Reviews for Royal Rochebrune
Review 1:in the bathroom only shampoo and solid soap(of two kinds) were provided. No other toiletries such as shower cap or body cream. also no pen and notebook and no food in the minibar. The room got quite stuffy and hot, so needed to be aired from time to time. The breakfast was ok, but nothing special. As for the location - though superb skiing wise, relatively it was quite a walk (down/up the hill) to the city centre - 8-10 minutes, depends on your pace.if you want to live in the middle of everything consider other options.
Review 2:the location was great since the ski rental shop and Rochebrune ski lift were just a stone throw from the hotel. The hotel itself was nice and clean, rooms warm and cosy. It was also very quiet and the beds were very comfortable.
Review 3:Being woken up early morning by workers around the back car park shovelling the snow away to allow access for the vans and trucks as the building behind the hotel was still being constructed.
Review 4:Location ideal! Right at the base of the Rochbrune telepherique and ESF which made things very easy with our child
Review 5:Very little number of plugs Small bathroom No sound insulation between communicating rooms or between rooms and corridors Parking in location but charged in addition Poor quality furniture Poor and low quality breakfast (even more surprising, knowing that the dinner was really good)
Review 6:Highly appreciated the very nice and kind attitude of the personel. Very good and decent restaurant for dinner
Review 7:The lack of tea/coffee making facilities in bedrooms and the frustration that although there were several HD TV channels on the TV in the bedroom the TV was unable to receive them leaving a very limited choice.
Review 8:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The cosyness of the hotel and the convenient location to both the cable car and to the town.
Review 9:Nothing to complain about. Although in ski season parking might well be a problem
Review 10:The staff from our arrival through to departure were excellent. We understood the Royal is under new ownership, I assume Spanish owners and service is their top priority. Whilst we were the first guests of the season and the season yet to begin, not all facilities were up and running such as the bar. However the manager was happy enough to provide drinks in the lounge area, where in my experience many would not.
Review 11:Our only qualm was that when we were there, late in the season, the hotel bar and restaurant were shut, and reception was unmanned from 9 pm onwards - it could feel like the Marie Celeste at times; however, breakfast was served in our rooms, and the hotel staff were very helpful all the way through.
Review 12:Megeve is a beautiful village, very friendly people, easy 7 min walk from the hotel; the hotel itself is in a great location, bottom of the Rochebrune Lift, where you get your lift passes, easy to get to the slopes, excellent ski hire shop with the hotel, very helpful staff both in the hotel and the shop.
Review 13:Discotheque next door, our room was noisy, heard the music during Saturday night. No ski room, can leave skis with ski store next to hotel. They ski store staff not very friendly. Small room
Review 14:Location is very good.
Review 15:Can't think if anything
Review 16:The hotel is right at the door of the Rochebrune cable car, so no shuttle, no carrying skis so I manage to sneak a day's skiing without any hassle (and the fantastic weather was a bonus). The hotel is well appointed and my bedroom was not only very comfortable but tastefully decorated as an authentic chalet. The place was spotless. The staff could not be more helpful, attentive to my needs and enquiries ( I had never been in Megeve). After travelling I was quite tired and decided to eat in, not expecting too much. But to my great surprise I got a lovely homely French dinner, with efficient smiley service. I shall be back and this time I hope to stay longer. A gem!
Review 17:The staff are superb - charming, friendly and unbelievably helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel is comfortable and spotlessly clean, and to ski virtually to the doorstep was excellent!
Review 18:Hotel car park was not free. A charge of 15 euros per day was charged. The car park has a very low head room and although we managed to get in we had 1cm spare. 4 x 4 vehicles would not be able to access the car park.
Review 19:The food was excellent, the rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly and efficient.
Review 20:Room was tiny and just held two single beds I would have cancelled but we arrived late and was tired The hotel had already debited half the cost so obviously knew that it was poor standard We found a much better hotel at half the price the next day
Review 21:The staff is super, very friendly and will go the extra mile to help in any way they can! The stay was great, with a central location and easy access to the slopes. Very highly recommend this hotel!
Review 22:Room a little too warm, small square pillows.
Review 23:Location, facilities, helpfulness of staff, indoor parking, restaurant for evening meal, breakfast, a very comfortable hotel.
Review 24:Restaurant quality. Breakfast standard. It is possibly the worst restaurant in Megeve. Get another chef and better waiters and better quality food.
