfortable for a short stopover.
Review 10:There was a significant amount of disturbance from adult clients early on Sunday morning, before one would expect to be up and about, which disturbed the peace and quiet before 9 am.
Review 11:Central location and quaint.
Review 12:Unfortunately there had been a fire meaning no breakfast, we were told in advance of our arriving. It is a b&b in a pub and cheap, you get what you pay for.
Review 13:The owner is incredibly friendly and accommodating, good location in the middle of the coast to coast route
Review 14:Noisy, rude people smoking, drinking, shouting at the bottom of the stairs to our room. Stench of smoke, mouldy tea bags, stained bedding. The pub below the room ruined our stay as we got no sleep!
Review 15:Alston is a beautiful place but stay in some other accommodation!
Review 16:We arrived and they told us there was no breakfast available but they would discount that from the cost. The next morning we couldn't find anywhere open for breakfast... On the Saturday night, the bar below was quite noisy
Review 17:The town is pretty.
Review 18:The landlady is very friendly and the accommodation is OK but basic. The pub is situated close to the centre of this small town. There is ample parking opposite. The kitchen is out of action due to a fire, which is a pity because I have stayed here before and the breakfast is great!!!
Review 19:Booked more than 2 months ago, arrived to be told that no breakfast could be provided due to a fire in the kitchen in April. No attempt had been made to contact us. Place is dirty and run-down. AVOID.
Review 20:Leaving the Victoria Inn behind, knowing I would never go there again.
Review 21:Kitchen is burnt out, no meals are available. Hotel is on a very steep hill (which is not depicted in the picture) and parking is non-existent. Neighbouring businesses all close at 9pm. Some rooms are non-smoking, but the smoking rooms air exchanges with the other rooms. En-suite for triple room was a shared bathroom.
Review 22:The hotel desperately needs renovation & redecoration. Our room was smelly and not very pleasant to stay in. Breakfast was included in the room rate, but was unavailable due a recent fire in the kitchen. The owner reduced the room rate to account for this.
Review 23:Nice town, owners very friendly, but are making the best of what I'm sure they know is a bad situation
Review 24:No breakfast because the kitchen burned down last week 2 am licence not good for the kids dirty rooms moldey tea bags in room punters smocking in hall way smelling all threw the place not good at all
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:Property in desperate need of renovating. No breakfast as the kitchen had burned down.
Review 27:Incredibly friendly and hospitable owner made us very comfortable. Probably the cheapest B&B you will ever find.
Review 28:They had lost booking so weren't expecting us. There was no breakfast available. Facilities are all in poor condition. T-bags in room were mouldy. It was also very noisy from pub downstairs until late and not possible to close door
Review 29:Location was ok for us
Review 30:cigarette smoke (pub goers smoking in the stair well and it just drifts up) mattress springs
Review 31:friendly staff, good wifi - even on the top floor, flexible about leaving bags
Review 32:The unfortunate fire in the kitchen, meant we couldn't have what is normal a very very nice breakfast, and a curry on the night time
Review 33:The staff are aways very happy and helpfull, and accomadating very chatty and cheerful
Review 34:the noise from the pub downstairs was too much my wife didn't get to sleep till 3am in the morning and it sounded like some kind of bar fight , smashed glasses and people being thrown out of the pub .
Review 35:the room was clean and spacious. the pub has a pool table.
Review 36:I was rather disappointed that we were so far away from the actual lake district. We had to drive around 40 miles.
Review 37:The oriental lady that greeted us on our arrival was very friendly and helpful.
Review 38:The staff are very friendly and helpfull, they make you feel very welcome. The rooms are fantastic value for money, and the location in the centre of Alston was ideal for us, staying above the pub was even better. Will be going back!
Review 39:The entrance is a bit misleading- the hall carpet does need to bereplaced and does not do the rest of the b and b justice-but we spoke tothe landlady about it and she knows it is a fault. Nothing else.
