Reviews for Grand Hôtel de Castres

Review 1:That there was no bar and bistro was closed due to being out of season (Dec)

Review 2:The room and the flexable breakfast and the free coffees. Convenient parking

Review 3:Staff need a higher profile.

Review 4:Very central, free parking & neat tidy room with clean modern bathroom. Rapid responsive lift. Great view across the river over the rooftops.

Review 5:the City was very Quiet in the evening, we had expectet more live with peoble at cafe's.

Review 6:Lovely Big and modern designed room with view to the Canal. Confortabel bed. The hotel is in the middle of the City, there is good restaurants and lovely market near the hotel.

Review 7:We had an end bedroom which may have accounted for the patchy wifi. Having said that the terrace that we had overlooking the river more than made up for the fact I couldnt access Twitter!

Review 8:I loved this hotel. It is very modern but that means everthing is of a high quality. Breakfast was of a high standard and it was very enjoyable sitting on the terrace.

Review 9:There was a very limited stock of drinks in the bar. Basically just wine and bottled beer.

Review 10:Brilliant location. Ask for a river view room. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The French breakfast was good value. The town was very quiet out of season and so evening meals were not on offer but it was win easy walking distance of bars and restaurants

Review 11:WiFi did not work in either of our rooms.

Review 12:Great location in delightful old market town with good bars and restaurants. Good view over the river. Excellent breakfast. Also walking distance to rugby ground.

Review 13:It would be great if therewas a kettle in the room to make a cup of coffee or tea.

Review 14:Location with view over the river & short stroll to the square. Free parking

Review 15:Manager was an "interesting" character and somewhat more intense that the rest of his staff. Corridors and some parts of the hotel were a bit gloomy but the rooms very airy. Didn't quite understand if the bar was a bar, lounge or if it was in use though?

Review 16:Rooms were excellent, plain, clean and plenty of facilities. Beds were lovely and big and lovely big duvet and pillow. Staff at breakfast very friendly, helpful and kept the coffee coming! Shame that on the weekend of my visit it didn't stop raining so couldn't use the terrace overlooking the river which I am sure would be a great spot.

Review 17:WiFi doesn't reach to all rooms. Give me an egg for breakfast (you can give me all the fantastic brioche and croissants, great coffee and excellent service too but without an egg, it doesn't feel like breakfast). Don't lock the hotel at 14:00 in the afternoon, employ some extra staff for goodness sake. The patron is humourless and awkward making you feel unwelcome.

Review 18:Greeting, room comfort and decor, shower, breakfast, friendliness of staff and central location.

Review 19:The fact most French hotels charge an expensive amount for breakfast. If you must have breakfast go to the local cafe, it will be at least half the price.

Review 20:Excellent location in centre of town in which everything is within 10 mins walking distance

Review 21:No complaints at all!

Review 22:French hotels are usually dead at night. Management opened the bar after midnight for the visiting rugby supporters from Leinster - a rare entrepreneurial experience! Rooms were excellent and staff were helpful and friendly. The location could not be better, overlooking the river and central to shops and sites of interest.

Review 23:The room was small but had a good sized bathroom

Review 24:The room we were given had balcony overlooking the river. We had avery good breakfast again sitting out n a balcony over the river

Review 25:Everything is grey, to the point of being dull and oppressive Lounge area lacked comfortable chairs - all areas were with high tables and seemed "hard", not helped by the austere dark colours. Even the entrance is two huge heavy grey doors with no windows in them.

Review 26:High quality fittings View over river Terrace on riverside

Review 27:Although wifi is offered for free to customers, wifi doesn't work at rooms and in practice at the whole building. Breakfast is a bit poor and expensive.

Review 28:Goods installations and the riverside location.

Review 29:Breakfast was OK in quality, but did not match the Price.

Review 30:Parking in front of the hotel for free. Beautiful room with river view and balcony. All nice and newly renovated. Only few steps from citycentre.

Review 31:Having to leave after spending four glorious nights there !

