Reviews for Killin Hotel

Review 1:The room, 46, was very disappointing, I'm not sure if it's the owner or his mate who's the DIY expert, whoever they need to employ an interior designer and professional builder! The hotel needs a complete makeover. The advertised WIFI didn't work, the meal (steak) was dreadful, should have been a medium rare rib eye steak, how difficult is that, it was almost inedible. The room had a TV, unfortunately you couldn't watch it because the posts on the 4 poster bed were in the way. No staff on reception, the staff didn't smile, wouldn't stay again. Was going to tell them this on check out, but they didn't even ask how the stay was! Sorry guys, bad hotel bad experience, bad food!

Review 2:From the outside the hotel looked inviting, nice location.

Review 3:The staff were very professional in their outlook, very unobtrusive and allowed us to enjoy our stay without being over fussy (a pet hate) we were impressed by the cleanliness of the room, which boasted a delightfull decor. The food was of a good standard with a nice selection of malts to keep me content :) We would definitely stay here again when we are in the area - many thanks

Review 4:The walls between our rooms were paper thin. The drain in our sink would block if you turned the tap on full and would take awhile to drain down. It would take about 3-5min for hot water to come through but when it did there was plenty of it.

Review 5:Loved Killin hotel.. The staff, ambience and food were lovely.. Beds comfortable.. Would recommend

Review 6:Great location for hill walking or just exploring the area, or on the way to Highlands. The whole village have nice atmosphere. Nice and friendly people. Very good food! Good breakfast. Definitely will stay here again and definitely would recommend to friends.

Review 7:I was on the first floor but my sister was located on third. She had wonderful views but could not get her room to heat sufficiently.

Review 8:Staff were outstanding. Location excellent. Breakfasts wonderful! Great insight into historic Killin.

Review 9:A minor complaint, if any is that some of the plumbing can be a bit noisy, and a flushed toilet reverberates between floors. Didn't really bother us though and for a building of this age and character it would be odd to have everything bang up to date.

Review 10:All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly during our stay. Theyade our first trip with a five month old baby totally bearable. Hotel has bags of character and the food, both at breakfast and in the restaurant was impeccable. Very impressed with the service and value.

Review 11:Although we loved the annex room the walls are very thin and could hear all the chat and laughing from next door till after 2.30am.

Review 12:Very helpful staff. Comfy lounge and eating area. Early breakfast provided for race runners in the GO 33 ultra Marathon. Annex very clean and comfortable.

Review 13:Bed very lumpy and uncomfortable. 4 poster Room we had paid for had been double booked, so had normal room eh oh we were not happy about, as wanted a big romantic bed and window. They adjusted the price and gave us a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates, but wasn't the same. We wanted the big room. The bed was very noisy and lumpy, so we didn't sleep well. Not the romantic evening we were looking forward to.

Review 14:Food lovely, but hotel needs to pull up it's socks

Review 15:It's not a complaint, the main meal was beautiful but there could be more of a break in between courses

Review 16:The peace and quiet. The surrounding countryside.

Review 17:A convenient stop-over, set in delightful surroundings, for us journeying further north. As previous customers, we were aware of the standards set by all the staff.

Review 18:We had a spring sticking out of our mattress but we were changed rooms immediately. The bathroom in our bedroom although beautifully decorated was so small your knees touch the wall when using the facilities!!

Review 19:The food and location are excellent, this is our third time staying and would definitely recommend it for value for money

Review 20:All the staff were friendly & the atmosphere was very relaxed. A good selection of beer & cider in the bar and good wifi reception in the lounge area. Breakfast was good too.

Review 21:The room was slightly disappointment and in need of a little TLC. Me and my partner also had a poor nights sleep on the first night, due to having our head board on the wall which the other room had their TV on, poor positioning gave us a poor nights sleep and bad first impression. No night porter so I ended up banging on the door of a disgruntled mans room at 3am!! Rooms 38/39

Review 22:The location was fantastic, very picturesque and relaxing.

