Reviews for Inverness Youth Hostel
Review 1:Despite the general kitchen facilities being good, there was a big lack of teapots, sink plugs and mugs of a decent size.
Review 2:We liked the staff, bedroom, lounges and general kitchen facilities.
Review 3:the beds were rock hard. walls are paper thin could here everything going on in other rooms. I came with a friend would not stay with my children too much noise. I know they are shared bathrooms which doesn't bother me but they were filthy
Review 4:staff were very friendly
Review 5:Overall the rooms and facilities were not that clean. No power points in room for charging, etc
Review 6:Good self catering kitchen With all facilities and staff were also helpful
Review 7:Our room was right next to the bathroom, that was the only downside since we were able to hear every minute people coming in and out throwing the doors, careless about people in the room next door (despite the many signs the hostel has warning about being quite), but I guess this was just bad luck on our side to be assigned that room.
Review 8:Staff were great, the hostel looks clean and it's location is good, it's not in the city centre but it's very close. Good value for your money.
Review 9:Everything was ok but there was some bed bug in our room which is annoying. Clealiness looked ok from outside but in fact bed bug brought many problems to us. Hope that management would take some action against bed bug issues.
Review 10:Staff were friendly.
Review 11:Big kitchen, 1 pound tea service, a lot of space in the room, if you lost your adapter they give to you sombodie's else for free, very comfortable for bikers, huge shower space
Review 12:old mattrasses and the bed were not good. They were squeaking when you turn in the bed.
Review 13:Nice stuff and clean toilets, only 10 minutes from city, bus and railway station
Review 14:arrived tired found the location hard to find but once I knew it was a short walk.
Review 15:The entire facility was a pleasant and welcome surprise, will be using again.
Review 16:Little confusing ,unit was 1/2 mile away from main lodge. Needed cell phone to register and get passcode for door
Review 17:Friendly staff, clean, well equipped kitchen, close walk to town for restaurants ,groceries etc
Review 18:The top beds of the bunk beds were quite noisy, every time someone moves we woke up. Someone throw my medicine away from the fridge, so I wasted a whole day of my trip going to hospitals and gps to get a prescription for a new medicine, which was quite annoying. However, the staff was really helpful when they figured out about my problem.
Review 19:The rooms and bathrooms were really clean. The staff was really helpful when I had a problem with my medicine.
Review 20:A little bit far from station (about 12-15mins walk), and there is a part of uphill road. So if you have a big luggage it may be a problem.
Review 21:Well-facilities kitchen, clean bed, well wifi, good price.
Review 22:Nothing Big. But toiletries should have been provided. we had to pay for that. Apart from this everything was perfect.
Review 23:The lounge and guest area where We can sit and work on the computers or have a coffee and watch the TV was a really nice thing I liked the most. Plus the staff was quite helpful they answered all the questions with care
Review 24:I heard and smelt everything that occurred in the toilet next to me through the night. Everything. Room was clean but shared facilities were horrendous. I hope the night was an exception to the norm but every toilet was un approachable.
Review 25:Beds were not very clean. My pillow was full of blood stains, on the wall there was a very, very old chewing gum! My mattress was completely worn out.
Review 26:Friendly staff
Review 27:It's very far(maybe 15minutes) from train station if you bring heavy luggage. The WiFi only offer in lobby and sometimes unstable.
Review 28:Clean room, nice bed, friendly staff.
Review 29:1. Unreliable Wifi in public areas, no connection in rooms at all. 2. Unreliable cleaning service. We booked a private room but there is a slept bed, a rotting banana and someone's flip-flops in the room on our arrival. and the receptionist did not even suggest to arrange the deserved cleaning for this when I talked to him). 3. not an easiest walk from coach station and train station.
Review 30:spacious room. Enough shower and toilets. Very good kitchen facilities.
Review 31:It wasn't very well sign posted. Near airport bus stop. No iron. Bedrooms weren't particularly but in fairness, people I shared room with were messy!
Review 32:Tv and lounge was nice. Staff were friendliness.
Review 33:The wi-fi didn't work at all. On the computers provided at the reception area the internet access was limited (e.g: could not attach files to my emails, which made it impossible to send my boarding pass to the reception to be printed), the browser used (internet explorer!) did not support many of the contents I wanted to reach.
Review 34:It is really close to the city center and the train station (10 minutes), despite that it looks a bit suburban. The water pressure was amazing in the showers. If you are with a car, there is plenty of parking space.
Review 35:noisy - our room was next to the toilet and we heard everything; hard beds; quite expensive for a youth hostel
Review 36:friendly staff, easy and quick "check-in", big and well equipped kitchen for self-catering
Review 37:Showed weren't clean, paper in room said we had to pay for wifi, when we left here was a small sign on the billboard that said wifi was free, not impressed overall, stayed at a ton of hostels previously and this was my least favorite by far
Review 38:Bunk bed was broken has to sleep two in one bed
Review 39:The Wifi is available only for a fee, though I didn't use it.