Review 32:We had a Magnificent View from the Balcony of the Medieval Tanners Houses opposite us on the River Agout. The location is next door to the Goya Museum and the Bishop's Formal Palace Gardens laid out by Le Notre. Place Jean Jaures the other side where the Markets are held most days. Free Parking at the Hotel for guests. Quiet Tranquil Accomodation with Marvellous Comfortable beds (like sleeping on a cloud) excellent pre-set Air Con. Spacious and Practical Shower Room with Complimentart "Pastale" Blue Soaps and Shower Cream. Charming Bi-Lingual Owners.

Review 33:monastic decoration,no heating in bathroom

Review 34:location, calm, very clean, beautiful view on the river

Review 36:Staff pleasant and helpful. Comfortable room, flexible times for breakfast, useful after travelling at unsociable times.

Review 37:Good breakfast.

Review 38:All was fine.

Review 39:Beautiful room with great bathroom and balcony.

Review 40:impossible to access internet

Review 41:the beautiful minimalist decor was splendid excellent sushi restaurant next door

Review 42:Room was large and comfortable, aircon and bed fantastic, terrific view of river and town. Breakfast was tailored to our needs. Staff really nice.

Review 43:Unstable free WIFI, an underwhelming breakfast for the price.

Review 44:The View, the Room and location.

Review 45:Wifi signal didn't work in my room

Review 46:Sharp clean modern room and bathroom. Great central location. Lovely views over the river

Review 47:Parking arrangements are not so good.

Review 48:Hotel location and comfort.

Review 49:Check in slow

Review 50:Central location. Old building with contemporary style. Friendly staff.

Review 51:That we could not stay for a few more nights.

Review 52:Le Patron was extremely helpful and contributed to a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Review 53:some information about the town was lacking, car parking was a bit trickey

Review 54:location, perfect for exploring the town

Review 55:Relaxed environment with good and friendly service. Pleasant room overlooking the river and close to town centre amenities.

Review 56:A little expensive, weak breakfast

Review 57:Very beautiful view from window, Fast check-in, Free parking, speedy Wi-Fi

Review 58:Very dark decor, not particularly welcoming, very poor to absolutely nowi-fi although advertised as throughout the Hotel, when my husbandsearched the Hotel to see if this could be improved he couldn't findanyone? The suite we stayed in was very basic and over priced with anunworkable study/office space and no tea or coffee makingfacilities; the owner did offer us coffee in the morning as we wereleaving. The shower cubicle leaked all over the floor as the glass doorsdo not meet in the middle.

Review 59:The location was great and the lady owner/manager was delightfulhelpful and friendly. Comfy bed.

Review 60:Excellent modern hotel in an old style building on the river and right next door to the Goya museum and neighbouring gardens. Very comfortable, quiet and clean room overlooking the river. Breakfast was very good and both accommodation and food were very good value. The centre of Castres has a number of good restaurants to choose form and is very pleasant to stroll around. One of our favourite places from our short tour.

Review 61:Hotel is modern, but in an old building right in the centre of town, by the river. Room was large and beautifully furnished, with a great view of the river. We had dinner in the restaurant. Food was excellent, and not too expensive.

Review 62:Parking was a little awkward.

Review 63:We liked the location. The hotel was very smart & modern. The beds were very comfortable & the airconditioning worked perfectly

Review 64:Nothing

Review 65:I enjoyed everything about the hotel but I especially liked the spacious room overlooking the river and also the location of the hotel is superb.

Review 66:Nothing to dislike.

Review 67:Everything !!! Superb/ Classy Hotel, The interior Decor and Design Features Exellent,Large open Log Fire in the Lounge Area. The Owners/ Reception staff very friendly and acommodating, asked for room overlooking river prior to trip, a lovely clean, fresh room with a very comfy bed and linen.

Review 68:There were past reviews that mentioned the WiFi situation. And althoughthe WiFi is lacking, I certainly wouldn't let that stand in the wayof staying at this "Grand Hotel".