Review 23:We stayed in this excellent hotel whilst walking the Rob Roy Way. It is set in a beautiful location by the river and if the weather is fine, you can sit outdoors to enjoy your drink. The welcome is warm and friendly and there is a great ethos amongst the friendly and helpful staff. Our room was beautiful and very clean. The bar is cosy and the conservatory restaurant is pleasant. The food is very good and breakfast is superb. The waitress in charge of breakfast during our stay could not have been more helpful. We will definitely go back to stay here. We loved it!

Review 24:Unfortunately, hotel lost water on morning of departure (burst main) and was just inconvenient and no fault of hotel staff.

Review 25:Staff were lovely and setting nice.

Review 26:Nothing!

Review 27:It is supreme! We got a beautiful room, on the first floor, at a coupleof hours notice(and a 60-mile drive, when we found Oban completely booked-up, with a Gaelic Music Festival, televised from the Corran Hall! There's two trout rivers, one under our window, Cheap day-tickets5-6 quid, from the newsagent up the road. A beautiful many-tartandecored dining-room, and a full English (Scottish?) Breakfast!Infinitely better than the Continental Breakfast, offered as, default,factory-food, in similar-priced accommodation, generally. Wi-Fi works inthe Resident's Lounge, not in one's room. We were offered a freeupgrade when setting-off from Oban, by 'fone, from the not-so-goodAnnexe, a former stables! Great Staff, Scottish and European, veryefficient, and superb, for a perfect night's sleep. Overlooking theriver's bend! Had the best Haddock and chips Dinner, I've everhad at the eat-in/out Eatery, on the left, driving-back,toward's the river-bridge, one has to cross, to get to the KillinHotel, near the end of the Main street, away from the bridge! Truly ahidden Gem, for exploring Perthshire. (I know the trout season justended, but will be back, next year!)

Review 28:We were given a very small room with two single beds which was a surprise to us. The picture they showed on the website was nothing like the room we got. Nobody at reception when we arrived.

Review 29:Excellent food, brilliant location, fantastic staff.

Review 30:Very uncared for rooms and shocking en suite with tiles falling off wall around shower, broken shower head and sticky damaged flooring. Was loathe to have a shower it was so poor. This was very sad as the reet of the hotel was excellent

Review 31:Very friendly and helpful staff, nice public areas and great views

Review 32:The road in from Killin was a little nerve racking but managed with the passing places

Review 33:we were there to trace ancestors from 1850's who had run the Ardeonaig when it was a drovers Inn staff were helpful and directed us to places we wished to see

Review 34:conveyor belt like bread toasting machine at breakfast.(took to long to toast bread to your liking.)

Review 35:pleasant staff, clean and comfortable bedroom, reasonable prices for food and drink.

Review 36:Burst water main no water all day Could have had more variety on food menu and porridge at breakfast not like scottish porridge Very thin

Review 37:We loved the view over the lock and the fantastic scenery

Review 38:Mattress was worn out & uncomfortable, breakfast didn't start until 8am, not good if you have a long drive home/ am flight to catch

Review 39:Great location, friendly staff, good food

Review 40:the staff needed to be trained in customer service; there was an issue in the morning and no one had hot water, I did resevie a discount which was ok

Review 41:nothing outstanding

Review 42:Shower was scolding hot and we couldn't change the temperature. Bathrooms are so tiny - you have to get out of the shower to pick up the soap which falls on the floor as there's nowhere to put it. Rooms clean but lumpy beds and old carpet make the rooms uninviting.

Review 43:Staff friendly and bar and restaurant area very pleasant with good food. Hotel set on pretty spot.

Review 44:For me, the restaurant dinner main courses were short of vegetable or salad elements and no side-dishes were offered. When I asked, a single green veg. side-dish was offered. Though 'mash' was included in several main courses I was refused it as an extra to a chicken dish listed (and confirmed) as consisting ONLY of meats. Disappointing.

