Reviews for Dragonfly Hotel Bury St Edmunds
Review 1:Channels 3 ( ITV) on TV didn't work, also bathroom ceiling requires attention. General upgrade / refurbishment of hotel would be beneficial
Review 2:Staff greeting upon arrival and departure was very professional
Review 3:Food was terrible, room was dirty. No bath towels, when you ask for things in towels and iron I had to go up a second time in both occasions as they had forgotten
Review 4:Nothing, it's the worste hotel I have ever stayed in
Review 5:Breakfast could be warmer and having a double room should have two chairs
Review 6:Staff good location good all though near motorway not noisy choice of breakfast good ample car parking and room had all you could need for a short stay
Review 7:Evening meal not so good had Fish and Chips would not recommend. cardboard fish and hard thin chips did not eat them. My husbands meal was ok.
Review 8:The beds very comfy Staff excellent
Review 9:The bed was really poor with a big dip in the mattress and it was very noisy to sleep on subsequently little sleep too expensive not value for money
Review 10:Staff friendly Room clean
Review 11:Restaurant was poor. Tables were sticky. Milk sour. Not sure if this is part of Marston's group, but it was not up to the usual standard. Shower pressure was feeble.
Review 12:Friendly helpful staff. Convenient location.
Review 13:Lack of disabled facilities I asked for an easy access room as I have severe walking difficulties and I was given a room a long way from Reception, up two flights of stairs. I was then given a room on the ground floor but it was just as far away and I still had steps to negotiate. There were some closer rooms but they were not offered to me. It would be impossible for a person who is reliant on a wheelchair to access the rooms. To be fair the girl on reception did her best and even carried my bags for me.
Review 14:The staff
Review 15:Extractor fan in bathroom was very noisy and carpet in room didn't look very clean.
Review 16:Staff were very accommodating and friendly - we asked for early check in which was no problem.
Review 17:The room smelt of smoke. The window couldn't be left open as it wasn't secure- too close to ground despite being first floor. There were unpleasant stains on the carpet and wall. The bed was a standard double but the duvet was a king size so we were ' overwhelmed' with duvet in an already hot room.
Review 18:It was good location for our needs. The bathroom was clean.
Review 19:room was very dated bed was well worn in and there was not enough tea/coffee/milk to make more than one cup of tea the whole hotel has not changed since the last time I stayed 12 years ago and breakfast was not value for money it was basic to say the least
Review 20:The staff were brilliant and very helpful. we have stayed here numerous times the last time a total disaster no bar cold shower said we would never stay again seen it had been taken over and was pleasantly surprised so will definately be back.
Review 21:At the price paid (£104) did not represent good value for money. Cooked breakfast choice poor. No food available (room service) for late arrival
Review 22:Helpful reception staff
Review 23:The heating in our room was up so high and would not turn down. It was a cold evening outside but we had to sleep with the window open as room temp was unbearable. Meant we did not have a comfortable sleep.
Review 24:Nice location, friendly staff, adequate room.
Review 25:Stayed for 2 nights room not cleaned in that time my sons room had no tv no wifi we were put on first floor there was no lift so had to lift baby with pushchair
Review 26:Just look at the stealth bomber picture in the bar, maybe need a new cleaner? Would have helped if our room had been ready instead of walking into a used room from the previous guess.
Review 27:Staff very helpful and friendly
Review 28:Too near the A14 couldn't sleep with window open. Showers was either too hot or too cold
Review 29:It was cosy with friendly staff.it helped making a lovely stay for a couple of days for the Xmas market
Review 30:Cold plates at breakfast. No fresh eggs available. Could not pay bill on prev. evening to save time next am. Sticky tables. Room at far end of long corridor despite hotel almost empty. Difficult to find tel. No.--fault of booking.com
Review 31:Location
Review 32:room was disgusting, carpet not hoovered, bathroom caked in hairs. Vile! Very dated & chipped furniture.
Review 33:Acommodating staff were helpful with my dietry issues & offered another room as first 2 were unsuitable.
Review 34:the only thing we were disappointed with was we were not informed there was a private function on the Saturday night and the restaurant would be closed early when we came back to eat. however after I complained that they had not told us they did cook us some food.
Review 35:food was nice. staff were helpful .
Review 36:Our original room was awful! TV did not work, a bedside lamp had blown and the room was cramped and road noise was noticeable. We were given a much better room but mainly because of the TV not working.
Review 37:Staff were friendly and mostly helpful
Review 38:It feels tired and neglected and has started to feel more like a low budget motel rather than hotel. Feels like everyone has given up on the hotel a little and stopped bothering about appearance or upkeep. Bulbs were blown in room, radiators were switched off so room was cold, plastics looked yellow with age and in need of replacing, although still functional.