Review 40:The landlady! Very friendly and chatty and knowledgeable about thearea(but not intrusive) Very comfortable bedroom. Liked the sofa andarmchair -very relaxing. Free WiFi Excellent breakfast. Very good valuefor money bed and breakfast. We had the double room with ensuite and Iwould recommend this room.
Review 41:having to get out of a very comfy bed
Review 42:made welcome as soon as i walked in ' i paid 50 pound for a double room ,on my own the landlady gave me ten pound back.i dont eat breakfast ,so ordered a bacon sandwich to go. all ready when i checked out and a drink to go with it
Review 43:- noisy neighborhood - not easy to understand every word of the owner - dirty toilets (i cleaned them myself), dirty around the toilets
Review 44:- nice setting - large tasty english breakfast - friendly asian owner
Review 45:The room was smelly, and, as it is on top of a pub and we stayed over a Saturday night, it was very noisy. The shared bathroom was acceptably clean. But the room was not very clean and it was very old.
Review 46:Good location and acceptable value for money
Review 47:Staff very friendly couldnt do enough to help us as we had to be away really early in the morning, even rang mid week to explain that there was a party on at the weekend so it would be very noisy and did i want to cancel, and a lovely little village pity it was just a bed for the night, i would stay again :)
Review 48:Very noisey until early hours. Didn't sleep very well :-(
Review 49:Location was very good, the curry at night, and the breakfast in the morning was very good.. :-)
Review 50:It was interesting to see only indian food menu in old traditional british inn. We missed traditional food.
Review 51:Staff of the inn was really nice and helpfull. We have felt welcome guests and got very good service.
Review 52:The fact that the place was a "young people's hotel" which was licensed until 3.00am according to the landlady who apologised for the noise, shouting obscenities and fighting which made sleep impossible until the early hours. We checked out before breakfast the next day with a reduced rate from the landlady and will not be going back. I do not expect to be charged for the second night's accommodation. Had I been aware of the hotel's status I would not have booked.
Review 53:The photograph on the web.
Review 54:Strong smell of cigarettes from the patrons downstairs, and being a bank holiday, crowd below was loud at times until quite late (can't blame them). For the price of it, we wouldn't stay there again unless we absolutely had to.
Review 55:Nice big room with an ensuite, the bar, the staff and the breakfast.
Review 56:Dirty stained bed linen Electrical PAT testing items over a year out of date Only one channel on TV Very noisy toilet/ extract First impression extremely bad, dirty walls and carpets Needs refurbishment urgently, surprised anyone would stay there!! Very disappointed as this was the first night of our holiday.
Review 57:The window in the bathroom was frosted glass but there wasn't a blind up. I was concerned that people overlooking the room would be able to see in. Room No. 2
Review 58:The Landlady was very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast was lovely.
Review 59:Friendly and very helpful landlady and excellent Asian restaurant attached. This is an inexpensive Inn and if you're looking for no frills, basics, it's very good value for money.
Review 60:didn't open til 15.30 on a Saturday located on VERY steep hill no assured parking Very steep stairs with very narrow treads and only one bannister.Diffficult for elderly
Review 61:surprisingly good indian restaurant large room
Review 62:A bit noisy with the pub downstairs but thats to be expected.
Review 63:Friendly staff, the room was small but suited my purpose. Was clean and tidy

Review 78:Bar very noisy until 3.00 am
Review 79:Location ok
Review 80:Window didn't close, curtain didn't cover windows, cigarette smoke was coming up into the room.
Review 81:Location was ideal and setting is lovely.
Review 82:The walls are paper thin and the building is in urgent need of significant refurbishment
Review 83:Room clean, but needed decorating 10 years ago Rest of place pretty dirty
Review 84:Owner Price Breakfast
Review 85:Dirty communal areas, rooms not much better. Really noisy bar below, banging tunes till the small hours, cigarette smoke wafting into rooms.
Review 86:Dirty stair carpet.
Review 87:The room was excellent. Breakfast was good, especially the eggs. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 88:Room over pub, noisy till wee hours Bit tired, but it is priced accordingly
Review 89:Helpful landlady, tried to make me welcome Basic but clean
Review 90:Facilities were not clean, carpets dirty, bedding stained, one breakfast was served with a large dead fly on the plate.