Review 45:Hotel in beautiful setting. Room smart and cozy with a beautiful view. En-suite was spick-and-span.

Review 46:The bed was not comfortable at all.. I barely slept... A nice thick mattress topper would have done wonders.

Review 47:Beautiful setting, great sun room, staff great. Town easy to get around. Lots of walking trails.

Review 48:Not a bad experience, but whole plumbing system in hotel could do with complete update!i appreciate it would be expensive but it needs done asap for the safety factor with the shower in particular.fulfilling

Review 49:Location,choice of beers, menu and food was excellent, weather was great as well, staff very friendly and helpful

Review 50:The double room was single room size with a double bet with almost no space fpr anything else. The bathroom, half meter wide, with no place to move two persons inside. The houskeeping horrible. The do not even make the bet. Jist put the conforter on with no care at all. I sent a complaint Email with pictures of the bed, and they did not even replied.

Review 51:Location in a peaceful village Nice place next to the river.

Review 52:We loved our bedroom, with its four-poster bed and windows on two sides. Really lovely crisp white bedlinen..... Staff were wonderful, and very helpful with the two Vegans who were travelling with us. The bathroom was a bit basic, but obviously they had done well to fit one into the room.

Review 53:Staff were very helpful and friendly. We had my elderly parents and our son with us. I emailed asking for a room with easy access and walk-in shower for my parents and asked if the other two rooms could be near each other-Morgan emailed back promptly and the rooms were perfect for us. We used the hotel restaurant both nights - food was lovely - my parents are not big eaters now and the waitress suggested they could use the childrens menu. The views from the rooms were lovely too!

Review 54:Killin hotel was amazing . The staff were very helpful, kind and friendly. Bedrooms were lovely spacious and amazing views. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends and return again

Review 55:The lady at breakfast was rude we waited a while for our breakfast , was given the wrong food and didn't get much of an apology. We returned for being out for the day our room had not been cleaned we didn't have fresh towels only the bin had been emptied. On our way out that evening we said to the woman at reception who was rude and informed us that we must not have left our towels on the floor which we did. She then shifted from her seat to someone I presume who worked in house keeping. Then 5 minutes later came back and said it wasn't likely out bed would be made as there were no cleaners and tried to hand me towels as myself and my boyfriend were clearly dressed to go out. We then explained it wasn't convenient for us to go back up to our room we had s dinner reservation. Over all her attitude and customer service skills were shocking

Review 56:The girl that greeted us when we arrived at the hotel was very polite and helpful.

Review 57:Curtains let in too much light so we were awake quite early. There was a notice in bathroom explaining that the hot water could take up to 10 minutes to come to the room, so we let the water run for 20 minutes but still no hot water. Switched the tap to the cold setting and almost immediately hot water poured. The sink also had a sharp chip missing from the front of it. We had stayed at this hotel 37 years ago on our honeymoon and there is no comparison to the welcome we got then and the total lack of welcome and interest we got this time from the staff. We even told at least 4 members of staff that we had stayed before but they were not interested. It was such a mistake for us to go back.

Review 58:Room was comfortable. Had lovely dinner in the hotel but this was because there was little choice in the village. Breakfast was very good. Lady serving in breakfast was the only member of staff who engaged with us.

Review 59:Quite a small room and a very small bathroom. (No elbow room in the shower!)

Review 60:Beautiful location Short walk to local pubs and shops Pleasant room Good food and drink with bright, spacious conservatory near the bar

Review 61:No hot water fro 3 days (we were given a discount). Our room in the annexe was appalling so we insisted on changing to the main hotel after one night.

Review 62:Location and friendly staff

Review 63:The very small bedroom, only one chair for two people to put clothes. Tiny bathroom Not friendly staff.

Review 64:The gardens and view down to the river, the light and airy glass enclosed dining room, Food Standard,

Review 65:wifi didn't work in our bedroom. Small bathroom. Bad isolation. We heard distinctively the noises and conversations from the other bedrooms.