Review 40:The en-suite room included a kettle with tea and coffee, the room was small but comfortable enough. The location is not in the centre, but only a short walk and a large supermarket is close. The kitchen was well equiped, also with two fridges.
Review 41:The wing I was in smelled like urine. Also the walls were extremely thin and I could hear not only people yelling/ banging about next door, but everyone above and below me. There seemed to no sense of common decency among other travelers either, as people ran up and down the halls all night (literally) being extremely loud.
Review 42:The shower room was all right. It was clean and easily accessible. The location of the hostel was also nice, as it was only a 10-15 minute walk to city center.
Review 43:There should have been more twin rooms for privacy. I couldn't book any because these were short in numbers and were already booked. Few of toilets were dirty and broken, so I had to wait to use the clean ones.
Review 44:It was easy to find, the bedding was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly, like I expected. Self catering facilities were also an added convenience.
Review 45:Just issue on door lock... Doesn't open easily need to try few times before it opens, might be annoying for other people who are staying in the same room because of the sound it will make in attempt to open the door... The staff tried to rectify by changing the keycard but still didn't sort the problem... They were very kind enough and offer me to transfer to another room but decided not to... Still doesn't affect the overall pleasant experience...
Review 46:My first ever hostel experience and definitely will do it again...Lovely and very accommodation staff... Definitely value for money... You get to meet other people... Thanks for the wonderful experience...
Review 47:Nothing free: no free Internet (madness nowadays, and wi-fi is not working at all), no free tea or coffee (reception may do it for free but may charge you). Expensive breakfasts and other dishes.
Review 48:Low price, kind personnel.
Review 49:Stayed here for 2 nights. There where bloodstains on my pillow. No wifi and extremely noisy. I'm usually sleep through everything but needed my earpluggs for this hostel. A lot of kids (about 10year olds) where there. 2 or 3 coaches and it sounded like there where going to come through the walls and ceiling. The hostel is as noisy as a caravan. Would recommend it. Plus the location isn't ideal.
Review 50:you can by snacks and drinks at the reception
Review 51:My son and daughter in law were in a family room with their two young children and during the night part of the bed (bunk beds) fell onto the bottom bunk narrowly injuring one of the children. The person at the youth hiostel said she would have to speak to her manager but we have had no communication
Review 52:I had viewed the hostel online and as we have 9 year old twins had booked a family room which had 2 bunk beds. The kids had both chosen to sleep on the top bunks but we were dismayed when we were shown a room with only one bunk bed. To make sure the disappointment was not worse, the twin who didn't get to sleep on the top bunk will have it next time we are up in Inverness but I was personally a bit disappointed as I had booked a few weeks in advance.
Review 53:The room was clean and tidy and beds were very comfortable. We had a room right across from the toilet which was almost like ensuite! Breakfast was great too and all 4 of us gave the hostel full marks.
Review 54:Kitchen was only open 6-10AM and 4-11PM so I wasn't able to get some bread for lunch... The reception was supposed to be open 24/7 but a lot of times when I walked past it looked close and no one was there.
Review 55:Two pillows!
Review 56:a little noisy at night, with other guests outside (was very warm so windows open), buildings not pretty
Review 57:clean and tidy, good facilities, staff very helpful, location great for us as necessary night stop whilst travelling
Review 58:The worst thing is that you have to make your own bed before you, sleep but lets face it that ain't no problem really.
Review 59:That i could book a room on the day of arrival with no problems, great for spontaneous people like me !
Review 60:The cleaning people took my shoes while I was away. I was able to get them back from their lost and found place, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Review 61:Quite luxurious for a hostel. Never before had I stayed in a hostel room with running water in it.
Review 62:No bad experience.
Review 63:Cleanliness of toilets etc and helpfull staff. Can't review self-catering,wifi and breakfast as didn't use them but didn't hear of any complants.
Review 64:You had to pay for wifi, 1 pound for 20 minutes, so for me, who was also working, that was no option. I had to go into town for it.
Review 65:Friendly personnel and very quiet, had the room for myself, but I was there half March... I think that would help in all hostels.
Review 66:Some items at the counter were heavily priced.
Review 67:Competent informality. Mixed nationalities, shared information, polite behaviour (both staff and guests).
Review 68:the place is a maze the amount of doors in there is ridiculous, it's a bit of a walk from everything
Review 69:reasonably comfy hostel. very clean. has everything kitchen, laundry, tv room you name it
Review 70:Very dark grounds need better lighting and signage. Was it something about me that desirable staff in formal restaurant kept putting me in less desirable tables!
