Reviews for Hostellerie Du Coq D'or

Review 1:You might be a little disappointed when you enter through the bar - a retro one with zinc bar. However, the rooms are delightful, comfortable bed, well-appointed bathroom, and the restaurant was good, great food and excellent wine.

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:Typically French village, very welcoming, lovely facade of building, and renovated to high standard within the keeping of the building. Love to return. Food excellent.

Review 4:Room 1 the gold room fab overlooking the chateau with a balcony , food was excellent as we stayed 2 nights and had something different from the menu each night

Review 5:I would not change anything.

Review 6:Arriving on a Sunday evening, the owner was right there and accommodating. We stayed in the white room, with the golden rooster affixed to our balcony railing and the Castle of Jonzac in full view. The room was spotless and the large shower with multiple heads had incredibly wonderful water pressure. With a remote to control our room's climate, the air-conditioning assisted sound sleep in the comfortable bed. The spacious room and furnishings exceeded our expectations. And breakfast was enjoyable both in the dining room and on the terrace!

Review 7:Not much but poor lighting in the room. Breakfast was a slight let down when everything else was so good

Review 8:Very comfortable and spotlessly clean room with stunning view and quiet despite being on the main street. Charming hard working hosts. Superb dinners both nights of our 2 night stay.

Review 9:Hot water not great the night we stayed for which the owner apologised and reduced our bill.

Review 10:The owner and staff were really helpful and friendly. The hotel was in the beautiful old town centre opposite the chateau. The room was good with excellent bed of a good size. King size?

Review 11:All was good

Review 12:We came to Jonzac to stay as the town is SO close to Leoville to celebrate my brother's 70th birthday. Found your hotel on the web, & am sure we shall be back in the future. A comfortable hotel with excellent food & very friendly staff. THANKYOU

Review 13:Everything about this hotel was great. The owner spoke English and couldn't do enough to make sure that we had a good stay. The room was spotlessly clean and the views and balcony were stunning. The shower was lovely and strong and the room was spacious. If you can, make sure that you eat at the hotel's restaurant - we had the plat de jour (set menu) and the food was the best that I have ever had in France. I loved the hotel.

Review 14:We stayed in this hotel for a 4 night stay. Our room (No.5) was roomy, quiet and had air conditioning. The view from the window overlooked a passageway connecting streets and also rear terraces of houses backing onto the hotel - not an unpleasant site, very interesting to see the architecture and how the buildings have been increased in size over the years. The staff were very friendly and helpful - spoke very good English compared to my pigeon French. The staff made you feel very welcomed. The evening meals were exceptional with either a set price menu or a-la-carte from the main menu. We definitely had some favourites which always turned out fantastic every time. The hotel restaurant is well frequented by the local French residents which is a good indicator for it's high quality standard. Breakfast was french baguette with pastries - pain au chocolate, croissant, pain au raisin and jams - all served with a seriously large cup of coffee or tea. Situated in this hotel, which is overlooked at the front by Le Chateau de Jonzac, you get a very good location to explore the major wine growing area of France around the Gironde. It is also easy to reach the coast and spend some time on the beach. This hotel is exceptional and I would not hesitate recommending it to family and friends.

Review 15:Nothing to dislike!!!

Review 16:Location and feel of the place. Husband and wife staff were very friendly and helpful. The outdoor pavement café life was brilliant and well catered for.

Review 17:Minimalist breakfast, no elevator. Wi-Fi works only on the ground floor, in rooms no way to connect.

Review 18:Nice rooms, very high ceilings, cool old time furniture. The hosts are very helpful, doing all they can to help you.

Review 19:Not much to dislike. The whole stay was good value for money with the possible exception of the breakfast which was a little bit expensive at €10 per person.

Review 20:We liked everything about this hostellerie. The location is super and the welcome and service is very good indeed. The bar area is set out and decorated in an old French cafe style, the bar itself is well worth the visit. The room we had overlooked the street in front of the old chateau but was not noisy. The room was large and comfortable and had all the usual facilities including air-conditioning. The evening meal was excellent and we chose to eat in the very pleasant restaurant area rather than out on the roadside tables. We did, however, have breakfast out the front the following morning, which was typically French and most enjoyable.

