Reviews for Chic'o Rail
Review 1:The food did'nt seem as good as before but that could have just been a one off after all it was still eaten up also my fav beer St omer black label is not available but the draught version is OK
Review 2:The upgraded car park is far better and the bedrooms at the front are much quieter now the bus station as been moved further away . Our room 16 appears to have been renovated all for the better
Review 3:Very steep stairs. We were in the attic. Dinner although fairly good was very expensive. Not a good hotel for elderly people owing to the very steep staircase.
Review 4:Free parking and free Wi Fi. Will not stay in any hotel that charges for either.
Review 5:Simple room on top floor with only a view of the sky. Slightly faded and worn stairways in contrast to the delightful restaurant
Review 6:Great location with private parking. Excellent restaurant which is very up to date and well appointed.
Review 7:Dog owner's paradise, staff were very flexible and welcoming. Super restaurant on site, good bar and nice green spaces for dog walks around the hotel.
Review 8:Could hear people moving around in the room above us. Could hear young people outside shouting etc after a night out, on their way home.
Review 9:Clean, comfortable room. Excellent restaurant menu. Only 15-20 min walk into St Omer itself.
Review 10:We have travelled throughout France extensivlely for the past 13 years. Our experience of the Chico-Rail Hotel ranks in the top ten of all the dozens of hotels that we have stayed at during this period. We would throroughly recommend it to other travellers.
Review 11:Only issue was the bathroom was at the bottom of the bed with a glass sliding door with a large hole for the handle, not a lot of privacy in the bathroom.
Review 12:Great hotel right next to train station with free parking and wifi. Comfy bed and friendly staff. Basic but perfect just to sleep and explore the area.
Review 13:Bathroom could have used an update Bed un-sprung (might just have been mine). Wi-fi signal was weak and slow.
Review 14:Easy to get to and good parking facilities Provided an extra 3rd room (free !!) instead of one pair sharing !! - guess they weren't full - awesome. Good restaurant and bar. Friendly, multilingual staff. Fantastic value.
Review 15:Restaurant guests took most of parking. We were not advised to book and restaurant was fully booked. Had to drive into town to get food. No wifi
Review 16:Free parking
Review 17:Room was in the attic and from a safety point of view there was no escape on the event of a fire. Reception area, stairway and rooms were very tired and grubby.
Review 18:Restaurant and bar area were nice and modern and breakfast was nice
Review 19:We couldn't find the hotel and were greeted with an answerphone when we tried to make contact. The room was unbearably hot. This was anticipated as a large fan was supplied. The carpet on the second flight of stairs was threadbare and my husband tripped and fell. We had a meal outside. The ground was uneven and it caused our table to tip and our drinks were spilled. It took some time to get it cleared up and then we were not offered any bread or condiments with our meal.
Review 20:The bed was large and comfortable and it was easy to access the free WiFi.
Review 21:Dirty glass, bathroom too tiny, breakfast was very poor - stewed coffee, fruit basket had black bananas and stale fruit - would not stay there again.
Review 22:Clean bed
Review 23:Interior is well worn especially the stairs which are also quite steep (warning if you have problems with stairs might be useful before booking). Saint Omer itself felt a bit rundown like the station next to the hotel.
Review 24:Cheap place to stay for a visit to nearby la Coupole. Basic but friendly with a simple breakfast with excellent fresh French bread.
Review 25:No air conditioning or lift and it was the hottest day of the year and we were on the top floor with two kids wasn't great but only because we arrived at 1am. We had requested a cot bed but they only had one and it was taken
Review 26:Lovely modern hotel, nice decor, decent size rooms, easy to find, restaurant and breakfast looked really nice but didn't have time to try. Excellent value for money. A handy stop over after Euro tunnel and travelling further south.
Review 27:Reception area and stairs etc seemed run down, poor first impression. Bathroom was so small we could barely move in it despite having paid a premium for better quality room.
Review 28:Good restaurant and friendly staff.
Review 29:Whilst the room was clean it was particularly small. OK for the 2 nights we stayed but not sure we would have wanted to stay longer in such a confined space.
Review 30:The staff were super helpful & friendly and food in restaurant very good.
Review 31:The corridors were looking really tired, the carpets worn and paintwork badly scuffed. It really is in need of new decoration.
Review 32:The restaurant was lovely and the staff are wonderful!
Review 33:It was very hot and it was difficult to sleep on the top floor under the mansard roof. A long way from the Grand' Place.