Review 66:Killin is a nice and picturesque town. The hotel is well located and close to restaurants within walkable distance. Very nice view over the river from our bedroom.

Review 67:Unable to shower all week because the door to the shower fell off on to Jims foot in first room. Relocated to second room but unfortunely there was no hot water in shower . When we examined the bill we have been charged a higher room rate for the second room although it was not our fault we had to change. We were not informed about the increase in rate either.

Review 68:Good central location for what we wanted to do. Staff very pleasant. Hotel was nice.

Review 69:free wifi was very poor, no hot water in room, poor lighting in room, lack of sleep due to constant doors banging and lift noise, breakfast was good but very minimal for cost of hotel, freeview worked one day out of four,

Review 70:the location and scenery was great, food was good and rooms were lovely

Review 71:The staff were all really nice, especially one lady(I'm sorry I didn't get her name) she was a member of the breakfast staff. She was very friendly and chatted to us and my 2 year old daughter. She made us feel very welcome and is a real credit to the hotel. She did all that while working hard serving the tables and ensuring all was running smoothly. The breakfast itself was very nice. The hotel maybe a little bit tired in areas but it has everything that you need for an enjoyable stay. Our room was nice and had great views of the hills and river and the bed was very comfortable. The conservatory was a really nice area to relax in. The hotel is in a good location for touring the Loch Tay area or further afield. It is right next to the river and you can stroll into the village which has shops and pubs.

Review 72:The front desk staff were not as knowledgeable as they really should. They had to ask a local how to help us on simple things! Also not a hotel you should stay in if you have pet allergies.

Review 73:The restaurant staff were superb. Friendly and very responsive and proactive. Food was good, restaurant was well set out. The Bar staff were also extremely friendly and always willing to help even with local knowledge.

Review 74:Could feel springs through the matress in places. Generally, the fixtures and fittings would benefit from some upgrading.

Review 75:Great location. Friendly & helpful staff. Local walks. Several other places to eat in the village. Bedroom (#25) was not large but was adequate.

Review 76:The general public were allowed to frequent all areas of the hotel with no specific areas reserved for residents. Unsupervised children were allowed to 'run riot' much to the annoyance of other guests

Review 77:Spaciousness of the site with plenty of seating areas. Good menu with a high quality of presentation and cooking.

Review 78:The memory foam mattress made the bed cosy and welcoming to get into, but left me with back problems for days after. Another night in that bed would have left me with mobility issues.

Review 79:I loved everything about it (except the mattress).

Review 80:Almost non-existent Wi-Fi reception; poor lighting in bedroom; very thin pillows; plastic cups in bathroom; no wardrobe; dark colour scheme in bedroom; below average breakfast; overpriced.

Review 81:The pub down the road.

Review 82:Be careful!!! Wi-Fi available in the conservatory only. It's nottrue what you are finding on booking.com description but at thereception you will be told what I wrote. It will be too late. You canfind it on the official hotel's website. This one says clearly - Wi-Fi in the conservatory only. After making a complaint I was offered 1.5hour extra stay - after 2 nights - wow. Finally £20 which is 5.8%discount. Even booking's representative contacted hotel to discussthis compensation and this is what I received from them: "We havecontacted the accommodation and have kindly requested that they makeanother offer to you but unfortunately they are not willing to". Ihave ordered a bottle of champagne at the arrival. It was in the roombut not even one glass included. The attitude to a customer - horrible.

Review 83:Very nice area.

Review 84:Poor room, poor quality bed, poor breakfast. Dreadful bathroom, good job we are of average weight and height or we wouldn't have got in the shower. Pleasant staff.

Review 85:Not much. Good position of hotel. Staff pleasant. Evening meal in the bar, very nice. Reasonable prices and quality.

Review 86:There was dog hair noted on the bedspread and the sofa. The actual bedding was clean but we felt uncomfortable after noting the pet hair present.

Review 87:Good breakfast and very close to the activity shop where you could hire bikes and kayaks.