Review 71:Concierge very accommodating
Review 72:Nothing.
Review 73:I was made to feel most welcome upon arrival by the friendly staff, who I felt went out of their way to accomadate me in all ways possible.I found the other guests there to be interesting and eclectic, from all walks of life and parts of the world. In honesty,I only came here because I had to,but this experience has opened my eyes to the potential of these establishments.i say "Well Done" and thank you.
Review 74:No wi-fi and our room was not cleaned every day.
Review 75:The place is very well organized and has very good facilities to offer. Big kitchen with spacy dining room, laundry room, and rest areas. The staff is friendly and helpful
Review 76:The overall opinion from myself and my grandchildren was very favourable, the fact that there are board games available was really thoughtful. We use the hostel frequently and it is good value for money.
Review 77:I enjoyed my 2 night stay in the Inverness youth hostel, i have no complaints, things there suited me very well. I shall use this hostel again if possible the next time i need a good cheap place to stay. Many thanks to the staff who assisted me ...
Review 78:Only had two sockets in a 6-bed room which were close to the door and in no way convenient. Didn't seem to have a lot of bathroom facilities in a wing, but it wasn't peak season when I visited so I had no trouble with that. Close to zero network connection in this place, both in my room and in common areas. The wifi was 1 GBP for 20 minutes, not a fast connection, and cannot be shared between devices. If it gets disrupted midway you have to pay again for another session, which was annoying given how expensive it is.
Review 79:Big kitchen fitted with everything you would ever need. Sink with mirror in room. Very helpful staff, even printed out bus timetables for me.
Review 80:We were there over the weekend and there was a lot of noise over night from other guests (other rooms) who were coming in in the middle of the night. The walls are very thin. Internet access is a bit expensive.
Review 81:The kitchen facilities are amazing. It's a well organized hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Review 82:I must have gone at an unlucky time...coach loads of adolescents were staying there! I leave you to guess... Into my room came 3 Chinese girls who thought that washing their clothes in the shower at 1am was acceptable behaviour and flashing their phones in my eyes while using them as torches by 2.30am was also ok. By 3am I decided to tell them what would happen if they didn't stop....well they didn't! On and on all night they went, till I got up, washed, dressed and sat out the rest of my night down in the lobby. It was 5am, there wasn't anyone at the desk so I dozed till 6.10 unlocked the front door and trundled off for my early bus. Never again thank goodness!
Review 83:Lovely building and kindly staff, very clean and handy for the town centre.
Review 84:the matras was very bad indeed: I had to sleep under my sleeping bag because I was forced to use the duvet against the cutting in my flesh of the spiral springs of the matras.
Review 85:good location
Review 86:Unfortunately my room mates were quite noisy when they came in, one shone her torch in my face at 11pm, which woke me up, and one (possibly the same one) unplugged my Garmin, which I was charging for the race, without asking, while I was asleep, so that she could charge her phone. I thought that this was quite rude and selfish, but is not a reflection on the property as they cannot control their guests' behaviour. Since I was leaving the room at 5:45am, and managed to accidentally lock myself out while moving my bag into the corridor (oops!), I can't imagine I was their favourite room-share either!
Review 87:The staff had kindly put me in a room they expected to be quieter as I had informed them I was running the following day and needed a good nights sleep. The room itself was typical of a hostel room, but with two single and one set of bunk beds, and with only three occupants this meant a bed each. The bed was comfortable, and the room and other facilities were warm and clean, and the hostel has an excellent range of facilities and it is only a short walk into the city centre, to the railway station and to Bught Park (where the Marathon Festival was held). I would use this hostel again if I was visiting Inverness.
Review 88:The pillow was awful, had to buy a new one. Walls very thin so place was noisy especially from adjoining bathroom and bunk rooms.
Review 89:Friendly, warm and clean hostel, good facilities and good location.
Review 90:The fact that they did charge for almost everything, including the use of wi-fi, was a bit annoying. Be careful with the special conditions, because I booked considering the price as published in the site, but then they charged £4 extra for each person to my debit card (that was £12) for not being a member of some hostel thing.
Review 91:The hostel is clean, the room was nice and everything was ok in general.
Review 92:There was at least 1 big group staying there and they completely took over all of the facilities. Thats what you get when you have a huge hostel. But you couldn't get into breakfast while they were there, you couldn't use the kitchen while they were there, and they were super noisy at night. Location, was a 15 minute walk from the city center, so not bad, but not great.
Review 93:Big lockers that your entire suitcase fits into.