Review 34:Good car park, good restaurant
Review 35:We enjoyed our stay at this hotel which was peaceful. Plenty of room in the hotel car park. Enjoyed drinks and dinner in the restaurant which was very good. Breakfast was good too. The hotel is walkable to the main square. The staff were very friendly and polite and made us feel welcome
Review 36:Loud music being played nearby until about 5 am. Drunks shouting and singing in the street until the same time. Nasty smell of drains from the shower
Review 37:Food was very good and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and polite.
Review 38:It was a great little get away for a night to re-charge are battery's, the staff were very helpful evening meal was very reasonable and breakfast more then you would expect. lovely little town with some quirky shops and nice little bars to watch the world go by will visit again soon.
Review 39:The only slight problem was the shower room was a bit cramped
Review 40:The food was excellent I had snail cassoulet, followed by a huge lump of beef on a sizzling hot-plate. too much for me so my friends helped me out. Lots of locals who know a good place.
Review 41:worn, grubby, old tired small bathroom/toilet with poor door, drain & cooking smells, no staff in the building when checking in or out (key left out on desk).
Review 42:No one available on arrival. Shower light behind sliding door. No shelf or table on one side of the bed.
Review 43:Good size bedroom and shower. Interesting dinner menu.
Review 44:Bed broke and there was noone around to talk to about it until 6pm, but it was fixed quickly once we reported it
Review 45:Nice decor. Nice restaurant - lovely food. Small bathroom but nice decor. It was nicer than the Ibis we usually stay in and cheaper too. We'll definitely go back
Review 46:Slight smell of drains from sink. Toilet situated too close to wall.
Review 47:Location and ease of parking. Excellent restaurant. Lovely staff. Great value for money. Nice shower.
Review 48:Could have done with better pillows on the bed - although the bed was comfortable. Bathroom very cramped but functional.
Review 49:Nice bar area and restaurant. Great food in restaurant with a varied and reasonably priced menu. Breakfast (at 7 Euros each) was good value and pleasantly served WiFi was excellent. Basic tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Much improved car parking and access since last time we stayed.
Review 50:the room and bathroom was small and we couldnt open the window so the room was hot. However there is a fan but in the summer this might be more of an issue.
Review 51:The decor, great restaurant , parking all very simple and convenient
Review 52:The train station is nearby. Not an issue for me as I got back to sleep quickly.
Review 53:Very close to the town centre. Breakfast was excellent.. I would return to the hotel.
Review 54:Nice clean comfortable room. Friendly helpful staff several of whom spoke English. I wondered if the proximity of the railway would make it noisy, but we hardly noticed it. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Would definitely return and recommend to others.
Review 55:A bit out of town, but this is only an observation; we knew that when we booked
Review 56:Booked this place for the good price and certainly not disappointed. Is located in a converted building that was something to do with the railway, in the approaches to St Omer station. Staff pleasant and welcoming, and were offered breakfast for €7. Take them up on it! For two a whole fresh baguette and more butter, jam etc than you can shake a stick at. Unlimited coffee/tea as well. Used the brasserie for evening meal, and were not disappointed. Chic, and whilst not in the "poshest" of areas, a number of locals were using the brasserie, that speaks volumes.
Review 57:That hall carpet. Ignore that and the place is fabulous its clean just old.
Review 58:Stylish nice hotel handy for the station. Excellent bar and food. Very nice place to stay.
Review 59:Bathrooms very small, but clean and hot water. Some of the decor (stair carpets) need replacing.
Review 60:We stayed at Chic o rail en route from Calais to the Alps. The rooms were great with views over the square to the old station building next door. The restaurant was good with a range of pizzas and all the usual. Compared to hotels in Calais at a similar price it wins hands down! Clean rooms comfy beds, en suite and free wi fi.
Review 61:Corridors and stairwells are shabby and need re-decorating. Steep stairs and no elevator.
Review 62:Nice restaurant / bar. Clean and functional room. Pleasant staff.
Review 63:Everything. Had rm14 on first floor. Very well designed, everything spotlessly clean. Good wifi, lovely bathroom. Breakfast at €7 was generous. We ate dinner in the resto - 3 courses for €16.50. Bargain! Would definitely stay again. Parked our camper (and two dogs) with bike on back in car park, no problems. Car park does get full with diners after 7:30, so arrive early.
Review 64:The parking was not very secure which was a bit of an issue with a motorbike. The whole building could do with a makeover. OK for a stopover.
Review 65:Stopover to Calais. Stayed in comfort double room. Was ok but not spectacular. Quite close to town we walked in for a look around. Food in the restaurant was ok. The shower was awesome.
Review 66:It was very hot in the upper rooms - The weather was around 29 degrees in the day so possibly to be expected but lack of air con was noticible. However a large fan was provided in the room so not too much of a problem.
