Reviews for Hotel Saint Louis

Review 1:Very thin walls meant we were kept awake most of night by noisy couple next door. Meal in restaurant was poor by most French standards.

Review 2:Very good value, clean bathroom and easy to find.

Review 3:Our room was extremely comfortable and well furnished; the bathroom was excellent. Private car parking was appreciated, the breakfast was good (but a little expensive) and the hotel is an easy walk to town.

Review 4:parking price is not wanted, breakfast price too much & drink prices way over the top for that type of hotel.

Review 5:hotel was clean & pleasant, staff welcoming, diner good.

Review 6:The whole hotel had a musty smell, carpets were worn, the room was tired, ie wardrobes scuffed, tired carpets, micro thin toilet paper. The breakfast was expensive and very minimal, the croissants were stale and the coffeenwas weak. Car parking expensive

Review 7:Location was good for the town centre

Review 8:the location the breakfast was better this year we have stayed here on at least 10 occasions & they have put back the start of breakfast on a Sunday to 8.00, which is inconvenient for us

Review 9:Nothing.

Review 10:Very helpful owners. Property is centrally located and has good off-street parking. The restaurant is excellent, with many seldom seen little extras. The room was quiet and contained all required facilities. A great place to stay in an interesting area.

Review 11:Bathroom dated ,this is just an observation NOT a complaint

Review 12:The warm welcome from David and his good lady ,the food the food the food , its fantastic, the bed, the price, the covered parking for the motorbike.

Review 13:We arrived very late at the Hotel St Louis, and was beyond the desk check in time. But the staff emailed the access code to us, sent instructions where to find our rooms, keys etc and left lights on for us. Room although small was very comfy and well equiped. Piping hot water for a shower which after 14 hours driving was very welcome. Beds and pillows comfy and room overall very clean. We only stayed there for 6 hours for sleep en route to the euro tunnel but if you're looking for a hotel for this kind of purpose, the St Louis is great. Only about a half hour drive up to the tunnel too. Good value and would highly recommend and use again in similar circumstances

Review 14:although car parking advertised was charged at 9 euros and was locked when owner left the site at approx 9pm and not unlocked til his return at 7.30 am

Review 15:plush white towels in room

Review 16:The hotel front doors and parking door was locked at 9pm which meant leaving car in street and using a key pad to get in through back door of parking area and climb outside staircase to get into building

Review 17:Comfy clean room with very white bed linen and towels

Review 18:We were told very firmly indeed that we couldn't get the car out of the car park before 7.30 in the morning so we chose to park in the street - which was fine. But slightly annoying that we then saw the garage being opened up the following morning just before we were about to leave at 7.15. We decided to eat in town rather than the restaurant. When we got back there were still a couple of people in the bar who had eaten there. We asked if it was possible to get a drink and were told very firmly that there were now closed. All fair enough in a way, but the overall impression was that the hotel was run for the benefit of the proprieters more than the customers and we didn't feel particularly welcome or looked after.

Review 19:The hotel was fine for the price - the room was clean, the bed was reasonably comfortable and it was quite close to the centre

Review 20:We liked everything about the place.

Review 21:The proprietors are very welcoming and friendly. For a 2 star hotel the place is top class. We will be returning.

Review 22:Convenient location for us to stop off while travelling south. Really comfortable bed. Decent room for a family of four. Friendly staff and clean and tidy hotel. Very accommodating as we're late getting there.

Review 23:The food in the hotel restaurant was great and the hosts lovely. The room was clean, light, pleasant and airy. Basic but fine for a short stay. Comfy beds in family room.

Review 24:The owner of the hotel was extremely helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and quiet. I had no trouble finding the hotel which is a short walk from the city centre. Private parking is available in the hotel's courtyard which is locked at night

Review 25:Lovely warm reception from fabulous management. On site secure parking. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Charming bar and top quality food in the restaurant at very reasonable prices.

Review 26:We were delayed on the journey to the hotel and arrived at 10 pm to a distinctly cool reception from the staff. If you're going to be later than 8 pm, make sure you ring the hotel to warn them!

Review 27:This hotel is well situtated for anyone who needs somewhere to stay close to Calais or Boulogne. It is clean and pleasant in an old-fashioned way with plenty of secure parking.

Review 28:No English TV working even though UK only 40 Kms away! Shower water not hot enough. Dinner only average. 71 Euros per night. Had been in Indonesia for 3 weeks lately and all hotels were far superior and half the price.

Review 29:Not a lot!

Review 30:My Wife found the stairs to the first floor room hard work. We should have asked for a ground floor room.

Review 31:A warm welcome from the hotel owners. Secure parking, very comfortable room and good food. Excellent location within walking distance of the town centre. We will certainly come again!

Review 32:Convenience for town centre, good facilities, good restaurant. I've stayed at the St louis a few times. It caters nicely to Brits who may be new to France.

Review 33:Excessive use of air freshener in the bedroom which could be a nuisance especially to asthmatics.

Review 34:Efficient and pleasant staff and generally a comfortable feel.

Review 35:Was glad to have car securely parked but thought and additional parking fee was a bit excessive.