Review 69:My mother and I stayed at the Grand Hotel this past week while visitingmy son who is completing an internship in Castres. We arrived in theevening after a long day of travel and we were tired. What a wonderful place to arrive! The staff was welcoming and the room was immaculate! From the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out, we were treated wonderfully. The staff spoke English which was so helpful as I do not speak French. The beds were so comfortable. The breakfast included every morning was delicious. Any questions about the town were welcomed and answered. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Review 70:Like most of France, finding something to eat on a Sunday in Castres is a challenge.....the hotel restaurant is closed!

Review 71:I have travelled widely but rarely have I stayed in a hotel where the owners gave such an excellent service. They really made you feel welcome and nothing was too much.

Review 72:Poor wi-fi

Review 73:Wonderful refurbishment. Superb design features. Family run.Friendly advice. Location on riverside 200 metres from town square. Real good value

Review 74:Really pleasant and helpful staff. Superb food, classy rooms, brilliant position in centre of Castres, right next to the river and a short walk to the square. Would go back again tomorrow and recommend to anyone.

Review 75:It was very hard to find the hotel. We passed it twice and then parkedat the door without realising it. The name is carved into the wall andtoo high to see from the car, and the view of it on the confirmationsheet show it from the river! Not helpful

Review 76:Everything, one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in

Review 77:Bistro closed at weekend so hotel went a bit dead at night. There was no information in the room about the hotel or the city which would have been helpful.

Review 78:design of the hotel was superb and location on the river was great. Room very comfortable and relaxing. Breakfasts were good especially on the riverside terrace with friendly staff.

Review 79:The hotel has recently been renovated to high standards. Rooms are very tastefully appointed, simply and with good quality furnishings. Rooms are sound proofed. Great views over the river. The owner is very friendly.

Review 80:Slow, limited to one device Wifi. Shower head not on wall. Not much breakfast to speak of.

Review 81:I loved the modern decor and the nice little town surrounding. The staff were really nice. The view from the even numbered rooms is adorable, some of those rooms have balconies.

Review 82:Room heating was difficult to regulate.

Review 83:Modern and comfortable. Interesting views along the river. Light and airy room. Under 1 minute walk to Goya Museum.

Review 84:I really had no complaints, but in terms of room for improvement, the biggest annoyance was the wi-fi. While it was free, it seemed that there was only one user name assigned to each room. The two of us had to connect in turn. Not a big problem for us, but could be so for others who needed more access. We also noticed that when we were in our room at the far end of the hotel, the connection did seem to drop out rather too often. Coverage in the public areas downstairs was solid & consistent. The restaurant was not open at the weekend, and there only seemed to be wine available, no beer or spirits. Again not a problem for us, as the town centre was so close by, but may be an issue for some. However, none of these issues could be considered as complaints. If I was ever back in Castres I would make the Grand Hotel my first choice and would be happy to recommend it to friends.

Review 85:Clean, well maintained hotel with very friendly staff. Centrally located in Castres, very near the Goya museum and only a short walk from the town square with plenty of food and drink options. Our room was spacious and was to the rear of the hotel, looking over the river. This is the side of the hotel that appears on most of the websites. There are only a couple of parking spaces, but they are free, unlike some other hotels. Because the streets in the old town are so narrow, the parking is doubled up, so be prepared to leave your keys at reception so the car can be moved if necessary.

Review 86:The staff are fantastic here. There was a train strike on our last day but they organised transport back to the airport for us with no hassle. I would highly recommend this hotel as the customer service we received was exceptional.

Review 87:Minor details really but no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms (Although if you ask, you will be given) And the bistro is closed on the weekend.

Review 88:What a great hotel. Super rooms and a credit to this family run business. The owners go the extra mile and are really welcoming and helpful. Modern interior with a friendly atmosphere. Very highly recommended.

Review 89:Trendy hotel in the heart of Castres - big smile from Madamme on arrival (ahe should teach her husband to smile a little too - he would be surprised with the positive effect this can have) - a smart trendy hotel that should never disappoint.

Review 90:nothing

Review 98:Nice rooms and great bathrooms

Review 99:More breakfast options
