Reviews for Budget Lodge
Review 1:Arrived at 8 pm Sunday following Boxing Day - no staff there at all and push-button phone-line at door failed to work so went in... tried phone number on booking confirmation but just voicemail so left a message; then knocked on downstairs door - found it occupied by guests like us who advised to go upstairs and find a suitable room with a key in the door!! There was a choice of just 2, one fitted what we had booked. Next morning cleaner was there, at least. She apologised for management and then asked for cash payment which we had not been warned was expected - even worse, she wouldn't/couldn't give us a receipt but promised one would be sent by e-mail! I am still waiting... I worry that I gave cash to unknown woman in hallway with vacuum cleaner and no proof we had paid!
Review 2:The room itself was fine though bathroom needed some attention from handyman and bedside lamp didn't work.
Review 3:Budget Lodge provided us with a lovely room in the heart of Alnwick. The room was clean and well furnished. I feel that the place sells its self short by calling its self 'Budget Lodge' as I would be happy to have paid more to stay here.
Review 4:Parking arrangements - unsafe wall. Insecure shower with lack of good water pressure No regulation of heating in room - too hot and could not open window
Review 5:Friendly and helpful manageress who managed to fix various problems. Proximity of excellent Indian restaurant
Review 6:Pretty noisy in the morning & our heating wasn't working well - fortunately it wasn't too cold. Having a flimsy lock on bedroom door also strange as downstairs door always open. Not sure is this is fully adhering to fire regs.
Review 7:I was relieved with what I found after all the bad reviews. You pay for what you get. It was clean. It was great not to pay extra for a dog. Am sure cheapest in Alnwick!
Review 8:Front door Lodge did not have a lock which was very concerning for security as no staff on site. Couldn't get a reply from owner when tried to contact them by phone and power pump for shower for other rooms was in our bathroom which was extremely noisy. Noisy enough to wake us us from sleep in a panic as to where the noise was coming from.
Review 9:Friendly housekeeper. Attractive room. Deep bath. Comfy bed.
Review 10:Ruth was meant to come and see us and never did we waited for an hour when we arrived came back before dinner and then 45 mins. Wifi intermittent. Beds were uncomfortable
Review 11:Location was great central for amenities. Also car parking.
Review 12:Nothing not to like.
Review 13:Central location. Comfy bed. Quiet area. Friendly lady who let us in. Working mens club 1minute away which was cosy, friendly and cheap
Review 14:It would have been handy if we had a bath, with having small kids with us. Also maybe a little expensive, with it being just the room.
Review 15:The ladies I spoke to were lovely and extremely friendly and helpful. The bed was amazingly comfy!! And it was so quiet considering how close we were to the Main Street
Review 16:the only thing that we could fault with out stay is the heating. When we came back at night, the heating was usualy very hot however after ringing the manager, she came over and turned it off. THis only happened on one occation.
Review 17:The manager was really lovely, she was very helpful in telling us where to eat and giving us ideas on what to do during the day. The rooms were very clean and as we were the first guessed to aqrrive we could chose our rooms which was really nice becuase were could have two rooms next to eachother
Review 18:Kids fold out beds were missing slates and we're somewhat uncomfortable to say the least. floor space with beds out is sparce.
Review 19:value for money - yes " at 80 per night for a family of 4, in the center of town = good value. just fix the beds please.
Review 20:Very kind and helpful staff (ask for room 1 if you need a room on the ground floor). The room was nice, comfy and warm. There was off street parking and was a great location for walking to the Castle and around Alnwick.
Review 21:Did not see any member of staff, all communication via intercom.
Review 22:Beds were an excellent size, comfortable and bedding freshly laundered. The room was warm. The location was quiet but well located for access to the town centre.
Review 23:Great location which is the only thing going for it. When we booked the ad said '24-Hour Front DeskShared Lounge/TV Area of which there was neither. You enter an empty small area and that is it. We got lost trying to find it and I had the phone number which is how we checked in as I was told the directions together with our room number, key was in the lock. The original ad also stated it was 450 yards from the castle which it is not & why we got lost ... it is a good 10 minute walk away. A previous reviewer commented on the 2 singles pushed together which is what we had and it meant during the night we both rolled into the middle of the bed into a sort of 'crash'. Room could do with a 'deep clean' someone's dried soap scum from a previous bath was still there so I stuck to the shower. Dirt around skirting boards/loo. As previous reviewers stated building is not secure. Front door could do with a yale lock and guests given a key, anyone can get in and doors to rooms not very strong. What worried me is that there is no information on who to contact in an emergency, there is no fire escape upstairs and the 'big' front window in our room didn't open open so if there was an emergency I hoped the fire brigade would arrive quickly, thank goodness we were only there for a couple of nights but it did affect my sleep. Even the basic of B&B's have details of local chemist/doctor etc and details of how to contact the owner. Loud noise coming from a boiler was a bit worrying and heating comes on a timer which you can't control and there are no thermostats on the rads so it can be cold then when the heating comes on it can be very hot and there is nothing you can do. Parking at the back by the unsafe wall - at your own risk - (as previous reviewers mentioned) is in fact the wall of the property and it does look in a very poor state. If you are having paying guests surely you would sort that out?