Review 39:Proximity to both A14 and Bury centre is good. As a basic hotel offering basic services it ticks the boxes.
Review 40:The restaurant. Ordered a chicken pie. Waited ONE HOUR for it to arrive and when it did it was served still in its foil tray! Saw the waitress make the gravy by putting gravy granules in a jug and topping it up with hot water from the coffee machine.
Review 41:Great WiFi. Reasonable location - just over a mile to Bury restaurants.
Review 42:bed was so unsupportive and matress was completely finished. spent the night on the floor and ended up complaining and getting my money back. hotel does not have an owner at present and they know some of the matresses need renewing but because the great british public dont complain, then they get away with it. Thats until I come along...I am not the complaining type but was looking forward to a good nights sleep and didnt get it.
Review 43:nice staff
Review 44:This Hotel is dated and past its best. I have stayed here beforeand despite a change of ownership it is going downhill. Whilstthere were plenty of staff it would have been nice if they wouldhave paid attention to the needs of their customers instead ofstanding around talking
Review 45:Bed was very soft. Maybe old. Pillow was like a brick and there was only one. No choice of bath. Unable to open window. Trees within 10ft so no view at all.
Review 46:Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel looking a little tired.
Review 47:Miserable staff. Np pleasantries exchanges during stay. Evening meal served cold and no apology. Hot breakfast consists of beans and toast if vegetarian. No mushrooms or tomatoes. Dirty sricky tables in restaurant. At over £85 stay was poor VFM
Review 48:It was easy to get out of the car park. ...
Review 49:No hot water at 5pm when I took a shower, I reported this and there was no improvement in the morning..!! Upon checkout I reported it again and there was a boiler fault.... Shame..
Review 50:There was nothing I liked enough to report here..
Review 51:Hotel a little tired and in need of refurbishment, expensive for what it was.
Review 52:Brilliant friendly staff, I came on a motorcycle not an everyday occurrence but they did everything they could to help park my bike in a safe location and keep an eye on it overnight, outstanding service.
Review 53:Limited breakfast choice, Inadequate bar seating area. Shower cleaning on second day was poor. No shower shelf for shower gel etc.
Review 54:Nice, convenient and quiet location. Room mix up dealt with sympatheticly. Comfortable bed.
Review 55:room key card had to be replace three times before we could get in...web site asked us for a check in time...hotel said not before two...although we badgered them into finding us a room as we were very tired
Review 56:Lovely bed, facilities adequate
Review 57:Split level accomodation blocks significant number of staircases. No lifts consequently taking luggage to/from the accomodation was pain and would be beyond elderly and/or disabled patrons
Review 58:The staf encountered were all friendly and helpful
Review 59:Long wait for evening meal due to staff shortage.fan in the bathroom very noisy, had to turn light off to stop the dreadful sound.
Review 60:Girl on reception very helpful and pleasant. She seemed to be doing all the work behind the bar waiting on tables.
Review 61:Requested an early get in as we were attending a wedding and needed to change- had to wait an hour so changed in the toilets. No soap or shampoo in the room.
Review 62:Breakfast not too bad but expensive for what it was. Cot provided on request but no sheet for it
Review 63:The powdered scrambled egg mix at breakfast let the breakfast down. Note for the management: please use real eggs for breakfast.
Review 64:Staff we're very welcoming and helpful. My partner has food allergies and despite not having been advised before our stay the staff did their best to sort some food out. On second morning a full breakfast was cooked to order. Room was good size and despite being close to A14 the location was pretty quiet.
Review 65:At first we had a room with no WiFi, a non functioning light and no heating. Evening meal not good enough to make us eat there again.
Review 66:Convenient location and comfy room. Extremely helpful and friendly staff, who sorted our initial room problem efficiently.
Review 67:The shower leaked which did cause a puddle in bathroom. There are no phones in the rooms so if you want to speak to reception or if they need to get you then that's a walk to the front desk and vice versa. The cooked breakfast was basic.
Review 68:Clean rooms, comfy bed and friendly staff. Three star hotel that is everything we needed for a one night stay.
Review 69:Breakfast left out to help yourself cold and rubbery. Staff didn't speak and cleaned out drinks machine just when you wanted a cuppa - not impressed.
Review 70:Nice welcome and comfy room. Great late night bar.
Review 71:A double room was booked in advance but was changed to a twin without notification to us.. There was only coffee,/ tea toast and marmalade for breakfast one morning as advised the ordered supplies had failed to arrive.
Review 72:The evening meal was very good-most enjoyable.