Review 88:Outside the windows of my mother room was an old Land Rover and un-cared for drive. Some hotels in the UK tend to have an 'it will do' attitude and don't make the extra effort on some areas, knowing the location they are in will still bring in the guest.

Review 89:Location and the staff were very helpful and could not do enough for my disabled mother and sister. The problem was the beds/bedrooms failed to accommodate disabled people, not the staffs fault and I could not thank them enough for their efforts to assist mother

Review 90:room 35 more suited to a single room not anything like any room advertised on booking website. you cannot access the bed from both sides so if you require to get up during the night you disturb your partner. the shower does not regulate so its third degree burns or frostbite the mixer did not work so a bath wasn't an option I appreciate we only stayed for two nights but the room wasn't serviced in brief great downstairs not so good upstairs

Review 91:location of hotel is ideal food in restaurant very good

Review 92:The room was small and we felt we were in the servants quarters. Theshower head wouldn't stay upright and it was crooked on the wall. The toilet bowl was askew and the toilet seat was loose. The floorlooked stained. Not good.

Review 93:Staff were pleasant, beds were comfortable. Food was good.

Review 94:WiFi did not work in the room, but worked OK in the conservatory. Dinner at the pub was expensive and the quality was a bit disappointing.

Review 95:The hotel was set near the loch in a pretty village. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was exactly what we expected a room in an older hotel to be. It was great to be able to sit in the conservatory at the back of the hotel and overlook the loch. Breakfast was quite good.

Review 96:Fire alarm at 2am with no explanation, then repeated different alarm upstairs from 3am. Bar food and beer were disappointing.

Review 97:Breakfast was good, riverside location very good, convenient location in centre of village with plenty of parking.

Review 98:Hotel website indicates rooms 'represent excellent quality and value' - in our experience the room we were allocated was tatty and in need of complete renovation - the floor of the bathroom was discoloured and the shower head needed replacing. Wifi was virtually unobtainable throughout the hotel.

Review 99:Friendly staff, good location for mountain climbing around the area.

Review 100:Nothing although would have liked wifi in the bedroom

Review 101:The staff were lovely, hotel and room beautiful and had a lovely feel to it. Had an evening meal in the conservatory, very nice indeed. Breakfast was excellent and the lady serving was so nice and helpful

Review 102:Midweek bar noise went on well beyond 11pm Room 15 had a loud drip by the window from 20 foot above. It had to Cover my ear to sleep. Floodlight at the window seemed minor by comparison.

Review 103:Nice firm bed Breakfast Good bath and shower Fair sized towels

Review 104:Food overpriced, poor selection.breakfast selection also very poor , had to ask to replace items that had been finished for sometime.

Review 105:Hotel has a delightful location , we requested annex ,room is bigger than most of the hotel rooms.

Review 106:The need , as indicated in the hotel book to run water for 10 mins before it was hot. Cold showers are not what you expect from a hotel. The room was scruffy with chipped paint and and toilet was cramped . The breakfast was very basic lack of fresh fruit and decent bread . Why do hotels still only supply sweet yoghurt at breakfast ? ( we did not have the cooked breakfast so that may well have been fine)

Review 107:There was nothing I could complain about. All aspects of our stay were spot on!I didn't like the fact that we had to leave for the next leg of our trip!

Review 108:Everything about this hotel was perfect. The Killin Hotel is in a lovely spot. The views are wonderful. We were taken care of as valued guests and the hosts were attentive, our room was perfect and had everything we would have wished for.The breakfast was delicious, hot and plentiful.I wished we had booked for more nights but we were moving on daily and our remaining nights were already booked. We had the room with the four poster bed for a special touch of luxury.Breakfast was served in the conservatory by the river,a nice touch!

Review 109:Mobile and wifi signals were poor. Coffee at breakfast was tasteless and disappointing.

Review 110:Despite having booked a small double room, it was pleasantly larger than expected, with nice added touches. Gluten free bread was available on request at breakfast. An early check in was available.