Review 24:locaction
Review 25:Dirty. I've found hair all over The sheets, there was a tick on the armchair, the toilet seat was dirty. It's not a hotel. You have to talk to an intercom and the person says your room is ready. The owner appears to receive the money. The parking is a yard with a sign that says that the wall is unstable and you can parkbyour car at your own risk.
Review 26:Close to The City centre
Review 27:Twin room with two 2 foot single beds, the most uncomfortable beds we have ever tried to sleep in. Plaster on the walls is full of holes, the TV was barely clinging to the wall and was a hazard, bathroom though wiped clean had mould round the shower cubicle. The old single glazed sash window was broken and we had no control over the heating, not ideal when temperatures were around zero!
Review 28:Friendly staff and a great location.
Review 29:We were forced to pay cash, did not receive a receipt which is ratherstrange with booking.com hotels. The name of the place "lodge"is absolutely misleading. It is an accommodation in one of the poorestareas I've ever been. Parking is in a dirty backyard. Roominsulation is poor. For good luck the room beside ours was not occupiedthat night.
Review 30:Cleanlyness of room and shower/toilet.
Review 31:Bed was very soft. Room was cold, had to put on jumpers when sitting around. Water pressure in the shower on a morning was very low. Smell of damp in the room. Car parking available, but precariously next to an unstable wall. Security issue concerning permanently open back door and locks on room doors not particularly strong. Walls and ceilings are thin so can hear guests in other rooms when moving around.
Review 32:Excellent location, definitely in the middle of town. Large room and bed. Free wifi, tea and coffee making facilities. Clean.
Review 33:I had booked a twin room by mistake. I was advised there were no other rooms available but the twin room on the ground floor was vacant all night.
Review 34:Close to all the amenities and Ruth was lovely.
Review 35:Entrance not inviting. No lock to outside door. Flimsy lock to bedroom so not that secure. Would not call this budget as for an extra twenty pounds per couple our B And B in sea houses provided comfortable seats in the room, a huge breakfast and a guests sitting area. Secure locks! This B and B has been done on the cheap and will soon need work to ensure guests are satisfied. The bed sags in the middle and the shower and taps flimsy.
Review 36:Convenient for alnwick town and castle
Review 37:Excellent customer service the lady could not have been nicer. Excellent value for money. Great sized room with en-suit and an excellent location (literally few minutes walk to Alnwick town centre)
Review 38:No one greeted me at all, directed to room by telephone. No one available to pay in the morning. Broken window panes, broken shower head. No security, entrance door open all night.
Review 39:Nothing at all.
Review 40:Booked this room due to our pre booked one with another company was closed on arrival. On arrival, the staff were fantastic towards us especially as this was a last minute booking. I would certainly recommend this and would stay there again.
Review 41:The room wasn't as expected. dulex flamily room should cater for 2 adults 2 children. I was expecting a king size bed, with a single, and a zed bed as stated in email. dust so thick, definitely hasn't been cleaned for at least 6 months, pubes on bed cover, shower, skirting boards even coffee tray. mirror not been cleaned for god knows how long. yes if you want a £70 per night stay with family, you have come to the wrong place. bed and breakfast plenty in town of Alnwick for a family for an extra £10. please don't rush going to this place, unless you like a dirty smelly room. lady that owns it needs glasses, very rude moment you mention dust/dirt!
Review 42:The place is very difficult to find as the street is not recognised bythe sat-nav and there is only a very small signage on the front door. This isn't actually a B&B or a hotel, more like a big housewith 3 rooms that people rent for the night... No staff on premises atall and the back door is left unlocked at all time. We had to ask theTourism Office where this place was and we were lucky as the caretaker(?) saw us arriving and ran from across the road to take us to ourroom. Please be also aware that this is a cash only place, theywon't take card payment. We didn't have cash so the caretaker(?) told us to leave the money in the desk drawer when we left, withthe key to the room on the door....... But, saying that, it was a niceenough room for the money and location so apart from the securitything, I'd say it was good.
Review 43:Great bed, very comfortable. Quiet room on the second floor. There was asmall yard at the back where we could park the car, although this wasvery small and a bit tricky to get in/out of when other cars werethere too. Big tv screen and en-suite bathroom.
Review 44:Didn't find it straight away. "Unstable wall" at side of lodge made me think about parking car elsewhere
Review 45:It really shouldn't be called budget lodge. It exceed our expectations. Shower and bath en suite in our room.
Review 46:Bed is bad. I cannot sleep well because the bed is not good Shower was leaked and low water pressure. The hotel was difficult to find because not enough sign or hotel name board
Review 47:Location is very good, close to city center and many restaurants surrounding. Near to Almwick Castle. The castle is amazing !!!
Review 48:Bathroom not overly clean. Only 1 teabag provided (booked 2 nights). Will be cold in winter - no double glazing. Steep stairs to carry luggage up.
Review 49:Friendly owner. Great location, walking distance for everything in Alnwick.