Review 73:The mattress didn't fit the size of the bed base I stayed an extra couple of days & all my stuff was put in a room they thought I had checked out & left all my stuff the communication between the staff was poor if I ever go back to bury St Edmunds I will give the hotel a big miss
Review 74:It was close to the job I was working at
Review 75:The bed in room 220 was not up to standard. When we pulled up the sheet we found the mattress and base was worn and ripped in places. Albeit the bathroom was large and light, a shelf would have been useful in the shower.Maybe a handle to stop slipping also. We didn't like the trees out-side the window and thought the lighting wasn't adequate enough.
Review 76:An evening meal and breakfast we had was excellent .The food was good and well cooked and the service was first class. Bedding and towels very clean.
Review 77:Yes the net curtains had holes, but for the money I certainly wasn't expecting perfection and 4 star. Tap a bit wobbly, but it was workable.
Review 78:Staff very friendly and accommodating. Free car park a bonus. Value for money. Would certainly go back
Review 79:The price was high for the accommodation on offer. The place needs revamping. It was OK but not worth the money.
Review 80:Good location - easy to get into Bury St Edmunds
Review 81:No telephone No wifi Breakfast appalling, no choice other than scrabble egg, cold greasy bacon. First morning no butter. Second morning, no butter, no milk (told would have to wait for tesco to open ) and no bread in basket. Just disgraceful. Breakfast costs were refunded.
Review 82:Staff did there best in difficult circumstances
Review 83:Poor lighting in Bedroom. Cold in room - would not expect heating in August but bank holiday weekend was grotty Hotel was tired and badly in need of a facelift and updating - found it very depressing to be honest and did not want to spend any time in the room or hotel A Travelodge charges less for the same sort of facilities - paid over £65 and this is not include breakfast!!! Restaurant smelt of sour milk so glad in some ways no breakfast.
Review 84:Room was clean and bed OK.
Review 85:Bed was the best so comfortable think I need that mattre§s in my life would have liked fried egg at breakfast or poached as dnt like scrambled but not the end of the world would put sign outside of gates as could miss and would paint windows and conservatory gloss work in nice burgundy to make more welcoming looking bit tired but overall would use again ☺
Review 86:We didn't like the noise from the very close main road. Neither did we like the breakfast which was poor.
Review 87:The location is good - a short walk to the town centre through the delightful Abbey Gardens
Review 88:Breakfast was not good. Hot food was tepid and had obviously been out for a while. Only one member of staff on duty for several customers.
Review 89:Location was suitable for occasion I was attending.
Review 90:no jams/marmalades at breakfast on sunday or monday no real atmosphere - not tempted to spend any time in bar, for example no leisure facilities
Review 91:comfortable if basic room very convenient location
Review 92:It was really hot in the room and there was no way to get the window open wide enough to get any air. As a result we had a very poor night's sleep. The hotel is tired and it needs a great deal of money spent on it to upgrade it.
Review 93:It is what it says on the tin. It is very reliable and we have used the hotel before because of its position and accessibility.
Review 94:The hotel is very dated and needs a large amount of investment to bring it up to standards expected by today's travellers. Review sites give people opportunities to make judgements before booking and management shouldn't rely on friendliness of staff to be a long term draw.
Review 95:The staff were friendly, helpful and gave the impression that they were happy to be there.
Review 96:There was only one chair in the double room and only one bedside cabinet. The position of the bed made it difficult to get in and out of the bed on one side. If the bed had been moved over it would have enabled easy access and room for another cabinet. We suggest your details of the room need to be updated on the website as there were items no longer included in the room.
Review 97:The room was clean but lacking certain items (see across). Breakfast was value for money.
Review 98:meal menu was limited and although well cooked and presented was mostly cold. Price did not include breakfast
Review 99:rooms are comfortable clean and well appointed . Free wi fi is excellent and staff are outstanding-they cant do enough for you
Review 100:Hard to find initially - signing could be a little more prominent. Breakfast - definitely not worth the additional £8 pp.
Review 101:Good location from the A14, and for the city centre via a very pleasant set of footpaths.
Review 102:Disappointing breakfast, not much choice. Reported problem with undercooked croissants which in fairness, were taken away but not replaced. However, they were presented in the same condition the next day.
Review 103:Comfortable, spacious room, very pleasant staff, efficient check in/out process, large well-lit car park.
Review 104:Poor service in restaurant even thoughwewere the only diners. Bedroom was misssing headboard and bedside table (they had been unbolted)
Review 105:Hotel was very quiet although very neara major road
Review 106:I didnt have any bad experience at all. Went into Town on Saturday evening and the taxi driver told us that the hotel had a bad reputation. We didnt find much cause for complaint - The paintwork on the groundfloor looked somewhat "tired" and the food wasnt fantastic, typical "catering pack" stuff that could have been improved a little with a little inspired tweaking. Oh, and there were one or two little marks on our bedroom carpet. Bit of traffic-noise, but not bad, especially for the convenience of the motorway within spitting distance
Review 107:I liked the location, bright and breezy and only a minute from the A14; easy to find. A convenient walk to the city centre. The staff members were pleasant and mostly attentive. I thought the room and bathroom cleanliness were exceptional
Review 108:Building looks a little tired. 'Front' of the hotel is at the back of the property. Overpriced at £70 room only for one night. Located right on A14 so easy to find but quite a long walk into town.