Review 25:Location
Review 26:Room was a little small with an over sized bed. Two single beds joined with an uncomfortable 'hole' in the middle. Otherwise bed was very well dressed and staff left the room very tidy every day
Review 27:Staff were very friendly and helpful front front of house to maintenance staff. Excellent staff. Bedrooms kept very tidy and clean by staff. Fresh towels daily
Review 28:Excellent Location
Review 29:The location and helpfulness of the staff.
Review 30:Breakfasts and dinners. Comfortable rooms Near a ski lift
Review 31:Perfect breakfast, lovely people on reception, everything was great!
Review 32:Comfortable place and facilities, warm and welcome staffs. Lovely location wich I would come back again for more.
Review 33:Pretty much everything
Review 34:Breakfast expensive and not that great.
Review 35:Location. Staff. Cleanliness.
Review 36:The wifi kept dropping out
Review 37:Helpful and friendly staff
Review 38:It's a wonderful place. I had a very lovely time staying there. All impressed me so much.
Review 39:We had a suite and it was lovely
Review 40:Easy access to the pistes!
Review 41:Room was to warm.
Review 42:Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 43:Extremely helpful friendly staff ...great location and fab food !!
Review 44:Only a few rooms booked at the time of our stay so we got an upgrade to a better room we originally had booked. Great! Restaurant and breakfast room were closed because of the late season, so we got breakfast served in our room. What a luxury! Friendly staff, we liked our stay!
Review 45:The hotel did not live up to expectation in terms of facilities or comfort. Room size was tiny with little or no hanging up capacity. Picture on booking.com shows a much bigger bedroom. Artificial fire in reception whilst literature shows a roaring log fire. Very naughty.
Review 46:Superb, friendly capable staff
Review 47:Hotel car park is very expensive, though would have benefits during heavy snow and very cold temperatures. There are other options though that the hotel does not promote. Picture on advert is misleading. Hotel is actually located on a junction which can't be seen on the picture, though this is not reallly a disadvantage.
Review 48:Good location to the Rochebrune Cable car, very comfortable beds and adequate space in room, friendly and helpful staff, decor of hotel, food.
Review 49:Nothing
Review 50:Really great staff they could not do enough for you We went half board and the evening meals were very good Location is excellent close to a very good ski hire shop 5 mins walk to the lift and 10 mins to the centra of the village
Review 51:Hotel car park is €20 per day but we found space on the road nearby for the week at no cost. Expensive hotel for room size, etc but this is what you pay to stay in Megève and we would go back.
Review 52:Very friendly staff, good breakfast and great location for the Rochebrune cable car. A short walk to town made it an excellent location
Review 53:On check in we had to pay the balance of our stay up front which I found odd and were confronted by a list of rules rather than a warm welcome. The hotel has seen better days, threadbare carpets etc. the facilities are not great. Noticeable lack of a comfortable lounge area for those days where you cannot ski.
Review 54:The restaurant and cleaning staff were great, very friendly, helpful. The front of desk, less so ,so a real mismatch. The location for skiing was excellent. The breakfasts were very good, food in the evening good but very limited menu for half boarders especially for non meat eaters.
Review 55:Our room was quite dark. There were no lights by or in the wardrobes so it was a guessing game getting clothes out. Also hooks would be helpful to hang up ski jackets etc.
Review 56:fab location. Really friendly staff. Our room was spotless. Fantastic breakfasts. Philipe Sports really helpful
Review 57:Breakfast could and should be improved, especially when it costs 17Euro/person!
Review 58:Excellent location, right next to Rochebrune ski lift, and the distance to the city centre is not more that 10 minutes pleasant walk. Suits are brand new and wonderfull, the main lobby is large and spacious, everything during our stay was super!
Review 59:The only small problem is that the hotel is relatively old, so the reception area (not needed too often) has a low ceiling clearance of only 2m, which is difficult when you are 2m tall!! Also no carafe wine on the menu
Review 60:The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially at dinner. The room was clean, very warm and had everything necessary for a skiing holiday, albeit on the small side. Coming out of the hotel to the ski shop for nice warm boots etc was great, plus the short walk to the lift. Half board is good value
Review 61:Great location very close to the Rochebrune ski lift, and about 5-10 mins walk from town. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast. Clean, comfortable rooms.
Review 62:Rooms a bit small for such a big double bed, would rather have a smallerbed and more room. Also may seem minor but nowhere to hang your ski gear. Balconies should be as described, standing room only.
Review 63:The Resturant Staff made the hotel.