Review 111:My view is that whilst the room was comfortable I think the room rate was fairly high for the hotel.

Review 112:Lounge, bar restaurant food and breakfast were excellent.

Review 113:pillows on bed a nightmare couldnt sleep .food a complete and utter letdown,ie £14 for lamb madras portion appalling especially the rice .made me very annoyed and let down ..fish and chips total nightmare .white fish with no taste at all in batter frozen chips cold mushy pees not at all enjoyable..breakfast .ham thick and unappealing like a cheap gammon steak cold beans not even the choice of mushrooms .no decaf teas.no bottled water in rooms or biscuits as a added touch.would expect alot better for the look of this hotel and the standard it is trying to portray to customers.

Review 114:lovely view condition of the room a good standard staff very nice and cleaniness of the room not a problem

Review 115:On arrIval no help offered by staff to use the lift and as I was a solo traveller it was extremely difficult to open the door wedge it with my foot, open the two metal gates with one hand whilst getting my bag and suitcase into the lift with my other hand ... Throughout this the staff member said nothing just watched me

Review 116:Hotel very clean,breakfast wonderful

Review 117:We had wifi in our room but we might have been lucky because it was written on the booklet that wifi is only available in the lounge area. Facilities are quite old but in good condition.

Review 118:Beautiful village with a few walks available. Big screen TV.

Review 119:'Inovative' state of repair. Could do with some TLC. Annoying floodlight pointing direct at bedroom window. Wifi is pathetic and poorly configured (I coould easily fix that for them)

Review 120:Reasonable price compared to others in the area. Good bar. Basic breakfast offering, mostly self service - keeps the price down.

Review 121:The wifi coverage was good in the downstairs lounge but not in the bedrooms. That was not a significant inconvenience to us, however.

Review 122:Excellent food. Comfortable room. Good view over the river.

Review 123:Breakfast was disappointing, in that tinned fruit available looked as if it had been there for weeks. Fresh fruit was well passed its sell by date. Tea was cold and stewed. Shower was freezing in the morning, and despite running the hot water tap in the wash basin as instructed on a notice in the room no hot water

Review 124:The location was lovely

Review 125:I would suggest that the hotel should make clear that only well behaved pets are allowed to stay. We were disturbed by a dog barking, howling and scraping on the inside of the hotel room door.

Review 126:the hotel is within easy walking distance to some walks and boat hire.

Review 127:The hot water wasn't working the day I was there, this was fine for me as I was happy to have a cool shower.

Review 128:They accommodated me-it was hard to find accommodation for one. Plus the room rate was reduced & was an absolute bargain. They stored my bike securely. lovely food & friendly staff. Room was comfortable & clean. Beautiful area.

Review 129:The small room (< 100sq ft) and the shower was awkward to get into. More like a staff room than a guest room. The wifi was intermittent. Tiny TV.

Review 130:The Breakfast was excellent.

Review 131:Our room was in the new annex. The TV reception was very poor.

Review 132:The location and the helpfulness of the hotel staff, especially their kindness to small children.

Review 133:Although some parts of the hotel are a little tired and outdated it wouldn't stop me from booking again

Review 134:fantastic location, great setting next to the river.staff very helpful and friendly. great breakfast

Review 135:Had to wait over 5 minutes twice for someone to check us in and then deal with a query later. No bell to ring and alert anyone. Could hear every word the people in the next bedroom were saying.

Review 136:Location

Review 137:Breakfast was not to my liking, mass produced and not at all tasty, big let down but for the money we paid we cant really complain.

Review 138:Lovely friendly hotel in a lovely friendly wee town. Room was small but comfortable. Excellent value for money.

Review 139:We got a cheap last minute value deal so weren't expecting too much but were very impressed. The room was nicely (maybe recently) decorated and had everything you'd need. The breakfast was substantial and delicious-great bacon, wanted more potato cakes! Lovely little town and great views from room overlooking the river.