Review 67:Very easy to find with ample parking right next to the beautiful old station building. Train line was not busy at all so was not kept up all night by trains. Great little bar and good continential brekfast and all for a great price.
Review 68:Nothing springs to mind, oh, apart from no hot tub in the room
Review 69:Not a bad location really, it's a pleasant walk to the main square. Probably about 10/15 mins. Parking facilities fine and a nice outdoor terrace for drinks. Breakfast was all laid out as well. Very good
Review 70:the stairs are very steep not very good for older people. nobody there when you arrive key and name is left out. en suite so tiny no good if you are a large person. was not impressed with the food we had. don't think we will go back there again.
Review 71:room very hot window only opened few inches but that was for safety reasons,a fan would be nice.
Review 72:lovely comfy bed basic room but clean.breakfast was nice fresh bread croissants fruit , enough to keep you going
Review 73:Room very basic and shower area dirty and smelly. Beer and spirits expensive. Breakfast very basic, no cereal !!
Review 74:Dining area and food of an evening very good, good location
Review 75:Rooms are compact, but fine for an overnight stop.
Review 76:Superb location overlooking the historic railway station, now even better with the new access and car park. We have stayed regularly and find it to be a perfect stopover point between Calais and the South.
Review 77:Didn't like being up in the attic bedroom with no view. Very steep stairs.
Review 78:Location of the hotel. Food and friendliness of staff.
Review 79:second visit, all as before, enjoyed the stay
Review 80:Very cramped room - very basic
Review 81:Location and food in restaurant
Review 82:Bathroom in room stank of stale water really badly
Review 83:Location was great. Restaurant fantastic
Review 84:Tiny bathroom
Review 85:Cracking location with good parking next to the old style railway station
Review 86:The room smelt strongly of drains, although the room itself was clean enough.
Review 87:Steep stairs - be careful
Review 88:The restaurant is very good and the breakfasts are superb.
Review 89:Staff
Review 90:The room was quite small as was the bathroom.
Review 91:Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 102:Very comfortable, clean, great accommodation, the food was A1 and service was very friendly, would certainly return.
Review 103:Nothing really!
Review 104:Next to a railway station
Review 105:slightly thin walls, you could hear the next door rooms tv
Review 106:easy to find, good pizza as well
Review 107:location was easy to find, not noizy, fast check in , fair price
Review 108:stairs steep
Review 109:Excellent restaurant
Review 110:Décor upstairs a little tired but room very clean
Review 111:Great staff Good food Good value Excellent breakfast
Review 112:Good restaurant in hotel with reasonable prices. Central, but quiet location. Friendly staff. Room was basic, clean and good value for money.
Review 113:Room rather small
Review 114:Price and location
Review 115:Everything,upto usualstandard
Review 116:It was very warm in the bedroom
Review 117:Great food and atmosphere
Review 118:Comfortable, clean and a reasonable distance into town.
Review 119:No tea or coffee-making facilities in room, nor any public machines. Go thirsty or use the bar....
Review 120:Quirkiness - still had atmosphere of old-fashioned station hotel, nut with modern facilities such as huge plug-in fan.
Review 121:Dislike is too strong a word but the stair carpets needed replacing, which was a potential hazard. It all looked a bit scruffy but the room was clean enough. Probably more staff would be needed if the hotel gets more custom. The car park is a bit un-secure - no monitoring that we could see.
Review 122:Convenient to the town and facilities, food good, pleasant staff. Room was tiny but the bed was comfortable.
Review 123:for an elderly person the stairs to the second floor are very steep but manageable with care.
Review 124:easy to find, very friendly staff, good food and overall very good value for the money.
Review 125:I love this hotel! I first stayed here in September 2013 while on a solo cycle trip to Douai, and returned in May 2014 with my father on another cycle trip to Azincourt. It's location makes it a good choice for cyclists going to or from Calais. Quintessentially Gallic, Chic'o Rail is a small but very sweet hotel next to St Omer railway station with an excellent restaurant which gets busy in the evening. The decor is modern and the rooms are spartan, but clean, spacious and comfortable. The area is quiet so you should get a good nights sleep. The centre of St Omer is only 5 or 10 minutes walk away. The staff are helpful and friendly, speak English and tolerated my imperfect French!
Review 126:The room was on the top floor with 2 flights of stairs and no lift. It was extremely hot and no air con. I was unable to sleep easily because the fan was irritating. Food average and service in restaurant slow.
Review 127:Our room keys were ready for collection The staff pleasant and helpful. I was helped with luggage up the stairs by staff. The restaurant was very attractive.