Review 109:comfortable bed, approachable staff
Review 110:Woken up by noisy people arriving in nearby room at about half past one in the morning - there was intermittent noise until about 4 am. I don't blame the staff, but it would be nice to make the building more soundproof especially the bathroom ventilator fans.
Review 111:Welcoming and helpful staff
Review 112:...for breakfast... fruit salad was nearly fermenting one day, no butter another day, no yoghurt another. Bit of cleaning and decor in public areas would spruce it up.
Review 113:Nice friendly staff. Easy parking and good walking access to Bury St Edmunds. Good value. Breakfast was generous, toaster excellent but...
Review 114:Bathroom a little tired, and shower didn't drain away quickly so you were paddling for a bit!
Review 115:Staff very friendly and helpful, Rooms bright and clean with adequate space.
Review 116:A little traffic noise from A14. Breakfast was fine, but not tempted by the dinner menu!
Review 117:Good location for us in familiar territory. Would use again if visiting the area.
Review 118:Room dated bathroom sink and toilet had damage rust around bath taps. Staff need training to value there guests. Not value for price charged.
Review 119:Room clean.
Review 120:Room key didn't work and noise from the A14 traffic meant I had to close the window which on a warm night, was not great for sleep.
Review 121:Good value for a one night stay
Review 122:Water in shower not very hot Bed not comfortable (and very small - basic double) No air con - was a warm night and no fans were available either
Review 123:Nice location and overall a pleasant place
Review 124:The building needs a bit of a refurb in places but it's kept clean and tidy.
Review 125:The staff make this hotel, from the minute we arrived we were made welcome and were very well looked after.
Review 126:needs complete refurb. no keys to any rooms, had to ask staff to let us in our rooms any time we needed to go to them.dusty everywhere especially the bar area.
Review 127:close to our venue
Review 128:Water turned down too low for the shower to have more than a dribble. A two minute shower took me ten minutes. Extraction fan ( as in most hotels ) is useless. You ask not to leave the door open because the steam effects the alarms. The fan runs and makes a lot of noise but has no effect and the mirror steams up..
Review 129:Location was perfect for our visit to friends and family. The hotel is close to the motorway but not too noisy in the room.
Review 130:the bar toilets where not clean the hotel needed a good clean
Review 131:Staff where friendly and very helpful breakfast was great nice selection. great atmosphere . overall great
Review 132:We checked in around 10 pm Friday, when we went for breakfast next morning they had us down as a no show, same on Sunday when we checked out. No real ale in the bar despite being half a mile from one of the best breweries in the country.
Review 133:Location, easy to find and get to.
Review 134:The bed were a little hard but I don't mind that as I have a back problem.quite a lot of stairs.
Review 135:Overall we had a pleasant stay . We did not see very much as we were out very early each morning of our stay.but the staff was very helpful and I would use this hotel again.
Review 136:I phoned 2 days before my night was booked as there was a possibility I might have to cancel. I was told this wouldn't be a problem I had up to 12.00 the day of the booking to cancel and not lose any money. I phoned the day before to cancel as my circumstances had changed and was told I would be charged for the room. When asked why I wasn't told the day before I was informed that the person I spoke to didn't know! I thought that I would lose my money but it would be nice if all the staff knew and not give out wrong information.
Review 137:Booked a family room on-line but were given a standard double at check in with the option to pay for another room. Not happy but the girl on reception was excellent and got it sorted.
Review 138:Efficiency of receptionist dealing with hot, tired and irritable guests!
Review 139:Poor signage for the hotel - it is sited adjacent but not visible from a major roundabout and requires being accessed from one exit road. We changed our room after the first night because the heating couldn't be turned off and the toilet flush was irregular. The evening meal we had there was of a poor standard and the breakfast spread was limited. The common bar/lounge/restaurant area was not inviting - the hotel in our view needs significant upgrading.
Review 140:Easy 20 minute walk to city centre. Quiet location just off then highway. Staff helpful.
Review 141:Nothing to comment on not liking, it was a nice stay
Review 142:Friendly staff. Nicely decorated, comfortable beds in quiet rooms. Ideal for a stop over. Great value and I would stay again
Review 143:The first breakfast was not good. I only like fruit for breakfast and there was none. And no jam for any toast.
Review 144:it was very convenient for me. And it was clean and comfortable.