Review 64:Sauna was a bit limited and there are no holds for ski equipment
Review 65:The staff were wonderful and very helpful. You couldnt ask for a better location, up the mountain and right near one of the main lifts. A 5 min walk downhill to town
Review 66:The windows need to be changed to double glazing: Our room was freezing and the windows were drafty. Moisture also accumulated on the window inside and they were dripping wet.The cleaning ladies did not vacuum or mop our bathroom for 2 days in a row.
Review 67:The staff at the reception are all very nice and extremely helpful: The food in the restaurant was good as was the breakfast buffet
Review 68:A bit of a climb from the village on foot in the thin mountain air, but really everything we actually needed was on site.
Review 69:The staff were polite and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent and fantastic value for money on the half board rate. Great proximity to the Rochebrune cable car, Ski Hire Shop and very handy for the free Ski Bus. We had a minor medical emergency right at the end of our stay and the Hotel & staff could not have been more accomodating or caring, we managed to extend our stay with ease and all the staff kept asking if everything was now better! The Hotel transfers from Geneva were first class and good value. Overall I would say a Hotel which appreciates the custom of it's guests!
Review 70:The room we had been allocated was tiny. The hotel public areas like reception and the bar are soulless, playing the most depressing music. The whole atmosphere at the hotel is similar to an old people's home, no atmosphere whatsoever. I probably wouldn't stay again, as would rather somewhere with a bit more life.
Review 71:The rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was excellent.
Review 72:The dinner menu included in the half board can be much improved. Themeats were overcooked & stored in the oven before serving. Thedesserts were all too sweet. Our biggest grouse was a rude &overworked waiter.Room can be brighter with more downlighting. A kettle should be provided (one was sent promptly when we asked). he room can be brighter with more down lights or lamps.
Review 73:The receptionists, particularly Kate, were very friendly, helpful andpatient, making us feel at home & welcomed.Fantastic location. 2 mins walk to the slopes, lifts & free bus shuttle. 10 mins to town. Junior suite number 2 was comfortable, spacious & quiet. Private exit. Can easily accommodate a family of 4. Extra pillows were a bonus. Breakfast buffet was generous.
Review 74:the but is because the room had a very bad smell which was mild when i checked in and got worse and worse, their only soloution was to use a VERY heavy dose of a mandarin spray which wasnt great for my asthma. They neither were able to solve it ( but knew the issue as it was a sewerage problem), nor did they move me to another room. They should never have issued this room ! nor did they even try to make amends or offer me a gesture of something. Just a big knowing smile . i was also disappointed to try to order breakfast in the room on my last day to find it could only be done if ordered the night before ...strange so to answer your next question NO
Review 75:Fantastic location and nice staff but....
Review 76:No views on mountains from first floor
Review 77:Great location next to ski-lifts and short walk from village centre Friendly staff Good breakfast with amazing pastries Very Comfortable junior suite
Review 78:Very nice hotel located next to the lifts and slopes. Also walkingdistance from Megeve main streets. Room was big and charming. Greatbreakfast buffet or room service. Everyone was very welcoming andhelpful during our whole stay. Will recommend this hotel to friends andprobably go back.
Review 79:Paying 20 Euros for car parking; the room was smaller than expected considering we had paid extra for an upgraded room.
Review 80:Excellent location - very close to ski hire shop and ski lift; very good food and friendly staff.
Review 81:Brillaint location - really handy for the lifts. Ski hire shops moments from the hotel. Room was quite small but really cosy and warm, comfortable bed, pleanty of hot water. Staff were all helpful, and provided useful services - like organising my lift pass for me.
Review 82:Level of maintenance very poor, delapidated paint work, holes in carpeting. Run down sanitary equipment. Lack of proper clothes storage in rooms. No (dry) cleaning service. Not cosy hall/reeception area. Hotel website/Bookings website on hotel do not reflect reality. The suggestion is made that hotel is renovated which is untrue. Overall I am happy that I stayed there with my family (we had three rooms). If I recommend it would be subject to these critical notes.
Review 83:Free and easy access Wifi. Good access to ski lift. Very well organized ski rental/sdki service in the hotel building. People were very friendly and helpful. On essential points the good service by staff made up for bad quality of hard ware.
Review 84:Small rooms Need to book time for Sauna
Review 85:Proximity to the slopes (50 m to the telecabin) Close to the center of Megeve village (walking distance) Friendly staff Wide and comfort common spaces (at ground floor) Restaurant area
Review 86:Would have liked hot food at breakfast and a better hotel bar.