Review 36:Quiet location yet near centre and restaurants. good welcome and friendly staff. Very comfy room and bed, excellent bathroom.

Review 37:Surprising that the hotel is closed from 9.30 pm until 7.30 am andletting them know if you are likely to arrive after 9.30 pm is a must, otherwise you won't be able to get in! However, if you do let themknow of a late arrival then the information they send for gaining accessis quite good.

Review 38:We stayed at Hotel Saint Louis for one night as a stopover on our way toCalais from Switzerland. The hotel is well placed and easy to find fromthe a26 (8 km). We were in a triple room in the new annex and it wasreally good and spotlessly clean. I can't vouch for the food at thehotel as we didn't have dinner or breakfast. The hotel is in a quietlocation but a 10 minute walk following the Centre Ville signs takes youto the lively town square with lots of bars and restaurants. The earlymorning drive to Calais took about 45 mins but that was not using thea26 -a very easy drive. I would say that the Hotel Saint Louis is theperfect place to stay if travelling through Calais and needing anovernightstop. Our visit was less than 12 hours but fitted the billperfectly and would definitely recommended.

Review 39:No 24 hour facilities (need to have entry code after 2130hrs). Shower fell apart !!! Easy to put together mind ... At breakfast we drink tea - but the hot water jug wasn't hot !!! After a quick word it was swiftly replaced though.

Review 40:Great location - handy for town - which is a lovely place.

Review 41:Paying for parking, questioned why I wanted extra pillows, not being offered children's menus and ended up paying for 4 adult breakfasts and dinners.

Review 42:My starter

Review 43:Room had no windows to open- only the door and we could hardly leave that open all night. The room was very basic and I'm glad we were only there for one night.

Review 44:Staff were the only good thing. And it's proximity to Calais.

Review 45:double bed was a little small and uncomfortable when compared with hotels generally, so would recommend paying the small extra amount for twin beds.

Review 46:excellent location within walking distance of centre and cathedral. safe parking which is a real bonus. very quiet location, you could come and go as you please via back entrance. excellent value for money

Review 47:Great location. Basic hotel but clean and welcoming. Secure car parking a bonus although a tight squeeze. Excellent stay.

Review 48:Being told by reception that parking was free except for Booking.com customers.

Review 49:Parking on site.

Review 50:The staff and its convenience including parking

Review 51:No coffee or remaking facilities really uncomfortable head board and only 1 pillow

Review 52:Good location close to town centre

Review 53:Hotel closes at 9.30pm!

Review 54:Off-street parking (paid for, admittedly). Good restaurant. Nice room.

Review 55:Lots of rules and costs, parking for example.

Review 56:Secure car park but limited space.

Review 57:As always made so welcome and all needs catered for. We arrived after check in and were given clear instructions and a room ready.

Review 58:Internet was a bit tricky

Review 59:Lovely staff and great breakfast

Review 60:useful stop over on our way back through France

Review 61:Pleasant central location. Parking on site. Very helpful staff. Excellent restaurant.

Review 62:Wi-fi problems may have been my machine.

Review 63:Friendly, helpful staff. Good meal in restaurant. All sensibly priced.

Review 64:Wi-Fi didn't work

Review 65:It was convenient, clean and comfortable. Just what we required

Review 66:Good parking

Review 67:Lovely brakfast. Secure car park kept open for us until 9pm. Room clean and comfortable.

Review 68:Not terrific value when the add ons for breakfast and parking taken into account

Review 69:Open from 2pm, friendly owners and secure parking

Review 70:Location

Review 71:Needs updating old fashioned

Review 72:Room a little dated but clean

Review 73:Good breakfast Friendly staff

Review 74:Rooms lacking character, but clean and beds comfortable

Review 75:very good location great Town Breakfast good

Review 76:The Staff and owner was very friendly and organised

Review 77:Breakfast really expensive Generally over-priced for a 2* hotel

Review 78:Nice large family room Clean and comfortable WiFi Secure Parking

Review 79:Rude owners

Review 80:Good location

Review 81:location, rooms were very small, bed was uncomfortable, thin walls, banging doors

Review 82:wifi, big shower

Review 83:Bar prices.

Review 84:Could not fault the hotel in any way other than the bar prices.

Review 85:The plumbing in the bathroom was noisy and there was a smelly backdraft

Review 86:The couple that run the show are dedicated to their work.

Review 87:Charming atmosphere. Extremely helpful owners Good food in the hotel restaurant

Review 88:no wifi available in the room no facility to make drinks in the room the price of the room was too expensive

Review 89:location for access to the Euro tunnel

Review 90:Proprietors were most helpful and friendly. Restaurant good.

Review 91:Room was a little small

Review 92:Friendly staff, location, cleanlinessand comfort of room. Secure Parking.

Review 93:Internet was not working

Review 94:Good price and easy to find parking in the streets.

Review 95:No lift

Review 96:Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 97:Safe and secure parking, very helpful and friendly hosts with very good food served in the hotel restaurant. The town is within easy walking distance from the hotel.