Review 21:Breakfast was rather disappointing. The hostelliere closes after midday on Sunday until Tuesday morning and all guests were requested to attend at the same time for breakfast at 08.30 on Monday morning - not ideal when on holiday. Wifi was hit and miss.

Review 22:View of the chateau was wonderful. The people of Jonzac were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the evening meal and drinks outside. It was very relaxed.

Review 23:The tv is poorly connected: my NCIS-program got interrupted over and over again.

Review 24:The staff was very cooperative, the hotel has a nice terrace. Breakfast is ok.

Review 25:Breakfast a bit basic

Review 26:This is a great hotel, very welcoming, elegant lovely rooms, good restaurant food, step back in time to what a good French Cafe used to be.

Review 27:Loved everything, absolutely charming and great food, beer and wine. Rooms are lovely with curtains to die for.

Review 28:It was really beautiful and the food was excellent.

Review 29:Location, friendliness of staff, excellent meal in the restaurant, great breakfast.

Review 30:Location and host. Excellent meals

Review 31:The size an comfort of the room and the wonderful dinner

Review 32:A little taste of French luxury with very accommodating hosts.

Review 33:Spacious and comfortable room with a view on a beautiful square. Very authentic village abs hotel. Very warn staff.

Review 34:The friendly owners , staff and general good quality of comfort and food

Review 35:Couldn't get pass the password on wifi

Review 36:Friendly charm of the proprietor

Review 37:Unpleasant odour of drains permeated the ground floor. No common parts to the hotel - everything outside the bedrooms and bar/restaurant was decrepit. Over-concentration on historic appearance meant few electric sockets, inadequate lighting.

Review 38:This is a restaurant with rooms in a historic building next to the chateau. The bedroom was deliberately old-fashioned, generously-sized, large bed, large old-fashioned bathroom with a real bath. Eating was in the bar downstairs, where we were nearly the only diners. Dinner OK, breakfast was bread and sweet stuff only (good coffee). Staff very friendly and carried our luggage upstairs without prompting.

Review 39:This is a great hotel, Alex is an excellent host very welcoming, collects bags from car and delivers to your bedroom. Very pleasant sitting outside enjoying a drink watching the world go by. Very interesting menu and good selection of wines and delicious food. Lovely Blue room with very good large walk in shower, very comfortable bed, good breakfast. Highly recommended

Review 40:The towels were very worn and bath towel even had a large hole in it. Itwas not replaced even though I left the towel with the hole clearly onshow. Hand held shower only - no overhead fixture.

Review 41:Quiet. Clean. Convenient. Good, polite service.

Review 42:nothing special, maybe just mini-bar in the room missing

Review 43:Very nice and quiet hotel facing the pretty castle of Jonzac and very kind staff, very clean and big rooms, breakfast outside when weather allows it, just nice!

Review 44:The place is a wonderful stay. The owner Alex was very warm and accommodating. His English is superb (some of the staff are a little uncomfortable with English and thus a little quiet and may at first appear non responsive - but they are very friendly and helpful. The view of the chateau is great and the quiet street in the evenin and burgeoning shop district is quant. Recommend for a nice quiet city break - a country feel with some culture! Not for those that like the big hustle!

Review 45:Very friendly staff Excellent Restaurant reasonably priced Large elegant room with opening doors onto small balcony Splendid views onto the chateau

Review 46:Lack of drink facilities in room

Review 47:Food, ambiance and location

Review 48:Breakfast was basic but dinner superb. Room lovely.

Review 49:nothing

Review 50:Great location, really good food and friendly staff. This was our second stay and we will definitely stay again

Review 51:In the room ,there is no hair dryer.

Review 52:Everything. We would definitely stay again.

Review 53:Excellent in every way, and the food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is certainly par excellence

Review 54:Nonthing

Review 55:Very good restaurant

Review 56:Excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, easy to park, beautifully renovated

Review 57:charming rooms good restaurant stylish

Review 58:Very clean and nice accommodation and a good restaurant .

Review 59:Superb location just across the road from the Chateaux. Staff were friendly & helpful. One of the best places we stayed at

Review 60:Great location opposite the castle.Very good sized room. Extremely clean. Very obliging manager.