Review 94:Many people arrived at the same time, and the receptionist just seemed totally lost and there was a long wait. So when we finally managed to get booked and go to the kitchen for dinner, we had another surprise waiting for us... A sports team was staying at this hostel at the same time, consisting of ~30 people. Once we went to the kitchen to cook dinner, we were immediately told (by their coach?/cook?) that in 10 minutes some 30 odd people would arrive all at once and that we should please hurry up so that we could leave as they'd need the space...Obviously this wasnt the hostels fault, but they could have handled it differently and asked the team to dine at two different times so as to not block the entire kitchen for the rest of the hostel.
Review 95:The hostel is big, clean and comfy and the location is ok.
Review 96:The hotel hasn’t access to internet, also a WiFi code is to expensive for a customer
Review 97:I like the environment here, comfortable, cosy, and peaceful. I got a good sleep at that time. Thanks
Review 98:Sharing a room with two octogenarian emphysemics does not lend itself to quality *cough* sleep *coughhack* nor does it feel much like a Youth hostel...
Review 99:There is a 24 hour reception. Aside from this there is not much to like. It isn't nearly as cheap as you would think, considering they nickel and dime you for things like WiFi and shower towels. The location is out in the boonies. Not beautiful, pictureque boonies, but massive outside-city-centre parking lot boonies.
Review 100:Too expensive. 3 flights of stairs but no lift. Wifi had to be paid for as an extra. Charged extra for temporary hostel membership over the price quoted. Scotland has a reputation of being stingy and this hostel just reinforces it!
Review 101:Not much.
Review 102:No private Bathroom No free wi-fi No shops and bars nearby Take me more money from my credit card without my authorization Public toilet and kitchen
Review 103:Having to pay for wi-fi. £3 an hour was excessive. Most places now have free wi-fi on offer. This hostel should follow suit..
Review 104:The hostel was well within walking distance of the city centre so close at hand for everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The showers were amazing. The hostel was kept very very clean, not easy when everyone is tramping through puddles all day!! Would recommend without hesitation.
Review 105:It has no place to assemble and meet new people. It is a big impersonal building, like a big office park. More made for big groups fx school classes, not for a single traveller who wants to get in contact with others
Review 106:it is clean, tidy and structured
Review 107:No bedside lights. No mirror in the room.
Review 108:Left luggage facilities; I stayed at the Youth Hostel before and after an outdoor trip and was able to leave some luggage at the hostel while I was away. Cooked breakfast!!
Review 109:Windows didn't open all the way and it was very hot in the room as a result not the end of the world as it's not hot in Scotland often Bit out of the centre
Review 110:Clean place Quiet and spacious Free parking
Review 111:The bedrooms I used were lacking in a couple of basic things. There was no mirror or bedside lights in bedroom
Review 112:The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them. They went way beyond the usual level of customer service I have had in Youth Hostels before. The cooked breakfast was also above the standard of breakfast I have had in other hostels.
Review 113:men snoring in shared room. creaking bunk beds
Review 114:everything, self catering kitchen, 2 lounges, rooms , information desk, helpful staff, fresh linen, well ventilated room, not far to walk for toilet and showers
Review 115:very close to inverness train station and bus station (12min walk), big morrison and marks spencer nearby (10min walk) very very spacious, clean, and sunny self-catering kitchen in a quiet area free luggage room
Review 116:Extortionate WiFi. There is little or no mobile signal so you need to rely on WiFi - make it free and more widespread. Travellers need internet access....
Review 117:Location, price, facilities
Review 118:A very warm & friendly welcome from the receptionist. My queries , were dealt with promptly & efficiently. Great value for money . Clean room & shower facilities. An easy walk down to the centre of town. Not so easy climb up to the hostel , but a good, short workout.
Review 119:Wifi didn't work the whole time I was there; as I had to work online while away it made it very difficult. Also, you have to pay for hourly access to wifi when it does work - quite common but worth knowing beforehand
Review 120:Clean, great kitchen facilities, good rooms
Review 121:The gas stove wouldn't work.
Review 122:Comfortable lounge and TV area. Spacious rooms with locker style cupboards to store your luggage in the room. Friendly staff.
Review 123:Expensive for what you get (unless member of hostel association) and the showers could be a little dodgy.
Review 124:Comfortable, excellent facilities, nice staff, good hostel. The secure key card entry was new for me in a hostel which was an excellent bonus.
Review 125:all perfect
Review 126:nothing at that price
Review 127:very clean, very kind staffs very low price, very reliable, very comfortable
Review 128:Beds are not fully comfortable.
Review 129:Arrangement of 5 beds in 1 single room
Review 130:Wifi was available just in the lounge
Review 131:No wifi aside from ground level common areas
Review 132:Walking distance to city centre, only 15min walk.
Review 133:Clean. Good value.
Review 134:Very friendly atmosphere and staff
Review 135:Locality. Close to train station. Local supermarkets. Off main road.
Review 136:It's not have Wifi for other floors.
Review 137:Easy to go to the city centre. Cleanness. Internet is good. (only the lobby)