Review 50:We couldn't open the window during the night and it was very warm. There was left over tea in the teapot from a prevoius guest. Had issues with the shower. A number of long dark hairs were found on the bed.
Review 51:Location and helpfulness of staff.
Review 52:The check-in and check-out could have been a little better. We had to leave early and due to there being no-one there we had to leave the cash in the room and hope for the best. Communication is done by leaving a message on a mobile answering machine. Some two way conversation is always better.
Review 53:The location and the price and the friendliness of the staff. The room although basic had everything we needed and was clean and all the facilities worked efficiently. For the money, it was great, but obviously not five star.
Review 54:The folding beds and maybe the surroundings, the street.
Review 55:The problem with the above questions is that not one answer is applicable. There was a very comfortble, huge, twin bed and two very uncomfortabel folding beds. We booked a family room. If the standard is 'would I go there again?' the answer is no. But this does not mean that for a couple (or a couple with very young children) and for one night, this is good enough. The woman who received us was friendly. She does not live on the premises. A bit businesslike, but as I said, for one night....The street is quiet (and hard to find on our tomtom), and looks a bit bleak. No trees, flowers, colours, or anything. No breakfast, just the room with TV and a shower/toilet. Clean. Walking distance to the main street. Not many restaurants to be found. We had Chinese, which was also fine but not good.
Review 56:The bed was two twins pushed together I'm a big lady I was either falling through the middle or slipping of the other side we found it hard to contact anyone we where only given an inside door key and didn't know if the outside door would be left open we tried ringing the bell no ans we knocked on several doors no one knew who was in charge
Review 57:It was near the town centre
Review 58:Bed really soft Very noisy street outside the window and could hear other guests in their rooms very hard to sleep Window wouldn't stay open and was cracked.
Review 59:Staff very friendly Walking distance to town Room nicely decorated
Review 60:As per another reviewer - the water pump in the bathroom was v noisy, luckily no one used the shower v late or early so not a real problem. There's only 3 rooms (soon to be 4) so chances are good that it won't be disturbing.
Review 61:Excellent location; clean and comfortable; helpful house keeper who cheerily put in 2 folding beds for the kids cos I'd got the booking wrong; good value for money
Review 62:no one there to greet us on arrival, had to press an intercom and got told just to go inside our room was ready and they would meet us in our room
Review 63:very comfortable bed, nice tidy room and big ensuite
Review 64:Hard to find - needs bigger sign! Saturday night noise from the street Water pump in our bathroom for another room Loose tap
Review 65:Convenient Cheap Helpful staff
Review 66:Everything was rather wonky, from taps that swivelled to wobbly power points, some of which didn't work and the mattresses were too soft.
Review 67:The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
Review 68:Couldn't make shower work, or open window,or use the basin when plugjammed. Parking not available because of unsafe wall. Very hard to find! One bedside lamp had no powerpoint! Booked 3 nights, stayed only one.
Review 69:Free wifi. Hospitality tray.
Review 70:Room was a little cold (not the best July on record though) would have been nice to have the option of turning heating on
Review 71:Location: Perfect for everything Parking: reasonable amount of room & seemed secure Staff: we requested early arrival due to wedding commitments, they went out of their way to accommodate us and even went back into our room to tidy up again for our return - couldn't fault them - very cheerful & friendly Free wifi: Always a great perk
Review 72:The hotel obviously needs renovation. There was a bathtub in the room but was of no use because the plug had been ripiped off and missing. The carpet smelt musty and was the habitat of minute insects. The keyhole was broken. A lot of worries about security and safety.
Review 73:Clean basic but comfortable room with all the things we needed- shower/toilet en suite, tv, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Location was good and near to the castle and town centre.
Review 74:The property smelt of cigarette smoke, we both came away with bites of some sort. The pictures don't match the description and I won't every book a non rated hotel again! Not sure how it managed to get on Booking.com
Review 75:The location l of budget lodge is good!
Review 76:The bed didn't feel clean and was two singles pushed together rather than a double bed.
Review 77:The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating.

Review 95:Very welcoming and trusting reception. Close to town centre and eating places for dinner and breakfast.
Review 96:Limited car park space - Not a bad point, just to let others know :)
Review 97:Comfy Bed Great Location Lovely lady who checked us in and out
Review 98:Very clean and comfortable great for our one night stop over
Review 99:The bed was a bit on the soft side
Review 100:Brilliant location, lovely host and clean spacous room and bathroom.
Review 101:The windows wouldn't open and the sink wouldn't empty
Review 102:Near to town
Review 103:No parking no Wi-Fi no confort
Review 104:Lack of Wi-Fi is a mess. The bed is really not confortable and the challenge for the parking is really hard.
Review 105:Nothing!
Review 106:Very friendly, beautiful room.
Review 107:Everything
Review 108:Nothing
Review 109:Could make it easier to identify the building.
Review 110:Dog friendly. Very close to town centre.
Review 111:No heating and no one to contact to turn it on. Being cold woke me up and I could not get back to sleep so got up and left ^am