Review 98:This hotel is not a place i would rush back to. The staff are not very friendly. The hotel was full during our stay and although a lot of us want to use the pub at around 22:30 we were ignored at the door and the pub closed. If this was to be the case why were we not advised on arrival. The gent at the counter when we arrived was possibly the most pleasant and he did give us a comprehensive guide on facilities etc but this wasnt communicated. This place didnt blow my hair back

Review 99:Main course Food was uninspired and of poor taste, chicken dry and tough, strong-coloured rice didn't compliment delicate fish.

Review 100:Convenient for ferry crossing to Dover.

Review 101:Staff very brusque. I was travelling with an elderly aunt who wasdisabled..facilities for her were poor...no lift..She had troublenegotiating stairs and dark corridors and she could not access thebathroom easily. I guess we could have planned our trip better but wehad to book at the last minute

Review 102:Very clean. Easy to walk to Cathedral and town centre. We did not eat inthe hotel but other people reported the food was excellent.

Review 103:Upon arrival and trying to be polite to converse on French, the response from the proprietor was rude! The room I could not believe as it was an annexe which was like a Motel room that would be the worst of your nightmares. The location was good and thank goodness we were just passing through anymore then 1 night would be a waste of money and a complete nightmare

Review 104:No tea making facilities, service slow I understand because owner not well at present but they do try

Review 105:Ideal location to visit ww2 sites in the middle of all. Helpful owners wife, our room overlooked garden and was good. Food very good menu interesting

Review 106:Hotel was closed at 2:30 pm with a sign on the door saying it was not open until 4pm. Could not check in although booking advised check in available from 2pm. No tea or coffee making facility. Breakfast was additional at 9 euro EACH.. Car Parking was also additional ay 9 euro per night. Not advised on booking. Car Park also had height restriction so had to remove cycles from car to enter and exit car-park. Free WiFi in rooms but unable to log on to it.

Review 107:Nice and quiet. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 108:Very unfriendly staff. Ridiculous placement of toilet roll holder behindthe toilet. Lack of available channels on tv in either English or French- we watched German tv!

Review 109:Bright room. Good location ie walking distance into town.

Review 110:Nothing

Review 111:Unfortunately due to family illness the hotel had been closed to other guests. However we were allowed to stay with limited services. However the restaurant is one of the reasons I like to stay at this hotel and it was closed for the same reason.

Review 112:Booked two rooms, when entering both smelt musty and damp. When windows opened in room 5 smell soon disappeared but in room 11 the smell lingered throughout the night. Thankfully beds were not damp, sheets crisp and clean, surprisingly blankets on the bed and not duvets. Both bedrooms and bathrooms in need of re-decoration. Breakfast room and restaurant not v.inviting so we had dinner outside. Charge of €9 to park at the rear of the hotel bit of a cheek!

Review 113:Owners both efficient and friendly. We had dinner outside, very good menu and food was good.

Review 114:. Not very jolly ! Madam and her husband could have been a bit more welcoming. . Few guests during our visit,, the hotel closed in the evening and there was a key code to get in. We had to use an outside fire escape to get into the building. Hotel was a bit spooky Thur ,Fri nights so few more people around, Sat night there were a few more people. .Avoid the 9 euro parking charge by leaving the car round the back, quiet residential area no problems with parking. .Perhaps I am a bit on the tight side but 9.50 euros for a simple breakfast always seems a bit steep. . We had stayed a couple of years before and quite liked the place but somehow it was disappointing this time.

Review 115:. Good location,10 mins walk from the middle of St Omer. . Room was a reasonable size, comfy bed and clean. .Good deal on the room , payment in advance.. .The outside area is pleasant with seats and a garden.

Review 116:can not complain on anything on our stay here

Review 117:Staff very welcoming and polite.good english.arrived early .parked car in secure parking at hotel.and came back to book in at 2pm.had lovely room clean and comfy.we were so pleased .we have booked again to stop here july.everything so close but not in the hussle bussle .thank you for lovely stay.

Review 118:Shabby looking. No tea and coffee facilities in room. Hotel was locked up at 9pm on a Saturday night so no bar facilities and we had to use the back entrance. Scruffy area of town.

Review 119:Good value. Quiet, clean rooms.

Review 120:The hotel is in need of a little tlc, some of the décor is beginning tolook shabby. Car park is quite small and possibly awkward for largecars. We were on a motorcycle so not a problem.

Review 121:Good location, ideal for those travelling into mainland Europe as it is45 minutes from Calais. An easy walk to St Omer centre with plenty ofbars/shops and restaurants. Traditional French décor/style and afriendly welcome. Lovely large walk-in shower.

Review 122:excellent evening meals in a group of eight people. helpfull staff, excellent location to town centre with secure parking, very relaxing and comfortable hotel.

Review 123:Hotel shuts at 9.30 p.m. so you cannot get a drink of any kind in the hotel as a resident. I have never experienced a situation like that before.

Review 124:Good location, only 10 minutes from centre of Saint omer

Review 125:Not the hotel's fault but the one way system plus a nearby blocked off road makes finding the car park a little difficult.

Review 126:It isn't a fancy hotel but perfectly adequate for a short break in St Omer. Centrally located with a good restaurant. Owner speaks excellent English. We enjoy staying there.