Review 91:Location.
Review 92:Friendliness
Review 93:Couldn't find a fault!
Review 94:Staff were excellent- very friendly and attentive. Owner is a lovely lady who couldn't do enough for us. The building is old but well maintained and our room very comfortable. Traffic on the cobbled street outside was somewhat noisy but not bothersome.
Review 95:We have no negative comments to make at all :)
Review 96:The landlady was friendly and welcoming and very helpful. The room was large and pretty comfortable. The breakfast was nice and generous. Although there is no parking specifically for Victoria Inn, there was plenty of free parking in the village. We enjoyed our night and would stay again.
Review 97:Really nice, friendly landlady, Big room with comfy seating in it. Decor was a little dated but so what? it was clean and had everything we needed. It is above a pub so there is bound to be some noise if the pub is busy but this did not bother us and all Inn accommodation in Alston is right next to cobbled road so there will be a little traffic noise but not excessive. Excellent indian restaurant/takeaway in the back of the pub in the evenings. Delicious meal we had. This is excellent value for money and we would stay there again if we were in the region.
Review 98:Room was not sound proof, had to cover gaps around the door with a towel and a pillow. There were no staff available for breakfast the morning after arrival and I had to make my own breakfast and let myself out and lock the door when leaving! Cereal was three months past the use by date and I had to find milk from fridge behind the bar!
Review 99:The price was fair for a bed and breakfast.
Review 100:Décor of room was old fashioned and tired. Sheets on bed were nylon type material and stair carpet was dirty.
Review 101:The curry was great and very friendly manageress.
Review 102:noisy in the evenings due to being above a pub, only cooked breakfast and no muesli/cereals, weak coffee, no fruit
Review 103:friendly staff, spacious room, upgraded to en-suite at no additional cost, secure and dry space for bicycle in adjacent garage
Review 104:Shabby exterior and very dirty entrance. Worn carpet on stairs. Nochoice of breakfast and no cereal. Bedding was clean but not ironed. This has the appearance and amenities of a very low budget hotel andshould be pricing its rooms accordingly.
Review 105:Clean, quiet room. The pub was closed in the evening.
Review 106:Staff. Not one British member of staff. Difficulty in understanding.Lack of cleanliness. No choice at breakfast. Poorly cooked egg baconetc plonked on the table in a dingy dark dining space (I can'treally call it a room). No cereal on offer. The carpets at the inn weredirty and the smell kept us awake. Young girls drunk or on drugs wereat the entrance lying on the stairs talking to Asian men when wereturned at 10 pm.
Review 107:Nothing. Very disappointed
Review 108:we were on the coast to coast cycle ride and when we arrived we were meet with a warm friendly greeting a home made hot meal and comfy rooms. We had a really early start the next morning and the landlady got up an hour early to cook our breakfast which was delicious and there was plenty of it, just what we needed to set us up for a long day of cycling!! Can't recommend the Victoria Inn enough.
Review 109:It was run down. Bed linen smelt stale as if someone had been smoking inthe room. It was noisey with drunks leaving the pub below. There was nochoice at breakfast, I was not even given the choice whether I wantedcooked breakfast or not, it was just thrown in front of me.
Review 110:Apart from the hostess being very helpful and the room huge thats about all I can say. I would only recommend this place for a bloke for a pub room.
Review 111:biker friendly
Review 112:When I arrived was close and I dint have any place to stay!!!!!
Review 113:Well situated and a very welcoming landlady and staff. I was right up at the top, so none of the noise that others have mentioned. Good Breakfast

Review 118:the lot
Review 119:Dart board under my bedroom!!!
Review 120:friendly and helpful staff
Review 121:Historic, but not well kept. Bare carpet, lumpy mattress.
Review 122:Location in city centre. Good breakfast.
Review 123:Perhaps would have been nice to have cereals as well as cooked breakfast
Review 124:Good value for money. Pleasant staff. Nice room and comfortable bed..