Review 87:Excellent location right by tele cabin and you can ski straight backdown to the same tele cabin so tiny distance to carry skis, breakfastwas included and perfectly adequate. Balcony with nice view was anadded bonus
Review 88:Nothing to say
Review 89:Good free internet WiFi available in the entire hotel. Cosy suite junior. Friendly staff. Location close to the slopes and within walking distance to the village's main street and good restaurants.
Review 90:We thought the breakfast was expensive Sometimes there was a long wait for dinner,we thought the staff were a bit stretched Cups at breakfast were too small-only really hold half a cup
Review 91:The best thing was walking out of the back of the hotel to the ski shop who had our skiis ready and boots warmed and then a few steps up to the Rochebrune telecabine which gives access to most of Megeve Also could ski back to the hotel easily The bedroom was nice and warm in spite of outside being -20 and very cosy.bed comfortable etc Very good value for money and would definitely stay there again
Review 92:They were not there when we arrived at the airport, had nearly a 2hour wait to be picked up! The breakfast was fairly expensive (17euros) and even though it was a good breakfast I dont think it wasworth that price.
Review 93:It was a really nice hotel, with good facilities and very helpfulstaff (especially Peter), and ideally located for the ski slopes. Theproblem we had with the transfer (see negative comments) was sortedvery quickly.
Review 94:the sauna was not really, very easily available.
Review 95:The location of the hotel for skiing and access to the town was spectacular. With dining choices, ski equipment choices all right there, and also being close the the gondola, it was the right choice for a winter ski trip. As with most Euorpean hotels the basic room is smaller, but the value for that was great. I would highly recommend this hotel to families, single groups and leisure travelers.
Review 96:It was a bit of a bun fight at breakfast. The food was nice, just a faffto get it and sort out seating.
Review 97:It was the only hotel offering a short stay in advance that was in agood location. They were booked to collect us from the airport but mixedup the time so weren't there. This meant a 90 minute delay for us butthey happily offered to pick up our rather large bar tab which they didat the end of our stay with no complaint. The staff were friendly andhelpful, the rooms very comfortable if a little snug. Plenty of hotwater at any time of the day.
Review 98:Tea and Coffee in the room would have been nice however this was available from the bar. An information package in the room about the hotel and local area would have helped however this was more than made up for by the check in staff who helped with all of our questions in fluent English (and a host of other languages).
Review 99:The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful from arrival to departure. The room was excellent value for money, comfortable and inviting and warm following a day on the slopes. The location across the road from the telephrique and the ski storage make it eminently suitable for easy skiing especially with a bar/cafe being adjacent to the lift for morning coffee before starting skiing and a beer at the end of the day. The Royal Rochbrune is less than an easy 10 minute walk from the centre of Megeve which is a wonderful old fashioned resort with lots of beautiful buildings and a host of cafe's, restaurants and bars not frequented by the 18/30 brigade and is suitable for people with young families who would like a relaxing time. The underground parking, ease of access, attitude of the staff and comfort of the room made the trip very pleasurable. We shall be staying again next year.
Review 100:Water temperature in shower tends to spike hot and cold
Review 101:Great location near the ski lifts . Good breakfast and dinner.
Review 102:External appearance and lobby a bit shabby
Review 103:Restaurant/bar area great, breakfast good, location near Rochebrune lift handy, suite fitout first rate
Review 104:Very basic hotel with little amenities and après ski activities.
Review 105:Proximity to slopes
Review 106:No after ski events, a 10 min walk from the town. The rooms are small.
Review 107:Closest hotel to the slopes, easy access, clean and quiet.
Review 108:Very Friendly staff specially at the restaurant.
Review 109:Room was too warm
Review 110:Location food and helpful staff
Review 111:Small sauna for exra charge, standart room is rather small.
Review 112:Great location, nice and friendly staff, good food, WiFi in the room.
Review 113:It is expensive for what it is.
Review 114:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location. Good choice at breakfast.
Review 115:The bedroom and bathroom were very small with nowhere to hang our ski suits.
Review 116:Staff we're very friendly. Very close to the cable car.
Review 117:Very small room. No air ventilation and room very hot.
Review 118:Location to ski lifts, friendly staff.
Review 119:Liked it all
Review 120:The friendly staff The location The food The room On site ski rental shop (really great)
Review 121:the hairdryer!
Review 122:Great hotel, wide choise for breakfast, really lovely staff.
Review 123:Lots of steps to ski lift from hotel ski hire.terrible 1970s sauna.very dated bedrooms.quite a hike into ttown . would not stay again!
